HI-BK is a wonderful and great place if you're looking for a good, reputable and professional daycare. Our dog Millie, has been going to hi-bk for over two years and has loved it since day one. I'm an anxious dog owner, and tend to over worry but I never do when Millie is at daycare because I always see how happy and well attended she is. Her tag starts wagging the second we mention she's going to daycare, and scratches the door to get in if the door isn't opened fast enough. She loves the staff, always takes a moment to say goodbye before heading home after greeting us, especially if it's Richmond at the desk. They have strong guidelines about vaccines, dog's health, temperament tests, crate testing for boarding, and more which always made me feel very confortable and assured that they're putting these procedures in place to keep HI-BK safe for all staff and dogs. The space is well kept and clean. It's obvious that everyone who works at HI-BK cares for the dogs so much, they are all so friendly and welcoming, and most importantly, they are so kind and well mannered with the dogs. Millie loves people's attention and she gets lots of love and attention. I wouldn't trust anyone with the care of Millie but I would always trust hi-bk to be a safe and welcoming space for Millie. The place is a really respectable business that puts pride into taking care of your dog, ensuring the safety of all pets and are always super pleasant. The staff is awesome - they care about all the dogs, are professional and helpful. They post updates via social media - no live cameras (which is a great way to stop over-pet parenting in the modern age lol). They require: -up to date vaccinations -trial day before starting -reservations + confirmation beforehand (call for same-day if space available). Our pup was nervous and has/had separation anxiety issues so they worked with us to build up his courage to be there longer and longer. Google never posted my review from a few months ago so I figured I'd share it here. --- I witnessed the most bizarre and unprofessional interaction at HI-BK this morning when I popped in to buy a Toppl. I walk into the location behind another woman who was picking up her dog from daycare. I already had my items and was waiting at the front desk to check out when the owner came out with this woman's (very cute) Boxer puppy. She asked how her puppy did and the owner, instead of helping me get checked out first so he can speak to the owner privately, proceeded to chastise her about her dog's behavior. In front of me. The first - literally first - words out of his mouth were "are you training with a trainer right now, do they use SHOCK COLLARS?" In an increasingly exasperated tone, he sighs aggressively and asks her if she's using positive reinforcement only training. Obviously, the woman is confused, says yes but they just started working on basics like crate training. I think he was secretly hoping that the "reactivity" he witnessed was caused by you know, using aversive training methods, so he could have a convenient explanation for the puppy's behavior. He proceeded to show her a video of the reactive incident he was talking about. This is happening directly in front of me by the way, so I can also see the video. The woman also let him know that we weren't together so if he wanted to help me check out first, he can do that. He ignores her and continues describing what he thinks is the issue with her dog. Right in front of me. I am awkwardly listening to this entire conversation because it is happening 2 feet away from me. Anyway, in this video, there were about 4 or 5 dogs near a wall. He says the dogs were playing and then suddenly, the Boxer reacts very harshly to another dog that it was playing with. Thankfully, he had the leash to interrupt it, and he said the dogs went back to playing after. He proceeded to reiterate that the Boxer's reactivity is very concerning, very concerning, and that she "needs to work on this with her trainer immediately." It is incredibly irresponsible and dangerous to put puppies in social situations that it is not comfortable in, so uncomfortable that it felt the need to react aggressively to create space. That is a recipe for creating reactivity. Rather than explaining that the Boxer puppy might not be a great fit for the type of daycare that they operate, this guy is very sternly implying that the puppy's reactivity was the owner's fault... when in reality, it was HIS fault for putting the dogs in a situation like that. This is why dogs should be matched in small groups based on temperament - not all dogs, even friendly ones, are tolerant or comfortable being around 15, 20+ dogs at the same time in a small, contained environment. At this point, I said I worked with a trainer (Dream Come True K9) and had a wonderful experience with them, as we had to work through some fear aggression. This guy immediately turns to me, puts his hand up, and says "this is not fear aggression," and goes back to talking to this woman (all while NOT helping me so I can pay for my stuff and just leave). I never said that her dog displayed fear aggression, I said that MINE did, and we worked successfully with this local trainer. He then goes on this very unhinged rant about all the Korean K9 Rescue dogs are abused and now have deeper underlying issues that none of us (except him, I guess) can see. His tone was disturbing. I personally believe in training for what's best, practical, and healthy for both dog and owner. And to be open-minded, non-judgmental of what works for other dogs and owners, even if they're different from our own preferences. I also believe if a business accepts a client, its their job to ensure that the dog is having a safe, productive, and positive experience through socializing dogs with appropriate play styles and temperaments - not blame the owner for lack of "training" when in reality, the incident sounds like it was due to the owners lack of oversight. read more

