Get there early in the day for a variety of pastries and donuts! I recommend the glazed donuts and the one with blueberry. Its more yeasty and filling compared to typical donuts like krispy kreme. Its not "empty" inside once you bite into the donut which makes the donut so delicious. We have a place called Schulers in Ohio that has incredible donuts so Im usually not overly impressed with bakeries and their donuts because, in my eyes, they dont compare.... places like Dunkin Donuts... their donuts don't compare. BUT then I drove past this place on the way to work and it had the "mom and pop" look i look for in a good bakery. For a few weeks I was wanting to stop in so I finally left early one day in order to stop in and I was not disappointed. Their donuts are really good. Was a little bummed I didnt see any bismarks but I got a glazed which was really really good and a donut with maple flavored icing on it. Stopped by for donuts the other day after living in Stafford for 14 years and never once having a donut from Paul's. I was delighted! The traditional glaze was by far the best bakery glazed donut I have ever had. It was fresh and glazed to perfection, not to sweet and Oh so soft. I also had the honey wheat donut. I am a fan! I will be dropping by more often to try other varieties. I suggest everyone give Paul's a try at least once. It has small town atmosphere with the high quality you expect from a New York Bakery. The best donuts in Fredericksburg. My favorite 3 donuts are plain glazed, strawberry filled and coconut in that order. Yes the donuts are so good that sometimes (most in my opinion) you don't want to hide it with other flavors. If I could describe the taste and texture to someone who has never had one, think of a slightly more flavorful less sweet Krispy Kreme donut. The texture is just as enveloping as a Krispy Kreme when you sink your teeth into it. Feels like an ultra thin crepe stuffed with a cloud. My only knock is I've never had a freshly made hot donut. Great local bakery. The doughnuts are excellent and addictive and it is real easy to get caught eating 3-4 off these puppies in one sitting if you are not careful. Totally worth seeking out this place on the way to Monticello. Traffic delayed us getting here and we arrived a little after 10 am on a Saturday morning. We were worried the selection would be very picked over. To our surprise they were fully stocked with everything! It was pretty busy, but they had plenty of staff to take orders and the wait was short. The chocolate frosting is homemade and delicious atop their chewy yeast donuts. Real bacon on top of the maple glazed, to die for. The old fashioned donut was perfectly crunchy on the edges. To top it off the prices are phenomenal, less than $12 for a dozen delicious donuts! read more

Paul's used to be the best, but since the son (correct me if I'm wrong) took over, the quality has gone down drastically. Donuts taste like they were fried in old oil or perhaps a lower quality of oil. Brownies used to be everybody's favorite, but again the taste has changed-the formally scrumptious chocolate frosting is now nothing more than a glob of the same thing they slap on the donuts.
