I have been a customer since 2020 and I can say that this is one the most disorganized unserious businesses I have ever encountered. At first I was encouraged, they had a cat groomer that was very communicative and prices were reasonable. I would bring my previous cat for grooming but it was always difficult to schedule an appointment because they rarely answer the phone. On one occasion, I thought, let me go physically to the office to make the appointment. The door was open and no one was in the shop. The next day when I came again to make the appointment, the receptionist laughed and said they had someone new and that person didn't know how to lock up. Unfortunately my previous cat died and I got a new cat in late 2022. I explained the death to the receptionist when I booked the new cat for grooming. When I got to the appointment, she was calling the new cat the dead cats name--I had to explain to her again. Two additional times, when I was booking grooming, I had to tell the receptionist that the previous cat was dead. It was the same person but apparently cannot or will not update their records? Most recently booked grooming in November 2025. My cat gets the same thing every time and that was confirmed on the phone with the receptionist. When I arrived, the person at the front desk asked what the cat was getting done, and I answered confused, "she gets the same thing every time, do you not have the card?" Then she found the card, like "oh okay". Hours later, my mother called me to tell me she had a missed call from the groomers. I called several times, no one picked up. Now I'm concerned. If you don't pick up the phone when my cat is in your care, that's a huge problem. I drove to the shop. The receptionist is laughing with a client and a dog. Then I'm thinking, "is this why they're not picking up the phone". I ask the receptionist "is my cat ready" she responds, "good question" as if it's a joke?! She walks back and says, "I just got here". That's so unprofessional and irresponsible. When I talk to the cat groomer, I explained my concerns and that I have been a customer for years. He says they don't have a receptionist in the morning--which I did not know. Then he refuses to apologize for the gross misconduct. I got an email recently where they said they would be raising their prices--with this poor customer service and management they should not! read more

Be ready to wait. Took my 8lb yorkie in for a bath and it took almost 4 hours to get him bathed despite us being the first ones into the building when they opened at 9am. The staff were nice but definitely did not expect the service to take as long as it did. read more

My cat has always had excellent hair cuts from this groomer but her last cut was not as carefully done. As you can see in the pic they clearly shaved too close to her skin. There is another similar spot on her neck as well. We've brought 3 small dogs here a number of times over the past several years. The staff is nice enough, nail trims are fine, and grooming is so-so. Professionalism is poor, and that's why you are reading this. 1-star and the loss of my business due to a staff member leaving their loose dog in the reception area all day. The staff member's dog was unsecured and unleashed, approached my leash reactive dog before we had even entered the salon, and jumped on my wife several times. The dog was still out when I returned for pickup, had urinated in the reception area, jumped on me, and then pushed past me to the front door of the salon. The receptionist told me not to worry, he wouldn't go anywhere -- as the dog tried to push past me into the parking lot, which is directly on Route 1. I don't plan to be put in a position again to keep an unleashed staff dog from running into traffic, so that's a wrap for us at this salon. read more

We've been taking our little 5-pound doggie here for grooming for a couple years now. At this point we just get "the usual" for her, and it comes out consistent and fantastic every time. For the first visit, we spoke with the team about the kind of look we wanted, and after the cut we took a photo that they now have on file as a reference for subsequent cuts. Our dog is a sweetie but can often be timidly nervous around people other than her family--and certainly, having to go through grooming of any kind is not her favorite. And yet she does so well with the Petite Pet team... we've always felt confident that our little lady is being cared for. Also key for us is that appointments run smoothly--we're given a window of time and it's usually right on target. We get a call about 30 minutes before the grooming session is set to be done, which allows us to plan our pickup accordingly. So between a good cut, good timing, and good care of our dog, this place is an easy recommend. read more

I took my Pooshon here for second visit. First visit I thought was a bit pricey but they did a reasonable job so I returned only to discover the name change and the price increase. The first visit I was desperate as we are visiting the area and I was willing to pay a bit more for the convenience. Now they are charging a separate fee for what is normally included when I take him to our regular groomer. Well, this visit was twice what I normally pay ($100) I emphasized to the intake receptionist (who was very nice, btw) to watch out for the nodule on top of head. That did not happen. Then she wanted to charge me a "special handling fee"because my dog tried to bite groomer. My dog was extremely stressed when I picked him up. Well, I would also be aggravated if you cut me while grooming too! In addition, He drank water profusely when I picked him up which leads me to believe they do not have access to water. I do not see anything special about this grooming that it would cost so much more money. Not a happy pet owner with this groomer. read more

