My Trouble got to stay with Matt and company this weekend! I had another last second situation that required me to head down to Orange County for Friday and Saturday. After calling several pet day care centers, we found Matt who was willing to take a 8 week old puppy. Most of the other places don't take dogs that are less than 4 months old. Our first phone conversation with Matt was enough for us to feel comfortable that our little boy will be well taken care of here. Matt is very kind and patiently explained that since it is a puppy he will be given special care and will not be allowed to socialize with other big dogs and that Matt will select our little one's playmates. Normally Matt picks up and drops off dogs from the offices nearby but since ours is a puppy we go to Matt's place and drop him off. This is the best pet care in the Bay Area. I have used all of the big companies and a few of the small guys and my dog has never been happier than when he is with pawfection. Pawfection made it possible for us to have our dog participate in our wedding. Our dog loved staying there in the days leading up to our wedding and Pawfection was super flexible and clearly cared about making our dog's experience fantastic. We are forever grateful for this and strongly recommend Pawfection. Here's the story. We live in San Francisco and *love* our dog Milton (a mini Aussie, @miltonwoof on Instagram :). I bring him to work every day and my now-wife and I dote on him like a child. Our wedding was to be held in Los Altos (near Mountain View), and we initially (and reluctantly) decided it'd just be too complex to have Milton be our ring bearer. We didn't have anyone we trusted to take care of him down there. On a whim, a few weeks before our wedding, I asked folks who lived down in the peninsula about dog day/overnight care places. One person recommended a corporate dog boarding place, but we learned that Milton would spend the night in a room (or a cage) by himself and that seemed sad to us, especially in the days surrounding our wedding. Luckily, I heard from a friend who is a true dog lover, whose girlfriend is in fact a dog trainer, and whose recommendations on dog-related things I trust a lot. He gave a glowing personal referral to Pawfection, which he uses for his own dogs. I talked to Matt (of Pawfection) on the phone and it sounded like a great fit. They accommodated our pick-up and drop-off schedule (to correspond with various wedding events) on short notice and went out of their way to make Milton comfortable. For example, other dog daycare places will just tell you that your dog played and loved it...the usual. Matt asked a couple of specific questions based on Milton's behavior that day to find out how he could make a more suitable environment for Milton to play and sleep. On the wedding day, Milton was on his best behavior as he walked down the aisle, which is proof that he was able to run and play a lot at Pawfection and feel comfortable there. This is a great small business. We accidentally found them at the dog park when we saw Matt and team playing with and taking care of a group of dogs. They were attentive and interactive with the dogs, even after already having been on their daily 5 mile walk. They obviously love dogs and even play with the other dogs at the park that aren't under their care. All the dogs respond to them. As a result we have been using Pawfection as our preferred provider of dog sitting and boarding for our rambunctious puppy (who is happy to see them wherever we meet them for a day out or an overnight stay) Would happily recommend to anyone, as long as it doesn't mean Matt loses capacity for our dog. ;-) read more

Matt's service was highly recommended by our dog trainer. The first day we brought our 6 month old boxer, we were nervous leaving her with a stranger for the first time. Our worries were quickly alleviated when he sent us via text a video of her playing with the other dogs. We know our little girl loves her time at Pawfection or as we call it "puppy camp." When we drop our dog off she runs up to greet the staff and Matt's dog Hazel. When we pick her up, while she is happy to see us, she doesn't want to stop playing. Both my pup and I love pawfection! My puppy, Luna, a golden retriever, started daycare with Matt when she was only 9 weeks old. Most doggy daycares don't accept puppies under the age of 12 weeks. But Matt scrubbed a section of his place for luna and had it cleaned so that Luna could start that early without risk of infection. She always loved going to Pawfection and got so excited when he came to pick her up. I even boarded Luna at Pawfection for a few days, a couple of times, knowing that she was always safe and happy with him. The other thing I love about Pawfection is that Matt spends time with the doggy parents as well :) He always made it a point to send pictures and videos during the day so you know how your baby was doing! When Luna was still going through potty training, Matt would often give me tips on how to make it easier. And when Luna got a little older, Matt worked with me to create a schedule that was a mixture of daycare sessions and hour play sessions. He was very patient with my ever changing schedule. Now that I live a little further out of Matt's serving area, Luna doesnt go to play sessions or daycare at Pawfection anymore. But he is still the first person I think of for any boarding needs. We lived in Half Moon Bay and had an amazing option for dog care, but when we moved back over the hill, we felt stuck. A friend recommended Matt, and we are so glad she did. Our dog (El Chapo) is small (15 lbs), and we always worry about him in a big group of large dogs. We met Matt at the dog park to check out how he manages things. I was very impressed that all of the Pawfection Team is so attentive to the dogs. They do not just hanging out and entertain themselves on their smart phones. They interact with the dogs, intervene when needed, and clean up as soon as anyone does their business. They really get to know each dog and their quirks and personalities to ensure everyone stays safe and happy. Chapo immediately bonded with Matt, and we know that Matt has his back. We signed up for daycare 4 days a week. Matt (or one of his team members) comes to pick up Chapo between 8:30-10am, and drops him back off between 2:30-4pm. Day care consists of an on-leash hike, followed by off leash romps at Mitchell Park in Palo Alto. We get pictures or texts a couple times a day, and feel completely comfortable that Chapo is in good hands. Matt has a house key for us, which shows how reliable and trustworthy he is. We are moving to Sunnyvale in May, which is heartbreaking because Pawfection doesn't service that area. So we are on the hunt for a new solution -- but the good news for you means that he will have an open slot! P.S. I had to click on 'gender neutral restrooms' since their customers are DOGS and go anywhere they please. LOL. read more

We sent our 65 lb, 1.5 year old, very active/playful pup to Pawfection for several months, and the only reason we stopped is because we moved out of their service area. Matt took care of our dog Max for a week while we were away. Since we had somebody to cover the evenings and mornings, Matt offered to take Max for the majority of the daytime hours so Max would not be so bored home alone all day long. Matt was great, he did both pick up and drop off so I didn't have to worry about anything while we were away. May be very good for wearing out the dogs during the day, but I found out my dog was left unsupervised with the other dogs there. When we arrived home he had puncture wounds where another dog had bitten him too hard- it developed into an infected abscess and an expensive vet bill. We won't be going back. read more

We started working with Matt after our son was born, a very stressful and rough time. We had a Newfie puppy and due to my fiance injuring his ankle, we couldn't get Tank (the puppy) enough daily exercise which caused a lot of issues. After sending out a hundred emails to many different "doggy daycares" around the bay, Matt was the first and only one to get back to me. We live out of his pick-up area, but he was understanding and offered to make an arrangement to make it work. We had Tank in daycare with him for over six months, sometimes up to 4x a week! He LOVED it...he could tell the very second we pulled onto Matt's street and would come back completely exhausted! He made tons of doggy friends and was able to learn dog manners as well, which every puppy owner knows is super important. Matt is a firm but loving guy and also a dog owner himself, so he wasn't afraid to correct when necessary which we really appreciated. Tank very quickly learned to behave himself and respect people and their boundaries. Matt was always available by phone or through email, sending us videos throughout the day of our dog playing with the others. He would always let us know if there was anything that happened while Tank was at his house, or anything that he thought we should know. We even trusted him to watch Tank while we went away twice on vacation...he was one tired pup once we brought him home. Now that things are much better organization wise and the baby is older, we no longer take our dog to Matt's daycare. However, he will always be the first person I contact if I need boarding for Tank while we are away or if I ever decide to go back to taking Tank to a daycare.
