Favorite place for a burger on Monday nights. However, the rest of it is very hot or miss. On Saturday night I ordered he chicken satays in peanut sauce meal. It was terrible. The peanut sauce sauce was very watery. it was more like brown water with no flavor. The noodles and veggies were tasteless. I'll still go for the burgers but skip all the rest of the menu. Nice place, good home style meals in the way of pot roast and meatloaf dinners that were very good. Nice prices. For years my family has celebrated special events at Patrick's on Main Street in Sarasota. Tonight was our first experience with the new up-scaled menu. If you are looking for the delicious pot pie or chicken tenders or most of their classics you are not going to find them. We ordered onion rings that left so much grease on the plate I think you could fry another batch. The delicious sauce that used to be served has been replaced with chives in mayonnaise. That is just the beginning. If I have the urge to go to Patrick's 1481 I will make an equivalent donation to the Sarasota Food Bank. I will feel much more satisfied. After all, why change something that isn't broken. The Hamburgers are still OK...but with over 1600 restaurants in Sarasota why not try another. read more

Good, not great. Couldn't get the "voted best burger 31 years in a row" source even though we tried. Can't say I'd rate it best, but it was good. Had to pay an extra charge of $0.50 per burger/fries for honey mustard for the burger and to dip the fries. Dijon was free but honey mustard was extra. Since I can't eat ketchup, I rely on honey mustard for fry sauce and expected it to be free. The waiter helpfully let us know that the 4:00-7:00pm happy hour in the bar extended to restaurant customers from 4:00-6:00pm. We tried the Almond Joy martini which was just okay. Yelp gave us a $5 off coupon when we checked in as it was our first time. A heads-up: a previous post said out door seating had no smoking; people were smoking like chimneys so we opted to sit indoors - highly allergic. Would have preferred no smoking. read more

Great location in downtown Sarasota! Was trying to pick a restaurant and the menu looked intriguing which made me settle on this restaurant. A friend of mine and I went at lunch time and ordered the steak tips with mashed potatoes and a Caesar salad and the cauliflower crusted vegetarian pizza. Waitress was very nice and accommodating. Lindsay L needs to be retrained as a server in my eyes! She's a very very impatient server!! First time at this restaurant-we were very excited to try it! She came over to the table very rushed, telling us if we want burgers to put our order in right away - they were having a burger special (which we didn't know - it was our first time there) so with myself being in the service industry for 25 plus years - I felt she wanted us in and out - her first impression was a total turn off to both myself and my spouse So I asked her about an expresso martini - if she could ask the bartender to use frangelico in place of the vodka - she right away said no - so I suggested asking the bartender - Lindsay came back and said yes the bar can make it but it will be $14 - I said ok - we are on vacation I didn't care what it cost! We both had the chicken parm - which was really good! Truly disappointed with the overcooked burger and 12 french fries on my plate. I was really hoping for a deliciously juicy burger that turned out to be dry and flavorless. Even more insulting was the plate came with exactly 12 french fries. I counted. Why charge me for fries? When my server stopped by, I showed him the fries, and even he was shocked. Went back to kitchen and got me more fries. That was nice; hence my 2 stars. There are no craft beers, just the standard 5 draft beers and a small selection of bottled beers. Monday night is $5 burgers and most of Sarasota knows about it. We arrived at 6pm and were told there was a 40 minute wait. I think we were seated at about 35 minutes and had no trouble in the interim getting to the bar for a drink. The buffalo bites started us off and they were delish, a bit of a kick, but there was dressing available to help with the kick. We both ordered burgers (one with cheese, one plain) and our sides were Cole Slaw and Sweet Potato Fries. The slaw was reported to be good, the fries were so-so. Our waitress was efficient to say the least, no small talk, just move the tables along. I figure that's how they make money when the main course is $5. I ate the whole plate and the service was spectacular. I asked the waitress to bring me room temp water. She made sure to microwave it for me which my mom does every morning for me. She also believed that it was too hot and then mixed it with some cold water for the perfect temperature. The burger is a must, it has been voted the best burger in Sarasota for 33 yrs straight. Love this place. We went for happy hour and enjoyed the appetizers and beverages. They have select appetizers for $6 and beer and beverages for cheap prices. We got out of there with a tab for 3 beers, 2 mixed drinks and 2 appetizers for $24. Now that is a good deal. I enjoyed the mussels which were tasty and fresh. They were served in a bowl with just a little butter and broth. It was served with 2 small pieces of garlic bread which were crunchy but melted in your mouth once dipped in the broth. We also tried the chicken Thai dish and it had a nice flavor but tasted like it was fried in way too much dough then tossed in a Thai flavor sauce. Not so good. I lived in the area for almost 5 years before I tried Patrick's. Just seemed the typical sports bar kind of joint. But working down town it was eventual I would venture in. The place is set up a bit for high turn over. The chairs are all pretty much hard wood, which looks nice and is easy to clean, but no one is gong to linger as their but gets sore. One of those old restaurant tricks, make the chair uncomfortable so the tables clear and you can get a another seating in. The food is reliable good here in that sort of expensive burger sense. When I first came here I would call it the $6 burger joint. Now it is more like the $8 burger joint. The burgers are all on the fancy side and are very tasty. Everything else I've tried here was just so so. Their strength is the burgers and sandwiches. So stick with that. Friends and coworkers have had disappointing experiences with over cooked pasta and the like so I can't recommend that. Service is typically good. Just depends on how well your particular server can handle the rush of the moment. So I've had very good to just ok service depending on the skills at hand. Went there today mid afternoon Saturday. Very few customers. Waiter could care less if we were there or not. Wish the beer was as cold as he was. Oh.. we are out of the House wine, so order the $15 glass instead. Simple order, two burgers... 20, 30, 40 minutes.. no burgers. After 3 requests waiter says the computers are down, kitchen didnt get the order. 15 more minutes.. OH.. the couple who arrived 30 minutes after we did have eaten and are ready to leave. Finally called the manager (hostess???) She says no.. the computers are not down. Waiter is mistaken. She promises to get the burgers ASAP. Well... they were so ASAP we were served RAW meat in a bun. Sometimes, reviewing a place is pointless. This may be one of those times. I've eaten at Patrick's twice since they moved across the street from their original location, and both times, I've waited entirely too long to write my review so that I have forgotten the details. Needless to say, both experiences have easily been 3.5 stars, and I'm rounding up because I love the interior ambiance - cozy and classy - and the service has been superb. This time especially, the server was very kind a gracious and didn't give us a dirty look once in spite of sitting down while waiting 10+ minutes for the last member of our party to show up. We split the spinach dip - not the best I've ever had but certainly enjoyable - and then I think I got the blackened chicken sandwich. I know how unhelpful it is when I don't remember what I got, but I do remember really enjoying it. Not sure what Patrick's was like before they moved - I had heard some horror stories, so I never went. But regardless of whether or not they were true, the new location is worth your time. There aren't too many reasonably priced and good places to eat in downtown Sarasota, but this is one of them. read more

