Anybody reading this review should know that in these days of microwave dentistry...think Gentle Dental... finding a dentist, who is thoughtful, other centered, and technologically savvy is rare. The team in this practice--From the front desk staff to the dental associates to the hygienist, and of course, to the dentists themselves-- have proven themselves to be among the top in the city, and I would argue in the state. The only pain you'll probably experience is finding parking, but with several parking garages around, the Orange line down the block, and a coffee shop nearby, you can't go wrong. read more

BEWARE! I went to this dental office because of the good reviews it had, but now I question if those reviews are even real because of the TRAUMATIC experience I went through. I was assigned to the female dentist, Crista. I decided to do Invisalign because my bottom front teeth were a bit shifted, but my top teeth were perfect. I truly had a beautiful smile and never worried about fixing the bottom teeth because it wasn't much of a big deal. But what turned out to be an easy job turned out to be my worst nightmare. This dentist, if you can call her that, not only didn't fix my bottom teeth but also screwed up my top teeth. She spent most of the treatment on my top teeth to the point that she messed them up and never worked on the bottom teeth that was the initial problem. She screwed up my top teeth to the point that even bones grew outside of my gums. I went from having a perfect front top teeth to messed up top teeth. I told her before she started the treatment that I would not want to change my top teeth, and she assured me that wouldn't happen. Not only did I go through the incompetence of this dentist, but her assistant, who is very rude, uneducated, and bitter, bruised my lips twice while getting impressions on my teeth and didn't even apologize for it. This woman is so SICK of her own life that anything that comes her way, she wants to hurt. I got to a point where I was afraid every time she was assigned to do something on my teeth. I ended up going to an orthodontist because this dentist messed up my teeth so bad that even the orthodontist noticed the bad job that was done! To make things even worse, I was only rebated less than what I had paid to this dentist despite the messed up job she did that even she recognized but only rebated less than what I paid. I had to pay for the whole treatment at my orthodontist due to the amount of work they had to do on my teeth, not only for the bottom teeth that were the initial problem but also now I had to pay for the top teeth that are messed up. This dentist office only has two dentists, a male and a female dentist who happen to be husband and wife. I cannot speak for the husband since I never once interacted with him, even though you would think that if there's something wrong, the other would come and check, but no. I heard lots of rumors, so especially ladies BEWARE if you fall into the hands of this female dentist, you might end up looking worst and having to pay a big price for it just like I did. I guess it was not enough to mess up my teeth; I asked her to send over my Invisalign records to my orthodontist as per their requests, but she did more than that and tried to make me look like I was the problem. She comes from a family of dentists and knows all the tricks to cover up her mistakes but thankfully, my orthodontist saw through her BS right away. Very used car salesman vibes here. I just moved from Boston to Philly and got a new dentist. I had been spending so much money with Devonshire Dental with "recommended" deep cleanings by their dental assistants that cost an arm and a leg. It's been 2 years since my last deep cleaning and I went in for a consult today and my Philly dentist told me I got scammed.. deep cleanings should only be used for gum disease patients. While my gums aren't perfect, they are far from that level. For context I have never had a cavity/filling etc. Devonshire tries to talk you into spending money on advanced procedures that are not necessary. The people are nice enough but it's too salesy and I can't trust them. Find a more trusted advisor for your dentist. read more

I'm updating my review, as this dental practice is under new ownership. The new doctors and staff should not suffer from a poor review for prior ownership. I stand by my review of the previous owner, Dr. Angel. I feel she should be investigated for performing unnecessary dental work - but she doesn't own Devonshire Dental any longer. While I have not utilized the practice, I have conversed with the new owner and he seems very professional and I wish him well. read more

While I'm a new-ish client of this office I can't say enough about Lisa at the front desk. Unfortunately so far my contact with them has been in emergency situations, but each time Lisa has gone above and beyond to help me, and make sure I'm okay. She is truly wonderful at her job, a joy to speak to, and an asset to this office. All the other staff has been wonderful as well! Already have my regular care transferred over next year. Devonshire Dental is great! They helped me trust dentists again after a really bad experience a few years ago at another practice. The location is very convenient, I can head there before work, during my lunch break or after work. I've been having issues with teeth sensitivity and jaw pain for years. Dr. Rizkallah recommended that I try out a mouth guard. It has changed my life! My teeth no longer hurt while drinking cold bervages and I haven't had a headache from grinding my teeth since I started using it. read more

