PAWS is best place to adopt your new furry family member! After weeks and weeks of researching shelters near and far, I narrowed it down to three places. The first place didn't have any kitties that would harmoniously fit in our household and the second place was close to a disaster (rude, abrasive employees, etc). After a bit of disappointment, days later, we finally made our way to PAWS. Before walking in I told myself I wouldn't expect anything. But oh my goodness, when I finally walked into the beautiful and magical kitten room, I had a hunch I was going home with a kitten... The facility is staffed with friendly, knowledgable, and helpful people. I didn't feel rushed by anyone and it was simply just like hanging out with some cats! I think that was my favorite part. You're able to stay in the room, interact and get to know the kitties and also get to chance to figure out what feels best without having staff members breathe down your neck waiting for your decision. We left with the sweetest kitten there. I feel so lucky to have found such a loving little boy. You've gotta see the way he looks at everyone in his new family, especially his older kitty sister! I recently visited this adoption center a few times looking for a young cat to adopt. Each time, I was greeted by the friendly volunteers and introduced to the cats that might work for my family. I missed out on a couple sweeties (didn't put them on hold, which they will do for you, and they were gone when I came back), but when I met my new kitten last weekend, I knew it was for the best. All the pets I saw were in great health, had all their vaccinations to date, and were very well taken care of. The facility was clean, and the cats all had awesome rooms to hang out in while waiting for adoption. I'd recommend PAWS Cat City to anyone looking for a cat to adopt. So would my kitty. read more

