She could tell my brother's dog Jaz was a bit antsy about getting a bath (her arch nemesis) and offered some treats to help relax her. Clare showed us to our wash station, explained what we needed to know, and gladly gave Jaz some scritches; Jaz was so happy!! She does hate baths, but adored the blow dryer. Overall, it seems like all the staff here do a wonderful job taking care of customers, keeping the store clean and organized, and providing a friendly and low-pressure environment-- an absolute MUST in this ruined economy. Jaz also got a new tug-of-war toy and is in love with it. We will definitely be bringing her back here for future bathing and product needs!

Eek Since I got home late I ran elsewhere to get basic supplies but I wanted to get a few quality items as well so I came to Pet People. The first thing I noticed was the a young man was happily carrying a large bag of foot food out for an elderly woman and still managed to stop and acknowledge us while on his way. Everyone we met inside, from employees to customers, were all the nicest people ever and take the time to love on your fur baby. The employees knew all of the dogs that came in by name. They showed us around and made recommendations for food etc. I also learned that they have a dog washing station in the back that is very handy. There is a frequent buyer dog food program that we signed up for. We will definitely be back even if it is a bit pricier than I'm used to.

We came home and put in an application through the Humane Society. We were told that Meowza wanted us to come in and see them again before we could take them home. We waited in Dayton Mall for an hour before opening the next day as not to miss them. We went in and asked about the cats and were told they were placed on hold. The shop manager had called before opening to place them on hold for "friends" of hers outside of store hours. We were told we were not allowed to see them or take one home. This was very frustrating as we had gone through the proper procedures and preparations to bring our new kitten home with the understanding we would be bringing it home after formalities. We were later told we could choose another cat for free but that isn't what this is about. We did not deserve the treatment we received there and we don't want another cat. We wanted the one we felt a connection to. While I fully support the Dayton Humane Society I will never enter this store again and will certainly share our story with others. I would not suggest adopting from here-unless you are a personal friend of Sally.

It has been almost 2 years since my husband and I adopted our Fletcher from the Animal Resource…read moreCenter. It's even been over a year since we lived in Ohio, but I felt like I should come by and leave a review! We weren't yet married but we had been dating for several years, looking toward college graduation as well as our wedding, and we were a couple months away from adopting a dog. Excited, we decided to take a little tour of the various places around town to see who we wanted to go with. The Humane Society was full of very nice people but it was small and very sad inside, like a long cement and metal hallway lined with dogs. Sicsa was... rude. Very rude. Possibly because we were not 50 years old, but I did not expect to be treated like that at a no-kill shelter (and I have not been treated like that at others I have gone to). This place, though, was a definite relief. Employees were very helpful, it was crawling with young people who volunteered to take the dogs outside and whatnot, and it was very clean and pleasant to be inside. We were not ready to adopt. We were a few weeks from moving in to a dog friendly townhouse, but we decided to go in and look at the pups anyway. This is when we met Fletcher. Listed as a 6 month old terrier mix, he looked nothing like a terrier, but he was a small, thin, short black haired ball of life. He was adorable and he was bouncing everywhere, so I stuck my arm in to pet him; my heart was stolen when he wrapped his front legs around my arm and started to give kisses. I melted. My husband melted. And we bid goodbye with a pat on the head and a "you will make an amazing best friend for a lucky person." Oh man, was I ever correct. Fast forward a month or so and we had literally just moved into our new place. We could finally have a dog! I was at work and I wandered over to the Animal Resource Center's Petfinder page. Without a picture, the name "Fletcher" had been posted just that day. I squealed and called my husband, who promptly picked me up for my lunch break. It couldn't be, could it?! No way Fletcher would STILL be at the shelter. Well, he wasn't still there, but he was back. I walked in and saw our hyper boy, a tiny bit bigger but still just as high on life as when we first saw him. More energy than I never imagined. We were told how he had been adopted by a couple with a small apartment and they decided he was too hyper, so he was returned. I still can't fathom this. I didn't question much at the time because Fletcher was THERE and we could take him home after all. Now, though, I don't see how anyone could send this dog away. He is the single most happy being I have never seen and every day is the best day of his life. He is so full of life and love and that person's loss is definitely the best thing to happen to my husband and I, because this crazy boy is ours forever! The fine folks at the Animal Resource Center even made a little accommodation for us: they agreed to hold on to Fletcher for us for a few hours, just so I could finish the work day and then come back for him. We were very, very glad they allowed this! Fletcher was, and still is, extremely energetic. We lived in a townhouse with no real yard, and he did just fine: it's called walking and dog parks, people! Play with the dog, let him exercise, and everything works out. Luckily I believe his previous owners were good to him regardless, as he didn't seem abused or frightened at all. I'm very glad for that. Now we live in a one bedroom apartment in Chicago, 3rd floor in a walkup building. We have since adopted a cat and another dog and I promise you, we are at absolutely no risk of needing to abandon any of our pets; our dogs LOVE to play. They get walked, and they go to dog parks. They even go to daycare on Saturdays if the weather has been too bad for parks for many days on end. Even more so than before, I cannot comprehend how someone could have returned Fletcher. He is an absolute treasure and he along with his sister and kitty brother make us happier than anything else!
