Paul Davis Restoration was easy to work with. I used them in some ceiling damage in my condo, from the upstairs neighbor. As a referral from my insurance company, they did the original estimate, inspection for mold, sprayed as a precaution, and completed the work with the repairs/reconstruction. Because I was waiting for all the insurance pieces to line up, the holes were in my ceiling much longer than I expected. But PDR was patient and Amber Yost checked on me every once in a while. Once everything was in place, the work was completed in one day - yay! The crew was efficient and quick, and there was no signs they had been there (i.e. paint splatter, etc.) They covered my home in plastic, made the repairs, and painted my entire ceiling to match. You couldn't even tell that I had previous damage. Looked brand new. I am very thankful for the repairs crew that came in - Gilbert, two workers and Keith. Thank you for the good work. read more

First person to come, Scott Sabo, was very helpful and considerate. He informed me that he would be on military duty and would not be available for a few weeks. In the meantime, calls showed up on my caller ID from a Joshua Curtis. I called him back thinking I was returning a call from an acquaintance. He said he was from Paul Davis. He called a number of times thereafter, but left no messages, ever. Then I got an email, to quote: "Hello Allen, Thomas We value our relationship and service to our customers and we want to improve every day. We ask that you take just a few minutes to give us your sincere opinion about your experience with us. Sorry to hear that you didn't choose to proceed with us to perform your project! Based on your initial experience with us, how likely are you to recommend Paul Davis Restoration to a friend or colleague?" I then called Paul Davis and said I wasn't aware that I had not chosen to proceed with them. Ultimately, we set up an appointment for Friday August 8 at 9:00 AM. They showed up at 8:00 AM. I am still asleep as I have medical problems. They left phone messages saying they were there. When I returned the call shortly before 9:00 AM, I reached a voice mail. Left a message call was returned. They denied appointment was set for 9:00, saying they said between 8:00 and 9:00. I voiced my displeasure with the entire process of dealing with Paul Davis, whereupon I was told they would NOT work with me, as we were not a "good fit". The fault is entirely theirs and I told them I would give them a lousy review, Here it is. Well the skylights have been replaced, roof is now new and entire downstairs painted. Paul Davis took great care of our stuff during the water cleanup and even though we had to pay for window replacement their recommendation made sense in the long run. I had just gotten stationed in California and was trying to sell my house. Was two weeks from closing when I had water damage. Sale obviously fell through. I was 3,000 miles away and these guys jerked me around and cost me thousands of dollars. I signed a contract with them for repair in late July and repairs were finished four months later. NINE SQUARE FEET OF FLOORING was all I needed. Sure, the insurance paid the $1600 bill but I paid four month's worth of mortgage payments ($8k) and four month's worth of rent in California ($10k). I couldn't sell while they dragged their feet. Every other week I had to beg for a status report. Then I had a tenant walk the space and backed out because of what a mess these guys left. $800 to get professional cleaners to remove all the dust and grime they left behind. Now I'm back and trying to replace the cheap engineered hardwood flooring they installed. Come to find out it's $2.50/ sqft that they probably got for cheaper because they're contractors. I can't friggin believe these guys are still in business. Thanks for nothing and way to take advantage of dislocated service members who can't fix their property problems on their own. On 1/10/23, we had extensive water damage that started in our bathroom on the second floor that went through the ceiling on the first floor (which half of it collapsed) and then went in the basement. Our insurance company contacted Paul Davis Restoration in Manassas to start the water mitigation process. On 1/12/23, Hernan Rodriguez, their Lead Mitigation Technician, and his colleague Kenny, arrived at our home that morning. Hernan discussed the mitigation process and they used their tools to check for water damage in the walls and floors. They removed some flooring and carpeting, and placed fans and dehumidifiers on all three levels. Both Hernan and Kenny were very courteous and are true professionals. Hernan is very knowledgeable and dependable, and checked in each day to ensure everything went smoothly. On 1/13/23, the second restoration team arrived (Ricky, Tristan, and Peter) led by Ricky De Alba, Mitigation Technician. They were all very courteous and professional. Ricky is a delight, and very knowledgeable and dependable. They removed some drywall, carpeting, and the bathroom floor, as well as placed plastic to ensure all areas were secure and clean. They also placed additional fans and dehumidifiers where needed. The next day (Saturday) Hernan