I cannot recommend HI-BK enough. We have a young (4.5 month old) aussie who is an absolute love, but sometimes he needs a little more confidence-building, so we decided to give daycare a shot in hopes it helps him learn how to dog AND gives his humans some respite. We tried a location around the corner from our apartment in Prospect Heights and had a TERRIBLE experience, where we had to immediately pull Tato out based on their poor integration of him into their daycare group. That same week we decided to give HI-BK a try, despite the long walk, and holy moly how happy we've been. I sent the owners a concerned email in preparation for our daycare day, asking how they plan to integrate Tato, and instead of sending a cold email back they immediately called me over the phone and we spoke for almost half an hour. They assured me how they plan to help him get settled, that someone would be watching him the entire time, and that they would go at his pace. What they said over the phone matched up EXACTLY to what happened the following day. One of the staff stayed with Tato as he got used to the space -- they slowly introduced pups to him -- and eventually he was romping around with fewer worries. As a worried dog-mom, they sent me plenty of photos and videos of Tato's progress, that helped put me at ease the entire time he was there. Fast forward to today, day 3 of daycare, and he's passed out next to me as I write this review, after being an absolute menace and playing with all-the-puppers. They said he's acting like a completely different dog -- more confident than ever! This is all thanks to their patience, care, and understanding. Thank you, thank you, thank you! read more

HI-BK is hands down the best doggy daycare you will find (anywhere!!). We've been taking our Kona (2 yr old) since they opened, luckily right behind our apartment complex. Even better, they're right next to Coffee Project so you can grab a coffee after drop-off! Richmond and Geraldine (owners) are the absolute best and they put so much love, care, and energy into this place - it totally shows. They also post on their Instagram account throughout the day so it's always fun to see what the dogs are up to, even when our dog is not there :D HI-BK has the cutest dog crew! Our Kona is a bit of a handful sometimes (rescue w/a lot of anxiety and energy), but they took the time to make sure she was eased into the group at her own pace (they have a free/required temperament test). This is something we overlooked with previous daycares and had no idea how our dog was probably actually more stressed the entire time :( We are unfortunately moving back to CA and will miss HI-BK so much. It's been amazing to see them open AND grow so much in a middle of an ongoing pandemic! If you live in the area, this is the only place you should bring your furry friend. You won't regret it! I really appreciate the amount of care that goes into a simple temperament test for first time doggies! When I dropped Pippa off last week, they talked me through the entire process of slowly introducing Pippa to the pack that was there for daycare for the day, and how they'll make sure she gets breaks if she needs it. She loves other dogs and always wants to play, so I knew she would fit right in. When I dropped Pippa off, she wanted to run home with me (hello, separation anxiety anyone?), and when I picked her up, she turned around and looked longingly through the door at her friends -- success! Fast Fwd: to this past Saturday and she had her first full day of daycare and had SUCH a blast. A tired puppy is a happy one, they often say. When you're a single dog parent and raising a puppy during the pandemic, you need all the help you can get! I love that they are so close to home (Pippa gets really car sick, so proximity is key) and have wonderful, friendly staff. We're definitely going to be regulars. read more

