Paula's is a Fort Wayne staple and an excellent choice for seafood in this land locked city. They have excellent features and specials. When I went I started with the raw oysters on the half shell. They emerged as big as my fist with sides if got sauce, horseradish and plenty of spicy cocktails sauce. These were absolutely delicious. They tasted of the sea, fresh and wonderful. I then rolled into a romaine salad. It was a piece of romaine lettuce rolled like a steak with bleu cheese dressing and bacon. The mix of crunchy and creamy, the peppercorns popping made me want to order another. I then had the combo platter of almond encrusted walleye ( straight from the Great Lakes), crab cake and scallops. The scallops were cooked perfectly--enough texture to know that they were cooked but not chewy. The crab cake was filled with meat and had wonderful consistency. My colleague got the king crab legs which looked delicious and each joint contained meat the size of chicken fingers. They also had local beers on draught. Every single time I have visited this establishment I've received the most lacking customer service. The staff has never been anything but rude to me while I've been nothing but patient and kind to them, tipping over 20% even just on carry out soup. I am in Fort Wayne on a business trip and wanted some good seafood. I went to Paula's alone and I was greeted within a few mins of my arrival. I was seated at the bar. I sampled a beer called Dragon's Milk. It was smooth but a bit high in alcohol content for my tastes, so I switched to Blue Moon. I had the combination platter for dinner and it was the best seafood I have ever had. The scallops were well cooked and seasoned perfectly. The crab cakes were soft and flaky, very tasty. The walleye was the best part. It has an almond crust and great flavor. I don't even really like walleye and I loved it. The place is small and you might want to avoid it on a Friday or Saturday night. I am betting it could have a long wait, but I don't know that for sure. It is clearly locally owned. The guy sitting next to me in the bar said he has known Paula for years and he grew up in the area. The staff was friendly, not exactly zippy, but adequate. For some reason, we waited almost 5 years to come here. I wish we wouldn't have waited so long, as we had a very positive experience. I made reservations for four people on the phone, and even though we arrived 15 minutes early, we were seated right away. Which was surprising, considering they were absolutely packed. That being said - the place is very noisy. Do not come here expecting to have a romantic, intimate experience. The place immediately smells like fish when you walk in - but in a good way. The seafood offerings from their market are proudly displayed, and you can definitely smell them when you first walk in. I loved that there were different seating options - a dining room, two bar areas, an upstairs, a back room with a piano (no one was playing when we were there). The interior design and decor gives off an upscale, divey feel if that makes sense? I think it's indicative of Fort Wayne at its best - it's classy without being pompous. But, the most important part - the food! The complimentary bread is delicious. Warm, fresh baked-taking, silky butter. Perfect. The appetizers we ordered - the calamari and the buffalo shrimp - were very good. I've definitely had better calamari, but the four of us found ourselves fighting over the buffalo shrimp. Two of my dining companions ordered the walleye, my husband ordered the combo platter, and I ordered the Greek shrimp scampi. We all ordered salads and a side. My caesar salad was delicious! Everyone in Fort Wayne raves about the Casa Caesar salad, but I've never been impressed with it. Paula's Caesar, however, is crunchy, fresh, and they'll add anchovies if you request it! All of the seafood we ate was superb - the Midwest isn't exactly a "hotspot" for fresh seafood, but the portions were perfect, the seafood tasted fresh, not frozen, and all of the seasonings and entree components paired nicely without overpowering the fish. The only disappointing aspect of my dish was the side - I ordered the cauliflower and it was bland, and missing the olives that were supposed to come with it. Our waitress was very nice and accommodating. Two of our dining companions do not speak English as a first language, and the server was very patient and asked questions, wasn't patronizing at all. She did, however, start clearing the table while two of us were still finishing our entree, which I thought was a little odd and felt like she was trying to rush us. Fabulous! I moved to Ft Wayne 1 year ago and have been finding new places to dine amidst the pandemic. We don't eat out much but when we do, we want it to blow our socks off. To us Paula's is the BEST seafood restaurant in or around Fort Wayne. Their salmon, trout, shrimp, etc. etc. etc. is fresh and always delicious. Service is impeccable, we usually ask for Lindsey who is such a joy. We do have one complaint though. Some of the tables upstairs have the legs at the corner of the table and the other tables have a center support. What's the difference? When the