Ran in today for a couple of items. It's a "senior discount" day, a whole 5% off your purchase. Hey, I'll take it. My stuff came to a bit over $16 and I asked for the discount and the kid says, oh, you have to spend $20! WTL...??? No other store has this little asterisk, (not to mention this place also has the highest prices in the area) not even the Key Food on Central Avenue. I do realize they are different owners, but the umbrella name is Key Food, so maybe a little bit of continuity would be nice? I told the manager, whose bigger manager was there and he said, yeah, they had a meeting and this was what they decided. Ok then, now I've made a decision and it's to never shop this store again. My mother may love the cole slaw, but she'll learn to live without it. 5% isn't going to break me, but you know what? Every penny counts, especially for seniors. read more

so we've been coming here for a few years. it's just okay for the basics. there aren't many specialty items, but that makes sense since it's not really positioned that way. that said, i do have a few concerns. the produce section can be hit or miss. sometimes the tomatoes and other items seem clearly past their prime. there also tends to be limited stock on certain products. some of the cashiers are genuinely warm and helpful, but others come across as disengaged or unhappy, which really affects the overall experience. read more

I like shopping there but the loyalty program is one of the worst of any store. Not user friendly. You should not have to go online before shopping and "clip" digital coupons. Your card at store should be enough. read more

I am a long time customer and have always liked the store, but in the last year I have bought several items because signs said they were on sale but the price charged at the register were not the sale price. They change locations of items which makes it difficult to shop. Even though I check the expiration dates on all items (in this store a must) I threw out 3 milks in a row. Purchased an entenmanns plain cake today expiration date 8/26 it was hard as a rock. Deli department need personnel that appear to hate the job and it shows. This store could be very good if only the staff was trained properly by management. The dairy if frequently outdated, I bring it up to the store manager and explain and the next day it's back in the dairy case. Don't buy dairy there anymore. I only use self checkout because the cashiers are RUDE. Some are kids and probably never learned, look people in the eye, smile, be pleasant. These kids are very off putting. The adults at the register, as well as the kids, want to either talk with each other or look at their phones! I am tired of the stupid guys who work at the Deli Counter. I won't be back. The older guy likes to correct my pronounciation of things. Really? You work at a DELI COUNTER and you want to correct the way I say something? Then he wants to know why I want so much of something. That's a lot - he says - why are you getting so much? Its none of your business fella - just slice. The younger kid thought it was funny that his brother's dog ate his chocolate weed brownies and my reaction was - take the dog to the vet and your brother is a moron - and so are you. Wow! That was the worst services I've ever received. I'm an ICU nurse from Utah working on the frontlines. On my way home after work multiple night shifts in a row, I stopped to grab a few essentials, the check out lady, Lucille, was extremely rude. I've never had such bad service in. Most people in NY have been exceptional grateful and treated myself and fellow traveling nurse well. However, Lucille seemed to take it personal that I shopped here this morning, making snide remarks about me while I could obviously hear her. The staff is fabulous ; local, extremely helpful and professional. The products are the concern. Weekly circular "specials" are limited or unavailable after the first promotional day. Much of the produce fails to have country of origin and implies organic ( garlic is a perfect example). I typically go weekly as of late leave without half the items desired. I am so disappointed having been a customer for over 30 years. Senior management has no credibility and needs to be removed. read more

If you are in a rush, never, I repeat never, go to this Key Food location. The average customer moves at a very slow pace and the cashiers move with a lack of urgency to match. I have easily killed 10 minutes in here trying to buy some soda. My Mom once went here and said that she waited behind a couple grabbing the circular, a cart, etc. for literally 3 minutes. There is one narrow entry way, so everyone is shuffled like cattle through one entrance causing people jams. When she said excuse me, the man turned around and yelled at her, "Give us a second, we're old people!" Yikes, respect your elders - but not recommended for your shopping needs. read more

While I agree with some of the other reviewers that the average patron of this supermarket is above and beyond senior citizen, the cashiers work quite effectively and quickly. I like this store because it is quite large and has a great selection of both domestic and international goods. There is even a small section at the front of the store that cater specifically to the Irish community. They have a great deli counter and their frozen food section is quite abundant. The store is well lit and clean and has wide aisles The fresh fruit and vegetable section is quite vast and they carry almost all kinds of produce. The prices are very reasonable also. read more

Do NOT go to the deli at the key food on Covert Avenue in Floral Park. They are completely unsanitary. The deli workers have facial hair and do not wear masks or hairnets. I complained to the manager who told me that masks are not required. We are in the middle of a pandemic! Even if we were not, all deli people handling food should be required to wear a mask and hairnet! Above all, a deli counter person should not have facial hair! The staff is definitely a majority of young adults/teens, not that I mind. But the self check out especially, you're either getting grilled by the attendant while checking out or they are nowhere to be found. We shop often because overall it is reasonable and well stocked. During the day on the weekends is a mad house though. Choose your time slot wisely as the parking lot is more like a puzzle when it's packed. read more

