I'd seen two previous optometrists prior to visiting Paul Vision and Dr. Taylor provided me with hope when he asked point blank, "May I be your eye doctor." I had been diagnosed 4 months prior with Thyroid Eye Disease and was having a terrible time with eye pressure (and even worse time finding help). During my first visit, Dr. Taylor prescribed eye drops. When I asked, "What happens if these don't work?" he replied, "Don't worry! There are a HUNDRED drops." See? HOPE! That was an encouraging remark! BUT SADLY ... after three months and three different drops that did NOT bring my eye pressure down, Dr Taylor said at an appointment, "You're going to have to go somewhere else. I've got no way to help you." I was stunned and asked, "Shouldn't there be 97 other drops since we've only tried 3 and you said there were a hundred?" He shrugged. He refused care for my eyes at that point. We understand that doctors "practice medicine" and we don't expect perfection ... but we do expect the best care. Either Dr. Taylor lied about there being 100 drops to choose from ... or ... he didn't like that he couldn't "fix" my eyes on the first three attempts, so he pronounced himself "done!" Completely disrespectful, discouraging, and unprofessional. Two other side notes: (1) Dr. Taylor wouldn't even discuss prism glasses with me when I asked about ordering a pair. (2) Dr. Taylor told me I should definitely try the Tepezza infusions for my eye disease, but when I asked for more information (materials, a pamphlet, anything) he said his office had nothing, but I should do it (with nothing to go on). If you ... or a family member needs more from an optometrist than a pair of glasses, I would recommend looking elsewhere for help. This (vision) office does not file any services through vision insurance whatsoever and this isn't disclosed at time of booking appointment. When i called to book, I was asked who my insurance was through & was even told they were in network, yet when I arrived to my appt they asked for my health insurance 'too.' I said I didn't have that on me, I had the vision insurance card which covered everything i had scheduled in full- i know for a fact that my medical insurance will not cover the exam or contact fitting. They looked at me like i had 8 heads as i backed away from the counter when it was confirmed that if I went through with the appointment, I would then be responsible for a bill that I had no clue how high it could go (looking at reviews from 5+ years ago, looks like it would easily be hundreds of dollars as opposed to $0 if they would just bill the correct insurance company from the beginning). They mentioned that they are a specialist, but this makes no sense either since i've been to a dental specialist who still bills all services through dental insurance. Other google reviews say they claim they're a specialist and that means most patients need multiple visits.. still not making any sense. They said if my medical insurance denied everything, that I could then reach out to my vision insurance to try to be reimbursed--just no. Why would you unnecessarily complicate something like this? People shouldn't have to file claims and deal with that whole process after the fact because you refuse to file insurance properly on the front end. You should be able to trust professional medical offices. If you review your insurance policy benefits and locate a provider within network, there is absolutely no reason for a patient to then be met with such untraditional practices and refusal to utilize an insurance policy that is solely in place for the services provided here. Perhaps if this doctor had a sprained ankle and sought care and was then asked for their dental insurance, maybe then they would understand how absolutely scammy and bizarre this practice sounds. read more

Dr. Taylor and the team provide excellent customer service. They did a complete assessment, using testing. And they alleviated a couple of my concerns. I've been going to Paul Vision for a few years and always have been impressed by them. They are polite, friendly, efficient, on time as to taking me in and getting me out, and track my eye issues. I recently had an eye exam appointment with Paul Vision Institute. I was new to this practice and had chosen them because they advertise on their website that they use a holistic approach to eye care and that I could have an eye exam WITHOUT the use of dilation. Their website goes on to say that Dr. Taylor approaches eye care with your overall health and well-being as his priority. However, I did not find any of this to be true. Because I have auto-immune issues that hinder my lymph nodes from draining properly, I must (in order to survive) live a life without chemicals or toxins - which include dyes - so naturally, I was excited to find an eye doctor in Wilmington that offers no dilation. After my initial exam with their technician, Dr. Taylor came in and said he would be dilating my eyes to take a better look at a spot (specifically a benign neoplasm of unspecified choroid) on my eye that the images had detected. After I explained that I absolutely could not have the dyes, he expressed that no one could tell him how to do his job. I was definitely shocked by his reaction and expressed that it was my body and my choice to have the dye or not. He said he could not continue the exam and when I asked for the prescription for glasses, he refused. I know they had already determined my prescription because I watched the technician type it into their system. Whereas I understand that the dye would assist him in seeing a clearer picture of the spot on my eye, I think that he should have attempted to understand MY situation and at the very least, provided me with a prescription for glasses. It is very frustrating to be charged for an exam in which I received nothing. If they truly used a holistic approach, they would look at the person as a whole which definitely should include any autoimmune or other disorders. If they put your overall health and well being as a priority, they would have tried to find another solution. Instead, Dr. Taylor made it about himself. I'm sorry Dr. Taylor, but it had nothing to do with anyone trying to tell you how to do your job... it was about MY choice to decide whether you would insert dyes into MY eyes. read more

