In booking appointments and asking questions, West Dermatology had the WORSE service and availability. I was really impressed by Alexis S. the receptionist who books and schedules appointments. She was friendly and went far and above to answer questions and helping me get the soonest appointment. You're staff say a lot about your office and how you do business. Tracy Wiegand is an excellent injector and dermatology provider. She only suggests procedures and recommendations that she wholeheartedly believes will improve your skin. I was hesitant on chemical peels but she had suggested the Vitalize peel. I am one week post peel now and my skin is glowing, smooth, less congested and my acne scars are much softer. I have seen more results with this one peel than I have on any product or regimen from Sephora, Ulta, etc. I also got botox with Tracy and was extremely impressed. She has a deep understanding of facial anatomy. She guided me through treatment of my TMJ and masseter hypertrophy with precise accurate injection sites. As a result, I have absolutely zero side effects from the botox such as bruising, swelling, tenderness or heaviness at the injection site. I will only be seeing Tracy moving forward. I trust all her recommendations and she only has the patient's best interest at heart. Front office staff are the worst folks I encountered. They don't trust customers, and classified all customers as "you guys" and they have automatic assumption that people don't make payments, so asked down payments to cover their cost. I've been coming here for regularly and often over a decade, for my Botox, filler, laser hair removal and other dermatology needs. I don't understand the poor reviews at all; I've seen both doctors and several nurses here, and everyone's absolutely lovely. The work they do on me is gorgeous, the prices are fair, and they're ethical (I stay looking beautiful but never overdone). It's not the most glamorous looking lobby, maybe that puts people off or something, but everything else about this place is great. I've been to Beverly Hills spots; they don't do better work and they charge far more. Tracy Wiegand and her assistant Laura performed my MiraDry procedure. They did a wonderful job of explaining the procedure and were overall helpful in setting my expectations for the process. I would recommend them as excellent providers. Working with through the bureaucracy of the office was of average difficulty for setting up this appointment. I had my consult done at another Pacific Dermatology Specialists location. When I finally decided to schedule the procedure 6 months later, by that time it had moved to this location and significantly increased in price. Additionally, a receipt for my deposit could not be emailed to me, I had to retrieve it in person. Thankfully for this appointment there were no difficulties beyond this. read more

Just a horrible experience. The scar from a simple excision from 1-1/2 years ago is still quite noticible (and I have many to compare), but the real issue is with their billing practices. I received an initial bill for my first visit within a month and paid the amount due after insurance. I received another bill 11 months later for pathology services, which was eventually paid, but I failed to be able to contact anyone in their office with questions I had. Their bills are handled in Chicago by 'The Dermatology Group' and they are unable to answer any questions outside of what the bill shows. Then I receive another bill from Palos Verdes Dermatology (yes I went to Patient Preferred Dermatology in Los Alamitos). This bill was received 15 MONTHS after the date of service, showed as 120 days past due (seriously?) and was denied payment by insurance. I was told they were out of network. I filed an appeal with insurance as I clearly was told otherwise before making the appointment and insurance had already approved earlier claims for the same appointment date. The claim was quickly adjusted by the insurance company. Statement date on adjusted claim was 6/21/24 and then they immediately sent it to collections, their statement date 7/9/24. I just paid the amount due. Since they never attempted to contact me by phone to explain why any of this occurred and take responsibility for their lack of competence, I have decided to leave this review. Proceed with caution with this company. Not so great skin repairs and terrible billing policies. I'll be driving an hour back to where I lived previously to get dermatology care with an amazing doctor and never any billing issues. read more

I terminated a 30 year relationship today when Dr. Zhe Hou refused to wait 5 minutes after our scheduled appointment. I have NEVER waited less than 30 minutes up to and over an hour to be seen. It says something about a doctor's ethics when they can't wait 5 mins for a 30 year paying patient. My husband got off work a bit later than expected and we called as a courtesy and were refused treatment. We will now be seeing Dr. King at West Dermatology in Los Alamitos. read more