My first two visits were outstanding, I believe the person I dealt with was name Cindy, she was so sweet. This last visit was horrible and I don't think I will be back. The first two visits the price was $65, now today I paid $95.00 unacceptable especially with the poor customer service I received. When I arrived I telephoned to let them know I was there with Mister my maltipoo for his shampoo and cut. She stated that my dog did not have his updated rabies I told her he has a 3-year vaccination and that should had been in the system. She not only was beating me down about the issue but kept asking if I had his records on me, now I tell you who carry's pet vaccination records around with them....Not me! She eventually took him and I brought my records back to prove that he has 3-year vaccinations and they should have entered his information the first time correctly. Outside the price and the fact that I traveled from Anne Arundel County for this appointment I realized it's time to move on. To Emily the owner please have your employees enter the correct vaccination information and double check before the pets visit and teach them common curtesy when speaking with a client. read more

I took one of my cats to Grooming By Em and it was fine, BUT she didn't need to be shaved and was just a de-matting/bath, so I thought I'd give them a shot with my other cat who did need a shave down. After bringing her in, we found out she needed a flea bath. She must have picked it up in the last warm months. When I got her back, her nose was completely raw and she was squinting terribly. I'm now on the way to the emergency vet because she won't even open her eyes. When I called to ask them what happened they said "well we use all natural products" but why were her eyes exposed to flea medication for any reason???? I was also told that my cat was "bad" and was charged an extra fee because she scratched the groomer. I've had this cat for a long time and have NEVER had this issue. In fact, quite the opposite - I've been told my cat is great to groom - so obviously something went wrong during the groomer and now I'm facing a hefty vet bill in addition to the $108 I paid to the groomer! I have been a customer of Petite Pet Gallery for around a year now and have always loved the work that they do on my dog! They know exactly the right way to groom him based on his proportions and breed. When I first came in with a puppy, I had no idea how to take creative direction, since I was a first time dog owner. They knew exactly how to groom him and I left there ecstatic (and still do every time I pick him up!) They also make sure to take any comments you may have and would fix the grooming on the spot. I once picked up my pup and saw that his ears were too long, so they quickly fixed it up with no hassle whatsoever. They're very responsive to my concerns and want their customers to leave there feeling happy. I love the results I see from this company and am an avid fan, so I'll be very sad when I have to move away within the next month and have to find a groomer that is on the same level. However, I've noticed that the groomers would sometimes miss my pup's "thumb" nail completely! I usually pay extra for a nail buffer, so this sometimes is disheartening to see. If my dog's nails get too long, he begins to chew at them, which can cause his paws to be irritated. This honestly isn't that big of an issue. Even with this, I love the service provided here! This is just something to note for the future. Besides this, I have never had any issues with Petite Pet Gallery. I would have given this business a 5-star ranking otherwise. The length of my pup's nails do not concern me, but his reaction and the effect it has on his health does (especially when I pay extra for a nail buffer to make sure this doesn't happen!) This place is absolutely amazing! I was so nervous taking my 7 month old puppy in. Groomers I had been to previously told me I had a fear aggressive dog. The groomer I went to wouldn't even groom my dog unless I gave her trazadone to calm her down. I felt confused since my dog is truly the sweetest. Not wanting to medicate my young puppy, I knew I had to find a better option. After looking on the internet, I found Grooming by Em. Javier willingly groomed my puppy without the trazadone and told me that my puppy had no aggression problem at all. Em pointed out a few possible reasons that my puppy would be fear aggressive at the other groomer, which I did not know of before. We tried grooming by Em out for the first time and were pleasantly surprised by their friendliness and good work. Before taking him for his cut, they asked how long I'd like to keep his hair and what spots needed extra attention. Our boy came out looking nice and he didn't seem to have been under a lot of stress or anxiety. He looked proportional and the even if that makes sense. The place itself is nice and inviting with dog treats, toys and grooming products available for purchase. My only gripe is that although he came out looking handsome, he was dropping loose hair like CRAZY! We've been dedicated clients at Grooming By Em (now Petite Pet Gallery) for over 5 years now with our two medium-sized Labradoodles. We always had amazing haircuts on our dogs and recommended many other people go there, as can be evidenced by my previously glowing review. In the last year, though, the quality has gone down signifcantly and I'm not the only one who has noticed. Everyone else I've referred there has said the same thing has been happening with their dogs, too. I've always requested a specific cut, but I have never been unreasonable-- I've admitted when I've slacked in the brushing and they needed to be shaved. That's on me, as their owner, and I don't expect a groomer to clean up my lack of maintenance. Em and her husband are fantastic groomers, but no longer groom there it seems-- the people that groom there now are far from the same quality they were. The quality has been going downhill for about a year now, but the final straw was today. I brought my two dogs in today-- one was matted on her body and I told them to shave her because she was beyond repair, it would be too painful to try to dematt her. Her head was fine, though, which the receptionist and the groomer agreed with when I spoke to them. When