Unexpected Billing Issues and Poor Customer Service - Be Cautious. In September, I visited this dermatology office for a skin inspection due to a keratosis on my ear, wanting to ensure it wasn't cancerous. The doctor (or PA) assured me it was most likely benign and mentioned that removal and biopsy were optional. Since I was told the issue seemed non-threatening, I wasn't planning to pursue a procedure unless it was fully covered by my insurance. Before seeing the doctor, I asked the front desk if my insurance, under the Blue Cross Federal Employee Program, would cover both the visit and any necessary procedure. After checking my benefits, the front desk confirmed everything, including the procedure, would be covered under my $45 visit fee. I double-checked with the provider before consenting to the procedure, and they reassured me again. After the procedure, I confirmed one last time with the front desk that there would be no extra charges beyond the $45. To my shock, a month later I received a bill for over $100, covering the procedure and biopsy. I contacted both the office and my insurance. My insurance agent reviewed my Explanation of Benefits (EOB) and found the office's billing confusing. The agent suspected the office might not have verified my specific insurance plan correctly and instead relied on general Blue Cross coverage. Both the agent and I tried several times to reach the office's billing department, but long wait times made it nearly impossible. When I finally reached someone, the representative was rude, dismissive, and insisted that I was mistaken, claiming the office never promised the procedure would be covered. This has been an extremely frustrating experience. I feel misled and taken advantage of--if I had known there would be an extra charge, I would never have gone through with the procedure. Now I'm stuck with an unexpected bill, and the office refuses to acknowledge the misinformation I was given multiple times. On top of that, their billing department has been difficult to reach, and the one conversation I had was unprofessional and accusatory. I am deeply disappointed with the lack of transparency and poor customer service. I wouldn't recommend this practice to anyone. Please be cautious when dealing with them and triple-check any information--especially regarding insurance and billing. read more

I visited his office in 2022. Besides waiting an hour after my scheduled appointment time, I also had a poor experience once back there. Dr. Tabibian was not thorough and brushed off my concerns. I had a lump in my armpit the size of a ping pong ball. For context, I have had three cases of breast cancer in my family, all maternal side. So a lump is always going to scare me. I had it checked by other healthcare professionals and was told it was probably just a swollen lymph node, however it never went down so no way was it just a lymph node. Once in there he told me it's fat. Advised I eat better and work out. At the time I was 18, on a dance team, and lifted three times a week. I was very offended by that. I asked him why does it hurt then but he stood firm in his diagnosis. It is now 2024 and I had to go to a plastic surgeon to get my lump removed. Once opened up the doctor discovered it was a tumor. Due to Dr. Tabibian's negligence, as well as the other doctors I consulted, I could have had cancer festering in my body. read more

Dr Tabibian has a wonderful bedside manner. Who ever answers the calls is rude. I had a two biopsies. I was told the results would be in at one week. They never called. I called them at two weeks, no results. Three weeks, no results. The fourth week I was told the office manager was the only one who can give me the results. 2 stars because of an on going billing discrepancy. Dr. T completely fixed my daughter up. All the medications he prescribed cleared her scalp of a thick scaly crud that we couldn't get rid of on our own. Thank you Doc!! That day I paid my co pay along with paying for a bottle of special shampoo. I paid cash with a $100 bill. The lady gave me my change and I used the change to validate my parking. A month later I start getting a Bill for my co pay. I called the front office, billing department, front office again, billing department again. Every single time I was told they would look into it. It's now 3 months later and they are still trying to collect a double co pay from me. This is poor office management and lack in organization. Billing mistakes are made all the time and it's the responsibility of the office manager to take action. How does $100 go missing?? What happened to the bottle of shampoo I purchased? Why am I not being charged for that again? Whoever rang me up did not input that they collected my co pay and did not account for selling me a shampoo. They should be able to check a surveillance camera to see me paying and check the deposit for that day. It's not hard if you keep good books. I'll be waiting for them to fix this and I will be updating what happens. I hate to think someone put my money in their pocket and is knowingly double billing me to cover themselves. read more

