I used to shop here regularly, but the quality has gone downhill. I saw them making roti, which was good, but then witnessed someone sneeze on the samosas without any hygiene precautions. Many of the sweets repeatedly have mold or fungus, possibly because they aren't stored properly or should be frozen. Some items seem expired, and I've gotten sick multiple times after eating from here. It used to be much better, but now I'm honestly scared to shop here. I love this place. It has everything I want to get in terms of Indian groceries and food. I usually go here to shop for snacks and sweets. But sometimes I also buy their freshly made rotis, theplas (by Western standards, they would be a type of tortillas) etc. I usually find a good variety of savory snacks here that I am a fan of. Prices are generally reasonable. The service is fine. I agree with Mak B. who wrote about watching for the narrow aisles and weekend foot traffic. This store gets congested. A lot of people come here to shop and they are all of the place. Kinda ironic as the traffic from where I come in India is like that too. :-P I like their ice cream selection as well. Good variety to choose from. Some brands are pricey, some aren't. But I feel that if you are a fan of Indian ice cream, then if you'll generally find what you are looking for. Their mithai (sweets) selection is good as well. I haven't shopped for produce here so I don't know how that selection is. I would definitely recommend this place. Its a scam, almost every time they charge at-least $3-$7 extra . Not much right - but think if its happening with every alternative customer (conservative counting) and IF they are getting this extra money from atleast 50K customers every week. so minimum $150,000 per week stolen money. Patel Brothers Grocers has been here for a while. We've never been in the area when we needed groceries, and this time we did need a few things. We found the location to be well stocked, clean, and very interesting. Yes, this is primarily an Indian grocer. As such, I have to admit there was a lot that I was not familiar with. And, with some writing in Hindi, it wasn't always easy to know what we were looking at. Even in English, I learned that I knew less about Indian foods than I thought. The produce was really nice. Some very unusual items (at least from an American cuisine standpoint). Everything looked fresh and clean. We picked up a few items, the only "unusual" item was Star Fruit, which I have not had in quite a while. In the back is an area where they have homemade foods, a few of which we tried and they were delicious. We picked up from frozen foods, some spices which we don't see at (for example) Jewel, and other items we wanted to try. Pricing is a little higher than Jewel or Mariano's, but not too far off. We plan to go back with friends who know more about these foods than us to learn more next time around. read more

I go here all the time and they usually have good food at the bakery but I asked for some samosas today and lady grabbed it from the back instead of what was displayed. When I took a bite from the samosa it tasted a little funny and looked a little burnt but thought nothing of it since I eat from here all the time. Two hours later I am puking like there is no tomorrow and had really bad stomach ache. Pretty sure they refried some old samosas instead of giving me fresh once. If you're cooking Indian foods, this is your place. Yes, it's a grocery store, but geared toward Indian food. I've been here several times and they have a wide variety of options, and a pretty big fresh foods (Fruit and Veggies) section. The biggest issue with this store is that it's constantly packed with people. I guess that's because it's a popular place to go, but it makes it hard to move around and it gets frustrating. There are other Indian grocery stores, but they aren't as big. I also go to Vishnu foods grocery store on Algonquin road in Schaumburg. No one was rude however as I was putting away my cart among many other carts, an Indian female staff person insisted that I give her my cart??? not sure why she needed my cart when others were available. When I visited Chicago for the first time, my friends recommended to visit Patel brothers for Indian stuff... To my surprise I got all the foodstuff including basic needs, Groceries, sweets, vegetables, fruits, Festival stuff, Indian songs etc under one roof.... I shop regularly in this place and feels homely... Prices are reasonable. All the staff there very helpful and courteous.... Unlike other stores in US, Staff helps in putting foodstuff in the carry bags and also in the Trolley. read more

Nice store...the lunch hour on a weekday is a good time to go. The produce section is lovely, and they have some items you will not find at Jewel (Thai eggplant, banana leaf, etc.). Got some fresh buns and chappati in the back since they are new to me. (Spoiler alert: I'm not familiar with Indian cuisine.) It seemed like they had a lot of workers, but I felt embarrassed to go out of my way to ask how to use certain foods (like the to-go section in front). The new building is in a great location. The store itself is huge. The selection of vegetables is displayed so much better and the actual assortment of vegetables available is vastly improved. Instead of picking up your Indian groceries is out of cardboard boxes, you feel like instead you are at a real grocery store. There are people in the back making fresh Chappati's that are sooooooo good. They actually are giving out a free bag of Chappati's with each purchase. They are warm, soft and actually taste good even a day or two after your shopping. With the much larger store it makes it so much easier to find things which is nice. And you are not plowing each other over in the tiny isles like the old store. I actually found myself being pleasant to the people around me, instead of fighting an old aunty to try to get the "good" okra. I have a few complaints 1. There were not enough check-out people available. They have plenty of staff helping to find things, just not enough people at the registers. 2. There are no places to park the grocery carts outside, so if you have a nice car.....park far away to avoid a wandering cart that was left in the parking lot. Also since it is the grand opening of the new store, they are giving 10% off the total purchase!! I can't wait for all the other stores in the Plaza to open up soon. read more