upstairs is busy and space is at a premium it's very hard to get out because of the large legs at the corner. We couldn't move our chairs backwards because there were people right up against us, we had to move one way then the other to get out. Maybe management can look into this. ?? We've been coming to Paula's for years and have never been disappointed. It's not inexpensive, but there's always a fine variety of FRESH seafood available. I couldn't comment on the few chicken or beef entrees they offer, no one in our parties has ever ordered any! The atmosphere is casual, but dresses and jackets would seem just as at home as jeans. Service has always been excellent. Full bar. Don't think I've ever managed to save enough room for dessert! The perch picatta is a favorite of mine, though today I ordered another signature dish, the almond-crusted walleye.... so mild, so crisp on the outside, with jalapeño tartar sauce on the side. Mussels appetizer was delicious.... used all of our bread basket to sop up the tomato broth. Mmmmm! This place has been here for years and it's one of my favorite places to eat in Fort Wayne. Because of the distance away from the coasts, I usually have pretty low expectations about seafood restaurants in the Midwest area of our country. But if you're looking for fresh fish or shellfish, this place MUST be on your list to visit. I have been here twice and both times the food was amazing. On my most recent visit, I came here with a colleague of mine for lunch. He had a trout dish and I had a seafood pasta - both excellent! The service was attentive and friendly. I've spent my last $100 on a dinner at Paula's. Tonight we had arguably the WORST table in the house--upstairs, overlooking the bar, next to the restrooms and the dirty dish bussing area. On top of that, we were in front of a window with a western exposure (evening sun) and no blinds or shades. After one hour we had salads. We had to ask for bread although every other table had some, so it wasn't a request for something special. Last night we went to Paula's for my husbands birthday. We started off with buffalo shrimp and it was great. Large shrimp, breaded and dipped in buffalo sauce. Then we had the house salad which was awesome. Then we had an almond coated fish with an orange sauce with the garlic mashed potatoes. My hubby had a cioppella which had crab, clams and shrimp in a great tomato sauce. It was delicious!! Truly amazing! Thank you for an awesome lunch yesterday! I ordered one of the plates on the "specials" menu, which was a salad with seared scallops. Wow! It was absolutely delicious! My wife also ordered a dish off the specials menu, which was a bed of greens with grilled halibut. It was pretty good, but we both agreed that the star of the lunch was my salad with the delicious and perfectly cooked scallops. In addition, I started my lunch with a cup of the carrot ginger soup, which was pretty tasty, and my wife started off with the clam chowder. Next time, I would order the chowder too. We finished off the sublime experience with a wonderful piece of carrot cake to split. Awesome! Service was slightly slow to start off, but we were in and out the door in under an hour during lunch. Altogether, with tip, our meal was about $47. My salad was about $12.95 and main entree my wife choose was slightly more at $13 something or the other. I really, really wanted to like this place. But with entrees priced at $21-30, I, simply put, expect more. About the menu: if the seafood is fresh, why coat so many of the entrees in breading? What about delicate flavors that complement the fish? I ordered the Mediterranean whitefish. It was plated sloppily over wilted spinach (although the spinach was good!) and *drenched* in lemon. My husband joked that, "They must have dropped a jar of capers," because at least 4 Tablespoons landed on my plate. In sum, the dish was poorly executed. For $15, I would have been more generous in my review. But at Paula's fine-dining prices, when my "side" of cavatappi is limp, and its artichoke and tomato (assembled sauce) is straight from the can, I just have to offer tough feedback. read more

Good Yelp reviews led me to try this little restaurant. Located just a few minutes from downtown Fort Wayne we easily found a parking space in their parking lot. The building appears to be an old store of some kind with a eclectic interior very well done. As you enter you see a nice display of seafood for sale and probably what is served. There were also some other carry out items such as pasta salad in the cases. It was around 1:15 pm and a weekday and we were quickly seated. After several minutes our server greeted us and quickly returned with our drinks. They have a separate lunch menu with many entrees in the $10 range. Nice selection of appetizers, soups and salads, sandwiches and entrees. A number of seafood selections. I was particularly interested in the almond crusted walleye which had good Yelp reviews, but the server told us about their lunch specials....around 3 or 4, and we both selected the lake perch. It was to come with slaw and fruit and was $10.95. My wife ordered a cup of the Clam Chowder....