Chef Steven is an accomplished chef from SF who decided to open a small restaurant in Marina, and we are so lucky he did! We love his pasta dishes, risotto, ribeye steak and filet mignon. The sauces and flavors blend perfectly; the steaks are tender and juicy; and nothing beats pasta made in-house! You can taste the freshness in the ingredients he cooks with, and we learned that everything is made in-house from the rolls and hamburger buns to the pasta. You can taste the difference! We also enjoyed his egg drop and wonton soups. So good! Annie always greets you with a smile, and we noticed she knew many customers by name. Just a note that good food is not fast food! Located in a house converted to a restaurant. It has its own small parking lot and street parking available. Good selection of food items to choose from and I liked that they asked if we wanted the fish/oyster sauce or not. It has been a long time since I had really good Chinese food and this place checked that box. It was all good. We had the family meal C and swapped out the prawns for another item with no issues. I should've asked, but I didn't if Annie took our 'to go' order. The lady helping us was very pleasant and kind, and offered a side of vegetable tempura, which was fun & enjoyable. My husband ordered Mongolian beef, which we were looking forward to enjoying... It was fun to try, but I don't think I'd purchased it again because ours was chewy and not all that flavorful...mostly soy sauce or other combo??? I asked for salt and pepper chicken, which I enjoy a lot... How they serve it here is a very different way of preparing it. I liked it, but it was a little dry and a bit chewy. Rather surprised by the delivery of food that we had received given the ratings are so high, (we went on a Tuesday evening....maybe not the usual cook????) A great family owned restaurant that serves great food and service. Annie and her husband are delightful. I ate here with my parents a while ago (I believe it was Christmas) and even they approve of this place! My mom has dietary restrictions and Annie was helpful with ensuring and modifying the dishes to my mom's needs. We've also ordered take out from here and although nothing beats freshly made food, it was still great! The quality goes above and beyond just the food- the service makes you feel at home and welcomed. Just a heads up, there is very limited seating due to it being a fairly small building. I'm not sure how busy it usually gets as I usually see mostly people doing take out but do plan accordingly especially with a group that's bigger than 4! read more

Despite staying in Monterey during car week, we enjoyed our overall stay and Annie's House did not let us down for food! Long story short, we were supposed to have dinner reservations on the Saturday of car week in Carmel but the traffic was horrendous before we decided to turn back to the hotel. We were staying at Springhill Suites, which is like 10 minute drive from Annie's House. It was our last day vacationing in Monterey, we were beat from hiking Point Lobos and tired from the traffic, we just wanted some good, comfy food and Annie's House popped up. We walked in around 5:30pm on Saturday, no other customers. It's definitely a Mom & Pop's restaurant (it's quite apparent that it's literally their house-turned restaurant). The lady was very nice. We opted for their garlic bok choy, Mongolian beef with chow mein, and orange chicken with fried. We were given some fried wontons complimentary. While the food was not the greatest, it was still good and hit the spot! Their orange chicken was a bit too tangy for me which a bit off-putting, but not bad overall. The Mongolian beef was delicious and the chow mein was thicc and good. The garlic bok choy was also good! Plenty of parking (mainly because there was no one else there except us lol). The only thing that kind irked me was that there was no A/C (or at least it wasn't on) and it was steaming hot in there for me and the place isn't that clean overall. I just wanted to give this small shop a quick shout out! If you're ever in the area, stop by and you won't be disappointment with some good ol Chinese comfort food. read more

