Stopped here and. Our way to the Aquarium. Burgers were delicious. I got the cheese burger with jalapeños and they were very generous. Fries were warm and yummy. A lot of reasons this joint should be 5 stars. All it would take is some fresh paint and thorough cleaning. The owner takes the orders and there is no fucking around. I've been here before loved every experience. I've had different burgers and fries, regular, chili cheese, and waffle all delicious and perfect! This time around I ordered the Kalbi Korean short rib plate. It came with the short ribs, perfectly cooked rice, and a plain salad with an amazing house dressing. Cute little place that we stopped at to get lunch. On our way down from San Francisco on Highway one. It was just a cute older couple running it and a good amount of people inside having lunch with us. The menu is pretty extensive as they have American and Asian items available. Some of the prices are a little high but I understand why, as it's a small town, so the import prices may be higher. The parking lot is a little tight, so just be careful going around the corners and parking. There is a bathroom on the backside of the building but it's a little sketchy but it gets the job done. It took maybe a few minutes for our food be ready and it was all hot and very delicious. They did mess up. Our onion rings as they thought we wanted those instead of your fries and not add it on but that's OK. They were still delicious. Since I was a child I've always driven passed this place and never went in. Even as an adult it never drew my attention for some reason. Now that I have my family my son and husband begged to check it out and I couldn't be kicking myself sooner about it. It was delicious! Although the food was good, I've decided to give the Patio Drive In 3 stars. I had been wanting to stop to grab some fries and a dipped cone. I finally did. I was disappointed with the rude attitude of the "owner." He was not only rude to my family and self, but also other clients. When I inquired about my onion rings, he said pay first. I told him I had ordered them and wanted to make sure he got them in my order, and he told me in a very rude way, no! The dipped cone was not at its best. I've had better. The fries were good. Great place for a good burger. I recommend the patio burger served on a hoagie roll with two patties and all the fixings. Fries were a bit limp and soggy. Just a hole in the wall place with limited dining room space, we typically take our food to go. We have been going here for decades. They also served a great carne asada burrito. There is something about the flat top grill that makes it taste great. The soft serve ice cream is a great treat as well. The cook/server is friendly, but is always busy. read more

I had a burger craving. I went on YELP to find a burger spot. I have looked at this spot before and even driven by it. The key that got me was the zuchinni sticks I saw on the menu from a menu picture. Thank you fellow Yelpers. My burger craving was satisfied for sure. Good burger flavor. I ordered the Green Chili burger based on the pictures. I was sad when I got home though as the green chili was not anything like any of the pictures. It was a barely there skinny, thin, non existent chili. Thank goodness it had great burger taste! Fresh lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, and nice and saucy. They even gave me extra fried zuchinni. I ordered the 5 piece and when I got home I happily discovered more than 5 pieces!! Score! The yummy fried smell that permeated my car on the short drive home was really nice as well. The food isn't really that fabulous, but, it was fast, fresh and affordable. I will give them another chance when a burger craving arrives. I hope for a big green chili. Definitely will be back to this spot again. Looking forward to trying a soft serve when the weather heats up. The chocolate dipped soft serve. I met a friend here for dinner. I was quite impressed and will be back. I confused this place with another place that I used to go to and has since closed. The man at the helm didn't have a lot of personality but he was nice enough. I had the base burger and fries. The burger was okay. The fries were perfectly salted and were very good. Next time I'll try the Patio Burger, which my friend said was their signature dish. They also have a deep fried bean and cheese burrito....I am not sure if my stomach will accept that however. Castroville's world famous burger joint! I was born and raised in the wonderful town of Castroville so I'd like to say this place hasn't changed in a GOOD way! Some places over the years cut cost and corners for a larger profit and don't care too much about their loyal customers, not the family owned and operated patio burger. I've been coming here since I was a child with my grandparents and my family it was always a special treat after church we would roll over there and get some patio and cheese and may I add the patio burger comes with fries (in the price) yes you heard it right folks... included ! I don't know too many restaurants that do that especially smaller family owned and operated establishments. The same family has literally been running this place for over 30 years for sure because I am in my 30s and they're young daughter is now grown and looks like she's taking over the family business. Everyone's always nice the food is always consistent. They have these bean and cheese burritos that are anyone's guilty pleasure let me tell you OMG they are bomb. They also have teriyaki plates and they have put a signature of world-famous house dressing on it and it is quite famously delicious. They have Sundays milkshakes malted milkshakes chocolate dipped cones jalapeño poppers basically you name it they got it. Like I said you don't wanna miss out on this place!!!! I had a coworker tell me the other day that they had never been to the patio and they were born and raise in Salinas about 10 minutes away I literally looked at them and said "smack yourself you lived here your whole life never never been there you're crazy!" Needless to say on Monday he told me that he took his family their mom and daughter and brother and everybody was so happy they went and said they wanted to go again within the week to try different options. There was a young man ordering before me and the young girl assisting him treated him so poorly because he didn't speak English. I intervened even though I don't speak fluent Spanish to try & help him order. I responded what he wanted to order back to her in Spanish meaning to respond in English and she responded back to me so rudely. News flash, thank this establishment is in an area predominantly populated by Hispanics. I understand if you don't understand Spanish but be accommodating & treat others respectfully. I've been eating at The Patio since moving to Castroville in 1971 and it's been through at least four or five owners since then. I'm pretty sure the current owners have had it for at least a couple of decades and the food is as good now as it has ever been. I still make the trip from Salinas to Castroville when I have a hankering for a good old-fashioned hamburger. I have no clue what the negative reviews are about. The food is great and I've always had good courteous service from the owners, although their schedule and dining in did get a little screwy during COVID. They are allowing dine-in now. I guess the negative comments just go to prove that there is simply no pleasing some people. read more

I don't take recommendations lightly, so when a close friend of mine insisted I try this spot, I was curious but skeptical. He was not lying, this place is fantastic! Having passed by it every time I drove by Castroville en route to or from Salinas or Santa Cruz, Patio always caught my eye, but didn't think to stop by. Now that I finally ate here a few times, I regret not having come sooner. Alright, enough banter! About the food: The Patio and Super Burgers are exceptional, the latter being my favorite. Two patties with layers of vegetables and good bread makes every bite a delicious and fulfilling one (plus I like the way it's neatly wrapped, which helps prevent the thing from coming apart). Admittedly, I've yet to try their regular fries, since my gluttonous self can't resist the temptation to order them Chili Cheese! They're generous with the amount of cheese they add on it, which I can't say about many other places that serve them. As for dessert? As a "Shake Connoisseur" I'm always on the hunt for a great shake, and Patio certainly provides that. Their Oreo Shake is one of the better ones I've had in recent times, and I'm looking forward to trying their Peanut Butter one next time I go. I highly recommend Patio Drive-In, it really is comfort food that will satisfy you.
