Lived near this Patel Brothers for 14+ years and have been very affected by this store's lack of consideration and care for the neighborhood within which it resides. I have had customers of this store leave dirty diapers in front of my front lawn while living near here and have also had the man who pushes the cart make it difficult to even get into the pathway of my home. As a store, there are traditional products from South East Asia, but oftentimes the produce is not fresh and is overpriced. The snacks and sweets by the cash registers are also not kept well, I have definitely seen actual bugs inside of the plastic cases that hold different vegetarian snacks. Additionally, the ladies who are usually working here do not speak English and it makes it difficult and much more time-consuming to buy groceries from here. read more

I salivate before even walking through the door and if I'm hungry it's dangerous. Fully stocked for the Hindi gourmand or frozen or pre prepared for those who are clueless about getting their ghee on. They have a great bazar section and little chatchkes for every occasion. I love the people who work here they make you feel like a stranger in a foreign land, turban, bindi, sari bejeweled beautiful people. The fruit is exotic and epic size fruits and veggies. I live in a neighborhood comprised mostly of Indian descents. This grocery store is a popular stop for them especially on weekend. An Indian friend suggested of how good their Basmati rice is. The place have the whole isle of different kind of rice, half of the stocks are basmatis. When I asked a local shopper which is the best brand the store carries , she just smile and said, " all has same quality". So I asked her , "what do you get personally?". She said, " I get different kind each time". That doesn't help me at all. This store carries all the possible needs of each Indian consumer.,,,their breads, their spices etc. The store carries American basic needs too but has a very competitive pricing. Just go to your regular grocery store for that. They carry Asian vegetables and fruits and I felt home for that. The pricing though is way expensive comparing to a Chinese supermarket. The cashier was not friendly enough to motivate me to comeback. The parking is a nightmare. The place is big but need proper maintenance. Has second thoughts of coming back . read more

Large clean store with excellent selection of South Asian produce and grocery. Even a couple organic options. If you're looking for some non-traditional flavored chips, be sure to give some of them a try. Parking isn't great here (street only), but I find the inside less crowded than the other Indian store a few blocks down. read more

I am glad that there is a Patel Brother's not too far away from me. My parents shop here regularly. It is like a giant supermarket for desis; they have nearly everything a South Asian person could need in order to feed his/her family. In addition to grocery items, they also sell incense, books, and various religious trinkets. The parking sucks though. read more

This Indian chain store is bigger with more selections than other stores in the area. Not a fancy place by any means but you will find food items such as Indian breads (Naan, rotli, etc), frozen desserts, variety of prepared masala entrees, fruits/snacks, basmati rice and spices. The prices of the food items are relatively competitive but some items appear to be more expensive (than an Indian take out order). I guess you have to know what you're buying. As for the parking situation, the store is in a residential neighborhood and there is ample parking. Walking a block or two is not a big deal (for me anyway). read more

Guys I have to agree with the other Yelpers on the parking situation. It's horrible you have to spin around for street parking. Since the store is located in front of the bus stop. However you can find all or most of Indian and Other Asian foods here. You can purchase your common fruits like apples, grapes and oranges here but they do not look fresh. The pomegranates here much more expensive than other fruit places. Only fruit I purchase from here is the delicious and fresh green Asian pear. I am unable to find it anywhere else. The store is clean and neat for the most part. I am not too sure about the roach scenario described another Yelper. Hell I wasn't there to see it or not to see it. However most of us shop here for our "brown" food so there are no complains from me. I always find what I need in the store. read more

They have a lot of Indian Stuff, its a Okay grocery, more expensive then many around, and they are not friendly. I went there using a pair of medium size shots, and a short sleeve shirt, the guys were staring me as if i have had committed some sort of felony, or similar. I'm amazed at the garbagey reviews here, all bordering on racism. One woman complains about not getting help from another shopper while buying basmati rice! Would she expect the same in a regular supermarket??? . Someone else complains about the clerks not being friendly and being ogled at because she wore shorts! This is New York - what do you expect?!? Another one has seen roaches scurrying out at night under the gate at closing time. I guess the roaches were waiting for closing time so they could party! Patel Brothers is a great clean supermarket with everything you could want for Indian groceries. If you don't see it here, you probably won't find it anywhere. I love Patel Brothers. I usually go to the one in Jackson Heights. I was thrilled when I found one in New Hyde Park. Wonderful vegetable selection. They sell fresh turmeric which is an amazing super food! Frozen Indian bread and samosas. I am a foodie and I love trying different ethnic foods. I love shopping in international supermarkets.
