I waited a while before I left this review because I'm very picky about my dog and where he stays when I'm not around to care for him. With that being said, I'm VERY happy with paws & Recs and the care that they provide for my baby while I'm away. He's been a total of 3 times and I am happy when he's there. Here are the pros: - SUPER spacious!!! I loveeeee the amount of room that there is for the dogs to run and play all day long including the back yard area. - They do really nice things for the dogs such as pool days when the weather is super hot. - My baby always comes back in a great mood and exhausted! He gets so much exercise and mental stimulation during the day. - You can get updates on how your dig is doing during the day by reaching out to Jenny or checking their Instagram stories. This makes me so happy as they regularly update their daily activities. - Lots of treats and water for the dogs during the day. - Staff informs you of their day at pick up :) You can tell they really care about your dog. - They have extended care hours if requested for reasonable pricing. - Super organized with cubbies for your dogs belongings so no mix ups there I highly recommend and we'll be back! read more

Paws & Rec has been so wonderful to work with! They were recommended by my veterinarian who also uses their service for her dogs. What I love about Paws & Rec is that they pickup the dogs for a full two hours. Your dog gets experience walking with their "pack" and makes other doggy friends they'll see consistently. They get a ton of off leash time in one of the various dog runs in the area. On each walk, they'll sometimes visit up to 3 different parks. Jenny was very easy to work with and setup a meet and greet with Jeffrey (my 4month old Goldendoodle) and her son Christian. My walker, Stan, is SO professional and awesome. He updates his Instagram with photos and an insta story during every walk so you can see footage of your baby running around and playing. It's awesome! During Jeffrey's first walk, we had a mini crisis with a faulty apartment key (my fault). Jenny and Stan were super professional, and brought Jeffrey to a nearby Paws & Rec sitter's house until I could run from work to pick him up. I was so thankful Jeffrey was in safe hands! They didn't even charge me for all their extra effort. I really couldn't recommend Paws & Rec more. Paws & Rec makes me and Jazzy feel like part of the family, the staff and owner Jenny are welcoming and attentive to Jazzy and that means the world to me. The facility is spacious and clean and the staff genuinely loves the dogs. I'm truly grateful that I found Paws and Rec., there are so many more great things I can write but the greatest thing I will say is that if you are looking for a place that you will feel safe and secure knowing that when you leave/drop off your best friends and that they're being loved and well taken care of then it's definitely PAWS & REC!!!! read more

Paws and Rec is our go-to for pet sitting and boarding. Our Dusky comes home calm and ready for a long nap! When our pup spends the night, I know that he isn't crated and a human is with him all night, just like at home. The facility smells fresh and has a back yard for the pups as well as different spaces for the dogs to be. We no longer need to drive to Williamsburg for boarding. This has been such a find. I was already thrilled about Paws and Rec before I discovered their grooming service. My pup is very sensitive and doesn't like humans to groom him. I don't know how they worked their magic, but Dusky's gnarled hair was gone when he completed his spa day. I had a smiling clean pup that smelled fresh and felt so soft! read more

We have been clients of Paws & Rec for pack walks and boarding for the last two years. Our Buddy is an athletic and active dog, so the pack walks have been a godsent to keeping him active and happy since we both work and can't walk him as often as he needs during the day. The walkers are very friendly and super reliable. Buddy can be reactive and they handle him so well. Buddy always comes back happy from boarding. I've been using Paws and Rec for 10 years. They are very conscientious and I get texts or calls if my dog has diarrhea or some other health issue. If for some reason my dog isn't at home when they come to pick her up, I'll get a text about that as well. And, they will offer to come back for her if we were just at the groomer or the vet for longer than expected. Dog walking in the city, I would say, is the most cumbersome difference from the suburbs when raising a happy four-legged child. The necessity of actually having to go out with them on a pee schedule instead of letting them out in a yard, is not easy. Especially if they have a bundle of energy. For the first few months of my pups' lives, either I or my partner was able to stay at home because our schedules coincided well. Once they were big enough we started taking them to the dog parks pretty regularly or on longer walks, and I would very often seen one, if not two or three of the guys from Paws & Rec handling a happy bundle of dogs. And they know how to handle any size of dog, and it seems like any amount of them. The dogs knew how to walk in a pack together with them without issue, and when the dogs were playing, the two-legged walkers would very often join the dogs in playing fetch or wrestling. Most importantly, they knew the difference of play between the dogs, and when any of the dogs got too riled up, they knew how to calm them down. So since it was obvious they know dogs and their behaviors well and all their dogs seem to love them, I knew I would keep them in mind should I ever need them. It also helps that they seemed like good, honest people because a friend had a bit of an infuriating incident with hers (not Paws & Rec) a few years back that made me realize you had to be careful. I've also been approached by dog walkers who offered their info, but they never seemed like a good fit for my pups. Stan from Paws & Rec in particular stood out to me, because he asked me about my pups' names once and whenever he would see them, he would enthusiastically shout their names, even if they were across the street. Stan would regularly pet and play with either of them, even though he had never walked them, and he seems to have such joy whenever he plays with the dogs. When the time came when neither my partner nor I would be home to do an afternoon walk, I called them. After just a bit of logistical back and forth with Jenny at Paws & Rec, we found out it could be Stan walking them, because we're in his zone, and of course he recognized the pups. But they still wanted to follow their usual routine of sending him, or another team rep from their family-owned business to check out the dogs in person at their home (and meet their parents, of course) before walking them and make sure they're okay with a pack situation, and to drop off an informational packet about their history and the nitty gritty of rates. It was such an easy and reassuring process, and everyone is reliable, (professionally) friendly, and responsible. Everyone is very quick to answer questions through any mode, and always very helpful. The dogs love Stan and come home well worn out. If/When I walk them in the afternoons and they see Stan, they bolt towards him, tails wagging in the air, and he is as enthusiastic to see him. The walks are two hours long each, and they either offer a morning or afternoon walk (choose one) weekdays only. They also seem to have a quick late afternoon option one if you work late. You provide the collar/harness, they have their orange leashes that they give to you to keep. To my knowledge, they don't have a physical address where you can meet them, but per their info packet, they cover: Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo, Fort Greene, Cobble Hill, Borum Hill, Carroll Gardens, Gowanus, Park Slope, & Prospect Heights. read more