Patel Brothers is one of the busiest Indian Grocery Store I have ever been to. It's a madhouse every day. There is nothing that they don't carry but there no way you can find everything before you run out of patience and courage. They keep everything organized but still the customers keep it hard to find. Fruits and vegetables are fresh. There are enough raw materials and dry snacks to chose from. I have always been impressed by the check out clerks and their efficiency. Its a must visit place if you are looking for any food from India, especially Gujarat. I randomly stopped in here today after being curious about this place for a while. I honestly didn't even know it was a grocery store until recently. For some reason, I thought it was a furniture store when they were building it. Anyway, everything is fresh and everything is displayed nicely. They have a bakery on the back that's making fresh breads all day. They have fresh produce, desserts, spices, frozen foods, noodles, etc. There's sweets and snacks everywhere. It's awesome. I'm not familiar with a lot of the stuff, but every aisle was labeled and organized so things were easy to find. I got garam masala, along with a couple other things. All the employees there are super nice and helpful. They didn't look at me all crazy and make me feel out of place, even tho I was a random asian girl walking around amazed at all the stuff. This is probably one of the busiest place i have seen since I have been here. Recently, moving from California, I have to say this place has everything I could ask for when it comes to Indian spices, dessert, fresh Rotis and much more. All available in one place. Which is quite amazing. This place surely deserves 5 stars but the parking lot is so busy and very difficult to find a parking spot, so if you are here to buy just a thing or 2, get ready to spend 25 minutes or more. Went to buy rotis at Patel Schaumburg. In spite of waiting forever the lady working kept giving rotis to Indian guys who came after me and not me. I don't look Indian. I had asked for 25 rotis In a packet. Instead she gave a 25 packet of rotis to the guy behind me in line! It was sheer racial discrimination! It's not like they didn't have rotis coming out of the machine. There was a heap out there. She took the rotis and instead came back after packing them in small packs of 4! Small packs cost more. The new location is 100 times better than the last one! There is an Indian pickle bar when you walk in, followed by a great selection of produce. Patel Brothers is the epitome of Indian food stores nationally with new locations popping up every month it seems like. This store is perfectly sized and organized. I was recently there for their Diwali sale when prices were obviously hard to beat but their employees were in full force. The aisles were stocked with employees ready to answer questions and trilingual to facilitate conversation with all ethnicities. They were in uniform as well so that they were easily identifiable and they really seemed to know where everything could be found without needing to browse. It was chaotic while I was there as it was the last day of the sale (?) but they were still very composed and available. My only complaint is that their Hispanic employees should speak English to also be able to address questions. We came across a couple only to realize they were pointing at the Indian employee to answer our question rather than the product or aisle. Not a complaint rather a suggestion, the store should stay open until 9p. That's the standard for most markets. My mom begs to bring the next Patel Brothers to Des Plaines! read more

What an amazing experience. A manageable sized store with fresh, frozen, canned and boxed imports from India, as well as a large selection of the appropriate spices. Vegetables that you won't find in most conventional groceries, a deep selection of rices, teas, and Indian breads. Yes,They have all Indian goods.But don't expect any civility.Cashiers speak Gujarati or Hindi amongst themselves unless you speak those languages yourself.They just don't even look at you as they hand the receipt.This last time when I went ,all the goods were thrown into the plastic bags.The woman did not bother to place them in the cart,& on top of it,tells me "thank you auntie", when I did that.I thought that was her job.But Oh how attentive she was when it came to making sure the numbers were entered correctly by the trainee she was working with!! One of my favorite places to pick fresh produce or Indian groceries in the Schaumburg area! They had a smaller store in a different Schaumburg location but the new one is much more spacious and provides lot more variety! For Indian cooking, one can comfortably complete their entire shopping of fruits, vegetables, groceries, spices, frozen items and short eats at this store entirely. Despite the huge foot fall this place receives, the displays are well maintained. Price points are also reasonable for the quality. Staff are around in case you need any help around the store. A note of caution would be that the weekends can get jam packed but that speaks a lot about the popularity of the place I guess :) read more

The selection is out of this world. The store is super clean, the bakery has excellent food, well organized and all staff was more than willing to assist. I made Lamb Rogan Josh and a few other dishes that turned out excellent, and the kicker is that I can hardly make macaroni and cheese and have it turned out. They have every spice you can think of. I now shop here for my vegetables. If you are looking for lamb or other meat, there is a store right next to Patel Brothers. This store has everything you need to prepare any type of Indian food. With the COVID-19 pandemic at large most if not all stores are taking strict precautions when customers are shopping in their stores. Not this store. They deceive you by outwardly showing lines outside the stores making people stand 5-6 feet apart and then offer you gloves to shop, which isn't even needed because gloves can and will cause cross contamination. Once I went inside it was a fish market. It was ridiculously crowded!!! There was no room to walk without bumping into people. I am not joking or exaggerating when I say that. My heart sank. I didn't even know how the heck I would get out. People were wearing masks just chilling, laughing and talking instead of quietly shopping, getting what they need and then exiting. I didn't even take my phone in....although I wish I had so I could share the chaos. There was no implementation of the 6 feet rule even though they had visible floor signs. Customers were ignoring them but employees around weren't saying anything either. I'm not happy when I'm there. When I went to look for items and asked an associate, nobody would answer my questions, just ignoring me. They were very rude. Not only that but the Cashiers only speak in their language, that's disrespectful because they could be talking something behind the customer's back. And they just throw the items into the carts. I like Patel brothers as it carries all kinds of Indian stuff we need. But as a south Indian i feel they don't concentrate on south Indian foods much. They come on and off.. even if we ask for the items that was previously there and not found afterwards we don't get them.