No, thanks. Lost 3 stars because: 1. I waited 30 minutes+ just for a 3 minute diagnosis. 2. I found this place on my student health insurance's website (Aetna). The website said this place is part of the coverage. The receptionist at this place said she couldn't get a hold of my insurance because the line was busy, therefore I paid the full amount of $35, which was supposed to be only $5.30. She could've atleast tried calling back or something! 3. The receptionist/ nurses/ health care administrators seem to not understand my questions. They were starring at me blankly. I asked the nurse if I can just leave or do I need to pay now (I'm new to this.. I've had Kaiser Permanente my whole life), she said oh you can just leave. Then as I was walking out this lady asked me rudely if I've paid yet, as if I was trying to get out of there without paying... all they do is talk and gossip! I totally agree! The front desk assistants always act as if they are being burdened to help you, even if it's just to sign you in or take your payment. The doctors always seem rushed, and the yearly cancer screening I get seems cursory at best. I will say this, though, Tina and Peggy are fantastic nurses: helpful, friendly, experienced. I recently went to try microneedling at Patient Preferred Dermatology. Tracy Wiegand, PA was excellent with me as I was a bit nervous. She was very informative and the experience turned out to be much easier than I expected. Also, I was shocked at how quickly I healed! I'm over 60 so I was expecting it to take longer. I'm very pleased with the result and will return for another treatment soon. Since my microneedling, I have returned to Tracy for Thermage on my eyelids and Botox. Again, she was very informative and very gently with me. I really appreciate how comfortable she makes me feel as I HATE needles. My experience was with Dr. Mark Maida. I was concerned about a mole on my back and decided to remove it. I probably spent at total of 10 active minutes with this doctor and the cost breakdown of this appointment was: Detailed Visit: $170 Diagnostic Biopsy: $165 Tissue Exam: $195 TOTAL: $530 I have Blue Cross PPO so my co pay was $60 plus the remainder of $90.86. So out of pocket I paid $150.86 The Dr. wasn't particularly friendly and he seemed pretty rushed. he also mentioned the broken capillaries on my face but didn't give any suggestions for treatments so I felt like it was just a rude comment. Great experience overall! Called on Tuesday to schedule an appt for my son to see Dr King; office said they could squeeze me in as early as Thursday to see Dr Qaseem so I said 'sure'. I was told to arrive 15min early to fill out new patient forms which I did, and was seen almost immediately after I turned in the forms. The receptionist who greeted us was courteous and friendly (I think she was new and still training) but I am glad she greets all the arriving patients. The nurse who brought us into the exam room was very personable and he made me feel at ease right away. Now to Dr Qaseem. Her bedside manners are exceptional. She was friendly, professional and thorough, very rnever made me feel rushed. So happy we were assigned to her in the spur of the moment. Highly recommend. read more

Got laser hair removal here and they BURNED me! Four months later I have scars all over my bikini line and stomach and was offered nothing to help with it. When I asked the doctor what to do for the Fourth of July they said to just wear shorts. They were certain it would all be fine but I have scars ALL OVER. I could have never gotten lasered and would not have scars on my bikini line. Do not recommend this place and the other reviews don't either. read more

I was a bit nervous about it but her gentle and caring energy was so appreciated and she and her wonderful assistant Simi made me feel at ease throughout the whole procedure and afterwards. Both these ladies are a godsend to this office, as is Haley who was also super nice and helpful. I felt Dr. Hou really knew what she was doing and had excellent communication throughout. I came here for a consultation, and i gotta say - Tina is the most unprofessional nurse/professional i've met. I was trying to get a procedure that is not covered by insurance unless you have a doctors note - and instead of offering ways to help she just tells me to start saving money and said her husband wouldn't even let her get the procedure done for whatever reason. Extremely unprofessional and not don't recommend going here if you're going to be tried to be convinced out of the procedure without even asking what my concerns/symptoms are that I want fixed first. I started with a friends and family discount because I did some contract work for your practice I also paid claims etc.for the medical side in return I was treated this way she on you read your reviews I'm done but I want future clients to know that a practice is only as good as the people answering the phones and getting the patients in. I usually see dr. Fulwider here for acne issues, she is friendly and more approachable but she always seems rushed and wait time is anywhere from 30-45 minutes even if you have an appointment. Dr. Fulwider initially helped my skin clear up about 95% with a medicated face wash and foam wash. Well about a year 1.5 years later I went back cause my problem was coming back and I had run out of the foam wash she couldn't remember what she gave me and gave me something else that didn't help my skin at all. I came back here here recently to get a mole removed and had the awful experience with working with Dr. Clark. What's wrong with her? It is super uncomfortable interacting with her. When she came in the room she didn't even greet me. She just got to the point. Needless to say I'm looking for a new dermatologist to go to. read more