We are taught to trust our doctors and nurses with our health. I went in for a preventative skin check which I have had at other dermatologists a few times before and nothing was ever a concern. After looking at a spot on my leg and being told it was either skin cancer or eczema I was a little alarmed. Dr. Tabibian abruptly told me he wanted to biopsy a different spot (a mole that has been there for years never changed color, shape or size) they have photos of this. I didn't even think to question it as I was concerned with the other spot on my leg he told me could be cancer. After the biopsy and a hole with stitches and now a scar I went back in to have the stitches removed and ask Dr. Tabibian the reason for the biopsy. I was told it was asymmetrical. It was a perfect circle. After receiving the bill I was a little thrown off knowing this seemed to be an unnecessary biopsy, I called the office and the billing department was was given the complete runaround. Billing department was great and so what they could but it was all in the hands of their office manager Susan who is Dr. Tabibian's wife. Of course he could do no wrong. I was back-and-forth on the phone with them for months and basically was arguing with his wife because the billing department had a different reason for biopsy. I also received a bill from American specialty laboratory, which I was told was a second opinion pathology report. I never approved a second opinion and come to find out the first opinion pathology report was doctor Tabibian himself. To sum up the story below be very aware as they are over billing, and doing procedures that are not necessary in order to gain a dollar. I ended up paying both bills because I could not get a solid response back from Susan. The first time she told me she would waive the bill and I would cover the co-pay and the second time she told me she would waive the co-pay. I ended up, just paying it to appease them as money is more important to them as patients. I will not be going back.. read more

Super under-staffed and unresponsive; overpriced; terrible experience. 1) This was my very first and last visit. Right off the bat, while I was waiting in the lobby, I noticed the office was super short-handed. All receptionists are constantly on the phone; no one is available to help patients check in/out or answer any questions. There was a line of patients waiting to talk to someone while no one is available. 2) My appt time was at 2:30pm; I didn't get to see Dr. Michael Tabibian until 3:15pm. He spent a total of 5min with me. 3) After the doctor left my room, no one was available to check me out. I went to the lobby, waited after a receptionist finished her call, and asked her if I need to pay today or get billed later. She said "yes you pay today."; odd that they won't proactively ask for payment once the visit is done? 4) They sold me a bottle of facial wash for $40. The brand is called DERMIONCE. I looked it up and the brand is a trademark of Parham Tabibian, umm... Go figure. 5) My CVS pharmacy told me that one of the Rx Dr. Tabibian prescribed was very expensive so they contacted Dr. Tabibian to provide more information so my insurance could cover it. One week after, no response from the doctor office. I called the doctor office, the receptionst said they didn't receive anything; also she sounded so confused about why/how Dr. Tabibian could help me get insurance approval (btw, I work in the health industry; it is common practice for doctors to work with insurance companies to get additional approval for procedures/medications; I was surprised how the staff here are so inexperienced and ignorant). Anyways, I told her I'll have CVS fax them the form again. I called CVS and they sent in a new request to the doctor's office again. 6) Of course, I never heard from the doctor's office and my Rx was never approved. At that time, I gave up dealing with Dr. Tabibian's office as I don't want to waste any more time with untrained staff. I used GoodRx's telehealth visit and got my prescription within 15min. Btw, my new Rx costs ~ $16 with GoodRx's coupon, not expensive at all! read more

