I had some old suits that my sons liked but needed good tailoring to fit them. I knew alterations of this kind are not easy and needed great experience to do properly. Doing research to find a good place, I came across High Society and remembered my father had some great suits made for him there. Made an appointment and went in with my sons. Mr. Lim and Brandon were very welcoming and professional and clearly knew what needed to be done. The store is beautiful as well with a lot of gorgeous pieces on display. Mr. Lim did a bunch of measurements and said they would be ready in a week. We just picked the suits up and they look amazing! So many small details done right completely changes how the suits look. Unfortunately, this was a very disappointing experience. The tailor presents himself as a designer, so I trusted him with several expensive pieces for alterations. Sadly, most of the items were damaged, including very simple tasks such as shortening T-shirts -- which were also done poorly. What made the experience worse was the lack of accountability: no apology, no professionalism, and an overall rude attitude from both the tailor and the staff. The focus seemed purely financial, with no respect for the client or the garments. The team appears inexperienced, lacking both the technical skills and the understanding that tailoring and design are crafts that require taste, care, and respectful communication -- not just tools and prices. I strongly do not recommend bringing valuable pieces here for alterations, and I would not advise learning or training with them either. Design is an art, and customer service is part of that art -- unfortunately, both are missing here. read more

Commissioned a Scorpion Jacket from the movie Drive (2011). Very happy with the results, the silk material is a beautiful shade and the embroidery is phenomenal. David and Nuage were very courteous and professional throughout the entire process. I was impressed by their dedication to get the measurements exactly right. Over email, they asked that I send them a list of measurements. They added that if there's a zip-up jacket I like that fits me well, to take pictures of myself in it front/back/side, then mail them that jacket. I did just that, and picked up my jackets in-person at the store in Los Angeles on a trip that I had planned (they did offer to mail it to me if I'd like it sooner). My friends have seen the jacket, and are now interested in commissioning custom suits of their own for formal events. Highly recommend High Society for custom attire. Another (former) ktown legend bites the dust. Living in LA there were a few tailors in ktown that were known to be amazing. High Society was one of those storied, IYKYK places. I don't typically recommend Goldfinger anymore because it's gone downhill as well (albeit still better than the vast, vast majority of tailors in Los Angeles), but I will say I would 10/10 times send people there rather than here. **Quality** I brought in a few alterations that were not difficult but were for items that were relatively expensive. I paid exorbitant alteration fees (and was initially happy to do so) because I hoped their work as a bespoke tailor would mean higher quality work than your typical seamstress. Unfortunately, the work was not better and, in several cases, worse. Items came back with snags and holes (ruining a $1K jacket in the process). Hems were not straight, etc. Jacket sleeves were shortened but not linings so I had stuff coming out of my cuffs like I was 15th century count living in England. Would not recommend bringing any items you care about. **Service** Front of house is pretty great at making you feel like you're inadequate as soon as they find out you're not there for a bespoke offering. Watching the rebrand of a high-quality tailoring shop from Ktown to a vibey bespoke shop in Midcity was definitely an experience. read more

Hi, I came here for some alterations on a few items: a tuxedo shirt, two tuxedos (jacket and pants), and a separate pair of dress pants. They were honest about one of the jacket's not needing alterations, and in particular, there was a pair of pants that due to color matching was the only option but significantly too large. I was a little worried after the measurement process and being a new customer, but that worry melted away immediately when I came back to pick the alterations up, even before fit checking them. They essentially recut the pants without throwing off the balance of the garment, and saved the day. If you're on a tighter budget this may not be the place as a honest heads up, but they're worth every single penny. Highly recommended. read more

I came here a couple times and altered pants, they did a pretty decent job. I brought in a sports coat that had bulky shoulder pads and didn't fit well. I asked if this jacket could be salvaged or should I just give it away. They insisted that there would be no problem removing the shoulder pads out and making the jacket look great. I went along with their recommendation, spent $50. I come back, and they stated they needed to charge an additional $40 because there was extra work. I put on the jacket and to my surprise, the shoulders are horrific. Jacket does not hug my shoulders at all, can see creases everywhere. I expressed my concerns and the tailor kept saying, "looks good" "looks good". Very disappointed as they knew themselves that they did not do an adequate job, but continued to let me leave with a disgustingly altered jacket. Will post pictures soon. read more

Some notes: - they have access to Italian mill fabrics if you are interested in higher end fabrics like Loro Piana - it was a 3 week turnaround essentially, and the suit is made in-house. - plenty of free parking behind the building! - slightly tricky to work with if you can't speak Korean. But they have in house managers like Jerry who is a great in between person that can translate - mr. Han is great! Very friendly tailor with a great eye for proportions. Since 1968, Mr. Lim has been designing, fitting and creating clothes for the Hollywood elite and I am honored and privileged to have had him make a few bespoke items for me. Let me say, you don't know how a shirt is supposed to feel and fit until you get one made by this man. I got a jacket and trousers altered here and just got around to wearing both pieces. The alteration definitely improved on the silhouettes and proportions of both garments and I am satisfied with the quality of workmanship. It took them about a week to perform the alterations which seems reasonable given that I was a first-time customer who walked in. The price, while not outlandish, was on the high end of the spectrum. My old tailor would have matched the quality of work but at rate 10-15% lower. I will be returning. read more