and Ricky returned to remove the bathroom vanity. On 1/16/23, Hernan, Ricky, and their newest member Anthony (another asset to their team) arrived to ensure everything was dry, removed the fans and dehumidifiers, and also our soiled sofa and loveseat. We are now waiting to meet with their Inspection Team for an estimate to start repair work. I'll try to keep this short. I've worked with this company twice, following a house fire in my residence, and a sewer flooding issue in a rental property we own. They were on a list from our insurance company so we picked them. They did a good job on the cleanup for both projects. But I ended up firing them when they submitted a proposal to do the repair work on our house for numerous reasons. They're extremely difficult to work with, they don't help you understand their process and the language they use is specific to an industry I doubt anyone including me works in so good luck following what they're saying. The estimates they give you will be very beneficial to their bottom line but not to what they could do. When I ran the whole project myself I managed to get us a whole LOT more for the money and I always know what was going on, who was doing the work and when it would be done. I've never been given that from PDR. On the rental unit, because our HOA was involved we thought it would be easier to go with their chobut it was not. The incident happened in early 2023,and a lot of work was done that took 6 months or so. The delays were mostly due to dealing with 4 groups, but they were at fault for some. Loved! I had a "flood" in my house from an overflowing bathtub that went through the upper floor, into the living room on the next level and then down to the basement level. I contacted Liberty Mutual and they put me in touch with Paul Davis who came out immediately. They used a moisture meter to detect where all of the damage was. I thought it was just the ceiling, but they showed me that the water went under my "waterproof" hardwood flooring. Hernan Rodriguez was the primary person I dealt with and he was amazing. He was attentive, very professional, and searched my entire home for water damage. They located the problem, and set up dehumidifiers and fans to begin drying out the problem areas. This included removing the hardwood floors in my living room and cutting into the ceiling and drywall and connecting fan. Hernan came by every day to check the moisture reading and removed some fans based on the results. He was very informative, explaining that it could take up to a week to completely dry out the areas. He removed fans and dehumidifiers as he could. He was careful with my furniture and belongings, covering things with plastic to protect them from dust. After 4 days he got a clean moisture reading so he removed all of their equipment. He then laid a covering for the subflooring and put my furniture back where it belonged so I could at least have a "sort of" normal home while we were fixing the issue. Other reps from Paul Davis came by to take measurements for the replacement floor, the drywall repairs, painting, etc. They were all professional and friendly. Right now we're waiting on Liberty Mutual to approve repairs, then the team will come in and make me whole. I've been very impressed with Paul Davis, especially Hernan and his team and the folks that came out later. read more

The water remediation went quickly and professionally. I would not recommend them for the repairs. I had a day and time for the project to start - called at 10:30am start date when no one showed up - receptionist was clueless - after 2 days I was called with a new start date. The men doing the dry wall were professional and did a good job except that now the ceiling has cracked. The coordinator was mostly unresponsive. Would say he would show up at 8:30 - if he did it was more like 10:30 at best. When it came to the completion of the job - would be told I will get back to you - after 2 weeks if no response I would call and get the same response. This went on for 2 months. In the end I found someone to complete the job on my own. Project drug on for months living with my furniture and belongs in living room and dining room - finally room was wallpapered and furniture back in the room now the ceiling has cracked. Same story - came out - looked at problem and 2 weeks later no response until my insurance company called. read more

Uniquely terrible customer service. My insurance adjuster told me Paul Davis was in their contractor network and I thought contacting them to do some extensive mold remediation and drywall replacement would streamline the process rather than hiring two out-of-network contractors. I called and told Ana I needed mold remediation and dry wall reconstruction and she worked with me to schedule the estimates on a day both teams were available so I only had to take off one afternoon of work. When they came out, I was told the mitigation team -- not the mold remediation team -- was sent and the mold team would have to come back the following week. The project manager, Chris Castellanos, said he would try to get them to come back first thing in the morning or as their last stop of the day so I wouldn't