It's not the best poutine you can get your hands on in Montreal but the employees are always happy to serve you no matter who you are! We recently moved to Rosemont area recently and took a break from unpacking, so naturally we walked around the neighborhood to get something to eat, and this place is just around the corner... They have signature fries called ecrasé in their poutine, which consists of unpeeled wedges which are boiled then crushed then fried, it gives the fries more surface area to develop a crust. It's quite nice. There are quite a few choices, the standard varieties are there, like bacon, pizza and galvaude... and you get a little score menu where you can make your own, and you can check off what you want like in a sushi resto. My friend had the godfather poutine which tasted like pizza, and I made my own with bacon, cheddar, cold slaw and red wine sauce, it was nice, it had some tanginess of the cold slaw with salty bacon (real bacon, thick cut pieces), and sharp cheddar to tie it all together. The poutine are about 12$ each, a bit on the pricier side, but it's good and the portions are huge. We also order a sample appetizer which had chicken wings, fried pickles, onion rings and fried cheese sticks, served with salsa and spicy mayo. Yummy, I definitely think it's better than la banquise, and the place always seems to be full when we pass by. On the menu there is this poutine called the heart attack!!! it's served in a huge frying pan, and it costs 50$!!! for 10-12 pounds of fries!!! read more

I can have poutine at just about every street corner in Montreal, but having seen this restaurant featured on Food Network's "You Gotta Eat here!" a few years back, I finally decided to try it. Note that I did not dine in at this establishment, I came in and ordered food to go. I got the "Hangover Cure" poutine which a generous mix of bacon, sausage, minced beef, cheese and a sunny side egg on top. We also left with the large "Godfather" creation, which is basically an Italian poutine, served with red peppers, eggplant, italian sausage and tomato meat sauce instead of the traditional gravy. Pricing at around 14$ for a small and 18$ for a large, these are on the expensive side but the price can be justified by the amount of toppings and protein. I was not able to finish the small in one sitting since there was so much meat and it was actually delicious reheated the next day. I preferred the traditional gravy over the italian sauce - I have had italian poutine before and found that this tomato sauce just wasn't flavorful enough. Poutineville lets you create your own poutines from scratch if you're not sure you like what's on the menu. There are plenty of options and something for everyone. The menu also features the "Heart Attack" which is a massive 15 pound feast priced at 100$. I can see this being an interesting challenge if you are with a group and it'll definitely be Instagram worthy. Bottom line, poutines here are delicious and they do have a nice dining room should you choose to stay however if you do not have a big appetite, the prices are a little over the top. read more