The last time I thought about leaving a review here, I got lazy because I noticed they already have all five stars. No need, right? I feel compelled to leave one now because as the dog dad of a Korean K9 Rescue dog (adopted almost three years ago), my and my wife's experience was very different from that described in the January 6, 2023 review written by Kara N. As to her account, I wasn't there that day, so I can't and won't say what happened or didn't happen--I would encourage people to read her eight-paragraph review and see if it holds water, although I have my own views below. Your take might be different from mine, but for me, this account is wholly inconsistent with how he's interacted with us and our dog. The guy is extremely soft-spoken and while he and his wife's business has a free-free/positive only policy, he's explicitly told me during conversations that different situations can call for different training methods. And he has never made a single disparaging remark about KK9R dogs. I legitimately cannot imagine this guy going on some rant with a disturbing tone--I don't think guy's voice and tone has ever gone above like a 3 on a 10 level in intensity in front of us, so her description of what he's "secretly hoping" for and his "increasingly exasperated tone" as to "SHOCK COLLARS" just does not compute for me. Again, maybe he was cranky or feeling sassy that day, and you can come to your own conclusions as to this review, but this honestly reads like some white knighting fan fiction by someone who had very limited exposure to the context and individuals involved (this honestly kind of sounds like the required temperament test that didn't go well) and believed themselves to have been advocating for dog and owner rights to the world. I also don't understand how the conversation goes from Dream Come True K9 to a rant about how all Korean K9 Rescue dogs are abused. "[U]nhinged," might be a fitting excerpt from this review. With that said though, maybe they can have a friendlier tone? I don't know, customer service is hard, man. read more

I really can't say enough good things about HI-BK. I've been bringing my dog Stevie there for the last two years for both daycare and boarding, and she loves it. Stevie was very shy and fearful when we first adopted her from Korean K9 Rescue, and during her first few weeks at daycare. The HIBK team was so patient, sweet, and helpful with her, pretty soon she warmed up to the counselors and started playing with the other dogs. I never imagined she'd be so happy at a daycare, and I'm thrilled with her social progress. HIBK does all the details right in terms of clean facilities, safety, and health measures. This includes a rigorous on-boarding process for new dogs which was a little intimidating as a first time dog owner. But knowing how serious they are about health and safety gives me incredible peace of mind. Their facilities are so spotless, I swear sometimes Stevie comes home smelling better than when I dropped her off lol! I'm so glad we found HIBK. They treat my sweet Stevie like family, and we love being part of the HIBK Ohana :) read more

Called HI-BK yesterday to bring my dog Shiloh in for his first ever "haircut." Wanted a simple ear trim that looked super natural and clean. The staff was super friendly and squeezed me in for the next day. Shiloh got his trim from Rosemary and it came out AMAZING. So clean, natural looking and left some "fringe" exactly like I asked. While we waited, the staff gave lots of helpful info about training and daycare. Also loved looking at all of their cute goodies for the pups. 10/10 will be back! read more

I cannot say enough good things about HI-BK! My dog is a rescue from Korea, adopted through Korean K9, and is an energetic 2 year old beagle and Korean street dog mix. She's very shy and has a lot of anxiety in general, but she LOVES this place! All of the staff there have been incredibly patient with her from day one, and let her get used to them and the space at her own pace. Now she runs in and excitedly greets everyone (which she never does with any other humans except me - it's amazing to see). While she is there for the day, she plays all day (and I love that they post pictures and videos to Instagram - it's always so cute!) and then is usually tired even into the next day. They are very conscientious about how they let the dogs interact and so I feel confident that she will be with fun playmates and be able to take a break if she needs. I know when I drop her off there that she is going to have a great time, and I trust HI-BK to take wonderful care of her! read more

Rich and Geraldine have been beyond kind and accommodating, helping this first time dog-parent navigate life with a dog in a city. You can tell the people who work there really enjoy being with the dogs and truly care about them. For example, they noticed my dog benefited from resting a little bit in the morning so they made that part of his routine. Besides day care, Hurley took classes and trained with Sandy and went for grooming. Everyone has been outstanding!
