the last thing a pet owner wants ahead of a long weekend is a trip to the emergency vet; actually, most pet owners i know aren't excited about emergency vet visits at any time of year but when they happen and you want to make sure your fur baby is ok, you go, regardless of the costs involved. late last week i made the decision to take my dog in with an issue i've seen him have before but this time all my efforts didn't curb the symptoms and i decided i'd get a jump on what promised to be a full emergency waiting room ahead of fireworks and loud noises. the closest VEG location to me is in interbay but when i called they suggested i go to lynwood, federal way or redmond because they were already slammed. so up to lynnwood we went and when we walked in, i got an introduction into how differently VEG locations handle things. each pet/human is greeted and triaged. the open concept of seeing everyone working and every other patient out in the open may be different from what you're used to but it demystifies things for sure. you're not left wondering what's happening to your pet behind closed doors. and in an emergency when your cortisol levels may already be elevated this is most likely a welcome difference in protocol. we were ushered to an alcove with a couch and someone came over with a laptop to get details and reasons why we were there. minutes later a tech and vet arrived and we talked to them. she patiently listened and said she'd develop a plan for how to investigate what was going on and in retrospect i appreciated that she didn't go straight to imaging and other costly testing but decided to go the route of labs/biochemical diagnoses to rule things like pancreatitis out. once she left us, i got a text message with a quote and link to pre pay. having done that, we waited a bit longer and another pair of staff arrived to draw blood. we were told it would take about 30min for lab results. we waited, we watched the staff moving around to different patients with different needs levels. eventually the vet returned with lab results and recommendations before another tech came with discharge papers and a goodie bag of sample gastrointestinal foods. all told, we were there about two hours and i was highly impressed with the level of service and care we received. things were clean, the staff all seemed positive about the company they are employed by and they genuinely care about delivering a high standard of care to everyone who walked through the doors, human and animal. one thing i appreciated was that the vet mentioned that i could call or email with follow up questions and also mentioned that if we needed to return, we could go to the interbay location because all locations are connected and would have access to his file/treatments. yesterday we received a follow up text to check on him, also encouraging calls if we have questions. VEG seems to have emergency veterinary service and human customer service dialed in. it's hard to know who and where to go in an emergency but i'd carried the VEG name and number in my phone for years without having a need to use them; now i can say that i'd recommend them based on our experience this past weekend. read more

Brought my grandpuppy, Daisy, in after she yoinked a whole Costco oatmeal raisin cookie. Got her and my daughter right over to VEC, knowing that raisins (& grapes) can be deadly to dogs. She was triaged immediately by the kindest, caring staff. Will need blood panels done for the next 2 days to insure that her renal numbers remain normal. I'm grateful to the staff and Dr Daney at VEG for helping save the life of our precious little tortie Mocha. She was very sick and vomiting a lot when I took her in last month at about 5am on a Saturday morning. I was extremely worried for Mocha, but the staff and Dr quickly assessed her and made sure she was stable. The doctor even prepared a coffee for me as I had run out of the house so quickly I didn't have any that morning. The news I received was very bad and Dr Daney had great compassion and gave me useful information and options. Surgery was likely needed and the cost through VEG was VERY high. I was given some other options for surgery and they medicated and hydrated Mocha to help her with her symptoms and I was given care instructions. I'm happy to report that surgery was NOT needed and Mocha is back to her silly old self now. I'm convinced though the quick care she received from VEG saved her life. My only concern with my visit is the very high cost which was $948. I understand I'm paying for the an emergency service, but it still seems high. I'm still grateful and I won't hesitate to go to them again or recommend them for emergency services for your furry loved one. read more

VEG has provided excellent medical care for our dog. Dr. Partnow performed spinal surgery to remove a tumor and has communicated well along the way. Our dog is now being referred over to oncology for follow up. We have spent $15k so far and will have another $8k-10k of expenses over the next year. The care is still high value and this would be a 5 star rating except for my experience yesterday, which would have brought it down to a 1 if I had not had such good medical care. VEG just added a 3% fee for all credit cards. That would be a surcharge $450 if it were applied to our pet's surgery and will be another ~$300 this next year. That is a significant 3% cost increase overnight. The only way to avoid this fee is to walk in the door with a wad of cash or to use a debit card. A surcharge might work find for a $50 meal, but it is a lot of money and many/most banks do not accept debit card payments of greater than $1,000. Yesterday I had to make two different debit card payments to cover a $1,4000 bill. Also, if you have a large single bill, you need to have the cash sitting in your bank at the time of service. Most people will not have an option to avoid this fee on the spot. It is such an affront to people in a fairly desperate moment, so they may not complain on the spot. But veterinary fees have already increased significantly over the last 5 years, and this is just one more sneaky fee that is very difficult to avoid and every customer will notice it. Many other other veterinary offices do not include a credit card surcharge. If you are voting with your pocketbook, add this into the cost quote and compare with other clinics. Because the fee you are quoted is not the fee you will likely pay. I am really disappointed with VEG and will use their services sparingly because I feel I got a bait and switch. VEGs actual credit card service charges from the bank are likely much less than 3% so this is really just padding the bottom line. Maybe that is where many clinics are heading, but it seems dishonest and just doesn't work for customers. read more