We used Paws & Rec for my dog for about 1.5 years. We started at the recommendation of a trainer. My dog was a bit shy and did not care for other dogs. The walks were a way to have her be in situations where she wasn't with us, because we thought maybe part of it was her protecting us. The walks were wonderful. She still doesn't really care for other dogs, but now she's fine with existing with them near her and just ignores them. Stan was a wonderful dog walker and person over all. He always took such good care of our girl. She would come home tired and he always posted so many videos so I could see her wandering around smelling everything. She has gained so much confidence and if we weren't moving, I would still be using Paws & Rec. Paws & Rec was very responsive and timely and I never had a problem with cancellations or just general inquiries. If you want to tire your dog out, or even help build their confidence, then this is definitely the place for you. read more

We've been using Paws n Rec for about 2 months now and we couldn't be happier. It's local and family run and you get that personal touch - everyone is super friendly, I can text the owner with any questions, and scheduling can be done quickly over email. Most importantly, they are true dog lovers. I know our pup is in the best hands and he's getting all the pets and belly rubs he wants. Our 1 year golden doodle gets picked up Mon-Thurs. and goes out for a walk and to a local dog park with a pack of 3-4 other dogs. I get to see videos of him having the time of his life on Instagram and he comes home happy and tired. He's always been a super social pup, so this is a great way to make sure he gets good exercise and stimulation. The dog walkers are friendly and engaging but also quick and self-sufficient so if i happen to be working from home during pick-up, I don't even need to look up from my laptop. The walkers do the little things that go above and beyond like bring in my packages and clean up any pup related spills. One of the first times our pup was picked up, he got scared and peed on the couch. I watched our walker (via the Furbo) do his best to clean up the mess and then I got a text from the owner letting me know so I could do a thorough clean up when I got home. I really can't say enough good things about Paws and Rec. Highly recommended and plan to use them for a very, very long time! read more

I let them walk my dog for 4 days, however I had to stop since I didn't think my dog was safe with them. It's a two-hour pack walk, so it was important that she is correctly leashed up with an easy walk and a headhalter - she is a puller and can easily get out of her harness, not to mention that on a two-hour walk she may pick up all sorts of street garbage absent a headhalter. I submitted detailed instructions and also left a note for the walkers on how to leash her up correctly, leaving my phone number in case they have questions. You have no direct contact with the walkers, and they are not always consistent. Not once were my instructions followed. On two occasions, the walkers looked like they had no idea how to use a head halter. Instead of calling me, as requested in my note, they just wrapped it around her neck and headed out. Clearly, there is deficiency in training and sense of responsibility. I am not willing to gamble with my dog's safety, so I cancelled the service. I spoke to Jenny, the manager, who did a poor job of hiding the fact she didn't like having to speak with me again. If you ask her, they are doing it their own way, which is successful, whatever that means. What she should have done is made 100% sure her walkers are putting my dog's gear correctly and then demonstrated it. She couldn't be bothered. She kept saying they take safety very seriously, which meant very little since I only had evidence of the opposite. Very disappointing, because they were recommended by someone I have a lot of respect for and I trusted they would work well with me. Instead, they showed themselves to be a mediocre pet service that sends dog walkers who are either incompetent or negligent. read more

I absolutely cannot recommend Paws & Rec highly enough! They have been walking my dog, Lenny, for about a year and a half, and overall I find them to be extremely reliable, experienced, and flexible. The fact that it's a family-run company is very much felt, in the best possible way. Jenny Fox and her sons are all super nice and accessible over email/text, which makes it easy to navigate any scheduling issues or complications. The pack walks are SUCH a good value- it's actually insane. I do the 5x/week afternoon weekday pack walks, each which lasts 2 hours (sometimes even more) with about half the time spent off leash, and it's $150 PER WEEK, aka $30 per day. For the amount of consistent mental and physical exercise my dog gets, I am truly floored by how well spent my money is. My dog is pretty much with the same pack leader, Maciej, everyday, which means he also is mostly with the same dogs each day. This consistency has really helped to improve his socialization, confidence, and leash walking skills. And Maciej is A SAINT! My dog is obsessed with him, and I can't think of anyone else I trust more to keep my dog safe and happy. Lenny can be pretty high energy and has struggled with reactivity issues with other dogs and sometimes people. Even though he's gotten way better (due, in large part, to the positive influence of daily pack walks), he can still be reactive at times, but Maciej handles it with the utmost calm and competence. I also have his number so I can contact him directly in case there are issues, and he also posts daily on his Instagram so I can see my dog in action! I can also tell that Maciej truly loves Lenny- I know that sounds a little corny, but I really appreciate the bond they have developed and think it has further helped my dog cultivate a more balanced temperament! And that's actually something I've noticed with all of the walkers Lenny has encountered- they truly are dog people, through and through. For example, one time another pack leader, Jake, came to pick up Lenny when Maciej was out, and Lenny apparently was aggressively snarling at him when he got to the door. I got a very calm text from Jenny, who informed me of the situation and said that Jake would just try again a little later. He did, and everything was fine! I think this is just such a testament to the patience and experience of the Fox family and their employees. They have a deep understanding of dogs and how to fulfill their needs.