This is definitely the worst experience I have had in pet adoption. Their premise is that they are a "non-profit", but they will charge close to $100 to cover their "checkup and vet fees" to "insure" a healthy pet. Then when you let them know your cat died a month later, they back pedal and quote their "contract". These folks are truly disgusting. I love this place! I came in here asking questions and ended up with two 1 year old cats (bonded). They were very thorough and asked many questions before allowing me to see and adopt kitties (a family came in where the father proclaimed with his wad of cash: "I can buy all the kitties in this place". Needless to say after him and his family told them that they had owned kitties but for only 1-2 years at a time and couldn't provide an explanation of why they had disappeared, they weren't allowed to adopt. Overall, very nice and friendly, however in a shelter like this, the cats pass around flus and viruses easily, so you may have a vet visit relating to that soon enough. Luckily they give you a free vet coupon... along with coupons to mud bay (who gave me what must have been 40+ dollars of stuff for free). And for those of you who are looking for kittens specifically, I would suggest calling in before you go to make sure they have kittens at the moment. It's been 3 years since I adopted 2 kittens from Cat City, but, it was an awesome experience. I am all about no-kill shelters and supporting them. They gave me lots of time to choose my new pals. I got a male and female and at 8 weeks, they'd already been spayed/neutered and were microchipped. The price for adoption was SO amazingly affordable, considering I didn't have to pay for my first vet visit, because they pay for it by way of a certificate. And, they didn't need to be "fixed" and microchipped. Those can be costly. The staff was super friendly. When I went, they gave me a coupon booklet for Mud Bay. With the two booklets, I got 2 litter pans, 2 bags of kitten food, 2 bags of litter. It was unreal all that I got for the cost of the adoption of my kitties...Cleo & Figaro! (RIP Figaro. My boyfriend and I had an amazing cat that has passed away and left us feeling like something was missing in our lives. After letting time pass, we decided it was time for us to search for a new cat to add back into our lives. I had heard amazing things about PAWS so on our days off of work we decided to stop in and see the kittens. When we walked in, there was a bigger lady sitting at the front desk, who didn't say much of anything to us at all as we walked up towards her. We told her that we wanted to take a look around, so we did. There were two ladies sitting with the kittens in the room toward the back of PAWS. We saw a couple kittens that caught our eyes so we went to ask if we could go visit with them (we wanted to see what their personalities were like before considering...which is completely normal when looking to adopt). The lady was short and rude and told us no, we could not go back and visit with them. She didn't give us any explanation as to why, or what process to go through in order to visit with them...she just had horrible customer service and left it up to me to ask her questions trying to figure out what we needed to do. I still am unsure about how we would adopt from there, or even get to visit with a cat we potentially want to bring home. We left and will never consider going through PAWS again. There are SO many cats and kittens in the world that have no homes, and are living on the streets or living in a shelter or adoption agency....WHY would you make it harder to find them homes? Shouldn't they be doing their jobs are trying to find the cats and kittens a loving place to call home? We love our sweet little kitty. Her name was Louise, but we renamed her Cora. She is playful and affectionate and does so well with our two young children and dog. Cat Nazis I have never had such a negative experience at any animal shelter or sanctuary. Literally left my 10 year old daughter in tears. Remember that crazy old cat lady that lived on your block as a child? The one that doesn't notice she's wearing a filthy dress, that her cats seem unkempt and that the house stinks of cat urine and feces? She's now running a cat adoption agency and it's called PAWS. Double check the reviews and sift those awarding 5 stars because the place has fluffy kittens, from the reviews of people *actually there to adopt*. Check other's experience *in adopting* from the place: Rude, abrupt, militant and seemingly capricious: - You don't get in the door unless you fill out thier "survey" and pass an interview. - NO browsing and DO NOT ask to visit with the cats. After my 10 year old daughter was abruptly told she could not visit with the cats, I was sternly told that NO ONE gets to pet the kitties UNLESS they've filled out ALL of the paperwork, provided contact info, passed an interview (I'm not making this up), committed to adopt whatever cat THEY tell you, you should; AND been approved through their screening process... - THEY are going to tell you which cat you should adopt (AND more ludicrously *how many*). Apparently this is driven by what types of cats they have too much of!? Want an adult cat? If they have too many kittens... they'll tell you you HAVE to adopt a kitten. Just want one cat? Nope... they'll tell you you HAVE to adopt TWO. Since when in the heck does someone who does not know me or my family know best what type of a pet fits us and our household!? Just want to visit with kitties in the hopes one may capture your heart and commit you to a lifetime of care and cuddling? NOT ALLOWED!!!! My "interview" seemed to focus solely on the single question of "what's the longest you new cat might be left alone?" I was informed that I was NOT approved to adopt a cat AND my 10 year old daughter was not allowed to visit with them. Answer: I have had cats my whole life - at least 40 years. I was never asked "Describe the personalities of the cats you've had?" Answer: I have always had a touch with cats, and have found almost all of my cats - whether adopted after abuse or stray - to have developed into loving, effusive, affectionate around people and child friendly, playful and healthy. I was never asked "Do you have the space and financial ability to care for a cat?" Answer: Absolutely; having been a life-long owner I know and realize the costs and needs of owning a cat I was never asked "Will this be an indoor cat or outdoor?" Answer: I have found it far more healthy for my cat's longevity to keep them as indoor cats - my outdoor cats inevitably died within 4-6 years, often from being hit by a car or attacked by a dog; thus I've long been committed to keeping my cats indoors, finding that they stay healthier, injury free and live much longer. I was never asked "Why are you seeking to adopt now?" So heartbroken! My girlfriend and I adopted a cat there about 3 weeks ago. I found one that I really liked. We looked at her health history (she's an older cat and we just lost our Zoe in November due to cancer) and didn't see anything alarming other than the PAWS vet noticed a bruise on her abdomen but said it wasn't affecting her. My girlfriend was very apprehensive, though, because this cat was incredibly skinny. She asked the people up front about how skinny she was and was told that their vet had checked her out, found nothing, and that she just needed to eat. We brought her home and immediately fell in love with her. We took her in to a vet a couple of days later for her well check up. The vet examined her for about 3 minutes and told us that something wasn't right. He felt a lot of fluid in her subcutaneous tissue around her abdomen where the bruising was and said we needed to run a blood test to find out why. The blood test showed that she's anemic, which triggered an x-ray and urine culture. The x-ray shows she has either a mass or fluid in her chest which is prompting an ultrasound and chest tap. I talked to the vet today and he said everything he's seen so far, coupled with how skinny she is, is making him lean toward cancer and that it's most likely aggressive. He also let me know that this is not an acute issue and has most likely been happening for a while. I asked him if he thought PAWS should have caught it when they examined her and he told me, "There were definitely things there to see". So in other words, yeah. I talked with the shelter manager who let me know they don't do any testing on their animals and that their vet deemed her fit to adopt. She invited me to send her our cat's vet records so they could examine them to see what they "missed". Again, it took my vet all of 3 minutes of examining her to become alarmed and to order a workup. I don't think their vet "missed" anything. I think PAWS knew she was sick but, since she wasn't acting sick, put her up for adoption anyway and let us adopt her and along with her the heartbreak and financial burden of caring for a cat sick with cancer. The shelter manager argued this point with me by assuring me that, "We don't do that." Well, I'd find her easier to believe if, you know, they hadn't JUST DONE THAT. Now I have to look forward to losing another cat from cancer while spending thousands of dollars trying to keep her alive. I would avoid adopting from PAWS and specifically from this place. I understand the risks you take when you adopt an animal, especially an older one, and I'm fully prepared to deal with them. What I wasn't prepared for was dealing with an organization that, at best, is so poorly run they don't have 3 minutes to examine the cats that come through or is, at worst, acting more like a puppy mill than an adoption agency. read more