have to waste more leave, but they could only fit me in a week later in the middle of the afternoon. That day, the mold inspector was a no show. I called the office and asked Tiana if he was still coming and she told me Ana (the one who scheduled him) or the inspector would call me right back as Ana was on the other line. An hour later, still no inspector and still no call. I called again and got through to Ana, who said she never heard I called or the inspector didn't show. She said she would try to get to the bottom of it and asked to call me back, but I asked to stay on hold since I never got a call back the time before. After a brief hold, she told me she couldn't reach the inspector, which was unlike him, and he could've had an emergency. She told me she would call me back once she reached him, but days have passed and no one ever called me back. The project manager was also completely unresponsive to email. Their incompetence and unprofessionalism delayed my project by at least two weeks and cost me time off, as well. I highly recommend steering clear of this franchise. read more

We used this company in connection with an insurance claim associated with a bathroom water incident. All in all we were very displeased. They included things on the estimate that they didn't even do (like remove the contents of a room) but said that insurance company software makes them include it. Then they didn't include things that they should have done (like install the actual faucet). Their subs left the biggest mess in my house from not taping up barriers when sanding drywall. They include cleaning in their estimate but definitely did not clean. Dust was everywhere. They left trash from boxes in my main hall. They painted with the wrong paint finish on my walls which tie to other walls in the house and now look off. Overall the quality of the job was what I felt to be below par. Stay away from this Paul Davis franchise! There are several to use in Northern Virginia and this is not the franchise to choose. What our USAA insurance agent claimed would be a six month repair is now on month 11 and Paul Davis has little to no contact with us. We are scheduled to move out of our rental this week and don't even know where we are going because of their lack of communication! From the initial meeting, when we were NOT GIVEN a project timeline (as stated on their website) to the lack of properly documenting the inventory of our personal items and the hands off approach for vendors THEY choose to do textiles and electronics. Additionally, they steer you to other "affiliate" companies for the flooring and cabinetry, which can never give you a straight answer on any pricing and constantly switch out the items picked or forget which items you picked for replacement. There have been many mistakes which leads us to believe that there is a huge lack of project management and pride in the work they complete. If you want little communication, numerous misunderstandings and your home sitting for months without any improvements, this is your company! If you want a project timeline, constant communication and your home completed by professionals find another contractor! read more

In process of having my house renovated, my building contractor (Enhanced Roofing Remolding) did not properly/quickly install my roof (actually failed miserably several times), during the summer rain storms. As a result, the new trusses got soaked where mold colonies starting forming. Needless to say, the contractor did not address the issue raised or ignored the problem... Contacted several mold remediation companies in the N VA area about my concern. Companies reported mold. I ended up selecting Paul Davis primarily from the initial sales/service technician visit from Chad who was extremely informative with his findings and options in approaching the remediation process! He didn't even have any issues in climbing up 13 ft ceiling to inspect the trusses up close. I can't also say enough how diligent and focused the remediation technicians were on the project. They ensured all trusses were HEPA vacuumed and chemically wiped. Now I can have piece of mind with regarding the mold on the trusses! I would highly recommend PDR! I initially considered a few other companies, but I'm so glad we went with Paul Davis as they discovered additional debris/water in the crawl space which they had all the necessary equipment to remove that same day. Irving was particularly helpful and very professional. Went above and beyond with the work done and even gave me some ideas/suggestions for other parts of the basement to protect against water damage. Their estimate was very reasonable and even the change orders were clearly explained and reasonable. My big concern is always a company coming out, finding a new problem, and then charging a ridiculous amount extra for that work. That was not the case with Paul Davis. I want to start by saying I had to give them one star in order to review. Also, I want to say that I found the service people that came out had some of the same frustrations with their own company. The communication within the company and with their clients leaves a lot to be desired. Dealing with them has