If you're riding down Highway 17 through Pawleys Island and haven't stopped at Pawleys Island Bakery yet, go ahead and fix that. I've been meaning to swing by for a while and finally made it happen this morning. I called my order in ahead of time so it would be ready for pickup, and everything was smooth from the start. They've got plenty of parking -- a nice, big, clean lot that makes it easy to get in and out without fighting traffic. When you walk inside, it's a cute, welcoming space with a counter full of beautiful desserts and baked goods. Even though I had already ordered, it was hard not to stand there and admire everything in the case. I went with a bacon, egg, and cheese on a hard roll -- and it was better than I expected. Large, fresh, and clearly made with top-notch ingredients. One of those breakfast sandwiches that feels like it was done right, not rushed. You can taste the quality. The staff member on duty was polite and genuinely hospitality-minded. It didn't feel like a quick transaction. After handing over my order, there was a mention that cakes were being baked in the back and that normally there would be more cakes in the case -- just letting me know more items were coming out. That kind of small detail says a lot about customer service. It felt thoughtful and welcoming. They had three coffee options today: cinnamon bun, pecan, and Kona. I went with the plain Kona, and it was a great cup of coffee -- smooth and flavorful. My only "complaint"? I wish the cup was just a little bigger. All in all, Pawleys Island Bakery delivered a solid breakfast experience -- good food, good coffee, and good hospitality. I'll definitely be back to try some of those cakes next time. read more

Pawleys Island Bakery is a cute little bakery in a small shopping strip. A friend of ours recommended we try it, and we are very happy we did. They have breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches, soups and breads. But, the reason we went was for the desserts and pastries. They had lots of choices in their display cabinets up front. My wife and I usually come here on Sunday mornings and split a Bacon, Egg & Cheese Bagel before enjoying a day on the beach. It's best to call ahead of you are ordering a hot breakfast item because the line can get a little long. The make a top notch breakfast bagel with good quality bacon and a white cheese. I've no clue how long it has existed but I do know that despite the fact that my family has been going to Pawley's Island for over 25 years we only noticed it 7-8 years ago (and only then because my wife spotted it as we were turning off the causeway north on 17). Although it has potentially the single most generic looking sign and space the food is nothing short of fantastic. We have been twice for lunch and I remember liking the meatloaf sandwich but the sweets and breads are the big deal here. My wife loves the linzer torte, the cookies n' cream bars, the s'mores cookies, the pan au chocolat,, the Bismarcks and the eclairs, my mother loves the oatmeal raisin and blueberry lemon cookies. My dad and father-in-law both love the sticky buns, bear claws and apple turnovers and I am huge fan of butter cake. The prices are super reasonable, the selection is great and the folks are friendly. Two quick things though: 1. No one has been wearing masks the past two times I've been (last week and in late April) 2. They close between 1 and 3 in the afternoon and do tend to sometimes run low on stock towards the end of their day. read more

I really like this place but I want to love it. In the past month I have gone 4 straight times before 9 am and they are sold out of chocolate iced doughnuts and aren't making more. I've owned a successful business for 41 years and if something sells quickly I increase the amount until I find the sweet spot. If I sell out one dozen then I'll make two and so on. Otherwise the rest of the baked goods are good but I want doughnuts and the kids and grandkids want doughnuts so we went someplace else where we could find them. The ugly sign caught my eye. "BAKERY" in all caps but something in my heart (or sweet tooth) told me to check it out. I stepped into the small shop and felt welcome as everyone was smiling, employees and customers. It has a nice comfy feeling with coffee urn and tea bar on your right. In front extending down the left is a huge case of all the bakery items you could dream of. Cookies, cupcakes, cakes, breads, pastries, and more. The adorable "cookie monsters" caught my eye... 2 cookies glued together with creamy icing. I purchased a huge red velvet cupcake after asking the sweet teen helping me what she prefers of the cupcakes. For only $2.00 I was happy! I picked up a chocolate coconut macaron for 60 cents too. The macaron was delicious. Perfectly sweet and the dark chocolate was dipped halfway. The red velvet cupcake was really big, with cream cheese icing! I'll definitely be back to try their sandwiches and other pastries. The seating inside is limited but quite nice for an afternoon meal and treat. This is not a comment on the quality of the baked goods. They are excellent. However DO NOT GO if you are at high risk for corvid19 or are concerned about getting it. The counter woman had a mask. The owner and two other employees had no masks, brushed up against patrons in the small shop, and showed no coronavirus awareness. As I endlessly dodged out of their way, even having to briefly leave, I then re-entered. An employee without mask immediately brushed up against me on his way to get himself a soda. It is establishments such as Pawley's Island Bakery that are responsible for the doubling of coronavirus cases every few days here in Pawley's Island and Georgetown County. Perhaps the owners and employees are making some sort of political statement but DO NOT go if you have any coronavirus risk factors. read more

Stopped in here on my way home from spending the day exploring Pawleys Island for a sandwich & coffee over the late summer. This little shop is conveniently located on 17S at Waverly Rd. Perfect parking right outside the door. I abstained from any cakes or pastries but they looked very very good. Next time I'm in the area I will give them a try. The staff here are super friendly & helpful. I had a chicken salad sandwich & coffee. It was ok. I was really really hungry & decided to just eat in here prior to going home. The coffee was pre made in a canister where you help yourself. This place is perfect if you want to pass on the numerous fast food joints all around the area & support a local business. It is about time there was a bakery like this at the beach. This place is the stuff that dreams are made of. Located just past the Hammock and Island Shops in Pawleys Island. If you are within a 30 mile radius of this place, you have to try it. I went in on a Sunday morning and bought a whole delicious sampling. 1. Croissants- I say it in my profile. I LOVE a GOOD Croissant. These were buttery, flaky, light, just perfect. 2. Cinnamon Roll- buttery and flaky pastry dough, and then sweet and cinnamony on the inside with that yummy icing drizzled on top. 3. Chocolate Croissant- So good. So good. See description for Croissant. Add Chocolate. 4. Cookies- I picked up a chocolate chip, white chocolate macadamia, white chocolate cherry. All of them were good. 5. Cheddar biscuit- Homemade style, except so much larger! The chunks of cheese in it were so perfect. They did not overwhelm the taste of the biscuit, but were rather a perfect compliment. 6.Lemon square- this was the only thing I did not love. It was good, but I am not sure if it was the crust or if it was the filling that I did not love. 7. Marble Sponge Mousse Cake- To die for. Amazing. The cake was so incredible and moist, and the mousse fillings were heavenly. The chocolate ganache on top was a crowning jewel. I know I will get this every time I go back. 8. Cinnamon Roll with Carmel pecan topping- I bought this one for my parents, and they seemed to enjoy it. It did not last very long at all. Not only did they have all of the goodies that I sampled, but they also had bagels, cakes, pies, cupcakes, assorted breakfast pastries, muffins, artisan breads, etc. I cannot wait to go back and try more. Can I express how good everything was? I bought all of that on Sunday Morning around 7:30AM. It was all gone by Monday at 6:30AM. The staff at the bakery were very friendly and helpful. They have a few small tables inside so that you can eat in if you choose. They also do lunch, just sandwiches and salads- but if it is served on those homemade breads and tastes half as good as the stuff I bought, I bet they are out of this world. read more

I probably wouldn't go out of my way for but is a solid option when in the area.
