Before I start, THIS IS NOT ABOUT MONEY. Pawville has changed, but necessarily for the better. New owners mean new rules, which is fine, but their communication is seriously lacking. After dealing with this place for well over a year, I've learned that you must ask the staff questions (and lots of them) to find out exactly what is included and what isn't when you pay for boarding and/or daycare. That might sound like an obvious statement, and we asked several questions when we first started bringing our dog here based on previous experiences. But when customers deal with a business for a while, they get used to the service. So, when the business decides to make some pretty significant changes to that service, is a customer being unreasonable for asking those changes to be communicated the next time they call in? According to Pawville, the answer is YES. My issue was that boarded dogs get barely any playtime now unless you pay extra. I didn't know this when we took him in. I only found out when I was picking him up because I overheard another customer discussing the same issue with the front desk associate. I'll add that we have no problem paying the extra fee. My issue is that this was not communicated to me, and as a result, our dog ended up being locked away in a room with little playtime for three days. When I talked to the manager later (Kat), she stated that daycare had been included previously with boarding because she was trying to keep customers. This is why I thought it was included in our fee. Then, she apologized and offered two free half-days of daycare. That would have been great if she hadn't followed up her apology by repeatedly insinuating it was my fault for not reading their website closely enough (we called to make the reservation, so we didn't see anything they posted at the front desk) I checked, and they do mention the change on the homepage. However, they don't explain how little "complimentary playtime" actually is. To save you the effort, I'll tell you: 15-30 minutes a day. For a business that probably relies on repeat customers, Pawville's business strategy is pretty lousy. They have lots of 5-star reviews--for now--but if this is how they operate, that will change. read more

Please consider passing this place up. While they have signs plastered on to their building at the entrance that they were the top dog kennel in 2020 and 2021 that is a load of BS. Initially I needed a replacement kennel when I came down for vacation and I called the local vet in Pawleys Island & whoever answered the phone told me to consider going to Benji's bed and breakfast where they ripped me off. They have quite a scheme going in there and I truly believe the elderly owner is a bit off and so is her assistant and the rest of the workers. The rest of the workers I suspect are afraid of her. The owner states in her business statement here on Yelp that she was a psychiatric nurse and do you know what she did? She went right up in my face and was screaming at me and I was afraid she was going to strike me! There was not enough causation for her to do what she did and I ended up calling the police and filing a report for my safety. They quote you a price and then they change it when you go to pick your dogs up. The change is dramatic and then they sit there and act like they never said thus and such! My credit card was grabbed off of me by her assistant and quickly charged as I'm standing there trying to plead my case that this was not the price I was told. So, they have their money, my bank is in on it for fraud, and the Better Business Bureau in that area knows all about them. I think it's time for the owner to retire. I am really and truly trying to be understanding and nice by warning others and the dangerous monetary game they are playing! Can't say I didn't try to warn you all out there! Oh, and by the way when I called the veterinarian back to let them know what happened to me down there, the girl that answered the phone said well we think something strange is going on over there for some time now and I'm going to find out who told you to go there from our boarding area and I'm going to alert all the rest of the staff. She was very apologetic and genuine. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE. They made my labradoodle 10x more matted and charged me $80 for an awful job. When I picked her up after get 2 hours of grooming she still had sleep in her eyes... and her haircut looked like someone had taken scissors and gone to town on her. My poor baby. We took our dogs to be boarded for a week. Went on vacation. During our vacation we called to check on our dogs. We were told they were doing fine. We finished our vacation and proceeded to pick up our dogs. Our male dog was fine but our female dog was limping, nothing was said about our girls issue. Upon arriving home we looked at her hind leg she had a pus filled lesion between her toes. We nursed her for a few days putting antibiotics on her pads. After a few days her foot swelled to twice the size of the others. She began to get lethargic and started to actually chew and lick her foot to a point her tounge started to bleed. We took her to our vet he said she had some sort of infection. Never again will we use this establishment to board our dogs and suggest any one else to consider looking elsewhere. read more