Everything, My 6 lb Chihuahua was in respiratory distress at 12:30 on a Saturday night. I put her in the car. I called the EG ahead of time and told them I was on my way when I walked in. They were ready to triage Cici, the ultrasound, her and immediately put her in oxygen. She never left my site. It was a long night, but they instilled confidence that she was being taken care of, and the fact that she never left my sight when she was being cared for was wonderful. Oreo, my precious 7 yr cat, ate a small crocheted toy. Once we read that ingesting yarn was life threatening and could require surgery unless it was vomited out, we didn't bother with his regular vet and rushed him to VEG. We completed the online checkin enroute and when we got to the clinic, they were expecting us and right away got us a room and Oreo was treated in a fast, efficient, and caring professional way. From the receiving staff to the doctor(s) Oreo got the best care. Best of all, they successfully induced vomiting in a few minutes and avoided the worst case scenario! I thankfully did not need to go into this vet in person but I found their process very helpful! I wasn't sure if my dog needed an emergency vet and when I called in a vet got on the line and helped me walk through his symptoms and helped me determine if it was something urgent or something we could wait to visit with his regular vet. Came here for emergency services for my cat. The staff were lovely with meeting my cats needs and also respecting her little quirks. I went in at around 11PM and didn't get done until 2:30 AM, which is my only major complaint, other than the confusing way they go about payments and stuff for treatment. I was told someone would be by to talk to me and for me to fill out forms on a tablet but everything was sent to my phone and I wasn't aware of it because I had my phone in my purse. Otherwise, her treatment and treatment plan were pretty straight forward and staff did great at answering all my questions. read more

The staff here was great. We got right in and the problem was identified immediately. I like their open concept and how we were able to be by our dog's side the whole time. We unfortunately had to put our sweet dog down but I really appreciated the privacy they gave us to grieve and the care and dignity they showed to us and our dog during this very difficult time. As we sat in the main area where others were they placed a privacy partition around us as we grieved and gave us lots of Kleenexes too! When it came time to put her down they had a nice soft lit room with couches for us so we could be with her in her last moments. Had a really good experience bringing our kitten here for treatment in the middle of the night. The wait time was long because there were some dogs in worse condition that took priority. But overall the people were so compassionate, friendly, and trustworthy. I will always come back here for emergencies. I like the concept of the open floor plan. I brought my cat to this VEG seeking help during what turned out to be the final days of his life. We were at the clinic for over three hours, yet my cat only received approximately 15 minutes of direct care, which consisted of a blood draw and urine sample. The total bill for this visit was just under $900. During the majority of the visit, my cat remained in his crate next to me while we waited. He was urinating blood and was clearly in significant distress. Despite this, no IV fluids, pain medication, or other supportive care were provided while we waited for the test results. Given that the total bill for the visit was nearly $900, I expected more immediate medical support for a pet in this condition. It was heartbreaking. When the veterinarian finally came to speak with us, we were told that our cat was in advanced kidney failure. After discussing options, we made the difficult decision to bring him home and focus on keeping him comfortable. The veterinarian told us she would return to check us out. However, more than an hour passed with no update. Eventually a different staff member came over and informed us that the veterinarian had already left the clinic, and that she would handle the discharge. At no point were we informed that the doctor had left. Before leaving, this assistant attempted to show me how to administer subcutaneous fluids at home. The way this was handled was extremely concerning. The fluid bag, tubing, and supplies were placed directly on the floor, and I was instructed to hold my cat in my lap instead of using one of the available exam tables. Because my cat was understandably uncomfortable and moving, the needle went through his skin and out the other side, causing fluid to spray onto both of us. It was chaotic, messy, and very upsetting during an already emotional moment. To summarize the experience: * Over 3 hours spent at the clinic * Approximately 15 minutes of actual treatment (blood and urine testing only) * No supportive care provided to make my cat feel comfortable while waiting * Total bill of nearly $900 * Veterinarian left the clinic without informing us * Subcutaneous fluid training conducted with supplies on the floor with my cat on my lap rather than on an exam table Sadly, our cat passed away three and a half days later. Emergency veterinary visits are often some of the most difficult moments pet owners experience. In situations like this, quality care, clear communication, compassion, and professionalism are incredibly important. Unfortunately, that was not our experience here. Because of this, we will not be returning and cannot recommend this clinic to others. read more