I picked her up her body was shaved like I asked, but they also completely scalped her head. It is far from the round head we asked for, is described in her records, and that she's been getting for the past few years. She looks pretty ridiculous. My other dog had longer hair but I had brushed him out almost entirely before leaving the house. He had some matting on the chest I noticed in the car and one big one hidden under his ear flap that I told them could be shaved, but the rest of him was fine. We talked about it before I left the salon and the groomer claimed he wouldn't be able to get the clipper through his coat because it was too thick and would need to shave him-- which, even though I could have personally shown the groomer exactly how you deal with that, I had to get back to work so I agreed to let him be shaved if necessary. It's just hair, it will grow back. When I picked him up, he was shaved too (which is fine, I said that was okay) but his head was also scalped. There's some fringe, but again it's not the cut described in his card (round muzzle and head, shortened ears, keep the visor) or the cut he's been getting for 5 years. I was able to shape their heads to be more round myself with shears when I got home and they'll look okay in a few weeks when their hair starts to grow out, but this isn't a service worth driving 30 minutes each way and paying $230 (including tip) for. When I first found GBE I was excited and thought I could end the search, but my experience has steadily declined since my first visit. The good: my first visit was a pleasant enough experience with good haircuts and we left with Christmas bows. On my second visit, no swag, but they hand dried my dog so I could get her back quickly since she was nursing. I appreciated that extra touch. Im grateful but haven't had that level of service since. My third trip I had moved away from Hyattsville but called early in the week for an appointment and was told to bring my two minipoos on Saturday at 9:30. After 4 hrs I called back to check since I was killing time in the area and was told they hadn't started them yet. I thought I had a 9:30 appointment but ok. I was told the groomer had other big dogs and was running behind. When I picked up my dogs nearly 4 hours after that I thought it would need to resume my search for the optimal groomer. After several months, I went back today with 4 minipoos. I was disappointed that they shaved two puppies ears completely and one tail, but even more upset that the lady at the desk tried to claim we discussed it before the service which we did not. If we had I would not be pointing out that you shaved my dogs ears and tail. I think she said this because the owner was there and was asking her about it. She said the dogs were fine and we discussed a number 4 guard. Tips for the best experience here: Only deal with the owner for the best possible experience. Ensure you sign or initial what you agree to on the client card they use before they service your pet. Otherwise they may claim you agreed to stuff you did not. And I noticed bleeding and redness near one pups eye. Don't know if he got nicked when they shaved him but I do know no one mentioned anything about it. It wasn't like that at drop off. I was on a phone meeting when I let my dog, Dizzy, in through the back door, where he'd been out enjoying the weather. It wasn't until I got back to my seat that I sniffed the air and, a horrible realization taking hold, looked down at Dizzy. My yellow lab was a light shade of brown. All over. And smelled unmistakeably of ass. ("I'm gonna have to call you back.") I remembered that during Yelp Shops Local last season, Em of Grooming By Em was super passionate about raising money for the animal charity we'd partnered with. Not only did I remember her having a page of 5-star reviews, she enthusiastically put her money where her mouth was to show her love of animals. I herded Dizzy onto the porch and called - they could take Dizzy same day, thank the lord. When I picked him up a couple hours later, they told me they'd ended up washing him twice. After washing and drying him the first time, they decided he needed another round (they didn't charge me extra for the extra labor). They definitely got the job done - he came out literally the cleanest, softest, and most de-furred he's been since we adopted him years ago. He's a shedding machine, and I've brushed him for an hour straight and not gotten his coat down to where they got it. Now, over a week later, the results still stand - he smells GOOD (this is a first), and I can still pet him without getting fur on my hand. It's amazing. Oh, AND they diagnosed an ear infection! They said it was just a guess, but they were right on the money! Oh, last thing: when I dropped Dizzy off, he was shaking nervously the way he does when he walks into a vet's office. When I picked him up, he was bouncing around, drinking from the water bowl, licking the receptionist, etc. Totally comfortable and happy. Tells me all I need to know about how he was treated. Emily, the owner, gives my wife and I's cat a trim in the summertime to reduce hairballs and make him more comfortable. I spoke to Emily, and am genuinely impressed with how she handled the criticism and what she tried to do to rectify the situation. I could tell that she could really understand where I was coming from and could relate, because she shared her own experiences about bringing home a pet that wasn't groomed to expectations. You basically just stare and stare at your furry friend and you just keep feeling a little more sad and upset each time! She put all excuses aside and said she would credit me for the experience, and that I shouldn't pay if I wasn't satisfied with my service. She even offered to come visit my cat in our own home to see what she could do. Talk about going above and beyond! She cleared up my misconception about making appointments for felines on Saturdays. She stated that they avoid it specifically because of the high volume of dogs in on that day, so it can be an antagonizing atmosphere for cats. Understood. So I lied. I'll be back again, just because it's truly obvious that Emily really does care that much about not only her reputation, but also how each individual experience is to every client and their pets. read more