$3.95 and I ordered the Caesar Salad for $5.50. The server asked if we would also like bread and brought a basket of very lightly seasoned Rosemary bread. The Chowder was definitely home made and excellent. Not as thick as the typical Chowder, but very creamy with lots of clam and some carrots and red potatoes. Very much clam chowder but different, in a good way, than most. My Caesar salad was also excellent. The dressing again appeared to be homemade along with the croutons. After we finished our soup and salad our Perch Plate arrived. A good portion of corn meal dredged, golden brown, fillets. Although we were told it came with slaw and fruit, and the chalkboard also indicated such, we received slaw and a pasta salad. The slaw was very good as was the pasta salad, but we should have been told the fruit was not available and perhaps given a couple substitutes. The server had also told us about their excellent tartar sauce but none was served with our fish. It was quickly brought out when we requested. It was quite different than the typical tarter sauce and had a hint of heat.....very good. I am not suggesting poor service, but that with excellent food and reasonable prices, only a few minor errors gives them a 4 star and not 5 star rating. Overall a very good experience. The more reviews I do the harder I get on the venues. I might have given them a 5 months ago. I will definitely go back, the next time for dinner. read more

This was our first visit to Paula's and I must say the food and service was awesome!You can tell that their food is made from scratch and that's what makes it so good. I tried the oyster rockefeller and thought it was one of the top 3 I've ever had. My friend had the clam chowder and thought it was pretty darn good. Our entire table ordered king crab legs and fillet and found the potions more than you can eat. The crab was so fresh and tasty. Our server, Sarah was the best! I am writing in regards to my recent visit to your establishment on October 17, 2015 - 7:00 PM. I wanted to start by saying that in the many years of living in Fort Wayne, this was my first visit to your location. We arrived for our reservation, and were promptly seated. The service was excellent and great. There were no complaints about the food. The atmosphere though was less then tasteful. We were there celebrating our 9 year wedding anniversary and needless to say that we were seated next to a rather large group of obnoxious and loud people - whom apparently had no handle on how much they drank. At no point during our evening there did any manager attempt to quite this group, as I looked around the area it appeared that not one person was happy about the noise. I even watched as 1 couple requested to be moved. During the time we sat there I did not see at any point any employee or manager attempt to quite them down. I would have thought better of the staff to quite the table, but apparently coming in and partying like you're at college sorority frat party who cannot handle there drinking - is an acceptable and encourage at your establishment. I kind of anticipate that when I go to B'Dubs, i expect to be in an atmosphere liked that. I would have thought at an establishment that you pay 35$-50$+ per plate of food, that staff would have put a stop to the noise or asked them to leave..so diners around could enjoy there celebrations. I do understand the noise - but there is noise, then there is obnoxious I am a drunken sorority girl noise, and the noise was that of drunken sorority girls who can't handle there wine... Great little place kinda off the beaten path. Loved the seafood counter as you walk in. The smells of the fresh seafood mixed with the smells coming from the dining area were intoxicating. Went for lunch and was very pleased. Had the fish tacos. Portions were generous and the plate was very well put together. Prices were reasonable. This review is so overdue that I'm embarrassed to be writing it. I will try to find a way to get over that and do what I should have done a couple months ago - write a review about this jewel of a restaurant. I would by lying if I talked about what I ate because I really don't remember. But I vividly remember the great service, the nice ambiance, the solid bar and the overall experience of eating here. In fact, I liked it so much I took a group of people there two nights after my first visit. I ate at Paula's with a small group of work associates (about 6 people). We had such a great time that I took a group of 12 there two nights later. I'm sure Ft. Wayne has lots of good restaurants, but Paula's was good enough to bring me back for two of the three dinners I had when I was in town. I would give anything to remember the name of our waitress. I have one favorite restaurant in the world: Paula's. The southern exposure windows add natural light and ambience, the staff is always friendly and efficient and the food always fresh and whenever possible, sourced locally. Trying a different item on the menu every time I dine at Paula's is my favorite strategy to enjoy Paula's robust menu. The shrimp cocktail is some of the best anywhere and the last time I ate fish n' chips that where fresher I was in Ireland on the Atlantic seaboard.
