    the interior of a diner
    Matt A.

We drove down to Verdun and visited a classic casse-croûte established in 1958. Impeccable fries with the slightest crunch to them. A classic sauce that doesn't try too hard to be special and reinvent poutine. Cheese at the perfect temperature before being added so it doesn't melt but also isn't cold... This Poutine is pure. Flawless. The Hot dogs were the ideal size in our opinion, big enough for 2 to be filling and somehow tastes fresher than hotdogs usually do; we're not sure if that's due to the bread or the sausage itself. We loved the food but what's really special and unique about @paulpatates is their homemade spruce beer! A recipe from 1898 - We didn't know spruce beer could taste that good. We were previously used to the run-of-the-mill grocery store soda type and we don't even know where to start describing how much better this is. You'll just have to go try for yourself!

Does the perfect poutine exist? What gives an ordinary person the right to make such a bold claim. In a city full of the next best poutine, you will find Paul Patates tucked away in Pointe St-Charles. This is a decades-old establishment that has been here since 1958! This spot is so unapologetically quebecois and is nostalgic of simpler times. Their blue-yellow tile really drives home the vintage diner aesthetic. Let me tell you, they have got their poutine down to a science. Their fries are hand cut and not too thin or thick. They are perfectly crisp on the outside and soft-melt in your mouth goodness on the inside. The gravy is deep and flavorful and perfectly complements the dish. The cheese is perfectly squeaky and not overly melted upon serving. It's rare to be blown away by a poutine these days, but this is truly exceptional! If you consider yourself a poutine aficionado, go give their poutine a try!

Normally I get take out but today I chose to eat inside. A M B I A N C E This cute little diner is the perfect place to grab a poutine or hot dog! It's decor of blue and yellow tiles brings you back to a simpler time. You can grab a table or sit up on bar stools against the kitchen. If you sit down at a table the waitress will come to you. This is where they filmed and hung out in the show Taxi 0-22. Taxi 0-22 is a popular Canadian television comedy series, which airs on TVA, a Quebec-based French language network in Canada. C L E A N L I N E S S This place looks good! It's definitely dated, being open since 1958 but it does look clean for a snug diner in PSC! O V E R A L L Q U A L I T Y They have their own Spruce Beer (Bière d'Épinette Maison) that you should definitely give a try! I normally get the regular BBQ poutine ($7.54) and it's great! They also have hot dogs, burgers, pogos, fries, and sandwiches. C O S T They do not accept credit cards! So keep that in mind when you're on your way! Prices are reasonable and portions are big! W A I T T I M E S From ordering to food it is usually less than 5 minutes. So a perfect place for a quick bite before exploring PSC. P A R K I N G Free street parking, just be sure to check the signs because certain days you're not allowed to park during lunch hours. L O C A T I O N On the corner of Charlevoix (pretty busy street) and de Coleraine (a one way street). There is a bus stop outside and Metro less than a 6 minute walk away. H E L P F U L S T A F F Literally everyone here is so nice. And they're all bilingual, so whether you're francophone or anglophone you'll fit in great! Sit by the kitchen if you want to have a little conversation with the waitress/cooks. It's a lovely little place.

I had poutine for the first time during my trip and I am happy to say that I'm glad it was here at Paul Patates! Got myself a grilled cheese and bacon sandwich, my partner got a burger, and we both shared the poutine. He loved the poutine too! You really get a huge portion for a great price! Highly recommend trying it out!

In a world of over-polished poutine chains the old school, casse croute family holdouts own my soul. Keep your crazy hours, Paul Patate, just also keep your perfect fries, your best in the land homemade biere d'epinette, your funny friendly quick on the draw staff, and all the proud history of your time in Pointe St Charles papering the walls. Personally, the poutine gravy here isn't my absolute favourite, but maybe it's made to balance perfectly with the white vinegar in squeeze bottles on every table. Because get that all over a Paul Patates poutine then try to tell me you are not in pure poutine heaven.

Solid "petit patate" In Saint Charles. Accepts debit. Has AC. Stopped in for lunch on a weekday. Pretty crowded with locals, but not so much so that there was a wait. Zero tourists. Fast service, was in and out easily in under an hour We got Poutine and boiled hot dogs, but many around us had ordered sandwiches rich with mayo and piled high with chicken and good classic white bread and they looked GREAT. Frankly, for all the above, I would happily rank this casse croûte far above many of the crowded touristy plateau places.

    Homemade pine beer. Must try.

Super place. Loved the 1950s diner feel. The poutine was old fashioned - simple. Tasty curds and fresh fries. Also enjoyed their homemade pine beer. A great stop after hiring Bixi bike and pedaling along Lachine Canal. Their is a Bixi station right around the corner. Well worth the effort

    Small diner. This is it.

From the unique table designs to the imagery on the walls, reminded me of Friendly's back home. I ordered a french onion soup which was probably not the best move as we were trying to have a quick lunch, oops. I shared it and we used the excess broth for dunking our sandwich's in. Very tasty soup. Came out hot but cooled quick. Club sandwich was enjoyable. Would have been better probably on the bagel as the sandwich bread didn't quite hold well together with all the fixings in it. Overall a place I would recommend. We walked around a lot in this area and noticed that Dunn's looked old school and had smoked meat so we gave it a try. The wood and leather booths gave this 99 year old establishment an old school vibe. We were seated pretty quickly in a small booth. Hockey was on TV so that's a good sign. I was not super hungry so I ordered the smoked meat on a bagel, Andrew got the sandwich. The food came out fast but not overly fast. My bagel sandwich was tasty. I liked the thin cut of meat. The fries were as soft as mashed potatoes. They were warm but not close to crispy. Andrew liked his sandwich as well. The bathroom was quite the experience, it was at the bottom of a long, steep staircase in the basement. It worked, lighting was ok, but it was a climb out of there! Come here for a simple quick bite and stick to the sandwich. It's good!
