When I could no longer care for my cat, surprisingly, it was SAS that came through and helped me. I had been told on forums that a group like SAS would in all likelihood euthanize my cat. My memory of SAS from ten years ago was a section devoted to cats in small cages down the hall from a room where dogs were howling as if all Hell had broken out. I was distressed that the cats, all of whom were quietly sitting in their small cages, would have to endure dog mayhem at its most repellent. But a week ago, I visited SAS and surrendered my beloved cat. The room had changed: it was soundproofed, so that cats--still in small cages, could at least not be subject to the internal dog howling. The volunteers were all pleasant and empathetic. I stayed for an hour, enough time to say good-bye to my cat. They have a foster program for cats that have been surrendered. It is not exactly clear, from the website, how they operate, though. Are most of the cats surrenders or feral, for instance? What is the chance of a cat being euthanized because of age, behavior issues, or chronic health problems? I know the Humane Society has much nicer "digs" for their cats, which is why I hoped against all hope that I could surrender him there, which is where I adopted him as a kitten 8-9 years ago. They never got back to me. I can, in good conscience, sing the praises of SAS. They came through for both me and my cat when least expected ("kitty season"). He has a chance for a new and better life. For that, I am eternally grateful. Unlike other non-profits, of course, they do receive government funding. It does seem odd, though, that people who donate to the non-profits often are ignored by the very same non-profits in time of need.

We found this sweet and friendly female pitbull on a stormy night in Seattle. They offer free microchip check services here and their machine is fast on checking. Unfortunately, she was not microchipped and we hope that she gets reunited with her owner soon. In 3 days, she will be put up for adoption if there is no claim and we just want her to find a loving family that will give her all the love and care she deserves. We asked if we can get an update on her status, but SAS is understaffed so they told us they don't have a system to help update. There is plenty of parking here in the lot, but it is pretty tight. Came here on a Sunday and just had to enter our name and reason on their iPad to be added on the waitlist. Staff here are nice and provided water for her while we waited.

What stood out most was how thoughtful and thorough they are. They do not just let any dog go to anyone. They ask questions, learn about your lifestyle, family, and living situation, and help make sure it is the right fit for both the dog and the adopter. They truly want every dog to find a forever home. I originally came in to meet a specific dog, but Sarah and Eliz helped me think through whether that dog was really the best fit for me, my family, and the dog. Their honesty and care meant so much. Sarah, one of the volunteers, spent over three hours helping people, answering questions, supporting the animals, and making thoughtful matches. She helped match me with the perfect dog for my family, and I am so thankful for her time and patience. Eliz, who runs the rescue, clearly pours her heart into these animals and advocates hard for every one of them. After visiting in person, I have an even deeper respect for rescue work. The volunteers give their weekends, time, and energy to help animals who need someone to fight for them. I will absolutely continue supporting Forever Home Dog Rescue and encouraging others to rescue instead of shop. Especially from this rescue.

Like many shelters in the area, we were required to fill out an application before being allowed a visit. Luckily, we passed the test. In fact, we had a response within a 1/2 hour of sending our application, very late on a Thursday night I might add. By the next morning we had made an appointment for 11:30 that day. When we arrived at Caesars, I couldn't believe how much love the owner had for her rescue dogs, cute, funny looking, shy or not. We proceeded to check out the little black lab mix we had come to see. The Owner used this time to share everything she knew about the dog, where he came from, how she got him, all the shots he had gone through, etc. She had taken him to the vet, poor guy had kennel cough and not-so-great stool. She gave us every last detail in order for us to be fully informed new parents. They even did a home inspection to make sure what we said on our application was true. We have had a couple follow up questions a few days later and have received almost immediate replies to help us on our way. We were provided all the vet paperwork available. Our puppy already had his chip and was neutered, we received all the invoices with that information as well. You could tell she had a definite passion for what she does and takes the greatest care in ensuring the animals are nursed back to health if needed, provided a loving and attentive environment and placed in good homes.

Our tour guide Maddie was super knowledgeable and was able to tell us how every animal came to the sanctuary. She was super upbeat and articulate in a way that showed deep care for the animals. The tour is a lot of hills and I appreciate that they provided a golf cart for the people in our tour group with limited mobility. In every aspect of our experience it seemed Pasado's put accessibility first. But the tour itself is so heartbreaking. The first thing my boyfriend said when we got back to our car is that this is the most depressing animal sanctuary experience he's ever had. And I agree, it was hard to stay upbeat and have a cute romantic experience while our tour guide essentially described horrific cases of animal cruelty for two hours. I learned so many great things on the tour and I'd definitely love to come back here to adopt a cat or volunteer. I just think it definitely wasn't the romantic Valentine's day experience we were looking for.

It's very easy to reach someone at the front desk. The doctors are very kind and responsive. They even have a website where you can go in and check your pets' appointments and prescriptions. One of my cats is sick and is on life-long medication. The hospital where he was being treated shut down their Internal Medicine department, so Obi did not have an ongoing vet. This happened right when Obi's prescription ran out, and no pharmacy was able to refill the medication since the previous vet was no longer available. The folks at Northwest were super accommodating and were able to fit me into their schedule to do a quick checkup and send out a fresh prescription. This was during the pandemic, when most vets were not even accepting new patients.