I will highly recommend Dr. Tabibian and Quint, PA to anyone needing an excellent derm team. Scheduling an appointment is always easy and although they are busy the wait is never very long. I usually see Quint who always makes me feel at ease and takes the time to listen to my concerns and addresses them thoroughly. He is so kind and caring! Dr. Tabibian is awesome too, we took our son in for a mole check and the Dr was so compassionate and caring towards him. I have had 8+ visits now for scalp dermatitis, I have never once seen an actual Medical Doctor. I have only been treated by a Nurse Practitioner or Physicians Assistant. I have spent thousands of dollars out of pocket on allergy tests, co-pays, prescriptions, creams, mineral water, you name it. My scalp is no better today than it was the day I walked into Michael Tabiban's office. I have never met Dr. Tabibian in all those visits. I wouldn't recommend anyone to see Dr. TABIBIAN. I made the mistake of seeing good Yelp reviews but didn't read deeper into them. Mostly all the good ones is for Dr. Skipton. I'm the type of person who wants to give people the benefit of the doubt. To believe in "professionals". There were so many red flags but I dismissed them as "well I'm not a Dr or specialist so I will believe they know what's best". But after talking to many professionals and nurses the reality set in how unprofessional and unsanitary the whole experience was. So I had what felt like almond bump on my neck. My husband had a huge bump on his head that he was going to get removed so I thought "might as well get whatever mine is taken out before it gets bigger and will leave a scar". From the first appointment he was rushed and had his mask below his nose. The nurses were so nice and amazing so I was naively thought there's no way they would work under a poor doctor. Then came the appointment to remove for both me and my husband. With mine I just sat in a chair sideways awkwardly as he had his body weight on my back while he was making the incision. Too close for comfort but if it made his incision and removal more precise then I could deal. I was told to keep the tape on over and not to remove it unless it fell off it self. I called in to say it didn't look very good and the soonest appointment was with the nurse practitioner. When I got there July 5th she just looked at it, and said I'll give you some cream to put on it. I find out later from a nurse that they should have cleaned up the area to not only help the infection, but also to help it heal better. As you can see in the photos too, it looked like a stitch broke soon after he put it in as well. Again... I'm over here trusting medical professionals... So I go back in to have Dr. Tabibian take a look and he retapes it with un glover hands (but maybe he washed them before he came in the room). Then the following time with out gloves again he comes and exams my neck touching with his hands. He then decided he would grab me a Cream, so he opened up the door with his ungloved hands, grabbed my chart, opened up a drawer, comes back in to touch my neck again, and then decide he was going to take the stitches out. He has the nurse grab some tool to cut them out, then my husband saw him proceed to pull out and flick the cut pieces of stitches on the ground with his bare hands. He asked the nurse during this time for assistance, and even she was like... Oh wait let me PUT GLOVES ON FIRST. What started off with the idea of "let me get this small bump removed so it won't leave a big scar"... Has turned into this ugly scar on my neck. I had another doctor ask if I HAD SPINE SURGERY. I also had a nurse client of mine ask the exact same thing. So yes, I think something went really wrong if an almond sized bump has left me with what looks to be a scar from spine surgery months later. It took me a while to write this because again... I gave the benefit of the doubt... But after having medical professionals hear my experience and see my photos, they assured me that he was not following sanitary procedures (especially during covid of all times) and my neck could have healed up so much better if they did things properly. I hate writing bad reviews, but if this can prevent someone from going through what I went through and being left with an ugly scar like me, then it'll be worth it. read more

Super bad customer service. My daughter saw doctor today cause of acne, we asked to send prescription to cvs in seal beach. After lunch we went to cvs to pick up the medications but rxs was not there. Instead we got a phone call from first care pharmacy in Tarzana, we don't know where it is located, asking my daughter's insurance info cause they got prescription from doctor's office. We called to the md's office why prescription went there ? One of the receptionist said they sent rxs cause they cover over the first care pharmacy. But actually not cover one of rx and one medication copay $104. I called back to doctor's office try to switch medication with low copay. When I called them I mentioned that they did make 2 mistakes. First of all , sent prescription to wrong pharmacy without noticed us. Second of all , they said will be cover in first care pharmacy but not. But the person who picked up was not helpful, next person who picked up, she didn't listen and speak her own way and hung up the phone . What a rude attitude ? read more

