A few months ago we decided to give PAGG a try on a whim and we've been regulars ever since. The service is always attentive, even when they're hustling with a weekend brunch crowd. We went recently with a large group (6 + a toddler) and they not only could accommodate us but made everyone feel like family. The food has become a highlight and we recently tried the lunch menu for the first time and weren't disappointed. The chicken salad sandwich - add some bacon - was just what we needed on a hot summer day and for $15 including a cookie, what's not to love. Highly recommend the honey lemon pepper chicken biscuit, GoGo Berry biscuit (think Boberry - but better), and shrimp and grits - the tamales, southern breakfast, and breakfast burritos are also hits and won't leave you wanting for more. Found out about this place on Instagram and their food and pastries looked wonderful, so decided to check it out for Saturday breakfast. It's a quaint breakfast/lunch spot at a shopping center in Decatur so parking should not be an issue. You're greeted by a pastry case that looked wonderful. We were dining in though so we sat ourselves. In the beginning, our server was not the friendliest. He dropped off the menus without even greeting us. When he came back he was a bit more chipper. I ordered the traditional southern breakfast with over hard eggs, home fries, biscuit and turkey sausage. My husband got the veggie omelette with home fries, and we shared a cinnamon roll. We both enjoyed our food, but it was nothing to write home about - just typical, home cooked breakfast. The cinnamon roll was more of a biscuit texture and the icing was super, super sweet. Pastries A Go Go told me to pull up for the Honey Lemon Pepper Chicken Biscuit so I did just that. I customized it by getting it on a Jalapeño Cheddar Biscuit. There's an insane amount of lemon flavor and it has a nice floral component (I think they used meyer lemons?). The honey was not too sweet and I would absolutely come back for the jalapeño cheddar biscuit alone. I also got a caramel iced latte. They have a very large shade tree covered patio that I will be back to try. The pastries looked good, but I was so full. The sandwich even had a hash brown on it! The cheese grits were amazing. It had plenty bacon on it which surprised me in comparison to other shops that give you like one strip and one tiny egg. Very filling to be one item. On the news I heard this place was a staple of Decatur and was closing soon. I wanted to check it out before this happened. This place is very casual - order at the counter or table service. I did table service and ordered oatmeal, coffee, and bacon. All was pretty standard and the waiter for fairly attentive. THIS ISSUE: I received my check, the total was 11 and change, I gave by card to pay and when the receipt was brought back, I WAS CHARGED A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT AMOUNT. The waiter didn't say anything about up-charging my card. When I looked at the receipt the prices were changed and the coffee was added. It seems he made a mistake and tried to correct it silently. I made a yelp account just to make this review. My biggest issue is honestly the owner. I started coming here a couple months ago from time to time. The food at least I have has been delicious. Sure, a bit pricey, but nonetheless delicious. The servers and workers are always very kind and helpful and tending to peoples' needs, it's the owner that has turned me away from coming back. Multiple times I have overheard her talk in such verbally abusive ways to some of her servers or workers, and right in earshot of the customers? It's very unprofessional. I am all here for constructive criticism, but she does not do that. The most recent time I was dining in, the server made such a small mistake at a table, and the owner came to the table, apologized to the table saying "sorry about her" in such a demeaning way to the server, then went to that server and gave her table away to another server, then continued to tell this server that her table was unhappy with her. Fun fact: they were not. I also have sat next to other customers who have also commented on the same things I've seen. She also talks about personal matters very publicly and some stuff she has said, especially with mental health, was deeply disturbing. Again, this has happened multiple times and it's clear some of it is personal. She is lucky most of the customers that come are not on the tech savvy side or else I think she would have more bad reviews due to her attitude. It was hard to believe that with so many menu items, they could all be good! In our party of three, everyone enjoyed their menu items. What a wonderful breakfast place! I've passed by this place many times but never actually visited but happened to be staying at a nearby hotel and decided to walk over and try it out. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and had a minute to take in the restaurant. It was super busy for it to be like maybe 8 am??? I liked the homey feel of it and the lady at the register was so kind. Took me maybe two minutes from the time I walked in to place my order and then maybe another 8 to actually get my order so I would say it was pretty quick service. I took the stroll back to my room and was excited to try what I got. I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese on crossaint, a side of cheese grits, and a cinnamon roll (they looked sooo delicious in the glass case so I couldn't leave without taking one). The sandwich was delicious - the crossaint was flaky and warm and toasty and buttery, the egg was scrambled just the way I like, there was cheese that just melted on the sandwich and blended in well with the biggest piece of bacon. It was really a filling sandwich. The grits were less than stellar though. Yes there was cheese in it but there wasn't any kind of flavor or seasoning at all. I hadn't had such bland grits in a long time but I also understand sometimes maybe places just let people "doctor" their grits the way they want. Added a little butter, salt, and pepper and they were doable. I didn't try the cinnamon roll until the next day but it was pretty good (especially because I warmed it up) and wasn't super sweet. I've been to this breakfast spot several times but I feel like the quality and service has gone downhill over the years. On this particular occasion, I walked in to witness an argument between the manager and a patron. I'm not exactly sure what was going on but I think there was some sort of miscommunication between the customer and one of the cashiers. The cashier seem to be a little confused about what the customer was requesting and the manager stepped in. Instead of calming things down, the manager escalated the tension to the point where she and the customer were yelling at each other loudly and long enough that it attracted the attention of everyone in the diner Then, instead of showing good leadership and handling the matter professionally, the manager could be seen