Absolutely love this practice! So much in fact, that I count down the days until my next visit! It is right across the street from where I work; I can actually SEE the office right from my own office cube in the One Federal Street building, which was part of what inspired me to register as a permanent patient. As for my experiences here, I had cleanings with Jen (who I do not believe works here anymore) and Juna, both of whom are awesome. Kathy is also great, as she assisted Dr. Rizkallah with a procedure of 4 fillings I had to have done. Speaking of which, Dr. Rizkallah was able to make this experience incredibly comfortable for me, and took her time with the drilling, and never rushing it. However, I think it may have been even more comfortable had she used a rubber dam on me, but still, she is clearly focused on the patient and truly cares a lot about their comfort during even lengthy procedures. And then there's Dr. Levy, who is also great. Because of my evident sensitivity, he prescribed me a special toothpaste for such a condition, and I have found it to be very effective. He also likes to ask me advice on fish tanks ever since I told him about my 60-gallon freshwater! I honestly don't understand how this practice has gotten so many negative reviews! I can easily guess that they were done by people who are not that great at taking care of their teeth, and who get mad at having to have dental procedures done, and not wanting to accept fault for it. Grow up! All in all, this is the type of practice that has made me really LOVE going to the dentist! I am not exaggerating or just trying to be nice; I really mean that 100%! As long as I live in this area, Devonshire Dental will always be my place, and I wouldn't have it any other way. read more

Tuesday 7/30 was my first visit to Devonshire Dental and I couldn't have been more pleased with the care and service I received. It was recommended by a friend and I found it to be a clean, modern facility with a friendly staff and all the modern conveniences. As with most people, going to the Dentist can create some anxiety, but thanks to Dr. Levy taking the time to explain my options and procedure I was really at ease. He answered every question and laid out a plan for me giving me options in great detail which I appreciated. The cleaning is great. But I have to say the doctors are too focused on profits, not so much focus on the patients. They recommend procedures that are unnecessary if you ask other dentists. I was told that my insurance would cover the checkup, but the 5min check up was priced way beyond what a decent PPO insurance covers. I tried to get them to change their bill in line with industry average, but they refused. It failed to explain the cost BEFORE the service, and did not itemize the charge in the bill. read more

I was a patient here for about a year and just decided to switch dentists. My main reason for switching is that I realized I no longer trusted this place, as I felt like they were always trying to "up sell" me on something or claim with urgency that a million things needed to be done to my teeth. It's not a good feeling to have to dissect everything a doctor is telling you and try to figure out if what they are recommending is necessary for my dental health or just a ploy to line their pockets. I felt like every time I came in, I was told that I had a cavity or needed a crown, or was pressured into considering invisalign. Don't get me wrong, I want healthy teeth and am willing to do what I need to get them, but this place was overkill. No one likes going to the dentist, but I truly dreaded it because I knew each trip would involve significant expense and pressure to schedule more appointments. Everything was presented as a doomsday scenario if I didn't immediately take care of it (and consequently fork over a ton of $), which I thought was a bit much considering I take great care of my teeth and they are in pretty good shape. The cost of care here is also astronomically expensive. I spent about $3,000 total here in the course of about 8 months on "deep" cleanings, two fillings and a crown. Another issue was that I felt Dr. Angel was extremely condescending toward her staff,and sometimes toward me when explaining the "necessary" treatment, which made me uncomfortable. I actually think the dentists/hygenists are great here. HOWEVER. I feel like everytime i go, that I'm getting sold a brand new car i dont need. Do i really need to fill the two teeth that don't have cavities that could potentially have cavities like the rest of my teeth? I don't get it. Why would I get fillings for teeth that don't have cavities. I guess in their "professional opinion" I should have gotten them. I think I'm going to get my cleaning elsewhere. I'd rather feel like my dentist cares about my teeth and my wallet rather than his own. read more

I came here as a new patient and had an excellent experience! The hygienist explained everything she was doing in detail and had great suggestions for me, even including an app to make me drink more water throughout the day. The focus was not only on my mouth but my overall health. Dr Angle was very nice and gentle throughout the entire exam. I would highly recommend anyone visit this office! read more

OK I think They do excellent work here but they are expensive and I feel like they are trying to rob me every time I come in here. If it's not "oh you have a cavity", it's "have you considered invisialign" the last 2 years I needed a a crown/root canal done - so i had to do that in the span of 2 years because of what insurance covers. FINE - i still end up spending over a grand out of pocket each time. For one, I noticed - that is the first thing I did this year which led my insurance to MAX out, my crown. They permanently cemented my crown in than 2 weeks later, they said that I needed a root canal underneath it and if during the procedure the crown breaks, I would be responsible for the cost of replacing it. I obviously flipped out on them. How can you not know that I needed a root canal before permanently cementing my crown? And of course the doctors there tried to get themselves out of it saying that sometimes you can't tell, but c'mon now, 2 weeks? Dr. Angel assured me that if that does happen I would not be responsible for the cost - which made me feel better and go through with the procedure and continue seeing them. Secondly which pushed me to the edge of leaving, normal people get cleanings 2 times a year. They told me I needed to come in 4 times a year. I did for one year. My gums are in great condition now - so i told them I would do 3 but 4 was a bit excessive. I had a regular cleaning done - and I noticed they billed me for Periodontic Sugery, which to my knowledge is "deep cleaning". I had a deep cleaning done when I first went to this office, it requires them to do it in sections and they apply novacaine. So I know the difference between a regular cleaning and a deep cleaning. They set me up for another cleaning in less than 6 months, so insurance told me I maxed out and they won't cover. They only cover 2 every 6 months. So basically I am paying insurance and it's covering nothing. They couldn't even give me a reason to why I am paying for "Periodontic Surgery" every time I come in for a cleaning. I am finishing off my year here and seriously considering looking elsewhere especially since my insurance can't cover anything here. I just had my cleaning done in May - and they wanted me to come back in September, which is less than 6 months. When I saw my last bill and what they billed me for, I refuse to come back until 6 months later to see what my insurance will even cover. Check your statements and get a second opinion. read more