I am a new patient of Dr. Tabibian. I was given an order for labs and made my appointment with quest the following day. I just arrived at my quest appointment and was told that unfortunately they would not be able to see me because the lab order from the doctors office was not filled out with the patient information and since it's a legal document they would not allow me to fill in the patient information myself. It's not so much the fact that it's an inconvenience for me to have to come back to Los Alamitos from Brea and it's not the fact that I need to now reschedule another appointment with quest and take time off work it's the fact that the mistake was not acknowledged when I called the front office and the person that I spoke with did not apologize. read more

Taking your Father in for Skin Cancer screening is always an anxiety filled moment in anyone's life. I took my pops in about two weeks ago to have a couple of skin defects (old stubborn man syndrome played apart in all of this) looked at. The entire process from making an appointment, confirming the appointment and checking in was very smooth. We were taken back to our office shortly after our appointment time, and Dr. Quint Skipton made the process efficient, easy, and comfortable. We ended up needing to get a few biopsies, and the results came back in time. While I don't want to get into my dad's health, I just want to assure the people who are out there that might be going through similar situations that Dr. Quint Skipton is the guy you want to see. He makes it as comfortable as possible, is quick and efficient. He's one of the doctors that actually cares about results and getting people healthy. Where do I start... Before going into this, this negative review has nothing to do with the receptionist staff. The girls have all been super sweet & accommodating. I went to this place for a year or so for a quarterly shot for psoriasis & everything was okay during that time & about a month ago I had a freckle that was a concern so I got a biopsy that ended up coming back Melanoma in-situ & Dr. Quinn Snyder called me to break the news & told me I had to get it taken care of immediately. Melanoma as in cancer, in-situ & the stage it was in (severe), which I did not learn from Quinn. During this time I've had a lot of personal stuff going on with family health as well as the busiest time for work so I needed to fit in my appointment which was originally scheduled for some time in August which is too far out for something that raises such a concern, right? So I call back to try to get in sooner & upon calling I asked to speak to Quinn again to ask questions on things he never touched on. After opening with "Since I have this melanoma...." Quinn tells me "You don't have that & I must be worried sick" & that "im his bro & nothing is gonna happen to me" & also says "Who gave you that news!?" ....Well YOU did when you called me after the biopsy - what are you talking about? At this point i'm just as disappointed that this got mixed up as I am relieved seeing how the last 2 weeks I've been worried about my health & freaking out. That conversation ends with him saying "Well we still gotta get ya in here ASAP to get it all touched up to make sure it's all good" (even though it's not urgent at this point) so I get fit in for an 8:30am appointment later that week. With everything going on (& probably due to the fact I'm now clear of any form of cancer so it wasn't as high of a priority on my list of things going on) I missed the appointment & a receptionist calls me at about 9am to make sure everything's all good. I tell her im sorry & that I'll need to reschedule but it doesn't need to be so soon since I no longer have this Melanoma concern. She immediately follows up with "I'm so, so sorry & don't mean to alarm you & im not sure why this is happening but im reading your chart & it says here you DO have Melanoma & you should get in here to get it taken care of ASAP" I asked to speak to Quinn to ask him what the hell is going on & at this point i'm pissed off & want some answers in form of a PROFESSIONAL doctor & not some loose/vibey 'bro' or 'hombre'. Quinn get's on the phone & opens up with "First off, I don't know where you get off on thinking you can just flat out MISS your appointment when ME & MY ENTIRE staff had to come in 30 minutes early...FOR YOU" (yes, that came from a "professional Dr." that just told me I had cancer, then I didn't, then I did again....) our conversation ended up being Quinn drilling into me, trying to me me feel bad for missing my appointment when really the entire premise of the conversation was about YOU messing up & giving me WRONG information 3 times! DUDE get over it - it's life, shit happens & people miss their appointments ALL THE TIME whether it be for serious reasons or flat out forgetting. He literally kept repeating "YOU DONT JUST MISS YOUR APPOINTMENT WITH ME LIKE THAT" over & over. I couldn't believe it, I had him on speaker & my girlfriend heard the entire thing with her jaw wide open. I hung up & tried again to just get an answer at this point & Quinn jumps on the call & starts harassing me AGAIN. This ended with me calling back a 3rd time & telling the receptionist im done with them & im taking my (business) elsewhere & to email me my Pathology Report. Quinn then follows up with another call & I told him im done with him & im going somewhere else to get the surgery & he ends the call with "GOOD, MAKE SURE YOU ACTUALLY SHOW UP TO THAT APPOINTMENT THEN" (click...) Straight up I've never experienced that level of shittiness by a business or "professional" in any field, ever in my life. This guy himself is a cancer. He's the epitome of the crooked medical field we have to deal with on a daily basis & I really hope he deals with some sort of consequence because of this. His staff was embarrassed to say the least & almost every one there was apologetic when I went back in to get the surgery done by Dr. Tabibian. That was awkward in itself, he was overly accommodating making the experience awkward. Im laying on the table all prepped for surgery & he asks me if I would be interested in helping him with his new pill he's trying to develop & for my "professional opinion" as I work in the marketing/creative field....just get the surgery done so I can be on my way. I'll end it with a few key points as well as attached photos: 1.) He didn't want to give me antibiotics & now my cut looks infected 2.) There was blood spattered on the floor of the room I was in when I got the stitches removed 3.) I received a bill in full after all of that. read more