I have a HUGE rave for Veterinary Emergency Group! My mom has one of those dogs that's always getting into trouble, and as an emergency vet "regular," she's always told me to go to VEG if we need urgent help. On Saturday, I discovered my dog Callie had eaten a diaper out of an open trash can after she began to vomit up clumps of diaper fluff, and I called our regular vet, whose after-hours voicemail said to call VEG Lynnwood. I then remembered my mom's words and, feeling doubly reassured, called VEG. A triage specialist patiently walked me through their concerns for my pup by phone. When I expressed anxiety about the cost, she put me on the phone with a vet directly, who encouraged me to at least come in for a stomach ultrasound and promised to keep the total cost as low as possible, while gently doing her best to help me understand the level of risk. (Diaper contents absorb & expand; very risky.) I then brought Callie in to VEG Lynnwood, and was thoroughly amazed by the care we received. We were promptly checked in and triaged. Ten minutes after our arrival - just enough time for Callie to on their floor, and for them to be incredibly gracious about the mess - a vet had an ultrasound probe on her belly and was studying the results on the screen in real time. He presented me with a couple of different options he could offer me freely (!!!) while being extremely transparent about the likely outcomes. I could hardly believe what I was hearing and quickly agreed that yes, of course we could go straight to the option that would not be too expensive for the clinic and would most likely leave Callie just fine in the end. Minutes later, he was injecting Callie with something to make her vomit while we spread out a mat to catch it. (I understand now why this is such a different process from attempting to induce vomiting in a pet at home, and why you really do have to go in for it!) Once it was clear she'd emptied her stomach's contents, he reversed her nausea with a second injection and bandaged her up. He then walked me through what to expect over the next day and week, what to worry about/look out for... and sent us on our way, at no charge, barely a half-hour after we arrived. WOW!!! That same vet, a soft-spoken Irish-sounding gentleman whose name I didn't catch, did make sure I knew this would likely be a one-time thing and that I shouldn't expect future visits to be free again, but he was SO kind about it. He was clearly not trying to make me feel bad at all, just set an expectation. I also got a follow-up text the next day to check on Callie, who was and still is doing just fine after casually having her life saved. Thank you SO MUCH to VEG Lynnwood for being a team that clearly cares about the well-being of animals over profits, and about kindly and efficiently helping folks in need. She chatted with me about what to look out for and why coming immediately was not necessary. As well as the reasons garlic and onion can be dangerous in large amounts. It reassured me greatly! After I asked a simple question, she dismissed me and hung up. All that I was doing is trying to get a vet that I can call because my Cat is going into labor, and I'm very worried. Extremely kind Vetenarian and staff. I brought my furbaby a month ago for GI issues and I was able to stay the 3 nights with him. Brittney deserves a medal for her kindness and compassion. It is pricey for their hospital stay but the care and compassion is unparalleled. I see they truly care about our babies and us. I was not disappointed, they triaged us right when we walked in and made us feel comfortable. Our dog is very anxious so we were a bit nervous, they were so good with him. My kitty Cedric found himself in a really rough spot after eating the wrong kind of grass, and getting a 6 inch blade of Sawgrass firmly embedded into the back of his nose and down his throat. He was really suffering and it was scary... The VEG team was so so amazing! Dr. Georgia and her team were super calm, and super straightforward as they helped figure out what was up with my kitty and how to manage it. They explained everything to me carefully and in detail, and they allowed me to stay with my kitty, even through the tricky bits. it ended up requiring full intubation and monitoring, but they successfully removed that demon piece of grass, and Cedric is back to his happy, feisty little self. It wasn't cheap, of course, but also was not as much as I worried it might've been. And it was absolutely worth it to get my kitty back to himself. Thank you so much VEG team! This place is absolutely amazing! My dumb butt of a cat decided to swallow ribbon one night. I called three different emergency vets until I was transferred to them and boy am I glad I was. I drove my kitty there and they were the sweetest people ever. My anxiety was at an all time high worrying about my fur baby and their positive attitudes calmed me greatly. They induced vomiting for my kitty and even though it took a minute, they didn't give up and kept trying. To my surprise, they got her to vomit and ALL the ribbon came back. I knew she'd need xrays to see if there was an obstruction and it was iffy. They offered overnight stay with fluids or administer one bag of fluids and a Cerenia injection (spendy!!) - I chose option 2 and took her home. Came back in the a.m. for follow up xrays and all was good. This business model is absolutely the very BEST. You are treated like a person and involved in every decision and your animal receives excellent care. You are not stuck in a room wondering where the doctor is and your pet is not taken away from you. The night shift was exceptional from the person who greeted and signed in the pet to the doctor and techs. Cannot recommend highly enough. read more