and heard criticizing and complaining about the customer to the other employees. She then proceeded to re-engage with the customer in an aggressive manner thus escalating the situation once again. In the meantime the rest of the staff was so focused on what was going on that they ignored their tables and the customers waiting to purchase items at the counter and just stood around talking amongst themselves. There was only one server that I could see who was actually working. The customer finally left; and instead of pulling the cashier aside to discuss the matter and how to handle it similar situations in the future, the manager proceeded to belittle and criticize the server. She even went so far as to insinuate that the fact that English was not the server's first language was the reason that he messed up the order. Upon seeing all of this, it makes a lot of sense as to why customer service has gotten so bad at this restaurant. I can't even tell you what I thought of the food because all I can remember is how poorly the manager behaved and how her lack of professionalism is reflected in the poor service that was given by the other staff members. Our server said that he also tried the milk to see what we had been through and confirmed that he too found it to be completely spoiled. It unfortunately literally left such a bad taste in my mouth that I could not eat the rest of my breakfast. I don't think I was missing much according to the rest of my family. Ah, Pastries a Go Go! When I think of tasty, low key brunch spots (because to be perfectly honest nothing on earth makes me nearly as angry as waiting for food while hungover, tired, and hot), THIS is where I dream of. I've been eating here for over a decade. My mother used to bring us here on weekends for their biscuits and gravy, and I cannot even begin to describe the disappointment I'd feel when we got there too late and they'd be sold out. Don't get me wrong - the rest of the menu is lovely as can be, and I've had plenty of enjoyable meals sans-B&G - but hot damn that dish just gets me going!! It reminds me of how my late grandmother made them both from scratch for us when we were small. OK so with that lead up, you'll assume I insist you order the B&G - and you're completely right, unless I'm next in line behind you. Then back off!! Real talk, these biscuits are monsters so a half order will usually do the trick. The pancakes and the omelets are also both perfect every time, and highly customizable. The restaurant was pretty packed when we got here mid-morning, but we were seated without a wait indoors (thank god we didn't have to sit on the patio in Atlanta summer heat). I ordered the eggs Benedict because I have no idea how to poach my own eggs or whisk up my own hollandaise. While it wasn't an Insta-worthy presentation, it was hearty. There was quite a bit of hollandaise drenching the perfectly poached eggs, but there was so much sauce I ended up scraping some of it off. The breakfast my dining buddy got was basic and nothing special, but also pretty affordable. Overall, the breakfast isn't anything to rave over. Why, you ask again? because these potatoes are breakfast, brunch, lunch, and even sometimes dinner. They have a 1/2 portion and full portion. Both are too big for 1 sitting, but I like to have 3 days worth, so I go full portion size. These breakfast potatoes are chunky. None of those pre-cut perfectly cubed previous frozen types. These are REAL potatoes cut in chunks. They are roasted up with some crisp still to them and then the toppings are added. AHHH! A breakfast Sundae! Sauteed tomatoes, Julianned zucchini, bell peppers, onions are like the sprinkles. They the cheese...oh yes! The smothering of cheese. It is like the hot fudge and caramel on my breakfast sundae! I've never felt so unwelcome at a restaurant. Given they don't close until 2 I can only assume their laziness was the reason for cutting service so soon. I'll never set foot in this crummy establishment again as I've never been treated so rudely at a restaurant. Horrible, horrible, horrible. One of our fave local spots. I almost hesitated to review for fear of it getting too busy. They have had rushes when we have dined there. More often than not, they aren't overly full where you have to wait to get seating. Oh, and they have the most charming outdoor seating. It is a community gem and a must try for biscuit lovers. I know some places claim to have been voted as having the best biscuit in Atlanta, but clearly Pastries did not enter that year. This is for real biscuit eaters, not the ones who are watching their weight and want a small taste of a biscuit. But if you are watching your weight, this is a cheat day item. This thing is the size and girth of a lumber jacks hand and not the new lumberjacks with modern technology. I am talking old school lumberjacks who chopped trees with just an axe. They are home made and you can taste the baking soda and maybe even some crisco. One of my favorites is the traditional breakfast, two eggs, grits or potatoes, bacon or sausage, and toast or a biscuit; I ALWAYS get a biscuit. The biscuit and gravy (served only on the weekends) is another favorite. A regular order comes with two biscuits, even I draw the line somewhere. I get a half and order (1 biscuit) and an order of house made sausage (2 patties) and gravy on the side. The gravy has sausage in it and is tasty; I get this when I plan to go straight home and lay down. I split the biscuit, put one patty on each biscuits, then pour the gravy on top. I sit back survey the greatness, take a swig of water, take a breath and dig in. Another favorite are their breakfast sandwiches, it may sound trivial and maybe it should be, because how do you mess up a sandwich; but some people do. I get the bacon, egg (over hard) and cheese (Swiss) on a butter croissant. I can make it last 45 minutes with no distractions. Just me my coffee and my BEC. But you gotta get there, because they go fast. * Note: If I am in the restaurant and I see they are low on croissants, I sneak to the counter and ask them to hold one aside for me. It is everyone for themselves. I will say there pancakes are a little large for me, it takes up a plate, but that is just me. I have started walking to Pastries, I feel like it balances the scales of what I am about to indulge in. Also. all of their pastries are made by the owner and it is not just biscuits, they have mini cakes, cookies, bagels, croissants, muffins. We had an enjoyable lunch at Pastries A Go Go today. I was looking forward to trying their Ruben, however, they only serve breakfast on Sundays. I opted for the Southwestern Omelette instead which was very good. Served with an incredible biscuit which literally melted in my mouth. Next time I'm going to request bacon in the omelette instead of ham - I understand this swap can be "life changing". They have a very nice patio which would make for a great leisurely brunch or lunch. And do plan on a leisurely meal as the pace here is rather deliberate.