Despite an initially "imperfect experience" at Dr Tabibian's office we came away with an overall positive impression because of the extremely professional/apologetic/corrective response when we notified them of our complaint. I almost believe it is more impressive when someone responds to criticism in a positive way than it is to just get it right the first time. The response I got from Susan (the office manager) assured me that my (initially negative) experience was not only irregular, but would never happen again (to anyone), so we plan to continue using this dermatology practice. read more

It has been 5 months since I first met Dr. Quint Skipton here. He was always super sweet and friendly whenever I came to the dermatologist for the extractions and chemical peels, so there was never a day that I left the office without a smile across my face :) Well to get down to the details, I have also been using the prescribed wash and gel for about 5 months now, and I can tell there's a drastic difference in my skin. My hyperpigmentation has gotten a lot fainter too. I went to his office around 3-4 times in total, but each time I left his office I was able to see a noticeable change. The extractions got rid of the blemishes that I wasnt able to get rid of at home, and the chemical peels gave a nice exfoliation to my skin. Seeing the pictures I took of my skin around 5 months ago compared to the ones I take today, I can confidently say that my skin barely even concerns me any more. I used to rely so much on high coverage foundations and concealers, but now I don't even use such high coverage products because I don't have many blemishes left to cover! All I have left now are small, occasional breakouts that I get along with my menstrual cycle and minor hyperpigmentation spots that will keep fading over time^^ The only con of using the acne medications would be that my skin type has changed from combination/oily to mostly dry and only oily on my nose^^ I don't know if my skin type will change back to my regular skin type after stopping the medication, but I feel like it's totally worth the cost to have dry yet acne free skin over my regular skin with a ton of breakouts. Of course, there is nothing being wrong with having some acne since it is a natural condition that most teenagers and even adults get from time to time, but mine was starting to get out of hand so I decided to get the help of a professional for once :) I probably would discontinue the use of my initial acne medications once I run out because I feel like I won't need to rely on it by then though!^^ read more