I had heard about Annie's House a few months ago and had to give it a go. I called in my order of shrimp fried rice, salt & pepper shrimp & sweet n sour shrimp. I had walked into the restaurant a lil early. Everything was very clean and nicely decorated. I noticed several framed articles, well as a plaque, acknowledging the chef for his outstanding work. Chef asked me to try the salt & pepper shrimp. I did. It was amazing! The best I've ever had. It's seasoned perfectly. You have to like pepper tho. I tasted a hint of honey in the batter. Hot and very delicious. Chef also shared with me a coveted photo album of his many amazing culinary accomplishments during his culinary competitions. Not only is he an amazing chef, he also had designed intricate ice sculptures. In all of the photos, his food was beautifully displayed with gorgeous ice sculptures. Once home, we dove right into the food. The fried rice was very tasty and didn't lack shrimp. There were lots of plump succulent shrimp. The sweet & sour shrimp was packaged separately from the sauce to keep the shrimp crispy. We coated our shrimp with the sauce on our plate. Absolutely delicious. There was a perfect balance in the sweet n sour flavors. Everything was made to perfection. I can totally appreciate all of master chef's knowledge and preparation of his food. My fiancee and I who are locals discovered this randomly and what a pleasant surprise it was! The food (orange chicken and sweet and sour for me anyways) is really good and the owners put their effort into the food which shows. It's cute as a sit-down restaurant, and the character of the building being able to make people relax in comfortable clothes and not worry about dressing up nicely, like some of the other places around town. I was traveling through and wanted to find some good takeout. Once I arrived, I decided it would be nice to eat there as opposed to taking it back to my hotel for a change in the scenery. I'm happy that I did. The service was amazing and very friendly. I ordered the sesame chicken with chow mien as a side and pot stickers as an appetizer. When the pot stickers came out, they also brought me a complimentary order of tempura veggies. The pot stickers were some of the best I've ever had! As a pilot, I've tried them all over the world and I can say that with confidence. The sesame chicken was good, and not made with the chicken scraps that I've had at other places, and the chow mien was also very good. It was a little different as it appeared to be a little pan fried, but that added texture that was welcome. The tempura veggies were also good. The family and I were visiting Monterey for the weekend and my husband was craving Chinese food. We found this cute little spot and decided to give it a try. My husband is very picky when it comes to Chinese food, especially with his lemon chicken, but here at Annie's House, he rated his experience a 10 out of 10! Our entire family enjoyed every single bite of the delicious food we ordered. Our 4 year old had 3 servings! That's how delicious the food was! Their place is small around 30 seats. But thier food is extra large in flavor. Come hungry but bring your patience please. Annie is the only hostess and Steve is the only Master Chef. Now and then you may have a longer than usual wait for your amazing meal. Trust me, it will be worth it. Annie will always bring you out tempura treats on the to thank you for your patience. First visit to this tiny spot since Annie has owned it, Her husband is an excellent chef with an impressive cooking career. The Cantonese style Chinese food we ordered was uniformly delicious. Portions were generous and the ingredients were fresh and well prepared, the menu is expansive, offering Italian options, American fare, etc, a fellow diner who was a frequent customer raved about the Italian food options that are offered. I've lived in Monterey since 95 and haven't found a good Chinese restaurant. Believe me, I've tried. I had the Hong Kong style crispy noodles. It was delicious. Annie gave me a free Chinese style tempura. Light and crunchy. I will be coming back. A downside for some is no alcohol. Maybe they got tired of dealing with inebriated customers. My husband and I were looking for a new local spot to try out in Marina. I found Annie's place and the reviews seemed promising. Sadly it did not hit the mark for us completely and we were left feeling underwhelmed. We ordered the potstickers- my husband was not a fan and felt they were mediocre. Also no potsticker sauce was provided aside from this strange red sauce that he was not willing to try. The hot and sour soup was good, and I love that I could order a smaller portion. We each tried the combination plates- I tried the Mongolian beef (it had great ratings) with the chow mien. My husband got the orange chicken with fried rice. The main was good on both of our plates no complaints but the sides had this off putting taste. We both really wanted to like the sides but the taste made it impossible to enjoy. Before I get into the food, I must say having been on the West Coast for over 10 years now but having grown up on the East Coast, there IS a noticeable difference in how Chinese food is prepared in both taste, technique, and presentation. I don't the the specifics, just that it's different, for example, stark differences in how Egg Foo Young is prepared and served. That said, my taste buds still prefer East Coast Chinese food. Walking in, the place is intimate but noticeably clean and I was greeted warmly by the female owner (hubby was in the kitchen cooking). This was my first visit and she was very helpful in helping me decide what to order. It was chilly outside so I immediately went for the Hot & Sour soup. I also ordered two combination plates (Mongolian Beef & Chow Mein was plate 1 and Lemon Chicken and Fried Rice was plate 2). I also took home an order of the veggie egg rolls. Overall, the food was decent. Again, I prefer maybe a different style of preparation, for example the fried rice was more mushy and fluffy than fried to me. The Lemon Chicken was tasty but a bit on the sweet end for me. Very nicely prepared however and would recommend for those who don't mind sweeter sauces. The Hot & Sour soup was still very hot (temp) by the time I got home and it was packed with flavor. I was not a fan of the egg rolls either. Nothing wrong with flavor or anything, just not my favorite However, the star of the show was by far the Mongolian Beef and Chow Mein. Mongolian Beef is one of my favorite dishes and I'm always skeptical when ordering this dish because I've been to so many restaurants who just don't get it right. Annie's has this one in the bag! I was instantly upset when I was done because I wanted more. Whatever magic they do in the kitchen with this dish is well worth a visit. Overall, I enjoyed my food and would definitely recommend and will certainly be back. Update: the egg rolls are good! Much better the 2nd day. read more

Honestly do not let the exterior of the restaurant deceive you, this was one the best chinese restaurants that I have visited. They have a wide selection of items to choose from pastas, american food to chinese food. We choose to get the family dinner which was $23.95/person and comes with a ton of dishes. For my drink, I got hot tea which was fantastic after a long day of hiking. The weather was cold outside so this warmed me right up. The owners surprised us with a plate of tempura vegetables (on the house!) which pretty good. My favorite was the tempura brocolli (light and crispy). Next was the wonton soup, which had bok choy, bbq pork, chicken and homemade wontons. The soup was flavorful and delicious. Then came the egg roll, fried prawn and pot sticker. The egg roll and fried prawn were okay, but the pot sticker was homeade and had a thick outer wrapper and juicy filling. Super good. Our main entrees started arriving with the fried rice first. The fried rice was really good. The rice was more gluttonous and sticky. It was mixed with chicken, bbq pork, shrimp, egg, peas and carrot. The sweet and sour chicken was light and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Overall solid dish. The beef and broccoli was really good. The beef was super soft and when eaten with the brocolli tasted amazing. Overall the food was pretty good, would stick to main dishes over the fried ones. You definitely get your moneys worth with the family dinner option. We were so full after and still had a ton of leftovers. The owners were very sweet and gave us extra wonton soup to take home since we were not from here. The best part was the AMAZING customer service. They care a lot about their customers and make an effort to have conversations to get to know them.