My sister and I are going to need to board our dogs again, my first time here was great. Another time we had to board our dogs and my dog needed a grooming. There were hidden costs, the grooming was horrible and the last several times the staff is has not been friendly. We have found another place to try that has 5 stars. read more

We board our dog here regualarly...he loves it! It's a fit for a dog like ours who is very social. They are very accommodating... letting me pop in and get him for the beach for a few hours without notice. At the end of his stay, we get him groomed and find him lovely on pick up. They have won the local awards for best kennels for that last few years. We find it convenient location wise and plan to continue to use it. read more

We have been there several times for grooming and boarding- never felt welcome, staff seems unconcerned. We boarded our two dogs recently for a week. They seem to have done a fine job, but they don't give a complimentary bath (with a week stay many places do) and they charged us for a day of daycare because on the last day we couldn't get them early enough (again, something many places comp.) The price exceeds the service. We have had our dogs groomed there twice. Both times they did an ok job, but as I stated above, the staff isn't welcoming. Also, when I picked up the dogs(a standard poodle and poodle mix) once the staff told me they didn't know which dog was which, so they just cut both their coats short. They had our contact info, why not call. Due to the price and service, go elsewhere. read more

Wouldn't go back. Tried this dog B&B to board my parents two dogs while we were all on vacation in Pawley's. Beautiful facility, but definitely some issues to be addressed. First off, a stoner kid sits up front vaping the entire time I was checking in. I think she said her name was Nicole. She looked baked. That's simply NOT professional. Secondly, a small dog was growling and snapping at our dogs when we entered the front door. Apparently it's the owner's dog. Taking your dog to a pet boarding facility should not mean your dog enters the building and then gets bit by the owner's dog. On the positive end, I did speak with a couple staff members from the back. Both were wonderful! I will say that. One was a man, tall and handsome, very sweet. The other was a cute blonde woman, who seemed great with our dogs, so I do appreciate the people in the back working with the dogs. But, I can't get past the stoner kid up front, vaping the entire time and the angry dog that almost bit our dogs. Unacceptable. read more

This place was recommended by a local inn manager. I called them in advance to say that my dog is not accustomed to being boarded, has anxiety and is recovering from ACL surgery. I wanted to make sure that she would get personalized treatment. They seemed very nice and helpful on the phone. I dropped my dog off for two nights. The front desk girl took down all my instructions (no running or jumping, leash walks only, one bone a day, etc.) Today, I picked her up. My daughter was handed her bed and the dog while I paid. The bed was soaked with urine. My dog was also wet and stunk. Her legs and chest were wet. I asked why. They were like she just walked through a puddle. Uh, no... I asked to see where she stayed. No one could tell me why my dog was covered in urine. They asked if we could come back in a hour so they could bathe her. We said no because we had a four hour drive. A woman said "I don't want to give her to you in this condition, so let me bathe her. " She did so quickly while we waited. I did learn that they are closed from 7pm to 7am. That's too long for a small dog to go without being taken out. I still don't understand why no one noticed she was covered in pee and why no one cleaned her up or fixed the nasty living conditions. read more

We led ft our lab for two nights, provided his own food, and he stayed with us during the day on Saturday. We picked him up after church on Easter Sunday at 12:30. Our bill was $82.00. The charges were 35.00 per night and we got hit with a $12.00 fine for not having our pet picked up by noon. We had never been told he had to get picked up by a certain time, only that he had to be back in the afternoons by 6. And as stated above, we left food for him and when ee picked him up, only half of it had been used. I have no idea if they fed him as instructed or not...does not seem to me that they did. I will not use them again. Hear too many good things about Coastal Kennels to deal with underhanded charging and neglect of pet. read more

