The dental hygienist Adam was not. He did not stop drilling when I told him he was hurting me and he ended the appointment by telling me I had "poor dental hygiene". Ouch on both fronts. Pre-cleaning I had some insurance struggles and the receptionist was very helpful and pleasant. The waiting room is small but clean. The cleaning itself was pretty uncomfortable. I kept getting sprayed in the face. Adam did wipe my face with a napkin at some point but I was damp for most of the cleaning. They provided safety glasses to protect my eyes from the spray but those were dirty from a previous patient. The X-ray was difficult because I have a small mouth but the tech was sweet and did her best. I was offered the option of having a doctor do my cleaning next time but honestly I will probably cancel my follow-up and find a new dentist. I would not recommend Boston Smiles to a friend.

His office is difficult to deal with administratively (at best). Technologically, they're stuck in the 1980's, both in dental equipment and office equipment. His hours are limited, even more so in the summer. And I always walk away from a session with the dental hygienist feeling like my mouth has gone five rounds with Mike Tyson, and with the same condescending, rote lecture about flossing more, every. single. time. When I left I asked for my dental records to show to my new dentist. They emailed them three days later, which was fine, except I asked for them to post my x-rays to me as well and it's been five weeks of me emailing every week and *not once* have they bothered to even respond, let alone post the x-rays. I paid for those x-rays. But no f*cks have been given, as far as I can tell. Probably for the best. My new dentist has uncovered multiple cavities that Dr. Depremio's office completely overlooked, as well as replaced my one silver filling, which was roughly three decades old and should apparently have been replaced after the first decade. Something pretty damn obvious to a competent and engaged dentist - you would think.

Because of my earlier comment was deleted because there wasn't enough details. I used to like this dentist a few years ago, but my last experience completely changed my opinion. I originally went in for a cleaning, and they told me I had a few teeth that needed work. The plan we discussed was to fix them slowly over time based on what my insurance would cover, which I agreed to and thought was reasonable. The problem started on the day of my appointment. I had a family emergency my mother needed to go to the hospital. So I asked if I could reschedule. Instead of understanding the situation, they told me it would be around a $300 cancellation fee. Because of that, I felt forced to leave my mother and still go to the appointment. When I arrived, things got worse. They suddenly presented me with an estimate of about $2,000, which was completely different from what we had discussed before. When I questioned this, they became defensive and started threatening me again with their cancellation policy instead of explaining things clearly. The situation escalated when the owner came out and spoke to me in a very disrespectful way. She was mimicking me and not acting professionally at all. This was especially disappointing because it was during Ramadan, and as someone who shares the same religion , I expected at least some level of respect and understanding. Overall, this was a very unprofessional and stressful experience. What used to be a place I trusted is no longer somewhere I would recommend.

However, upon my second annual cleaning I came to a surprise $60 charge when my first visit was completely covered by my insurance. The owner later informed me that the ADA is in a lawsuit with my insurance provider. She said this has been posted on "Several social media fronts". As to why I should rely on dental assoc. social media pages for my insurance benefits I do not know. I believe a well functioning dental office would clarify or confirm these sort of changes and developments on their client's insurance plans prior to rendering services. Additionally, there was a $35 PPE fee that was not communicated on their website, over the phone, or prior to my arrival. This has been one of the worst experiences I have ever had a dental office. I highly recommend you go elsewhere.

I have really high standards for my dental care, and I was worried about finding a new dentist when I moved to the area. But Dr. Jean-Mary has been amazing. She is very thorough and performs cleanings herself. Whenever I have had issues with insurance, her office has been quick to follow up and make sure that my claims get processed. Asked me to pay a $100+ bill on the way out but was told on previous visit (by Lilly) there was no additional charge. I have since received a non-itemized bill in the mail & need to clarify. Also, what's with the v. short chairs in the waiting area no arms. It woud be impossible for me and many adults to rise from them so I have to stand & wait when I get there. They have far too many interns, and sometimes they let the interns practice on patients' teeth. One of the interns filed too much off the surface of my two front teeth, leaving them flat and damaged. I complained to the clinic and to my doctor, Anya, but she dismissed my concerns. Here are additional issues I experienced with AP Dental in East Boston: 1. During my Invisalign treatment, they initially gave me a few sets of Invisalign trays. You're supposed to change trays every 1 to 2 weeks. After about 3-4 months, they told me my Invisalign treatment was complete. However, my teeth were still not aligned. I had to push them to continue because I knew my teeth weren't properly aligned. I had braces about 10 years ago, so I am very familiar with the correct position of my teeth. This clearly shows that they don't know what they're doing. 2. During my Invisalign consultation at AP Dental, the front desk staff informed me that the treatment came with a free teeth-whitening package valued at over $300. However, at the end of my treatment, I was given only three small whitening tubes, which cost about $15 each online and are also sold at AP Dental for the same price. This was clearly a case of false advertising. Overall, I would not recommend getting Invisalign at this location. Achieving good, healthy teeth is a serious matter, especially when it involves procedures like filing teeth to align them properly. AP Dental specializes in dental hygiene and clearly lacks experience with Invisalign. It seems like easy money for them, but for patients, the results are what truly matter. If I could go back in time, I would pay a little more to get my Invisalign treatment at an orthodontic office rather than a general dental hygiene office. One small mistake can permanently damage your teeth.
