We were in town to bury my father in law, a lifetime Greenville resident. Thinking it would be a nice break, we took our mother in law out to breakfast. We asked for a table outside because she can't hear well, and the cafe was bustling and loud. The staff seated us, but had to move tables around outside. The hostess and a "regular" of the cafe said things like "this is what we do in a tourist economy." "We have to accommodate the tourists." As if we were a bother and they were bending over backward to accommodate us. Because my mother in law was there, and she is emotionally raw right now, I avoided conflict. So I'll say now, what I wanted to say to those snarky, rude employees Thursday: My husband's family has had a plot in the Taylorsville cemetery for longer than those two ladies been alive -- combined. His grandmother had 2 restaurants in Greenville. His mother is a fixture in the community, living through the Dixie fire and coming back to rebuild her life. Now she'll bury her husband there. My sister and brother in law worked in public service in Quincy for decades. We aren't tourists. And even if we were, you were incredibly unwelcoming. You made a sad day worse. Stopped in for lunch and was seated right away but the line started soon after I sat down. The service was prompt and friendly with a pleasant cabin atmosphere. Had a wonderful first visit at this cozy home town coffee shop with an amazing breakfast and lunch menu. We've driven past this cafe for years on our way to Bucks Lake and I was so excited to try it! We both opted for breakfast options since it is served all day, even though it was almost lunchtime and they did not disappoint! I had the first omelette on the menu, which was the spinach mushroom sausage, Swiss omelette with Country potatoes and an English muffin, but they have a lot of choices to fit any taste, as well as several lunch options salads, etc. They also had some homemade coffee cake and pastry options that looked exceptional as well. My husband and I have been going to this cafe for years and years. The food is always great. The atmosphere is great. All of a sudden, the service is TERRIBLE. The restaurant wasn't packed, but it took 15 minutes for the server to come and take our order. The food came pretty quickly, but the server never came back to the table to check on us to see if we wanted anything else, if everything was okay, if we wanted more iced tea, if we needed a box for leftovers, or to bring the check. A lot of the time there were two young server girls and a guy standing behind the counter talking and visiting and laughing. I eventually got up and went to the counter to pay the check. I always leave a hefty tip, but in this case they got nothing. I don't believe in an automatic tip just because you showed up at your job. You should actually do your job. This service seriously makes me think twice about our standing lunch date at this restaurant. There are a few other places in Quincy. I'm sure that Patty or Lexie (owners) don't know about what is going on there lately, but hopefully, they will now. read more

I was in Quincy a couple of times recently and I happen to try Patty's thunder Café. I have to say the breakfast was absolutely excellent. I think we might've even had like a waffle eggs bacon sausage works the service was it was packed, but the service was excellent. It took our order right at the counter as we got it to go this time and we have some coffee and you know we talk to people outside who are nice and mingling. It was a great atmosphere. Couldn't be happier with our stop and lunch. What a cute place. Outside seating near the sidewalk is small, cozy, and shaded by grape vines. Too small for our family of 5 and pooch. Very pooch friendly. The service was wonderful, warm and friendly. I had the chicken salad avocado salad. Really good. Fresh veggies. We also had the mushroom burger, bacon burger, veggie club sandwich, sunset sandwich with a side of tortilla soup. The veggie club was very fresh. My daughter LOVED her mushroom burger and said it was the best ever. The side of grilled potatoes were seasoned to perfection and had a little sweetness. This is the place to come if you're after good food and great atmosphere in Quincy, CA! Finding this little gem was easy. Parking, not so much. But luckily, we found a spot in a lot behind the restaurant. From the moment we ducked under the grapevine covered archway into the open air front patio, we were enchanted with the old world architecture, and the clean, homey decor. Wood stove in the center of the room made me immediately think to six months from now when this room would indeed be warmed by it, a bastion of comfort and familiarity in the deep winter. And walls lined with local nature art really accented the real wood craftsmanship. The help staff were very cheerful and welcoming, and made every effort to keep us well taken care of. The ambiance was perfect, and the service was amazing. Our server came back several times to check on us and made us feel appreciated as customers. As for the meal, I ordered chicken fried steak and eggs. Usually, the portion sizes at many places are way too large. We come to Quincy at least once a year or more. This time we wanted breakfast, and popped in here for the first time. At first, I thought the menu looked expensive, knowing how sometimes the food in small mountain communities is subpar. But after eating, it was a deal and so worth it! The food is homemade quality---in a good way. Like grandma who's an excellent cook made it just for you. I had 1 pancake, 1 egg over medium and a sausage patty. Usually when I eat sausage out, I feel bloaty and yucky afterward. NOT HERE! The sausage looked homemade--that means no crappy bi-products or preservatives. It was delicious, not excessively fatty and hearty. My breakfast may sound small, but I could not eat it all. The pancake was huge and so was the sausage patty. My husband had eggs, potatoes, bacon and a "short" biscuit and gravy order. He loved the gravy, said it was the best and tasted homemade. It was a lot of food again. I also ordered a vanilla latte. Usually latte's are too hot for me to drink, but this one was luke warm, if that. I mentioned it to my waitress, and she was eager to fix it. She offered to remake it, but I did not want to waste it, so we just settled on her nuking it for me. Which I would have been happy about. But a couple of minutes later, the girl who made it came out and handed me another, fresh made one that was hot, and perfect--no charge, though I had half drank the first. The waist staff are attentive; we never ran out of water or coffee. They know the menu, are full of tips and advice, and are friendly, helpful and professional, but personable. We will definitely make it a point to come again for breakfast or try their lunch. But this place is a gem. I appreciate good, honest food, and you will find it here. read more