We have been boarding our Black Lab at Benji's for the past couple years. The price has always been $30 per day. Upon returning yesterday from an eight day vacation we were told that the price has gone up to $45 per day and we were handed a bill for $387.00. We were never notified of the price increase, nor were we told the new price when we dropped off our dog. There is just something dishonest about this. We will never go back to Benji's. read more

Worse grooming experience I've ever had. Long story short the groomer did the opposite of what I asked for and basically ruined the coat of my Pomeranian. The owner was uncaring and rude. She also refused to reverse the charges on my credit card, which they asked for payment before they brought him out. I would not recommend anyone to use this business. read more

We used Benji's to board our small dog Gracie for 4 days during our wedding weekend. She has high anxiety so we wanted the most private room possible. We made the reservation early in October for the presidential suite and was told we could have this suite for $40/night. A couple of days before drop-off I called to confirm and was told that this suite was now $100/night. We were having my father in law pick her up since we would be on our honeymoon. We prepaid so that he didn't have to. We prepaid for boarding and an exit bath - an extra $20. They told us check-out was at 12pm. My FIL arrived to pick her up at 11:35a. When he got her, her paws were stained yellow and she had dried poop stuck to her butt. When the staff was questioned about this, we were told that since we picked her up early they didn't have time to bathe her and they would have see what they could do about being refunded for the bath fee. Just how long was she standing in her own pee LITERALLY?!!! I'm not sure if the management has changed or what but we will not return. read more

My 9 year old dachshund was boarded for week. They wouldn't let me bring a blanket, or any other comforts from home. He was extremely skinny, and his nose was skinned( I suspect he was muzzled for barking) I would have expected that the facility call me if he wouldn't eat, and was barking so badly that he had to be muzzled.( I cant prove it, but there is no explanation for his nose to have a sore on it, at least they didn't inform us when my son picked him up. I would have picked him up. I absolutely hate boarding him anywhere, and only had to when my sitter cancelled at the last minute. This is proof why I wont trust this or other boarding facilities again. They just dont care enough about your pets. Any $20.00 for a bath for a 11 pound dachshund is ridiculous!!! read more

I hate to give a bad review, but this one is well merited. We took our dog here a couple years ago and had a decent experience. This year, we decided to board him again at Benji's while we were vacationing on Pawley's Island so we'd be close by. They charge $2 for each medication administered (we just put his meds in his kibble), and over the course of a week it really adds up. So we opted to just swing over and give it to him ourselves while we were out and about each day. We visited him after his first overnight stay and he had his poop crusted to his rear. I can't figure out why it was just left there or how it would get so mangled in his fur. I tried cleaning him up as best I could with some water and a paper towel before leaving and just let it go without complaining about it. Halfway through the week, they called my secondary backup emergency number (my father's cell), which was very alarming! I was terrified he had been mauled by another dog or something. Turned out that whoever was feeding him his pre-portioned baggies of dog food was giving him 2 bags a day rather than just one, as was specified and recorded when I dropped him off. We'd been really working on getting him to lose some weight and here he was being served double portions. It was "your dog is out of food...what should we do". Apparently they charge $5 a day for food. My husband was the one to pick him up so I'm not sure if they even attempted to request payment for that. At $40 a night, you think they would be able to follow the instructions. On the morning of our departure, my husband went to pick up our dog. He got there first thing so we could get on the road as soon as I finished packing our things at the beach house. I usually clip my dog's nails and he was due for it, so I thought I'd make it a little easier on myself and just have them do it for $10. We were charged for the service but when I checked him not a single nail had been clipped. My husband said it was marked as done. Of course, we then had to take him back to get a refund on that charge. I had had enough and just wanted the refund by my husband, wanting to make things easier on me, allowed them to quickly take care of it. Unfortunately, they snipped at least 2 of his quicks. After the second bloody mess, my husband requested they stop and just refund the money for it. And finally, after we got home from our trip I immediately gave him a bath. As I was drying him, I noticed his skin on his inner rear thighs had a red rash of what looked like bug bites...they were raised bumps. I contacted my vet the next morning, who suspects it to be a staff infection and prescribed an antibiotic for 14 days to get it cleared up. So there you have it. Board at your own risk. :( read more