Our 15-year-old chihuahua mix Windy came into the ER with dangerously high glucose and we were immediately seen and admitted. The glucose levels tanked, and it was apparent that Windy was no longer responding to insulin. The doctors and staff were incredibly compassionate and tried a number of ideas. They explained options thoroughly and helped us reach our decision to finally let her go. The whole staff expressed sympathy as we went through the process and were so very gracious and caring. As much as the experience was gutting, we were treated so wonderfully. Thank you, VEG doctors, and staff. read more

When we noticed out cat breathing through his mouth at around 12 am we called this location to ask if this is an emergency. They said yes. We hurried him to the hospital, and even though we missed their call saying they were overwhelmed that night and referred us to another nearby location, when we arrived there were medical staff waiting for us with table and oxygen at the ready. They even opened the door for us and knew what this visit was about. Our cat underwent a procedure to drain fluid from around his lungs, and spent the weekend in an oxygen chamber recovering. We never felt pressured to put him to sleep or had any decisions forced on us. The chances of success were explained to us up front, and similarly the estimate for his care. Everything was done with utmost urgency and compassion. I've never been to a "human ER", but this response looked a grade above what I imagine humans go through. Everyone at the hospital was exceptional! Compassionate, and allowed us to visit our kitty as often as we needed. Even pulled out chairs for us to sit next to him. We saw other patients get treated with the same compassion. We got timely updates over the phone and text. They ran a comprehensive test panel with xrays, heart and liver ultrasound, blood work, and fluid analysis. In the end our boy was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. We don't know how much time we have left with him, but we are grateful for the care he received at VEG Lynnwood. He is currently back home, in good spirits, good energy levels, and healthy appetite. We have his medication and expect to care for him as long as it takes to increase his quality of life for what time he has remaining. We are glad we made the decision to bring him in, and to undergo the procedure that extended his life. I just want to say that during our time visiting our cat at this location we saw a lot of people come in. This is a busy, complex, and intense environment. The degree to which it is well orchestrated and managed is mind blowing. It runs like clockwork, better than any human hospital I've ever been to. The folks that work there - I can't imagine the stress, but we are sincerely grateful for you choosing to perform this necessary job with the level of commitment that you give to every patient! read more

In a word: amazing. We brought our pup here after a nasty bout of tummy troubles. Their care philosophy is open concept - you stay with your animal for their visit. Your pet isn't stressed by being separated from you, and vice versa. Everyone was incredibly kind to us and our doggo, the vet was thorough and kind, the techs were very caring and gentle even while my dog was trying to bite their fingers off. Today is two month as our special dog Mia gained her wings. We were on vacation and our puppy who was diabetic got really sick. Her caregiver called her and rushed to ER. We understood we had very little time left and it was so hard to buy to my golden girl over the phone. My daughter and her friend were in town and our baby girl waited for them. Watching as she gaining her wings was so hard. I heard how compassionate staff was and did everything they can to comfort my daughter. Mia was very special dog who came to my life 8 years ago and today I am so sad, I miss her unconditional love but I know she is in better place without needles. Mia, you are so missed. I'm back again with my dog. They told me Kimi's wound needed a change of dressing every 2 days and the 2nd day was yesterday. My daughter and I came in; it was a Sunday. We waited 2 hours before the vet lady said our wait would be 4 to 6 hours after that. So we left without it changed. The vet said if we got here early they would have more time. I got up 6:15 so I could be here early enough. They immediately told me they have an hour they take to do rounds. (So far has consisted of them talking about patients.) I had told them what the other vet said yesterday and they don't care about that. I would prefer they give me a fresh dressing and I could clean and change it at home myself... read more

What a fabulous place!! We had a very sad situation with our dog and everyone there was so very kind and attentive to our needs as well as treating our dog with tenderness and respect. After some very quick intake and testing we were told that we would need to put her down, and we were offered a private room and all the time we needed to say our goodbyes. The vet was amazing and the technicians were all so great that even this horrible situation was made to be the best it possibly could be. THANK YOU so much to everyone who works there. Today I had to do an awful thing, we found a poor sweet cat who'd been hit by a car and left to pass alone. We wanted to give him some dignity and have his body cremated but some of the places we contacted suggested throwing him out with the trash. But VEG was the light at the end of the tunnel - they took our sweet furry neighbor and now he is finally at peace. Their compassion was so reassuring and it's a great comfort to know that he was cared for, even if it was after his death. read more