Ok, people here probably do love cats, but not in a way that is healthy. We went there to adopt a kitten for my family. We got there and happily subjected ourselves to the interview process, confident that we are responsible cat owners. I personally have had cats for nearly 40 years. We have an adult cat now and our other, elderly cat passed away about a year ago. Our cat is lonely. We live in a modest size house, 2 kids, picket fence. After much scrutiny, the volunteer told us that a kitten would be inappropriate for our adult cat to have as a friend (never mind that I have known him for 15 years and know his personality MUCH better than someone who has never met him). We could maybe, maybe adopt an older one. Also, she needed to "interview" my 3 year old son to find out if he is mature enough to have a pet cat. I said no way. I will not subject him to the heartbreak of being told he is not good enough for a pet. They didn't even let us in to see the cats. This place is C-R-A-Z-Y. Do not go there unless you enjoy humiliation and disappointment, handed down from on high by a crazy cat lady. I was so angry when we left I thought about telling her I wanted the cat for a stew, just to mess with her frail mind. Go to the Humane Society or Seattle Animal Shelter instead. They are more interested in giving pets good homes than about feeling better about themselves by judging others. read more

I have adopted 2 cats from the Cat City that used to be in Greenwood and was very happy with my experience there. Today I realized that one of my male cats needed to see a vet immediately. I'm sure other pet owners can relate to how stressful it is when your kitty is sick. They have become like family. I entered the Cat City on Roosevelt because I needed a new cat carrier to transport him to the vet. I asked specifically to purchase a disposable cat carrier as my poor cat is having some urinary issues. I was told that I could not purchase the disposable carriers, couldn't take one, and would have to purchase a regular carrier for no less than $30. To my left I found a large stack of unused disposable carriers I would have been happy to pay for. Because it was an emergency I was forced to purchase the $30 carrier, but I was disgusted with Cat City. read more

I have mixed feelings about PAWS Cat City. First, the positives: After many strolls past Cat City's windows, and several visits inside to pet the kitties, I finally adopted my adorable old cat Orwell. He brings so much joy to my life and I am so happy I found him. Some of the staff at Cat City were very helpful in the adoption process. They warned me about his health problems and showed me his lab values (...although they couldn't explain what the abnormal values meant, which is fine, they're not vets). They also have a policy where they will take cats back if they truly don't work out in your home, which I imagine has been a blessing for many people. We ALMOST took Orwell back because he took several months to adjust. I'm glad I didn't take him back, but also glad the option was available. Now, the negatives: PAWS Cat City is overloaded with volunteers. I'm pretty sure the place is almost entirely run by them, but there is usually at least a 3:1 volunteer to customer ratio, which makes browsing for cats kind of awkward. We felt like we were being scrutinized every time we went in to look at cats. They also have an eHarmony-style survey that you must fill out in order to be allowed to visit with the cats. At first, I thought the survey would be a good idea because it matches you with the cats that would be the best fit. When it came down to actually choosing a cat though, they pretty much said 'any male cat will be fine' to bring home to our female cat. And Orwell was tagged as 'good with other cats' which he most definitely is not. He'd be happiest if he never saw another cat again... The survey thing is a bit neurotic and not helpful in the end. Recently, while showing Seattle to our visiting friend, we stopped by Cat City. We were the only customers in the store and there were about six volunteers milling about. The volunteer at the desk went stone cold as soon as we said we just wanted to look at the cats and not adopt one today. "You can look through the window," she said, and then turned away. I get that they need to be protective over the cats, but yikes. read more

