My experience with Patricia Dee Pet Grooming was so good that it has convinced me to write my first ever Yelp review. If you want to skip my lengthy review- long story short, Patricia and Tom are amazing! My cat (Chappie) is a big, strong Maine Coon with thick, long fur. I've never had any issues with his coat, but for some reason, this summer his hair started matting like crazy. I attempted to brush them out myself, but quickly realized that would be impossible. I first checked with my vet who said they would sedate him as part of the process, which I didn't feel comfortable with. So, I checked Yelp reviews and found Patricia. I felt like I was on the right track immediately upon calling. I had a long list of questions and concerns due to never having taken my cat to be groomed, and because of the severity of the mats. I spoke with Tom and he and answered everything with as much detail as he possibly could and gave me great advice (didn't just rush off the call and tell me to come in, which is what I was expecting). We set an appointment for 7:45 am which is before they open, but Patricia was so concerned about this first groom being stressful for Chappie, that she made an exception so that he could come in before any other pets showed up. Patricia allowed me to watch the whole grooming process which made me feel a lot more comfortable. Chappie was not thrilled about being clipped, and when I was unable to keep him calm, Patricia was somehow able to relax him. After the shampoo and blow dry, Patricia noticed some small nicks around Chappie's neck that I hadn't even realized were there (I want to note; this was on an area that was not even touched during the clipping process...Chappie had recently been in a fight with a neighbors cat). Even though addressing a previous injury is obviously not her job, Patricia took the time to apply ointment to each cut, just out of concern. I would also like to mention, I was terribly embarrassed to be bringing my cat in in that condition, but neither Patricia or Tom ever made me feel ashamed, which I really appreciated. I stumbled across Patricia Dee's grooming online and I'm so happy that I did. Patricia Dee, Tom and the other staff are very personable and have a natural gift for working with customers and animals. First of all, they were helpful in working with my schedule and arranging a grooming during this busy time during the holiday. They took time on the phone to discuss my dogs- 2 Scottish Terriers- and paid much attention to their needs, which I appreciated being a first-time customer. On grooming day (today), I received a warm welcome with assistance (as I had my two babies with me) at the door. What really impressed me was having the opportunity to talk with Patricia Dee and Tom about the history and any concerns regarding my dogs, which made me feel at complete ease. After having the dogs groomed at places where I didn't meet the groomer, this was very reassuring. The dogs came out so beautiful and happy with perfect Scottie cuts when I arrived! I haven't been gone an hour and have written this review. It's important to showcase people these days who are highly competent and professional. I got my first dog about six months ago (a Morkie- Maltese/Yorkie mix) and was totally lost when his hair started growing out of control and getting shaggy. I was terrified of sending him to a place like Petsmart, so I did some research and found Patricia Dee and her wonderful reviews thanks to you Yelpers. I am SO glad I did!!! My Maximus looks AMAZING!! One of the reasons I was scared to get him groomed is because I got used to his long hair and was scared of him losing his "cuteness" factor after seeing some pretty bad haircuts out there. Patricia made him 10x cuter than he used to be!! The length is perfect, and the trimming looks immaculate. She also got rid of a few matts he had on his legs and left him the softest he has every been. The icing on the cake was definitely how sweet she was to my little guy. He was so comfortable with her from the very beginning and she was very loving towards him. This place is a little pricey, but it is definitely worth it! My first time bringing in my Persian Cat to groomers here in the DC metro area, as I'm originally from Chicago and have gone to groomers out in IL most of my life. I brought my Persian in for a Lion Cut (a difficult task!!!). Cats are not the easiest animal to work with and Patricia has very tender hands. I noticed all the animals in there were very calm and it did not "smell" like a wet dog upon walking in (which was awesome!). She has a very good nature that is apparent to all the animals in there and I felt that is why my cat trusted her. He usually shakes in fear when meeting new people and he was very calm in her hands. His coat was severely matted (my fault) and she perfected him. I was impressed! I'm not one who trusts generic PetSmart/Petco grooming (they don't even work on cats) but for my dog. I've recently moved to Maryland and I was looking for a grooming salon for my cat, a rescue from the streets of Cairo - terrifying environment - afraid of all kinds of loud noises (hoover, dryer). I chose Patricia's on the strengh of the reviews. The first time, I just left my cat in her care : the nail clipping, bath had gone very well, but he'd become afraid of the hair dryer and she didn't insist too much. On the whole it was a good time for him. The second time, early Sunday morning, as there weren't any other customers yet, she let me stay and observe. Not only did I learn several useful tips (for the nail clipping and the best kind of comb to use) but I watch Patricia interact with my cat and put him at ease. She even managed to find a solution to let him accept the hair dryer. I highly recommand her : she clearly loves the animals she's grooming and has a magic touch when it comes to handling even the shy/cautious ones. read more