This office only bills you thru your medical insurance so if you have a vision plan - don't expect to use it. My husband went in and should have had a $10 copay but he was billed $190 because it was processed thru our medical plan not the Vision Plan. Prior to the appointment I confirmed they were in network and would accept our VSP. Then when he was there he was confirmed again and even told him our vision plan covered 1 year contacts and glasses. Don't go unless you want to be billed later a huge amount. read more

I am writing this review for a patient which I am a caregiver . Dr. Paul's Patient has Macular degeneration and on July 29 2019 purchased a pair of glasses from Dr Paul specifically designed for helping vision for patients with Macular degeneration. The cost $2,950 the patient has been paying monthly payments every month she has never been late. According to Paul vision payment plan she has til Aug.2020 to pay it off. She is 78 years old and on social security, I called the office and inquired via a rep from Dr.Paul's office if they would consider extending the payment plan as states on the care credit statement repayment plans offered are 6,12,18,24 months none of these were offered to this patient. I called the office and spoke to a rep who claims that the extended time frame is not offered to his patients.I asked if any exceptions can be made for this patient. I received a very cut and dry response NO, the one year is what is offered to his patients. The credit plan that Dr Paul uses states addition extended monthly payments so to me if the company extends the monthly WHY, WOULD THE DOCTOR NOT EXTEND THE PROGRAM TO HIS PATIENTS THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT IS CHARGED FOR THE GLASSES. This patient does not want a free ride she just needs more time. The amount of empathy that was shown was not what I would expect expect from a Doctor that concentrated on his business from customers that are loosing their sight.i would therefore,make sure you want to consider his payment program before I would commit myself to a short period to payoff a large amount of Money read more

I provided my insurance card prior to my exam and ask if they accepted my insurance. They said yes and then sent a bill for the exam and claimed that because this Doctor is a "specialist" we bill medically??? Now that both myself and my wife have had exams we are told we need to pay for the exam. Lots of semantics. No straight answers. Bottom line I'm stuck with $380.00 bill. read more

Paul Vision was recommended by another provider. TERRIBLE experience. They should have told me up front about the charges and potential fees. I explained when I set up the appointment what I was looking for, provided paperwork the first time and asked them to please check with my insurance provider and VSP to make sure that I know what is covered, etc. During the second visit, not only did they need me to complete the same paperwork again, they hadn't checked with VSP or my insurance carrier as I requested. And, then they told me that they were out of network with VSP and that their policy is to bill me upfront - $500 for a contact lens fitting fee and $1000 for the special lens. I moved here from a large city, and never had to pay anything even close to that. By that time, they had me and now I am stuck paying some of these fees, and I still have to go somewhere else to get my eyes examined for both contact and eyeglasses. What a waste of time and money. Not any way to run a practice. Any other recommendations for the area would be appreciated. read more

Thanks to the Paul Vision Institute, I finally feel confident that my eyesight is finally heading in the right direction. I am finally seeing change! Although I have not had the opportunity to meet Dr.Paul, I have had numerous appointments with Dr. Sara Brigman. Dr. Brigman gave me a through eye exam and was very proactive in listening to my concerns. Upon entering the waiting room, I am always greeted kindly and by name. The waiting room is very clean and modern and the appointment has always been in a timely fashion. The entire staff makes you feel like a person and not a number. I am thrilled to have met Kristy Woodard who has been there for me whenever I walked in with problems with my contact lenses. She has been an incredible help and has assisted me within minutes.