Overall great experience! I read the Yelp reviews. Mostly positive. Yay! A $35 voucher for a $50 valued service. Double YAY! The whole grooming process took 2.5 hrs. LiLo is a maltese so he's small. I think I did pretty good in maintaining his coat to avoid mats, but his fur was getting long, so I took him to Grooming by Em. Setting the appointment was easy. Gary was pleasant over the phone as well as in person when I brought LiLo in. He even went over maintenance with the top-knot for LiLo when we were checking out. I don't know who groomed LiLo. S/he did a splendid job minus a couple of uneven sections. Not too serious. Ears cleaned. Fur around paws trimmed. Good smell. Soft soft soft. LiLo came out almost looking like the picture I provided of the result I wanted. I can't wait to see how his coat turns out after a bit of growth. I'd wished the groomer would have come out to greet me personally so that we'll be able to chat a bit about what I wanted. But Gary did quite a good job as the middle man. The place is clean and fully-stocked with nice pet supplies and cookies/treats. I bought a water bottle for LiLo. Maybe one day we'll try the gourmet treats. Thanks a lot, Grooming by Em! I was nervous about taking my shaggy puppy for his first haircut, but was quickly reassured when I saw the way that Em handled him in the waiting area. Patient and gentle, with lots of cuddles and kisses. It was clear that Em loved animals, and that my puppy was in great hands. Em thoroughly explained the grooming process, and told me that it might take as long as 3 hours if he was uncooperative. I expected that my rowdy puppy would make things difficult, so I was surprised when he was finished after only an hour. I was shocked when I actually saw my little guy. The haircut made him look like a whole new dog! He smelled delicious, and was silky soft. Em had done the impossible, she made my puppy even more adorable. I love Grooming by Em! I have taken my puppy there four or five times now, and every time she's had a good experience. Emily and her groomers do a great schnauzer cut, and Penny always looks very distinguished after her grooming. Her very first time, Penny apparently was pretty antsy and nearly snapped at a groomer (this was when she was maybe 12 weeks, so it was her first-ever grooming experience). But the team at Grooming by Em gave me some tips on how to improve her experience, and I worked with her at home extensively. The first couple times I dropped her off, Penny was nervous, but after being treated kindly by the staff she is excited to go in the building and see all the people who love on her. Now, I only get positive reports from Emily and her staff when I come to pick up Penny. I also love all the little extras that you can add on to your grooming. The full grooming (which I think is $50?) includes everything you really need - a bath, a cut, nail clipping, ear cleaning and trimming - but you can also add on "Spaw packages", hair color, aromatherapy, or "pawticures." They were great! They got my matted Pomeranian in really quickly and worked with me to get him done in time for me to work at 4 pm. I had never had my dog's hair cut really short, but since summer was coming and his hair was a mess from him being stolen and kept by people who had no idea how to care for a dog with this kind of hair, we decided on a big chop and it looked great! They also managed to get a bow around his neck which is a miracle because he doesn't let any one come close to his neck and hates wearing things. I'll try to post pictures. read more

Poor customer service and disrespectful. Referred to me by wrong preferred gender pronouns after I repeatedly corrected them. Had scheduled a grooming for elderly 17 year old dog. Confirmed appointment and procedure for COVID drop off. Not one word that vaccine for rabies was out of date (literally just a few weeks). They refused service, were rude, and wasted everyone's time. Very offended by their treatment. read more

This is Review #2 for me, I just realized I hadn't updated my review for my two senior dogs who I brought in just before Christmas. (I'm the one with the Saint Bernard below.) For the reviewer who said she liked that Em likes the most disregarded, unwanted - that's the kind of dog fosterer/rescuer/adopter I am, and I was happy that Em said she was willing to take on my two old boys from the Land of Misfit Toys. I was a little reticent because one of my seniors had skin tags everywhere and the other is super grumpy with canine rage who hates pretty much everyone. But when I went to pick them up, they had done great! My Original Dog Major (cocker spaniel, age 15) had diabetes and was pretty senile, blind and deaf, besides the skin tags, so I was concerned about stressing him out. He came out soft and clean and mellow. With one-eyed Bogart (16 years old, peke-cocker mix) I was concerned about him going ballistic on Em or someone else - he also came out nicely shaved, bathed, soft and clean - and nice! He was the farthest thing from attack mode, even with the other people in the shop! They said both dogs were no trouble at all, and I have no idea if they were lying to me to make me feel better, but it was bliss. We also got ornaments with their fur inside them with a ribbon and their name on the balls. I thought it was a nice touch. For the person who said he liked it but his wife found it creepy, I have just this to say. I liked it from the start, but Major passed on two days ago and I am so very sad, I am especially glad to have this piece of him. read more