The owner, David, is not a nice guy. We commissioned him to do a jumpsuit and since he obviously didn't know what he was doing, he asked if we had a jumpsuit that he could use for the pattern. We let him borrow a $1000 jumpsuit that we had but when he showed us the work he did, it was unusable. Poor stitching, threads sticking out and it didn't even follow the cut of the borrowed jumpsuit. Hence, we decided to cut our losses, anticipating that we would have to eat the $400 deposit (didn't give us the receipt by the way and we paid cash - our mistake) and asked for the jumpsuit back - which he refused to do unless we paid for the poorly designed jumpsuit we commissioned. This is called blackmail. Now we are forced to take this jerk to small claims. Also, he never answered my emails nor phone calls. Be forwarded...stay away from this thief! read more

I'm not an off the rack guy at all due to my size. I was recommended to High Society by another friend who's been a long time customer. Their entry level price for a bespoke suit it about $300 less than anyone I found in Vegas. The quality and fit is outstanding. Mr He, the cutter, did a fantastic job for me. Well worth the 265 mile trip to LA for their services. I had purchased one made to measure suit here in Vegas for 500 bucks less than what a bespoke would cost at High Society. The suit was perfect. I have an odd body shape and I thought a made to measure suit would be good enough, but it doesn't compare to the suit that was made from scratch to fit my body. The staff really went above and beyond. I really wanted a specific shade of bluish gray and they had to shop for fabric until I found one that I liked. They'll customize everything (lots of things that I didn't even know could be customized) and make recommendations when you're not sure/overwhelmed with options. I really, really, REALLY wanted to like this place. I had been doing extensive research into getting a bespoke suit done in the LA area and High Society kept coming up as a viable solution. I decided to give them a try by altering two suits that I had that needed to be altered in several ways (taking in the sides, shortening sleeves, adjusting collar on back of neck, etc). I'm a HUGE stickler for detail. It's in my nature to appreciate fine workmanship and to chastise sloppy crafting. I'm a believer that how you do small things is how you do big things-- if you take the time and attention to make sure all the buttons sewn on a jacket are evenly spaced, down to within a millimeter, then you probably are also able to craft full bespoke suits of impeccable quality. This is my measuring stick, and High Society fell short. Also, the people you hire are a reflection of you and your business. You could be the world's greatest tailor, personally, yet if you hire someone that just does "good enough" work, then guess what? You are now also just "good enough." I'm sure Richard Lim is an excellent tailor unto himself, but whoever he has working the alterations in the back has basically alienated me from doing future business with him. Several things did not live up to my expectations. Firstly, the cost for alterations was bordering on the ridiculous side ($200-some-odd dollars for two suits). I gave them a shot here, though, since I was hoping the craftsmanship would justify the cost. It didn't. Secondly, I had to go back THREE SEPARATE TIMES to get all my alterations completed. Granted, the first time I didn't communicate effectively to the tailor (which wasn't Richard Lim, to be fair, it was one of his house tailors), but the next two times was error on the part of the tailor. I even made sure to speak with someone in-house that is fluent in English to make doubly-sure the tailor understood, but apparently that didn't work out. Thirdly, and this one irks me the most: The sleeves on one of my suit jackets is shorter by 1/4" than the other sleeve. Now, you might be saying to yourself, "1/4" only? Stop being such a stickler!" Trust me, it makes a difference when you're showing 1/2" of cuff on one arm and 1/4" of cuff on the other. You end up looking like a lopsided Quasimoto. That shit doesn't fly with me. Had the tailor hit all my tailoring expectations the first time then I wouldn't mind paying the cost for alterations. As it stands I now have to continue shopping around for a tailor that can alter my suits right. read more

Found out about this shop from reddit. Highly regarded as the best tailor in LA from several subreddit threads on men's fashion. Their client list speaks for itself. I went to two tailors prior to coming here, and I'm glad I came here. Not only does Jerry and staff have excellent customer service and friendliness, the tailor Mr. Han showed expertise when he asked me to return my Brooks Brothers suit for a bigger size. All the other tailors I had seen previously didn't recommend that. They would have just cut it right then and there and taken my money. High Society, however, advised me on how to best tailor my suit. When fitting me to the suit, he changed the entire appearance of the suit with just a few needles. It was remarkable. They may be slightly higher priced, but it is absolutely worth it. Best in town! read more

We'd spoken to several tailors around Los Angeles and done a few initial consultations, and both Mr. Lim's turnaround time (just 2-3 weeks) and pricing simply beat them all, hands down. Additionally, after the initial measurements, we only had to go in for one fitting. And the suit itself was designed impeccably. I wouldn't go in as a complete newbie to bespoke tailoring; it is helpful to know what you're looking for in terms of style, fabric, etc. But frankly, I think this is the best bespoke tailoring place you'll find in LA in terms of flexibility, quality and price. I bought my bespoke three piece wedding suit from High Society as well as two white dress shirts after finding off the rack suits didn't fit me the way I liked (6' 3" and broad shoulders). I picked up the suit today and couldn't be happier, it fits perfectly and has just the look I was going for.