I was walking by tonight to meet some friends, and was stunned to see in the window a cat that looked exactly like my cat that I had owned for 17 years and died of kidney failure 5 years ago...Im still recovering. I had been wanting to get a new cat, It's a big commitment. Upon seeing this beautiful creature in the window I decided to stop, and find out more... I walked inside and asked about the cat. It was a female, 7 years old. I asked if I could meet her... "no" uh,ok. why not? "we don't let just anyone in" I have just come from work, I am in my regular business attire and wondering how I have offended? "uh ok" "if we just let anyone in we would have a line all day" In my head I am thinking, I would happily pay you a hundred dollars for this mangled 7 year old cat if we got along... and that is where it ended. I don't understand the purpose of this place. The humane society is better. Who funds this elitist garbage? If its my tax dollars, I am pissed...I am not OK with funding crazy cat ladies who want to keep all their cats to themselves in tiny glass rooms. read more

Felt rushed, which was fine. I was torn between an older cat and a kitten, so people really wanted the kitten. Should have just gone for the older one, as it became very clear they didn't spend much time with the kitten since she came to the shelter. When you adopt a kitten, they say they can't guarantee it's current health. I didn't notice that until I came home and noticed my cat was terribly sick. I noticed it when the five month old was being very lethargic. I had chocked the not eating or drinking to being nervous and feeling unsafe in the new home. She was also really underweight, but she had come from San Bernardino just days before. They do warn when adopting that there is a risk of a URI. That's fine, whatever. She was sneezing, so I figured this might be the case. However, when I got her to the vet the very next day, she had a very high fever, was very dehydrated (needed an IV drip), and tested positive with giardia and was diagnosed with a URI. They also completely misrepresented the cat's personality, which was a bit of a downer for me. Two stars though because they are a friendly staff and they try. But you definitely should try and make sure you're not worried about a kitten dropping dead the day after you adopt them. read more

I felt like a cornered cat! So I arrived at cat city in the hopes of adopting a furry friend. I was "counseled" by this older lady that proceeded to ask me questions seemingly only to correct me and shoot me down , and it seemed that she came to the conclusion that I wasn't worthy of their cats! She came to this conclusion before she ever talked to me. I'm a responsible, competent, adult who has a good job and a house that I would love to share with a cat. I even saw a cat there (that seemed to like me) that I'd be interested in adopting, but after talking to that lady I just wanted to escape, I felt so attacked and judged. I'm sure not all the staff there are like this (it even seemed like one of the younger ladies there picked up on the situation and tried to suggest a cat that I go check out ). By far the best place to adopt a cat in Seattle. The volunteers are all incredibly welcoming and clearly enjoy what they do. Terri, who seemed to be a manager, was great. Very knowledgeable. The cats and kittens live in "colonies" which are full of environmental enrichments cat towers, wall perches, toys and beds. The cats clearly benefit from and thrive in this environment. We visited with the cats and would then check their files - they had many older cats who acted much younger than their listed age. So glad I came to PAWS Cat City to adopt my new kitty! I had been by this location a few times in the past, and love their set-up which allows visitors to sit in the cat colonies and interact with the cats. I knew right away that 7 month old Nyx (renamed Kiwi) was perfect for me! She came right up to me as soon as I sat in the room, and hasn't left my side since. I really appreciated the time the volunteers took to talk about my expectations and hopes for my next cat. This ensures the kitties are placed with owners who have considered how they would like to interact with their pet. I never felt pressured to select a certain cat or type of cat; the questionnaire was solely for my benefit as the adopter. I would recommend arriving first thing after they open. I went on a Saturday morning and the shelter filled up FAST. I was worried someone else would adopt my kitty! Once you've selected a cat, however, volunteers are good about politely letting others know that the cat is spoken for. Overall, I had a great experience at PAWS and would recommend it! read more

