This was my first time going to a pattern making & bespoke service, and it was a really pleasant experience! My significant other and I needed to have some patterns made for cosplaying at an upcoming convention, and Jenna was extremely helpful and friendly! First, her studio is located in a building with an underground valet parking, from which it was really convenient to get to her location. Her office was really warm and welcoming, with a lot of ambient light and examples of her work. She was accommodating with our appointments and our needs, and was really responsive through text messaging. Second, she gave us a lot of great consultation and encouragement in making our cosplay, and taught us a lot in terms of the things we need to think about when it comes to patterns and construction. She provided us patterns, extra pattern grading paper, and prototypes for the jackets we were making. The prototype sample jacket was actually one of the best fitting items I've ever worn! Overall, we were really happy with the professional services we were provided, in addition to her support, excitement, and enthusiasm for our cosplay! Super Disappointed in this lady, I was excited because she came highly referred and apparently has great reviews. But sadly I guess not everyone's experience will be the same. First off let me tell you that she is very deceiving. She won't answer questions over the phone which pretty much forces you to drive all the way to LA! I drove two Hours to meet with her only for her to tell me that she only speaks with people for free for the first 10 minutes... after that she charges $50 every 30 minutes cause she expects you to know what you want. Which is crazy cause that's the point of her being a pattern maker!!! In addition to that when we spoke on the phone I made it clear that we were designing hoodies and would bring 4 different styles for reference which she agreed to and said that was a good idea. So when we start showing her the hoodies (which over the phone she said are very simple to make) she starts telling us we need 3 different styles because her minimum to order is $500. She then proceeds to say, that it's too complicated and that it's going to be too expensive for us, when we made it clear that money wasn't the issue. She then said I can't do this it's too complicated. But yet she's the one that said hoodies were very easy and her flat rate was $180 so because it was such a small amount she expected us to order 3 once again we said ok. But then SHE decides that it's to expensive for US because each step would have a fee and it was going to get expensive and stands up and walked us straight out of her room and said maybe find someone else. I was so taken back by this and I told her this was very unprofessional of her. I told her I drove two hours for her to do this to us and I was very disappointed How she was behaving. Specially since I went with high expectations because I was referred to her by a friend who is a well know designer so I was excited. I had to call my friend and my friend was so embarrassed and apologized so much and said she would never refer anyone to her again. I would never recommend her and I usually don't do this but she really was just very unprofessional and the way she treated us was just very rude and seemed like she was just not willing to make a pattern for high end street clothing designs and much less for the people bringing it in. read more

This has been the best experience I've had with a pattern maker in Los Angeles. Jenna is very professional and highly knowledgeable in her field. She is patient and generous in sharing information and guiding you through the pattern making process. She also takes her time to make sure she understands your vision and politely makes garment construction suggests based on her experience to help you have the best possible outcome and keep production costs low. While Jenna does decent work and has good attention to detail, her and Ian are very rude and pretentious. They are not able to accept if they have made a mistake on a pattern and get very defensive against us, the designers, and proclaim that it is our design that was incorrect. In my experience, it is the absolute WORST to work with someone who cannot accept their errors. Jenna will listen to you and be so kind to you when you are praising her work but when you criticize or point out a fault, her and Ian become the worst examples of customer service I have ever seen. Be wary of this company, because one day you will becharger $165 to pattern a button down and then subsequently charged $70 to do just a COLLAR. The pricing is so inconsistent and you will begin to feel as though you are being played with. They have very big egos and are not able nor willing to work with customers and correct their patterns. To quote Jenna herself, she says that helping us with our unique design feels like a "waste of time" because she isn't charging us her $75 an hour consulting fee... Which by the way she only mentions AFTER you have spent an hour consulting with her or discussing the measurements of your design. In short, I would NOT recommend Jenna or Ian not because of their work but because of their response to to criticism and their sheer unwillingness to accept their mistakes and correct their patterns. They will never see a dollar from my company nor any of my fellow designer friends and colleagues. read more

Smh. I just wish prejudiced people would be more forthcoming so I don't waste my time. I emailed Jenna about a bustier pattern. She said she could do bustiers, but that I should come in for an appointment so she could see the design and give me an estimate. I fought traffic to get downtown, paid for parking, and walked several blocks down Los Angels St. As soon as I showed her a basic sketch of the silhouette, she tells me she doesn't do bustiers because it's complicated and time consuming. She said they mostly specialize in grading/markers. She apologized for wasting my time, ushered me out the door, and pointed out other pattern making services in the building. I was flummoxed. What kind of business chases away customers to other businesses. Then it hit me. My theory...she wasn't expecting a black person, and when she got one, to her dismay, she decided to get me out of there as quickly as possible. To test my theory, I came back minutes later and let her know I would need grading/marker services for my upcoming fall collection (this is actually true). She and her husband both looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language, and then let me know they were sorry and couldn't help me. (As if minutes ago they didn't tell me they specialize in grading and production markers) Hey Jenna, maybe you should just put a notice on your website about which races you do business with. Jenna is absolutely amazing at what she does, and she also comes with a kind and understanding heart, which in my experience is hard to come by. As a student desperately needing to find a pattern maker to bring my project into fruition, I was turned down again and again by many other studios and companies because I was just making a one off piece. When me and my partner met with Jenna she smiled at us and agreed to take on our project for a very fair price, tears almost came down our faces. She took time out of her busy day to listen to our proposal and gave us excellent suggestions during our first meeting. She communicated with us very well, and got everything done on our agreed deadline. I'm pretty new to the garment industry and didn't have many referrals from anyone, so I was a little nervous working with a pattern maker I randomly found online. But they got really great reviews so I decided to take a chance with them. I'm really happy I did. Jenna and Ian were so welcoming. I was afraid when I first met them that they'd catch on that I was new to this industry and treat me the way a lot of people do, like I was some dumb young girl who knew nothing about what I was getting into. But they were so professional and helpful! I brought in sketches of my designs and fabric and Jenna asked all the right questions. This showed that she knew a lot about the construction of garments and was really good at communicating her interpretation of my designs. I came back a few weeks later and was so excited to see my designs come to life. I had a fit model with me to try on the designs and almost everything fit perfectly right on. I was very impressed! As someone who has made patterns and sewn dresses before, I know it's not easy to get the fit sample right on the first try. Since then I've been going back to them for any new designs I have, grading, and marking, and have no complaints. They're an unbelievable team and have only given me their best work.