As a first-time patient, I was processed quickly like a drug transaction (not that I would know, personally) and the wait was painless. I've come to see Dr. Maida twice and I noticed he is very rushed. He took care of the issues I had but I felt as though he could have been a lot more thorough. I went to pay on my way out of my second visit and the woman told me that in addition to my copay I owed a balance. Naturally, I asked her what it was for and she looked shocked and annoyed that i asked her. I asked again when she tried to brush it off and asked her to look up what exactly it was for. I dont just hand money over to people if they don't tell me what it is for. I'm sad to write such a negative review, but I felt that my experience and the lack of services provided from this office best fit a 2 star rating. The building itself is a very old structure in a not-so-great area of Pasadena. Luckily I found street parking right away since I made the first morning appointment, however not sure where I would have parked if I made a later appointment -since there doesn't seem to be a designated parking lot for this business. I had a little bit of trouble finding the front door, as there are multiple doors with a million signs for entry. The office itself is very dingy (the furniture are very worn out with tears and stains + the bathroom was extremely unclean) The only positive thing I can say about my experience here is that they didn't make me wait long which has always been a big pet peeve of mine when seeing any doctor. Dr Qaseem was very sweet and honest and always made eye contact when discussing my skin, however there were 2 nurses (or assistants) in the room... and they couldn't seem to get my prescriptions right. The dr would tell the nurses that they needed to add a few things to my list but when going over with it after the Dr had left the room, they seemed confused and wasn't on the same page as what the dr initially discussed with me. In addition, right before I checked out the assistant mentioned that my local pharmacy would call me when my prescription was ready, along with another 3rd party which would sell me a special retinol cream, but I never received any calls. It's been 3 business days since I was last there. At this point, I don't believe that I should call and follow up, I'd rather just find a better dermatologist with adequate staff and cleaner facility. read more

I am dismayed by the reviews that PPD has received and it seems a lot has to do with the front desk staff. I hope the docs read this and consider hiring new people. As for the docs, I love Dr. King, I have been seeing her off and on for at least the past 15 years. I have great confidence in her and the nurses are great, too. I live in Redondo Beach and am still considering making the drive to have my chem peel. I do agree the aftercare instructions are very important for a doctor to discuss with you after treatment, and they should do a better job. Went in this evening to get info about getting three old tattoos removed. I met with Tina the RN that was gonna preform the procedure if I wanted. She was super nice and gave me lots of information. I felt comfortable enough to start treatment that day. Let me just say the laser treatment hurts. But Tina was nice and tried to comfort me best as she could. It was over in about 5 min. I've been coming here for years. RNs Peggy and Kathy & Tina are great! The Dermatologists are expeditious--meaning you'll get out of there quickly and they can get onto the next patient, which could be you! They have been at this level of medical science for a long time (by this point) and you should be confident with your diagnosis and treatment. For the most part the front desk help is friendly! You may sometimes find that one front office lady is quite busy and not be in a sunny, ready-to-greet-you-mood...should have a long, french style cigarette and some leopard print elbow gloves. As far as prices go, I think they are fair, especially once you are an "established customer." For Dermatology, I bypass my GP and insurance and just go straight here because in the end, I will spend less time and money with *one* doctor here than going to my GP, getting a referral, and going to some unknown Dermatologist and paying once again. read more