My two dogs stayed three nights a few weeks ago. 500$ later they both have skin infections and are on antibiotics; one on steroids. One dog also developed an ear infection. They are 4 and 8 and NEVER had a vet bill or any infection of any kind on their skin! Never will I stay here again. If I could give a lower rating I would. read more

Wouldn't allow tour of facility or our reserved Big Kennel/Pen. 4. Front desk staff aren't very friendly. They need a huge overhaul of training to Admin, Groomers, Dog Attendants. Here on Yelp they state they are 5 star...according to whose review?! They'll state one thing over the phone then change their mind when you get there. I've been a customer for quite a few years. The quality of service has really gone down recently. I can't pinpoint it because I lost my baby, waited a year and adopted a new baby. I recommended Benji's to friends who were disappointed but I didn't understand why until recently. Their prices are relatively high but with good service, would be worth it and was worth it. It seems that greed has gotten in the way. The concept of what they are is great; play yards, on site grooming, cute hotel-for-dogs theme facility, and most importantly web-cams, insuring transparency, no secrets, above board care. The reality is the play yards are in need of updating/cleaning. The whole facility is showing its age and in need of some serious updating. The grooming is terrible. I've always had grooming before pick-up because after days of playing hard, my baby smells like a dog. Recently, my baby has still smelled like a dog, when I picked him up. Giving a dog a good bath is not rocket science. It takes just as long to give a bad bath as it does to give a good bath. Evidently the owner is trying to cut corners by paying less to uninspired employees. The crew there used to be energetic, impressive dog lovers. Now, they are just employees. I was a retail owner for 28 years and I recognize when businesses try to skimp and end up with employees that reflect negatively on a business. The fact that they have web cams says, "I am taking good care of your baby and I want you to see a happy baby in a good, clean, no-secrets environment. The fact that they don't work (as well as a lot of things around there) means just the opposite. The most important selling feature that they have, in this hi tech world is the web-cams. The staff has excuses from the kind of computer I'm using to them having reception/computer problems. Even though I provided my own food and feeding instructions, my baby was terribly constipated for 2 days. If he had actually received his own food, plus the added exercise, this would not have happened. I do not believe that he was receiving his own food. This last time I took him, he pulled back to the car the way he does at the vet's office. Something is not like it used to be. I will not return nor recommend to anyone else until I hear that some changes have been made. Maybe they aren't interested in locals and want to focus on tourists, who don't have to be repeat customers. It's a shame that something that started out so good has become so bad. If I wasn't "over-the-hill-retired" I would open my own. It's a great concept and eventually someone will come along and do it the way this one started out. read more

Worst place I have ever taken my dogs in South Carolina. DO Not use this kennel. My dogs were returned to me with yellow caked urine all over them. They do not pee on each other, they are both females. They have also doubled their rates. The staff at this place is mediocre at best. If you love your pets, keep them away from this place. I brought my pittbull boxer mix here over the summer and it ruined my vacation. I started my vacation with calling around to see if any pet boarding had the ability to be a temporary care taker of my sweet dog named Romeo. He's an inside dog, basically a big house cat. Anytime an aggressive dog would lunge at him at the dog park he would just freeze in fright. He's a big silly dog who would hurt a fly. But the second time I came to see him he was covered in what looked like dirty lake water. Once the two of us returned from the beach the owner was there and boy was she scary. I walked in on her screaming at dogs. When I was walking Romeo back, on a leash, she let two bull dogs out after getting groomed. The larger male attacked Romeo when he sniffed his butt. She starter screaming at Romeo "lock that dog up" as if he was a convict. I will never board any of my pets here again and I would save Benjis bed and breakfast for your last resort. Like the world is on fire and the only safe refuge is with the senile old lady's place called Benjis bed and breakfast. read more

