Last year I took my car to this place to get the tires and rotors replaced. When I picked it up my rotors were still making noise so we took it back and they said they must have dropped the rotor while replacing them. They said they would replace them for free. Decided to take my car to a different mechanic this year where it was evident he never touched my rotors in the first place. Charged me for a full replacement and never looked at them. Would stay far away from this scam center. read more

I've been working with Paul's Auto repair for a while now and they are consistently excellent. The most recent installment involved my old 2010 Audi. The transmission failed while my wife was driving it to BWI to catch a flight. I had it towed back to Paul's in Wilmington because I know I can trust them. It would have been easy to tell me that the transmission was blown...it was what I was expecting to hear...instead they found a failed O-ring that caused a complete loss of transmission fluid. The repair was a fraction of what I was expecting. These guys are stand-up awesome honest mechanics. Had I gone to a dealer I guarantee the diagnosis would have been different and total cost would have been several times the tow cost + repair cost. Paul's techs are friendly and really know what they are doing. We have taken in Subarus, Hondas, and Volkswagens. The repairs were quick and reasonably priced. There is no up-sell pressure, or vague descriptions requiring left-handed wrenches or blinker fluid. It is an old fashioned shop, that does good work. They stand behind the work they do, and are willing to actually explain what they need to do. They also listen when you explain that thunka-thunka noise when you down-shift. It makes me sad to see that no one has reviewed this wonderful place. New to the area, I came to Paul's after several of my coworkers unanimously recommended it. Now I wouldn't think of going anyplace else. Paul and the gang are honest, straightforward, and have never tried to sell me a single thing I didn't need. Having a broke grad student for a customer is surely no picnic, but they've always been patient and generous with me. When I needed a new cabin air filter but was too cheap to buy it from them, Corbin actually showed me how to REPLACE IT MYSELF so that I could buy it at Wal-Mart instead (due to Wal-Mart's utter incompetence at keeping filters stocked, though, I'll be getting mine from Paul's after all). Likewise, when they replaced one of my headlights they gave me detailed instructions so that I could do it myself next time--my heroes! And when they replaced my busted car battery today, they didn't charge for labor, in spite of all the time TWO of them spent cleaning my battery terminal, checking my tires, and clipping a loose part back on. I'm not a car expert, so it's important for me to have a mechanic I trust not to take me for a ride (ha). Paul's Auto Repair is the ultimate example of building a fiercely loyal customer base through honesty, extremely reasonable prices, and excellent service. Hats off to you, Paul's! read more

This guy is an absolute joke! I have no idea where the good reviews came from because it damn sure ain't Mike. I took my 99 Accord there for a timing belt and water pump. It took him 3 month's!! Everything from whining about not having mechanics, blaming it on defective parts (even though the problem was there BEFORE I took it to him so "defective" parts is laughable), "he's working on it now" for 6 weeks, to even blaming ME, because I told him what was wrong and "we fixed what you told us to". Get that, a mechanic relying on a "customer" for diagnostics. Problem is bud I know what a bad water pump bearing sounds like and it's why I brought it to you for work. After 3 months of complete and utter BS, the problem is still there. You've been warned, this dude is a scam, has a bad attitude and won't fix your car. Stay away people, he's not your guy. read more

I was recommended to Paul's some five years ago when I had an Acura adaptation of an Izuzu Trooper which always had problems. These his guys were very quickly able to fix. I also have a Hummer 2 which is a car which I should never have bought. Always problems. Paul has fixed transmission problems, replaced rear suspension and many other things. Always well done. And always advice that I should get rid of it. But all his people always are cheerful and knowledgeable about cars. A great place to go to, and so glad that someone sent me there in the first place. I'm new to the city and when my car broke down I had to have to towed to the nearest place - which happened to be Paul's. I lucked out - great little place and Paul is very knowledgable and honest. Maybe folks were treated better years ago when this spot was first reviewed . . . or maybe I just caught the whole crew on an apathetic day/week. Even from the couple of minutes it took on the phone to set up an appt with him, Mike mumbled more than engaged, making it clear that he had far better things to do. His shop completed the job on My Beloved at by far the cheapest price around and in less than time than scheduled, but it was the customer service, or lack thereof, that left the bad taste in my mouth. No one bothered telling me that my car was parked over a block away from the shop after she was finished; no one thanked me for my service or offered any future maintenance specials. The youngster who took my payment couldn't be bothered to give an exact price for an oil change, and whether there was a Warranty on my brand new tires or not, he could only say "there could be: there're so many different ones for all the different companies, I couldn't be sure." Most disrespectful, though, was that although he saw me both when I returned to get my car and when I left after paying, Mike never once greeted me or showed any interest in the hundreds of dollars I had just put down that could have established me as a new loyal customer. read more

We have been lucky enough to meet Paul within the last year. I honestly only wish we had met him a long time ago. Paul is so honest and professional. He has been more than reasonable with all our car repairs. For our family we have 5 used cars that constanly need some type of repair or service. We woulden't think of taking our cars anywhere else. I've been going to Paul's Auto Repair for almost a year now and I can honestly say that this is the best auto repair shop that I've found in about 10 years of living in Delaware. A co-worker introduced me to Paul and I told him that I needed some repairs done to my 2003 Honda Civic and he told me to bring my car to his shop anytime. I went there a week later, dropped my car off and expected to have to pay a few hundred dollars in repairs. I picked up the car after work and Paul told me that my car only needed oil and some other minor repairs and the bill was about $100 in total!! I couldn't believe it! Since my car was having trouble accelerating, I expected him to tell me that I either had to pay well over $500 or think about getting a new car. Other mechanics would have probably used that opportunity to take advantage of me and find other things to repair (since they've never serviced my car before) and charged me tons of money for unnecessary repairs. Paul is honest, fair and a really nice guy. Him and his staff care about the work that they do and that makes me happy. He always explains the repairs in a way where I can understand them and he goes over how much everything costs so that it all makes sense to me before I leave. I've always had good experiences when getting my car repaired at his shop. If you need a new mechanic and you live in the Wilmington area, go to Paul's Auto Repair.