been a disaster! After a washing machine mishap, mold and then ulimately asbestos tiles were discovered. This required the removal of all the affected room's contents, and for us to evacuate the home while the asbestos abatement process was completed. I didn't feel like they cared about us, the numerous delays caused by their internal miscommunication and ineptness, or that we have been displaced for over a month. A job that was originally scheduled to take 11 days is still ongoing here on the 33rd day!!! Crews have been sent to do work when the previous tasks have not yet been completed. Guys have come out to repair/replace things without the right tools or materials to do the job. A mirror that broke while in their possession magically disappeared until I insisted that it be located. I don't feel like they even tried to turn our disaster around. As someone in the service industry myself, this has been one of the worst experiences I've ever had with a company whose mission is to help individuals recover from stressful events. I would like to say thank you Andrew of Paul Davis for making a true and honest attempt to apologize for the experience we had with the company. We met in person and he listened to all my concerns and assured me, as a company they would be discussing the issues on this job and trying to make sure it doesn't happen again. I'm extremally satisfied with how Paul Davis handled my claim. Paul Davis showed up on site and they gave me a strain free quote. They offered to board up the and even a ride to a hotel. They asked if we have food and water. All this and more was offered to us before we even accept them as a contractor. With a big loss and damage comes a lot of emotions and impatient, but Paul Davis office was very professional and understood our needs. The transition was smooth and the work was done perfectly and it was covered by our insurance warranty. A lot of friends told us to go with a small contractor that way save money, but with a small contractor comes a lot of issues: such as they aren't insured, poor communication, lack of supervision, no warranty on the work that has been done and during a hard time like that you would have to constantly be contacting different small contractor to finish the work on your house and a lot of them don't have the advance equipment that we saw Paul Davis use to inspect our house and make sure there is no damage beyond what the eye can see. The inspectors caught a lot of damage that the insurance company didn't quote in their original quote. Paul Davis handled the claim with the insurance from start to finish all what I had to do is review and sign. In a hard time like that its good to know that you can depend on a company to get everything done for you, the work and the nightmare of dealing with the insurance company. Buyer Beware....this group is not only poorly managed but has a serious issues with being truthful and keeping commitments. I had them respond to a job to which they told me they were 5 minutes away. I was then told they were at wrong house down the road. 3 1/2 hours later they showed up. The inspector didn't seem to know what he was doing, more of a sales man. I asked for a ballpark and it was double everyone else. Beware that they work on commission so dont be surprised at higher price then competitors. Through this I had been communicating with the franchise owner who was less then forthcoming or truthful. I don't appreciate the multiple lies to cover up poor work ethic. If it takes this long to just get an estimate, I'm afraid how long for them to do the actual work. Also, my family was getting tired of looking at the 3'x6' hole in our ceiling. This is for a relatively small job, probably around $1,000 - $1,500 of damage give or take, not including the mitigation. I am a property manager for a large, aging building in Alexandria. It has a few leaks due to age and unit owner neglect. We hate the leaks but love having PDR come to the rescue! They are fast, efficient, professional -- experts in every way. They mobilize quickly -- the last time I called them out here, I was hoping for under a 2 hour turnaround and they were here in 45 minutes (and most of that was the drive from Manassas). They answer every resident's questions as well as mine, which in a high rise means they answer the same one several times a day. They are unfailingly patient and polite which is a challenge as residents who have lost belongings in a leak or a natural disaster can be a little stressed and not always patient or nice. They reassure residents while not promising them anything they cannot personally deliver. In a leak situation they do everything they can to salvage property in units. They dry out what they can and only dispose of flooring and belongings if necessary. I have also used their haz mat service as we had a medical need arise which left blood all around the property both inside and out. They came to assess it quickly and all was gone in just over 24 hours from the initial incident. Other companies I have used in my experience as a property manager just do not compare. Some may be able to be quick but they don't have the consistent customer service that PDR has. read more