We were not impressed. Atmosphere was fun and lively but the food was terrible. No flavor at all. Zoodle dish with grilled chicken was basically canned diced tomaotes with zucchini noodles and chicken. Very bland. I am gluten free and ordered a gluten free dish and it came with bread on top of my food. Careless. My husband had the chicken francaise and they served the sauce in a to go ramekin on the plate. The green beans were frozen and tasted like water. The ahi tuna app was prob the worst we have ever had. Literally nothing but tuna with some sesame seeds on the outside served with soy sauce, another non gluten free careless mistake, and wasabi. Save your money and go somewhere else. Great place, great food, great location. But I knew for a fact that they had a $5 Monday night burger deal. I checked the website to see if this was still a promotion and the website gave no indication that it had been cancelled. As a matter of fact, it is on their Monday deal menu. So we went and when we received the bill the promo was not active. We were told by the manager that it had been discontinued several months ago and were aware it was still on their website. While apologetic, I do believe this is false advertising and we should have been compensated in some fashion. That's just good business, and shame of them if this promo is still on their website after all these months. I understand we are all suffering, and that goes for businesses and customers alike, which is why we were trying to save a little money and enjoy the evening together. This is a burger joint and if you don't want or do the eating of things that just recently stood on four legs going 'moo' then you may want somewhere else . This was our second restaurant in almost three months and what a letdown . The beer menu is pretty lacking- they seem to have missed the memo on craft beers - specifically local great craft beers. You'll have to settle for a goose island which I did . I skipped breakfast after my wife suggested we check out the great A. Parker's bookstore on main and then have a ' nice big lunch'. The first two places we tried were closed so we came here . Decided to split the 'large' Caesar salad and a blackened seafood platter with two sides . Whoever makes that salad should go back to salad school - first it's not very big. Second the 'greens' were more white than green - not that nice deep, green romaine . No mention or offer of anchovies . Four or five measly croutons - the Publix boxed brand is better - and that's it. Apparently they haven't heard of shaved Parmesan, and the dressing was little and nondescript. The seafood entree? It came out in a tiny side dish with two wee scallops ( we think), two even more wee shrimps and one two inch piece of dried out fish. For sides we got 11 sad fries - she had five I had five and we left behind the one- inch one by it's lonesome . The 'veggie medley 'was a steamed and bland and unseasoned little mini bowl you'd get in a small regional hospital cafeteria . Before we left my wife used the restroom - keep in mind they've been closed a couple months maybe because of the virus pandemic . She came out and said ' no paper towels or anything to wipe your hands with, a mess on the counter and floor..." Bad. After we left I asked if we'd eaten - my stomach was growling and so on our way home we stopped somewhere else and had a great grouper Reuben with proper sized and quantity of fries . My grandparents brought my cousin and I here because it was their favorite spot, but it was just okay for me. The drinks were subpar- to the point where they're strong, but not tasty just taste like cheap liquor. I was told to have the lemon drop martini but I've had better elsewhere, tasted more like dirty water to me. Monday's are $5 burger night but only one burger is $5 and that's a plain Jane burger anything above that will cost ya extra. And in all honesty, I don't think I would pay more than $5 for this burger. There's nothing special about it really... meat tastes plain, it was overcooked and the rolls are just basic sesame seed buns. Nothing above average above it? The burger is thick, that's about it. But to me I would rather have more flavor than meat. The sweet potato fries are good but I wish that they had some type of house sauce that was sweet to dip them in, that always makes it better! The service was a bit slow, and the food took awhile to arrive. I feel like if I'm ever back in town I'll opt for a place with seafood or some more flavorful burgers.
