Dr. Shigihara has been my dentist my whole life! We have followed her for over 30 years wherever her office was because she cares so much for her patients. Her staff is very responsive and helpful to scheduling and insurance questions (Thanks Jami!). The office waiting area has water, tea, magazines, and a nice place to chill before the appointment. The Dental Assistants Alicia and Anna are also both so kind and ask for feedback when they're working on your mouth to make sure your okay. I have been seeing Dr. Pat and her staff for a very long time now. She is a fabulous Dentist and the people that work with her are second to none. What a great group!!! I first started going to Dr. Shigihara's office when I moved to Seattle after college. I spent a year living out of state and was very happy that returning to Seattle meant I would once again have a terrific dentist! She's very thorough, informative and the entire team is great! I've been going to Dr. Shigihara for several years. She is such a wonderful person, very professional & her staff is super helpful and friendly! She always takes the time to educate you on what she's doing - to go over different options when I am faced with teeth issues and the pros/cons for each option to help me make an informed decision. Since I moved to the eastside I started going to a dentist voted 'one of the best' in the area by Seattle Magazine. His staff and my hygienist are great, but most cleanings I don't even see the dentist and when I have my exam, it is so brief, he doesn't say much and he seems to be in such a rush. I should start by saying that I don't have a problem with going to the dentist. I have had terrible experiences with some dentists, but I've learned that it doesn't have to be that way. Pat is an great dentist, she is very attentive and thorough. The staff is also well organized and friendly, I love the local community feel. She does a full inspection of your gums, salivary glands, nasal and ear passageways, and teeth on your first visit. She doesn't cut corners (which I've seen other dentists do), on my multiple visits over a month she always explained what was going on in my mouth, what she was going to do and fully answered all of my questions. read more

It is so comforting to find a caring and gentle dentist that is both knowledgeable and honest. Dr Shigihara and her crew fit the criteria and are all very nice and friendly. The office has all the latest dental equipment and even some screens with headsets to watch and listen to the internet while being examined. For kids, it;s also so suitable. They are so careful and gentle that even kids go out of the place loving it and wanting to come back. They were very considerate - when the insurance came back to me with some balance for my full mouth x-rays and my husband's, they wrote it off. I've been a patient for probably over 5 years now and even though she was not a preferred dentist of my last dental plan I happily paid the extra so I didn't have to leave. I left my old dentist because of the hard sell for getting anything that "could" be a problem down the road fixed immediately. Dr Shigihara is attentive and keeps an eye on any problems without trying to nickel and dime you for every expensive procedure out there. Staff are always friendly and professional. My family has been seeing Dr. Shigihara since she began her practice on the Olympic Peninsula. Oddly enough, we have always moved when her practice moved, so here I am 25 years later with the same dentist. Since I can remember, I have enjoyed Dr. Shigihara's humor, knowledge and patience. She went over my x-rays with me and nerded out on me her dental knowledge which I found so fascinating and she explained everything so well. It is a nice office and the people are polite & kind. However, I don't think they will tell you what you need to hear to achieve better health. I think they base their recommendations on what they think your response will be. I was told by one of the assistants years ago, that they were concerned with the bleeding they saw. Dr. Shigihara disregarded what the assistant said and I thought it was weird, because of how she had explained things. I've since changed dentists and was shown on the pictures tardar that was left behind by the assistant Casey when she cleaned my teeth. Maybe its a good office for fearful patients. read more

I was finally convinced by my girlfriend to go to the dentist for the first time in more than 10 years. You could say that I was very much not looking forward to it. The experience I had was almost the opposite of what I had feared. The staff was friendly and non-judgemental about my less than stellar dental hygiene regimen. The work was done as efficiently and painlessly as possible. I enjoyed watching YouTube videos while getting my teeth cleaned and had to worry about laughing, not wincing from pain. Even my nighttime teeth grinding was handled over the next two visits with a nightguard. I would recommend Dr. Pat and her staff to anyone who cares to listen. read more

Dr. Shigihara, DDS practices a high volume business. Patient contact with the doctor is minimal. Assistants inject the needles, Assistants administer the anesthetic. Assistants mix the amalgam, insert the filling, shape the surface, and adjust the bite. During that sequence, the doctor is absent except for the few minutes to do the drilling. Though the doctor herself is personally charming, the front desk staff is distracted between personal telephone calls and business collections. Online reviews influenced me to become a new patient three years ago, and after the first visit, I spoke favorably about the practice to friends and family. Now, I regret saying those things. Since that first visit, everything went downhill. Overall, I was charged much more $$$$$ than their written estimates, and experienced a series of office visits that were frustrating and painful. read more

After going to another dentist for many years, and getting sub-par cleanings for my teeth, I started going to Dr. Shigihara's office once I moved to Seattle. It took two hours to get my teeth back in shape again and a separate appointment to finish the initial exam and fill a cavity. I had my doubts at first because I didn't know if they were trying to take longer to make more money from my insurance. However, I am now certain that they were just being thorough--it took awhile to fix what the last dentist hadn't been attending to. Now, my teeth are in good shape. I just had my 6-month appointment since my initial visit, and it took less than an hour! I should also mention that they have individual TV's for procedures that may take awhile. It's great watching Hulu.com while having your teeth worked on. My husband, who is rather fearful of going to dentists, actually came away from his first experience feeling much more at ease because of the TV (to distract him), and the friendly staff. read more