BORDATELLA/KENNEL COUGH OUTBREAK!!!!!! They do not tell customers about infectious disease outbreaks in the kennel. I'm amending my previous review to alert people of Serious health concerns. High prices and low quality service!! Don't care about customers or our animals. They don't watch after animals they lose dogs from their property. Manager? Evette is RUDE and condescending. Our neighbor called and spoke with Evette A few days ago to let her know that their dog came home from Benji's with kennel cough. Evette's response was thank you for letting us know I'll look into it. It was obvious she did not care if. Our neighbor asked us to post this review for them. Then, At dinner last evening We told friends about it and they said "oh no our dog is there right now we just dropped him off this morning and they never mentioned anything about kennel cough". Beware! Unfortunately we were taking our large breed dog to Benjis each time we travelled out of town. After talking to neighbors and others we heard all negative experiences from them... Some quite horrifying! I learnt that my dog was not the only dog to come home with digestive issues... EACH time! I went in and asked to be shown the room my dog slept in and was very disturbed to see how small it was (she could barely turn around in it and had NO door to access the outside!). Even more disturbing was learning that she was only let out for short periods of time! Their local commercial and advertising is so misleading, I truly feel bad for owners and dogs who fell for their scam as I did. Also each time we took our dog in, there were always different staff. I had been boarding my Labradoodle at this facility for the past few years, usually without incident; however after my experience today, I will never return to Benji's again and will not recommend this place to anyone I know! I had plans to travel out of state for the Thanksgiving holiday. As I usually do, I called and reserved my dog a spot for the duration. My dog had recently been diagnosed with a seizure disorder and was put on medication. The staff person I spoke with assured me medication would be administered as per prescribed by the vet. I dropped her off, with the medication and enough food. When I returned to pick her up today, I was hit with an enormous bill!!! I was told that they had increased their prices (after the fact? When I pick up my dog????) from $30/night to $45/night, and something about 'based on her weight'...blah blah blah. I was also charged $2/day for medication administering, FOR SIX DAYS!!! She was only supposed to get the meds at night, but apparently they dosed her earlier this morning as well as last night!!! When I confronted the owner about the price increase, she just blew it off, and discarded my complaint. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!! Not only do they not care about over-charging, they don't care about OVER-DOSING EITHER!!! read more

Our family rented a beach house in Myrtle that was not dog friendly, so we decided to board our 7 month old Bulldog at Benjis for the week. He had not been away from us for more than a day, so we were naturally worried. Our hope was that he would play with dogs all week and ware himself out so he wouldn't miss us. One day in we decided to look for him on the yard cam and we saw him outside by himself. When we saw him outside AGAIN by himself, we called and asked why. The lady who answered told us he got aggressive in his play group and did a "stand off" with another dog. Our dog has never showed any aggression so I became worried. We visited the next day and spoke to the manager who told us that it was the other way around- the other dog didn't like how wiggly and happy he was and got aggressive towards him. I asked that they please put him with a big dog group because they would run fast and he would never catch them, but he would love it and tire himself out. Well a whole week went by and my dog was in solitary confinement the whole time. This place loves their locals and little dogs (they breed Dachshunds) but they did not seem concerned with my dog. He was literally crying when we picked him up, he had poop all over his butt, had gotten conjunctivitis in his eye, and his scrotum was peeling from sitting on hot pavement. Take your $250 and hire someone to watch your dog at home. read more

As a vet tech new to the area I made a decision to apply here to be close to the animals before returning to work full time. I witnessed animlas being medicated withOUT the owners consent, that the animals where let out for very short periods of time instead of the lounging time they claim, the food to be watered down (even if you bring your own) and the owner to be repulsive as well as dishonest. No doubt she will reply with disgruntled fired employee etc, and I don't care. my FIRST concern is the one she should have- the ANIMALS. This owner has the kennel to support her own breeding service and to house her 26 +/- dogs who are kept in cramped kennels (some as many as 14 to one 3ftx3ft "suite" . these are the facts so before you leave your pet here ask to tour the facility and ignore the huge pool table "lounge" because the animals are NOT allowed to lounge there. Also give expressed instructions that your pet is not to be given benadryl, metronitazole, peptomismol or ANY other drug with out your permission, also request NO water be added to your pets food as it does not entice them to eat but rather deters it. Personally I would trust any stranger before I trusted this place with my pets, but thats only one opinion - please read other reviews on other pages. read more