They are good and they are pricey. One day, when I went in for an appointment with Dr. Angel, I was directed to a new practitioner in the office, WITHOUT being consulted. He drilled out the cavity the appt. had been made for. Then filled it with a temporary filling, directed me to pay for that appt. ($400) and to schedule one for the next day (another $400). I found another dentist, one who had gone to dental school with Dr. Angel, in fact. One day, after doing the work scheduled, he said, Let's replace that temporary back there. He charged me nothing for it. Dr. Angel has all the latest gadgets, is probably a good cosmetic dentist, too. But that last appointment was a bit much. And maybe too much about the money. She also wanted to know how I got my daughter to go to Wellesley College. What I had told my daughter was that she could go anywhere she wanted. She just needed to get accepted. After reading some of the reviews here with technical dental language, it seems to me that someone has a personal problem with this practice which is a misleading shame because this is a professional office of the highest quality. I live in NY but I visit Boston often and no one else comes near my mouth with tools. The office is nice. The staff is always attentive, courteous and prompt. The dentists are skilled and the billing is fair. Devonshire Dental is a painless experience. That's as good as a dental visit gets! read more

Dr. Angel told me I need to be on prescription toothpaste, I had to have a crown replaced, a new crown and had several cavities. On top of that they made me get 3 cleanings a year. I decided to go to a dentist near my house for a second opinion. I have no cavities that need to be filled, do not need to replace a crown and do not need a crown on another tooth. Dr. Angel was insistent and acting as though all this work was urgent. She lied and you should run the other way! Do not go to Devonshire Dental or Dr. Angel - EVER! read more

Dr. Angel has been my dentist for about 10 years now, and she's always done fantastic work. She replaced a broken crown that had been done by another dentist (actually it was the 3rd crown on that same tooth, all done by different dentists over a period of 30 years). She prepared my tooth, took impressions, and then she followed up with the lab to determine why the porcelain on the crown kept fracturing. She discovered that the the porcelain needed to be thicker, so she modified the tooth and redid the impressions. The point is that she was the first dentist to identify the root cause of the problem. That was a few years ago and the crown is still perfect. read more

This is easily the worst dentist office I've ever been to. Positives: - The location is convenient since its downtown and you can make an appointment during your lunch hour if you work nearby. - The receptionist was very kind, by far the nicest thing about this office. Negatives: - The dental hygienist I saw refuses to clean your mouth unless you has a negligible to non-existent amount of tarter. If you actually require a substantive cleaning, she makes you leave, and make another appointment a week or so later (if they have room) when your teeth are cleaner. She did clean my mouth when I was there (because I barely had the time to go in for this appointment and I said I would not reschedule), but she complained the whole time about how much work she had to do - and not in a constructive way, but in a whiny kind of manner, like she was upset she actually had to work. The thing is, I go to the dentist every 6 months, my teeth are in great condition, I brush/floss regularly, and I've never been told that my tarter was a problem. I realized that this was a chronic problem with their office when a friend of mine with great teeth went in there and was told the same thing!! I have never seen such an unpleasant and lazy staff in a dentist office. Oh, and they charged a copayment for both visits for my friend - the whole thing sounds incredibly sketchy to me. -- My dentist was Althea Angel, and she was incredibly condescending. For my particular treatment, there was a $50 option and a ~$700, both of which would render similar results. When I said I wanted the $50 one, she lectured me on how I was "no longer a student" (I had recently finished a professional school at the time) and how I should get used to spending money, etc. (as if any of this was her business). Simple ridiculous. There are much better dentists in that area to waste your time here. read more

We started going to Devonshire about five years ago when my son was headed off to college. He had been told that he had several cavities by another dentist. I called Devonshire that it was a bit of a rush and Dr. Angle called me back that night. Since she had no openings she offered to come in on her day off and see if she could get him ready to head off to school. It took four hours but we were all thrilled with the result. My husband and I both transferred to her and cannot say enough about her caring approach. We work downtown so parking is not an issue. If you are coming in from the suburbs you should check on what they recommend. read more