When you think of hope, think Patricia Dee Pet Grooming. I have a 16 year old Cock-a-Poo, named Jasper that needed grooming badly. I called 14 places, from mobile, to animal hospitals to your traditional groomers and no one would take my baby. I was told that at his age he's a liability, one place said their age limit to groom dogs is 12 years old. Really? So what is an owner with an aging pet to do. I spoke with her and her husband and they both told me the ins and outs of grooming a dog of this age...I had some hope. However, they never told me "no". I knew he was matted, but not to the degree that they saw. They worked and worked and my Jasper is so happy. He come through with flying colors. His mommy is happy. Patricia is the most wonderful groomer and is amazing with my cat. My longhaired cat's fur gets matted when it gets too long and we have to have him shaven about once a year. He is the sweetest cat, but he turns pretty nasty when Patricia starts trying to get at the mats near his tail and back legs, but she handles it like a true professional. She is gentle and kind yet confident, in control, and able to expertly handle my cat, who weighs 25 pounds and is VERY strong, even when he starts hissing and swiping his claws at her. Any other groomer would likely refuse to shave and groom our cat without sedating him, but he is old and has very serious health issues so we don't want to take that risk. In addition to Patricia's skill with my cat and her genuine love of animals, I really appreciate that she does not do any sedation and that she lets me stay with my cat while he is being groomed. I have been a customer with Patricia for over 17 years and I pray each AND everyday Patricia will not retire (sorry =) Patricia and Tom have the experience and knowledge to run a successful and loving facility for our pets. Trust is hard to come by these days and we always want the best for our children! They are extremely patient with animals, loving, caring and treat our pets as if it were their own. On top of her professional grooming skills, Tom and Patricia have a wonderful staff! Put it this way, my two dogs know who Mom #2 and Dad #2 are, just say their names and they are ready to go! Patricia and Tom saved our dog Sandy's life. We had been treating Sandy for stones with a special diet and antibiotics and when we took her in for grooming, they noticed that she wasn't acting like herself. They called and asked us if they could check with their vet. Everyone agreed that we were doing the right thing, but Patricia and Tom knew something just wasn't right and asked us to keep a careful eye on Sandy. When she got home she stopped eating and by Monday morning she had emergency surgery for the stones which were starting to cause a blockage and she is now doing great. If they hadn't noticed that she had taken that turn, we might not have acted as quickly and she might not still be here. How often is a groomer so attuned to your pet's needs and so caring? After having two negative experiences with groomers I asked my Vet.for a recommendation. He immediately gave me Patricia's name. When I told her of my experience with a groomer that resulted in my dog having a bare spot on his hip she told me immediately that he needed to be scissor cut not cut with clippers. She did a beautiful job that first day and every time for several years now. I always look forward to picking up my little toy poodle after he has been groomed. He always look so cute! My little guy has had several illnesses over the years and Patricial always asks and is concerned about him. She is always willing to accomodate me when I have to get him in with short notice or if I have to cancel due to a medical problem. I have Scottish terriers, not the easiest dogs to cut (the beards, the eyebrows, the double coat...). Patricia Dee has groomed 3 of my scotties for almost 20 years, and she's the best! My first scottie, Cedric, was 12 when one day I stopped by to pick him up, Patricia greeted me with a very worried look. She said Cedric, such a little gentleman all the time, would not let her touch his lip. She pulled it back and found an ugly growth, and she urged me to get him to a vet quickly. Turns out he had cancer of the jaw, inoperable. With chemo and radiation he lived another 8 months. I'll be forever grateful to Patricia for alerting me to the problem. Patricia Dee's grooming is the place to take your most loved furry pal! From calling to make a simple question to scheduling an appointment was easy and always friendly. I was encouraged to stay with my cat as he got his first grooming with Patricia. I was so surprised to see my cat calmly stay in the tub as she bathed him and massaged him(he normally tries to plan an escape) but she was able to comfort him and I felt as though I was looking at an entirely different pet! Patricia was so accommodating to the fact that it was first time that she schedule him to be her first client. I was welcomed into Patricia Dee pet grooming in a polite way and my dog was treated very well. I didn't have a problem with anything. My dog was comfortable with everyone who came into contact with him, they were easy to communicate with and I highly recommend them. Ranger5 and I will return in the future. I took Ranger5 back a second time to Patricia Dee pet grooming and again they did a wonderful job. My boy has atopic dermatitis and requires regular baths with medicated shampoo. This has been financially difficult as I am a disabled veteran living on a fixed income. Where do I begin? I recently moved to Maryland from out of state and I was feaverishly looking for a new dog groomer. After searching all over Yelp, I decided to give Patricia Dee Pet Grooming a try. My dog and I could not be more ecstatic of the hospitality and results. Patricia Dee allowed me to come into the grooming studio and become acquainted with her prior to leaving my dog in her care. I was so nervous to take my 9 year old main coon cat in for his first grooming appointment, but Patricia put us both at ease and did an incredible job! He had gotten pretty matted so she did a "lion cut", which I was also a little nervous about because I've seen pictures of cats looking completely ridiculous with this haircut, but I'm so happy with how it turned out! He's somehow even cuter, his fur feels so soft, and I think he seems a lot more comfortable. Plus it's cut down on all of his shedding. I took my golden retriever "Cali" to Patricia Dee for a hair cut and I cannot give enough kudos. Our dog is 8 years old and this is the first hair cut that I would say was done professionally. My husband and I look at her and cannot stop saying how great she looks. The best cut that looks great on her. I wanted a cut for the swimming pool this year, but this is so adorable I will keep it like this all year long. I originally went to Patricia Dee back in the early 80's when we had our Yorkshire Terrier, and since I was very pleased back then, I thought I would try again with my golden. I've had 6 poodles that Pat has groomed over the past 15 years. I've also used many groomers in the area for the past 20 years. There is absolutely no other groomer that has Pat's skills. My dogs are show quality when they leave and Pat really knows her stuff. And everyone that I've referred has been just as happy. Their prices are fair and you absolutely get what you pay for.