I've acquired all three of my cats from Cat City (two from their old location in Greenwood, and one recently from their Roosevelt location.) The staff is really helpful, informative, and supportive. They were genuinely happy when I came back a few weeks later to give them an update on how my newest cat was getting along with the family. We stopped in the old Cat City on Greenwood one day a few years back shortly after my wife's 19 year old cat died "just to look around". While I was busy meeting the Polydactl (he got the thumbs) cat Yurki in one room she was being charmed by the one to become Mable. We took them both home that day. A couple of things I like about PAWS is that in the "colony" setting you get to see a bit how these cats are with each other and they really did seem to care about screening us to make sure we would be good owners. The fact that PAWS and other agencies of the sort exist sure go to show that now we have domesticated these species we should be better with them. Spay or neuter your pet. read more

We got our cat here, and we love her. The animals are obviously well cared for and loved by the employees/volunteers. One thing: We were only told that we could not adopt a kitten (because we are not home all day) after filling out their survey and looking at kittens for hours. We found one we really liked, and were only told then that we couldn't have her. They need to be more up front about that policy. But other than that, they are providing a great service, and obviously truly care about the cats. read more

We adopted our little kitty a few days ago and were thrilled with the service at PAWS. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. The cats were all in good health with plenty of food and water available. When my daughter wanted to meet a cat in one of the cages the staff arranged a special room for us. The cat was sweet but the staff were concerned that she never relaxed around our kids. Although we were interested in her, they gently steered us toward another cat whose personality was more suited to our family. And we're so glad they did. The cat we took home is a perfect match for us. Then we did the paperwork, which included a coupon for a free vet exam, free food and litter from Mud Bay, and information on microchip services. It was everything we needed to get started. They answered my many questions thoroughly and even told me how to check out whether a vet was a good one. I would definitely recommend PAWS to anyone looking to adopt a cat. read more

My original review is not among current reviews I find that interest. I got a cat 9/11/2017 from Paws on Roosevelt. When I got the cat home she started hacking every four hours. Turns out 500 dollars and growing she has Asthma. Tried to talk to people many times no-one got back to me. Finally several months later a nice woman listened to me. They reimbursed me some but not all. The director said there is a disclaimer that they aren't responsible for cat post adoption. Do not get a animal there. I will never again and will go to the animal shelter. Staff was rude when I tried to call on phone and Paws misrepresented themselves. Seems to me they would want a more positive ending. I don't write reviews but don't want anyone else going through the same thing. I better find this review when I look it up. Not my first review it is a true review. read more

Im beyond disappointed on the Bureaucracy of this place. I was turned down today because their set adoption 'policy' states that I should wait 4 weeks since the passing of my last animal before adopting a new one. Its been 3 weeks, and who are they to say that I (a 39 year old) should be told how long my mourning process is? In addition, I am the ex-wife of a Veterinarian and I am an excellent candidate for pet ownership. I even get all my Vet services for cost - or free. I have no intention of going back there because of their lame adoption policies and staff was untrained and rude to me. read more

Cat city is my top place for cat adoptions by far. I've been to seattle humane, Seattle area feline, and the paws lynnwood shelter but cat city has always given me the best overall experience. The location is clean and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I love that the cats are in rooms (not individual kennels) so that you can see them interacting with other cats and get a feel of their personality better while not cooped up. The adoption process is straight forward and all the information (age, weight, gender, health history, etc) for each cat is easily accessible in packets outside each cat room. The best part about cat city is that the staff is not judgmental and gives you the time/space needed to discuss and interact with your potential cats. They are straight forward and honest about the cats' medical history and also know the cats' personalities quite well. They do also put cats on 24hr hold if you need more time to think and prepare for your new pet. The location does have a good variety of cats and when they don't it's not a big deal, as most shelters have their peaks and lows in cat intake. Just check the website or call before you come in to see if they have new cats in it a cat that meets what you're looking for. I adopted my own female kitty from here a few months ago and couldn't be happier. I am currently looking to adopt another cat and paws cat city is definitely my preferred adoption center. read more