I cant and wont recommend this place to anyone, 1. we took our beagle , and they told us that it would be 30.00 per day,, that price went up to 40 per day, on the day we pick him up. they charge for feeding your dog, , and no complimentary bath was given, they asked us would you like a bath given to your dog and my husband said yes, and I spoke up and said how much and they said 25.00 dollars, for only a bath, and don't forget we only board our dog for one day, and since we couldn't pick him up by noon we was charge, for another half a day, when we pick up our dog, he must of rolled in something, because he stank, but I remember , I put him in the back seat and drove home with the windows all the way down except in the back seat, I had those windows half way rolled down, just a reminder, if you forgo the bath, please bring some baby powder, or wipes with you, because your dog will smell. but I wasn't going to pay 25.00 for a dollar worth or soap.. I saw the commercial on tv, those commercial show a happy place, I would be happy too, If I was charging someone a arm and a leg. by the time it was all said and done, one day of doggy care, plus food, plus charging us a half day, it was over 60.00 I told my husband if we cant find a place to board him, we are going to take him with us, most places except dogs as long as they are crated if you leave your room.. I found out the hotel we stayed at excepts pets, so from now on, I would rather take the pup with us, also, I found out that some outside cafe's except pups to be on the patio. we went to Charleston, and one restaurant had a sign on their out side patio that said pets are welcome, so now we know, we and the dog would of been much happier. I wouldn't recommend this place to a dog.... we wont be ever coming back, once was enough. read more

BEWARE CONSUMERS! If you really love your fur babies DO NOT TAKE THEM HERE!! Please read all the reviews and take to heart these customers are being honest and sincere about their experiences with this business. First and foremost the owners of the business are dishonest with the way the dogs are handled. Upon tour of the facility based on high interest in the commercial we found that yes, they do have multiple play yards but on our visit there was a large group of dogs all stuck in one. They show the nice rooms with TVs and all the fun stuff in the commercial but what you don't see unless you tour the facility is the kennel areas. How SAD. It was like a prison :( It was heart breaking to see the sadness in those babies eyes as they just laid there with no attention in cages with blankets thrown on the ground. It smelt like urine so bad I left with a headache.We were told we were not allowed to bring our own bedding and toys because they were concerned about it being destroyed. ??? How is that possible if they are locked up in a cage by themselves was my first thought. I feel if your pet is going to be somewhere new and not at home they should be able to have the belongings that are going to make their stay more comfortable, not the ratty holey rags we seen used. After discussing my concerns with family who live here locally I was informed of the amount of turnovers in staff. I investigated this and found MULTIPLE listings in craigslist almost on a daily basis. Makes you wonder why don't it? The "manager" informed us of a price change to accommodate the amount of workers they need to provide care for the cap of dogs they are taking in. We seen 2 handlers for A LOT of dogs. It was at that point I decided to take my babies to A Dogs Way Inn, just up the road a few miles and very well worth the decision. upon the sales pitch from the woman at Benji's I felt I was being manipulated into believing a bunch of BS. The girl at the desk was un-personable and kind of rude when we asked questions. The owner is an old lady who did not smile like she does in the commercial and come to find out a majority of the dogs running around the facility are hers so why would they need to increase the rates to accomodate good care for paying customers? They do have a nice selection of supplies but that is about the only positive review this place gets. My recommendation is go somewhere else for the safety and ease of mind when you need to board your babies. This place is a joke in sheep's clothing. read more