Worst company ever. We had water leak that damaged the main floor and flooded the basement. the mitigation part was OK but the repairs dragged on for months. Despite PDR having done a similar repair a few years earlier they insisted on writing the estimate to only re-carpet half the basement. Even after USAA came back and said, yes in the past we replaced all the carpet (continuous carpet) it took almost two months to get PDR to update the estimate and that delayed the work. When it came to the wood floors they couldn't match the stain correctly and again they had done that work a few years ago. The PM was beyond useless. Despite being told I need more than I need night before notification ( I do have a day job) the norm was a call or email at dinner time saying they'd be there at 8 AM the next day. Did the PM ever show up to show the contractors what to do? No, that was my job. Was there borderline fraud, seems like it. We decided not to go back with wall paper in two rooms and were told that would probably be fine since that was lower cost but despite several attempts the estimate was never changed to reflect the lower cost, so USAA paid for remove and replace wall paper that was never done. More blatant the estimate included things they simply never did and it took 11 months to get those removed from the estimate. The leak occurred a year ago and today we finally got the last item correctly done and finished. Shoddy work, zero accountability, when I had an issue I was told to deal with the sub contractor directly, poor communication, no planning or coordination and those were the good points. Once I contacted USAA, shortly thereafter a representative from PaulDavis called me and they were on site in my home within an hour and immediately assessed the damage and began to perform recovery and restoration services. Working with Oz and Charlie was effortless and stress free. They both were highly professional and always "put me first" in all aspects of the recovery and restoration operation. Chris the project leader also was great to work with as he came a few days later to make a final inspection and to explain the next steps. When my sump pump failed I was in a state of disbelief and feeling somewhat helpless and PaulDavis gave me incredible reassurance that they can bring everything back to normal, possibly even better than before the sump pump failure. I have a mixed review due to dealing with several employees of Paul Davis. The person who initially came to my home (at a very stressful moment) was Chris Sandage. He put my mind at ease, and explained everything in detail. He was very thorough and his knowledge and experience made me realize that I was in good hands. However, the employees who came a day later to do the demolition work, could use some more training concerning customer interaction and attention to detail. I interacted with Josh Montgomery and Hernan (I don't recall his last name) but service was great. I really appreciated that they called 20-30 minutes before arriving. Both men were very respectable, explained in detailed the work to be done, what I should expect, and what the next steps would be. I appreciate them wearing those plastic covers on their shoes when walking around my house and cleaning up the after cutting a chunk of drywall from my ceiling. Would never use Paul Davis. Recommended by Insurance company. Project Manager came out once to create the estimate, never saw him again. It was an endless parade of subcontractors to do the jobs. Was given a $ amount *allowance* for flooring, went to subcontractor to pick it up and wound up with a product half the quality of flooring in the home. Also the estimate included a bunch of added costs, and when I told them these errors, nothing was changed on estimate. 3 months later, and project is still not done. This is the story of a company that had a complete fail start to finish with the work we hired them to do at the suggestion of our Insurance company USAA. In July 2015, we had a minor flood in our kitchen that did minimal damage to the tile floor but leaked through to the basement causing some drywall and ceiling damage. We called Paul Davis Restoration at the suggestion of our insurance company. Their "expert" came out to estimate the damage and repairs needed. His estimate seemed to get lost and did not show up at the insurance office until August. We decided that while the kitchen floor as going to need to be completely replaced that we would like to get a different flooring. They insisted that we work with their flooring people (Quality Carpet One) even though we had heard some negative things about the company's high prices, and we did not get a good feeling from the salesman who came to measure our room. We were originally told that there should be no problem with substituting the wood floor for the tile because of labor costs.... then told that in order to have the floor we wanted we would have to come up with an additional $800.00. Then we were told the floor we had to settle for would have to be ordered because no one kept it in stock. ( Other companies in the area had plenty on hand... we checked.) It is now September already..... and NOTHING has