I read reviews before going to this office. I saw people complain about the price for popping a pimple, and that the doctor was too quick to start popping. I took these reviews with a grain a salt, and gave them a try since most reviews were good. My first visit with Dr. Quint Skipton, they were very nice, very patient, explained everything and made sure all my questions were answered. Sure it was pricey but I thought it was worth it, and I got medication that helped (mild case). Came back a month later for a follow up and it was a bit different. Same nurse but she wasn't as nice and friendly, and the doctor came in and started in on my face immediately. I barely got a hello before he was "popping" literally the smallest "pimples" ever. I didn't even know I had them, my skin was CLEAR from the medication I was on. I could barely get a question out to him, he was already walking out the door. Didn't feel very welcome or cared for. Now I'm being charged $127 for "popping" those "pimples" and he wanted me to come back soon for another follow up. Definitely not going back. I'm glad I was able to fix the little acne I did have, but I don't appreciate being taken advantage of and charged for unnecessary things. Side note: I also got prescribed a face wash I ended up being allergic to. I told the doctor I was allergic to sulfa and this was a SULFA face wash.. he insisted the face wash wouldn't bother my allergy as long as I didn't eat it. I had to wait forever to get it because the pharmacy had to get additional approval from the doctor, who they couldn't get to call them back (standard procedure when the patient is allergic to the main ingredient, why wouldn't the doctor automatically give this approval so it's not delayed? Or make a note to call?).. Payed $35 for it and then couldn't get my money back. read more

I remember seeing him for the first time for some moles that needed to be checked and removed; I was surprised how quick and painlessly he removed them. I was very disappointed with the care and customer service. My fiancé and I went there for a cancer skin screen. The doctor took only 3 minutes looking at my whole body , not under a light , to determine I was "fine". I was told by my friend ( who works at a dermatologist office) that they are suppose to look at your scalp and do a very thorough look at you body ( armpits, inner thighs etc. ) none of this was done. My fiancé had a suspicious mole removed and was told they would call him no matter what with the results... no one has called and it has been 3 weeks I was told I needed a cream and the receptionist could not be bothered to tell me details about how to contact the new pharmacy and the cost etc. Beautiful office but bad overall experience read more

His assistant, Michelle is great, too. I had to have a mose procedure on my face. I was fortunate to have it done by Salar Hazani. He was great the stitches don't show and it was a large wound. Scheduled an appointment for my daughter and I here a month ago. I don't regret it. 2 stars for me. I had a bump on my leg. I went to get it checked out and the women (who is no longer employed there) took if off without notice. She said she screened it. No one ever called me with results. I wasn't advised that the visit and procedure would run me 250 with my insurance. Next thing I have a bill. Also the women never sent my correct prescription in. I have a bad scar on my leg now. I went in with my daughter and they said they're sorry. I do believe they are but I didn't like that I had to pay for that. As I'm writing this I realize I'm going to complain about that. As for my daughter that same women put her on a plan she did start to clear up. When we went back in- Quint was apologetic about our previous visit. He treated my daughter. I feel she is benefiting from the treatment. Apparently the other women didn't explain things to my daughter correctly. They gave her a written plan and I feel as though this visit was better than the last. She skin clearing and Quint and another young lady made the rating 4 stars. After my next visit I will revisit the billing situation. I called their billing dept and they were helpful. The front desk couldn't really explain much either. So I'm going to try one more time. Hopefully we'll see sustained improvement with my daughter's skin. Maybe then they'll be five stars. read more

I don't know how they have 4.5 starts with all the bad reviews. I have never seen a business not even a doctor office that cares so much or making money so fast that they Don't even care about the patients. Not to mention the nurse practitioner that slammed the door immediately when I told her I want to think about the micro balding first. They also sell you so many products for so much money whether you wanted or not. I asked for an itemised receipt and they still gave me a joke. They Let a pharmacy to keep calling you to buy more products. This is a rip off and I wonder how no one paid attention to that before. read more

I was told over the phone an office visit would be $50 through my insurance. When I get there the doctor performs "Acne SURGERY" he pricked my face with a blade in 3 spots. I had to pay $115 for the SURGERY. The only benefit is the prescription you walk out with. read more

I can recommend Dr. Tabibian and his staff completely and without reservation. The doctor is professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and empathetic. He takes his time to answer my questions and concerns. I have had many dermatologists over the years and he is the best. This also applies to his assistants, Simi and Melinda.