My son is a volunteer for Paws Cat City and I went with him one afternoon to see what Paws was really like. People listen up - it's the nicest cat shelter I have ever been in. I have been reading the reviews of others and while most are very positive, I was shocked at the two negative ones I came across. First of all, the volunteers do not "mill around". They are there to pet the cats and interact with them to ease their anxiety and to help them adjust to strange new surroundings. This in turn makes it easier for both the cats and the people who come to adopt. It also allows them to assess the cats personalities because they see the animals behavior over time. No, they do not allow people to go into the rooms with their children to play with the kitties when they are not interested in adopting This is not a petting zoo! It is a rescue operation that aims to help abandoned, unwanted cats to find good homes. It is also a safety issue. Cats can be unpredictable and your child could have been scratched or bitten. Someone is upset that there's a questionaire? What do you think - you should go in a pick up any cat you please without the organization knowing who you are, where you live, what your personality is like? If that's your problem, find a feral cat, take it to the vet, have it completely checked out and vaccinated at your expense - oh and please spay or neuter and micro chip as well. Then work on socialization. My bet is that that cat will end up at Paws. Old crazy lady behind a desk whose house smells like cat feces and made your precious pumpkin cry? Oh puleezzzeee! First of all, your ageist comments are totally inappropriate and the place is as clean as can be. This is a serious no kill shelter for abandoned and lost animals. They force you to take the cat that they want you to have? I have never heard anything so bizarre. You and the cat pick each other. No one forces anyone to do anything. Adopting cats at PAWS were wonderful experiences. I got to see their personalities and how they interacted w/ one another. Also, I got to play w/ them before deciding. My husband and I adopted two boys here and one baby girl from the Lynnwood facility. All the cats were fixed and micro chipped. The price of adoption included: free vet visit and free food, litter, and discount from Mud Bay. That was great! Our little boy, Halley and baby, Kassandra ended up w/ colds. Which was typical for cats in the shelter after getting fixed. The free vet visit came in handy. Our oldes boy, Newton, was there for a couple of months and he was well taken care off by the staff. They were happy that we decided to take him home. The staff was very friendly. They do work hard on getting the cats adopted and into good homes. They sat up down w/ us before meeting the cats and after we had decided to make sure that we will be able to care for them, ie kittens were a lot of work (Kassandra was very demanding). I highly recommend this place for adopting cats. If you want a dog, go to their Lynnwood facility. read more

I drove an hour and a half to meet a cat I had fallen in love with. I came 15 minutes early and had my paperwork ready so I was sure to be the first one to meet her. After sitting down and going through the interview process with two of the staff members, they were just getting ready to introduce me to (who I thought was going to be) my new companion. No less than a few seconds later I woman walked in claiming that she met the cat I was interested in yesterday and wanted to adopt her. The entire staff was dumbfounded and had no clue what to do. Even though this woman had not put a hold on the cat, my adoption process was cut off and I was immediately turned away. They handled the situation very unprofessionally and I was left feeling discouraged and in tears. They offered to keep my paperwork if I ever came back in search of another cat. I said no, as I will not be supporting their company from here on out. I hope situations like mine aren't typical for this shelter and I hope no one else goes through what I just did. read more

If you're thinking about adopting a cat, it's definitely worth the trip to Paws as well as the Humane Society before you make a decision. Paws is a super conscientious organization which cares for adult cats as well as kittens until they get adopted. They have volunteers who really get to know each individual cat (especially the adult cats!) so they can really help match you up with the right cat for your environment. My daughter and I adopted our kitty from Paws last summer. They were very careful to talk to us about our home environment, making sure he would be an indoor cat and be well-cared for. We had some concerns about bringing our new kitten into a house with two existing cats, so they gave us lots and lots of helpful tips about how to best go about it. They also provided tons of information on taking care of our kitty, and they act as a permanent resource for cat owners once they adopt a cat. This is an amazing organization and well worth the trip to Greenwood. read more

i visited the facility two days ago, just to check it out. i was surprised to learn they'd just opened to the public this week. the facility was bright and clean, and the cats seemed quite content to be there. i filled out an adoption questionnaire, and visited with some of the kitties. i wasn't sure i was ready to adopt, but i met Mario, and instantly knew he was the one. i came back the next day and brought him home. he's lying next to me right now. i wouldn't hesitate to recommend Cat City. the staff and volunteers were knowledgeable and helpful and very friendly, and i just had a good feeling about the placr. read more