been done..... We got a call Sept 13 saying that "unexpectedly" PDR could get a crew out the next day. The first set of workmen showed up - subcontractors - they were really great workers, but came having been told they were supposed to tear up our kitchen, when in fact they were scheduled to do the repair work in the basement so we could have somewhere to PUT all the cabinets etc that had to be removed from the kitchen. One that was cleared up they were great to work with. IN two days they completely gutted, rebuilt and painted the basement area and left it spotless. ( read my review of this group elsewhere on YELP) The second group of contractors showed up - five young guys horsing around. They broke the counter tops in the kitchen playing around while the were removing them -- one of the guys said... " do think she will notice that crack?" not knowing I was standing right behind him. They also destroyed the island in the kitchen. We were told that even though the insurance company would pay to replace the counters, we could not get the material that was already there and would have to change out all the counter tops in a different material. Yet another delay of months. The flooring guys that Carpet One sent over to do the floors did not speak English at all and had our brown velvet sofas on end sliding them around on the floors that the tile and carpet had been taken off of and not covered with plastic etc. They got the living room floor down in a day, then vanished again with the kitchen left undone. Becuase of the way they removed the kitchen tile they could not get the flooring level. Rather than take up the ruined flooring and lay new flooring, they kept trying to hammer and sand it down to a level they could use. They spent 3 more days doing this, and then decided to lay a new thinner flooring over the on that was already there ( which made an even more pronounced step up from the living room level to the kitchen.) They finally got that in, but forgot to finish the shoe molding... that took them 3 more months. Originally we thought we were being generous thinking they could have this work done by November 1. But through lack of communication and miscommunication and just stupidity the project was not completed until January 8. I got no responses from the people running our project, the Coordinator did not return calls in a timely manner and did not respond to emails until it was a day or two later. when I finally started posting complaints to the Facebook page of the parent company, I got a call from the owner of the franchise apologizing, but not really making anything any better or speeding up the project... On top of this -- the Insurance company pays Paul Davis Restoration up front BEFORE they ever start any of the work, so there is no incentive for them to do the work well or in a timely manner. I would NEVER recommend Paul Davis for ANY kind of contracting work! read more

BLUF: This would be 1 star rating with the original project manager. After getting a new project manager (Chris Franklin) on board, he took over and was super responsive by phone/text/email. Satisfied with the work and the crew, we had a few minor issues and Chris responded immediately to solve them. At the higher level of the company, there seems to be a lack of coordination (for example, we lost a month as the floor folks were calling---we were not told that was plan...essentially holding everything up). Again very appreciative of Chris and the crew he brought to restore our kitchen from water damage. read more

Clean, efficient, stayed on schedule! I had my floors redone, hall closet repaired after my AC leaked. Paul Davis also moved everything out of my house and replaced it all. GREAT experience. Will absolutely work with them again! read more

Had workers in my apartment today to fix baseboard and do some painting. In the past when people have been in to fix it things I've let them use my bathroom without issue when they've asked. Everyone has to go so it's understandable; what isn't understandable is why they thought it was okay to treat it like a bar bathroom. First of all, they did not ask, which I consider a common courtesy. Second of all, I go to use my bathroom in the middle of the job to find they left the toilet seat up. What put the kibosh on my wonderful experience with the workers is after wanting to use my bathroom after they left, I discovered I was left with an unflushed toilet. I spoke with a supervisor who did not see even the least bit contrite over the actions of his workers. I will certainly never use or recommend this business again. read more

This was one of the most professional organizations I have dealt with in 10 years of contractors. PDR was assigned to me through my insurance company to restore some water damage on 2 floors. My Project Manager was Bob Willis. They gave an estimate, laid out a schedule, set expectations, and met every task assigned. The workmanship was fantastic and the workers were extremely clean. They were working in the children's bedroom and made great care not to disturb anything and to keep everything spotless. Can't say enough about this company and would highly recommend them to anyone. read more