I added black olives, ground beef, guac and sour cream. There's 3 styles of fries you can choose from I took the smashed potatoes because they were different and I like different lol.The waitress Mary S was super friendly and even let us try different type of fries which was pretty cool. Nice poutine shop, the food is good, fries aren't too greasy, and there's a lot of variety to choose from. But the build-your-own poutine option is the real headliner here. For those looking for something different, there are a variety of potato styles to choose from (the smashed potatoes are great if you don't feel like fries) as well as a several sauces, including a red wine sauce which is very different from the traditional brown gravy used in poutine. The Beaubien location is quite popular and while it has no outdoor seating they do open the front windows when the weather is nice. And the service is fantastic and friendly. Unfortunately, parking can be tricky on Beaubien, and this place is really popular so sometimes it's really packed. But its worth the wait. I had been wanting to try Poutineville for ages, and constantly put it off until my decisive friends made the move for me. First off, I feel I didn't do Poutineville justice. I think this is the place you go to when you're already very clear about what poutine is, how you like yours, what you want it to taste like. I half-assedly odered the sampler: one small sweet potato fries/ pepper sauce and one small crushed potato fries with wine sauce. My friends on the other hand went all out with extra pogos and all-veggie and whatnot. So I recommend the sweet potatoes but, with wine sauce. The pepper sauce is much too salty actually and kills it all. I thought the cheese lacked in squeakiness. The bowls went cold quickly. It was all very okay. Okay so the wine sauce is delicious! I really enjoyed this place a lot. I like how you have the choice to choose what type of potato you want, traditional fries, sweet potato fries, or their famous smashed potatoes (like breakfast potatoes). I was torn between their sweet potato fries and smashed potatoes. But all 5 of us at the table ended up ordering smashed! It was really nice that as a vegan I still had a pretty good selection of sauces to choose from since about 4 out of 6 were unintentionally (or not) vegan. Having lived down the street from Poutineville for more than a year, my wife and I finally decided to go in. Being fans of poutine we couldn't understand what took us so long to pay them a visit. Poutineville is the Field of Dreams of Poutine. Essentially, if you build it, they will make it. You can either choose from one of there many preset poutine formats (I didn't even see the General Tao poutine, until I was leaving, but it will be my next order) or you can build your own, which is what my wife and I did. I went with the 3 pepper gravy, goat's cheese, fromage en grain, minced beef, mushrooms, and matchstick fries. The waitress we had was super nice and explained to us how it works to build your very own poutine. The service was super quick and very friendly. The fries were super soggy and almost stale, and the gravy and cheese curds were cheap and chewy. Ok, as a Stateside Southern boy from Georgia, I had never heard of poutine before visiting Montreal for the first time last week. I remember one of my colleagues described it this way, "Ok, dude, they take french fries and smother them in gravy..." I opted for the crushed potatoes (for my stateside bretheren, that's fried home fries crushed and fried a second time), mozzarella, bacon, olives, and that beautiful brown poutine gravy goodness. We got just what we wished for! This place has beer in pitchers and among many poutine dishes there was one dish called Criss de Cardiaque, which is basically 15 lbs of poutine. You get to chose the type of fries for the poutine, and we went for the home fries, which turned out to be a kind of mashed potato fries with lots of cheese and gravy and extra toppings like onion, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, green pepers, and maybe a few things I forgot to mention. Putting interesting spins on classic Quebec poutine, I'd go for Poutineville over La Banquaise, any day of the week but hey, that is just me. On our first visit, the owner(Costa?) was kind enough to provide a complementary braised beef poutine with blue cheese and a red wine gravy. I am a purist like fellow Yelper, Mathieu B. when it comes to poutine but holy hell, if this thing didn't sway me in the other direction. When in Montreal....you go to the place with a name that promises nothing but poutine. And then you leave blissfully stuffed and happy that the promise was fulfilled. First off, the service is fantastic! Our waitress was attentive, friendly, and patient - with the build-your-own-poutine menu, we needed some guidance. She even brought us a sample of their signature smashed potatoes (écrassées) to taste before ordering. After much deliberation, le boy and I decided to split a grande (it truly is!) Classique, which includes cheese curds, braised beef, the aforementioned potatoes, and a red-wine gravy/sauce. Seriously, one of the most satisfying simple dishes I've ever had! And definitely as far as poutine goes, the flavors were balanced and not too salty, which is what usually happens to other poutines that I've had. In a futile effort to balance out the meal with something light, we also shared the grande warm goat-cheese and eggplant salad. Turns out they know how to make delicious "healthy" fare here too! Miraculously, I still had room for dessert and got the brownie cheesecake. It felt a bit like an afterthought (tasted like grocery-store variety), but I can't fault them too much for it - it's doubtful that many people have any room for dessert after a meal at Poutineville. After I leave Montreal, this meal is one that I'll be trying to replicate back home unsuccessfully, I fear. read more

Continuing on my hunt for the quality poutine spots in Montreal I had an opportunity to visit Poutineville last night with some friends. I just LOVE that they have an active presence on social media - facebook and twitter. Way to connect! The poutine: - I ordered the classic and it was good. I particularly loved the fries they used. The cheese (grains frais) wasn't my fave (I like it super squeaky) but combined with the super fries and poutine maison sauce, worked nicely. - I tried a bit of Julie's order (onions, peppers, tomatoes and bacon) and it was yummy. Lemme start with this: I love Poutineville. The location on Ontario gave me my first poutine AND my first meal after I got engaged, so it has a special place in my heart. That being said, I was pretty disappointed the one time I went to this location. It was a colder evening, and we walked in the rain after getting a bit turned around, so we were looking forward to good hot plates of food. Sadly, that isn't what we got. After some waiting and confusion because of the language barrier, we were seated. The restaurant was busy at the time so we were patient, and the server was patient with us. He was kind enough and I thought we communicated alright. But much to our dismay, after we placed our orders, the food arrived cold. Like, my cheese curds didn't even BEGIN to melt kind of cold. I'm not sure how this is happened, since the gent next to me had super stringy melty cheese. I jokingly say it's because we couldn't speak French and we messed something up while ordering, but I digress. It was still tasty, but would have been better hot, of course. It was sad for us since, as stated, my fiancee and I LOVE the location on Ontario. This one is MUCH closer to my fiancee's apartment so we were excited, but after this incident, we took the metro out and made the walk to Ontario instead. I mean it was good but it didn't jump out at me as being THAT much better than any other poutine that I have had, in my albeit limited poutine eating lifetime.