This is one of the finer supermarkets I have been to in the area. They usually have great prices and I love their produce. It's always fresh and have the best tomatoes. Frank and Brian are always so helpful when ever I go and there to shop. I love their gluten free section as well, Eric always gets me what I need and always provides me with great service and new selections whenever I ask. James is also very helpful whenever I go there, always having that great smile and outstanding customer service. Other than that it has amazing people and it's very clean. They treat me and my husband like family. I couldn't ask for a better place to shop. I'm only giving this place 5 stars because the ten star option was not available. I have reviewed what others wrote about this place and all I have to say is: OMG!!! People, really?!?!?!! LOL Its not that serious!!! LOL One person was complaining that it took them 10 minutes to buy soda one day because the staff is so slow and no sense of urgency, etc.. LOL Holy crap dude, reality is that there is no sense of urgency when buying soda anywhere. Save that complaint for first responders to an emergency, etc. This is the new Millennial generation of self-entitled, and need for immediate gratification persons. Nowhere else other than NY would that fly! Ok, well the bottom line people is that this store is clean, they have plenty of registers of which most are usually staffed and operational as well as several self-checkouts which work fantastic! The shelves are stocked, they have everything you would need from a supermarket and lots of extra items that would be considered "specialty". The deli people are really nice and efficient. The line moves as quick as it can so don't be discouraged if it appears to be long. They will get to you quicker than you think. The prices are comparable to other stores and there is plenty of parking in a private lot or in the street in front. As for all the people complaining about expired milk on the shelves - I have never experienced that in my 10 years shopping here. However, I offer this advise - Check the date on the carton before you buy the milk!! If its expired, grab another one! If there are no others, don't buy the milk. Easy :-) In regards to the comments about rude staff, etc, I can only say that in my 10 years shopping here and probably all the other markets I've used in my lifetime, I have never needed to deal with the staff. Just go in the store, grab a cart, take what you need off the shelf, check-out at the register and be gone. LOL Its not hard.. Supermarket shopping is self-serve! This is the second key food I've been to where I felt the cashier was being racist. For the context of this review, I'm a person of color and the cashier is Indian. I called out to her to ask about the reusable bags several times and she completely ignored me and proceeded to ask the Caucasian woman ahead of me about the weather. Do better Key Food. I never really had an issue with this particular Key Food until 2 hours ago! I've been coming here since I was a child and it pretty much looks the same, it's not one of those newly renovated supermarkets but whatever, it's local and close to where I live to grab something quick. I only had (2) items and there was only one register open with a line down to the deli section. I usually hate supermarket self-checkout kiosks because 90% of the time, the machine is too sensitive and if you happen to sneeze a little too hard or even breathe, the mechanism goes outta whack, and triggers that annoying "unexpected item" or some sort of freeze up that requires an attendant to fix. So unfortunately today, I experienced a freeze up, and I swear I did not even look let alone touch anything in the bagging area. After waiting about 5 minutes, this short woman with short brown hair finally came, and she was ready for war. She was huffing and puffing, and punching in her code like a maniac. If she wasn't 90 years old, I would blame her nasty attitude on PMS or even menopause. She started making a bunch of sarcastic comments under her breath and when I asked her if she wanted to turn around and say it to me directly, she called for the manager Margarita. Margarita came with a swipe card and unfroze the machine. The cashier then started tapping on the screen of the check-out in front of mine while still grumbling underneath her breath. I had to tell her, "listen this is why you get paid THE BIG BUCKS! I'm a customer, I don't work here. If Key Food wants to install kiosks to save labor, they must also understand that at times, customers will need help. It's not my fault the machine froze up, and even if it was, that's YOUR JOB to take care of it." I don't care if a cashier doesn't smile at me or even greets me, but to be blatantly rude is uncalled for. In the future, I rather drive in the opposite direction to the King Kullen if I need something quick from a raggedy supermarket. read more

I must have passed this small, outwardly nondescript Key Food a million times and never had the need to go inside. It is indeed small, with a limited selection of items, and not designed for a lot of customers at once. We'll all be senior citizens at some point, so just stop and take a breath while they slowly and obliviously hold everyone up. It's more expensive than nearby supermarkets, but that's probably the neighborhood. However, it gets a 2-star bump from me for the extensive section of British import items stocked near the entrance, including Mr. Kipling's cakes, British jams and sauces, crisps, biscuits and chocolates. There must be a UK expat community in Stewart Manor? I'll be back soon to splurge on imported snacks. It's cheaper than the inflated prices at UK supermarkets in NYC. read more

I am completely satisfied with this supermarket. The produce is fresh and the merchandise is always clearly marked. They have fair pricing and very good sales. The management goes above and beyond to accommodate customers. If you don't see something that you need on the shelves, the staff will check in the back to see if they have the item in stock. If not, they special order it for you. The cashiers are friendly and they are always willing to apply the store rewards card, even if you forgot yours at home. While it might not be the most high-tech market out there, they offer old-fashioned customer service which is entirely welcomed in this day and age. There is always an employee available to help you and I also like that they employ local residents. They have a large, FREE parking lot. Free parking is hard to come by on Covert Avenue, particularly with the meter maids standing by the parking meters, waiting for them to expire so they can write you a ticket. All in all, I would highly recommend this Keyfood to anyone that lives in the area. read more

I have been going to this store for more than twelve years. It has always been a problem at the register because I pay using a check. The cashiers are unknowledgeable and poorly trained, they always rely on the front ends for help who are always nice and ready to help. I enjoy going to the store at night because all the cashiers are more polite than the ones at the midst of the morning. I like the young staff because they always get what you need without yelling at you or showing you attitude. Good store for all your basic needs, all the managers are helpful when you need certain items. Great store besides some unwelcoming employees. read more

Good Selection, and it is close to me, but personally, I prefer Stop and Shop.
