Brought my younger pup into the store today to see about raincoats and treats (of course). They had a small section of pet clothes, which did have some raincoats, and had the sizes for both my dogs, which is a major victory in my book. The staff were super warm and friendly, they couldn't get enough of Calvin in his new raincoat. They helped me find the size for my bigger dog I needed, and were chill about Calvin wanting to try treats. They made the experience very pleasant. Baci's favorite shop!! You can park anywhere in the university village and my puppy will bring you here with his little nose. I mean! How can you not love this spot. Sadly, we come here almost every week just for the bones and ice cream. I still cook all his meals at home! So what's the best part about this spot besides the happy puppies? You can park downstairs in the village or up here in the smaller lot. It's a smaller store but they have the essentials that we always get: goat milk gelato, bacon and chedder swell's puppy ice cream, peanut butter ice cream! The smoked bones, Icelandic fish skin, the bully sticks, the chewy yak chews and the occasional little treats from their treat bar: we got the tub! You get discount per pound with the tub. He doesn't like them as much since they are mostly flavored with grains so we get a handful sometimes. But beef jerky, taffy, bbq smoked bones! Can't go wrong with them. The sales people are very, very friendly and really strive to create a welcoming environment. Every time I've come, they've been generous about giving us treat samples which I really appreciate. It's got a cute boutique pet store feel and has a more interesting selection than your box pet store giants. My bud loves all of the fun treats like dehydrated rabbit. The prices are a bit above Amazon, but more affordable than all the best. Plus, I like shopping and trying things on my pup. And the selection is pretty quality stuff whereas Amazon is so, so very hit or miss with pet products. I like that their selection isn't limited to just ruff wear too. I've gotten a backpack that my dog can wear (it's time he starts pulling his weight around here), a few squeaker tennis balls, chew toys, and some fun treats. Picking out dog food is overwhelming. We just weaned our small dog off of wet food and went to go look for new kibbles and snacks. We're moving away from costco brand and target dog snacks. We wanted something made in this country and with trustworthy ingredients so off to Mud Bay! I wish I got his name but this guy was so helpful! He gave us a ton of samples of various dog food with lamb, beef, or salmon from good reputable companies. These samples are pretty big too and free so we didn't have to buy a bag and just go with it. He was so knowledgeable but we came to find that he owned cats and not dogs! Yet I still trust his word because it was obvious he was passionate about the workings of mud bay and knew his stuff! He also told us that they learn about the manufacturing process and they go through thorough training on their product. Thanks to him my chiweenie was able to choose his own kibbles and also came home with mud bays reusable refillable bucket of dog snacks. I love Mud Bay as a company. And I have been to almost every location! However this location is my favorite. The employees make shopping here easy and enjoyable. Always friendly and eager to share their expertise. I wish I knew all of their names so I could name them, but Just know that they are awesome! If only 3.5 stars were an option... I'm going to be generous and give it four stars because mostly this place is just fine, but there are times when the quality (or lack thereof) of the customer service really drives me nuts. This store has a large selection of dog and cat foods, treats, supplements and pretty much anything that you may need for your four-legged furry friend. But I really wish the sales people appreciated the presence of the customers in their store a bit more. I stopped by today to get a specific brand of dry food for my dog. One of the sales people came over to the shelves to help me look for it, and it turned out that they didn't have it displayed. So far so good. Then the sales person walked over to the counter to find out whether they've ever gotten the food or not. For a good five minutes, "my" sales person and another one chatted quietly behind the counter, completely ignoring my presence. At last they informed me that they do not get this food, and asked whether I wanted to look at other brands. When I said that I would first need to do some research and compare all ingredients (my dog has allergies), I got the most disdainful look from "my" sales person. Yes, I realize that these people might be bigger experts on dog food than I am. But why would I want to spend time with someone who looks through me? I'll rather read stuff up at home and then come with a specific list, then be treated like this. Such approach deserves a lot less stars, but again, they do have a whole lot of stuff in this store, and not all the sales people there have this attitude, so you might actually have a very positive experience here. read more

This Mud Bay is only my favorite because it's the nearest to my house. I wouldn't say it's necessarily the friendliest staff either. I used to go to All the Best Pet Care on Lake City Way and they by far have the friendliest staff and they genuinely remember you and your dog's mug. This store is nicely stocked and the prices are a bit lower than I've seen in other stores. They also have Niner's favorite treats and his favorite chow. I wish the aisles were a bit wider for my hyper doggie, but the store is pretty small. I'll give it one more star when the staff is not so distracted. read more

So, this is how ridiculous I am. We get our rescue kitty and I go in to the store and say, "Hi, I am looking for a new food for a cat we just got. My husband and I are Vegan so we would like to get something that is sustainable and if possible, local, and overall does as little harm as possible." Okay, i am pretty sure I would have laughed in my face and sent me away. After all, it is a cat and this is cat food. The girl did not even blink. Instead, she took me back and showed me foods that actually met my criteria!! Cat food produced in British Columbia by a family company that uses only wild caught fish? Thank you, i will take it!! They will give you samples of dry foods and let you sample up to three cans of wet food per visit, but you can keep coming back for as many samples as you need. The staff is well trained and has even opened up cans to tell us if it is a gravy or pate food. (Have I mentioned our cat is spoiled?) I would say that this U-village store definitely has the most helpful staff of the stores I have visited. They have helped us find food through allergies and jaw surgery and supplements for when our cat needed to put on weight after an accident. They also have a great selection of toys, cat trees and litters. I don't know what we would do without Mud Bay. read more

We had the absolute best experience at Mud Bay U Village last night. I brought in my new German Shepherd, Ada, who has been REFUSING to eat a thing. As she is a rescue and already underweight, this was very concerning. We were getting pretty desperate, so I went into Mud Bay U Village to see if there were any suggestions. The employee we spoke with went behind the counter and grabbed some samples. She then let my big slobbery dog eat the food (first food in about 6 days) right out of her hand! I was amazed. Her compassion and dedication to customer service was so wonderful. After walking me over to the food she liked and talking me through all my questions (her knowledge was impressive!), I mentioned I would like to see if there were some treats she would try. We walked through all the bulk treats seeing if she took an interest (she didn't), and she then let her sniff at a bunch of other treat samples from behind the counter. When Ada wouldn't take any, she bagged up the ones she showed a slight interest with multiples of each one so that "if she eats one, you can bring the other back in so we can find it for you!" It was hands down the best customer service I have ever experienced. In our stressed out, new dog-parenthood state, it made me feel like I had a true partner in pet ownership, and we can't wait to go back. read more

This Mud Bay location is one of the two places we regularly buy food and other supplies for our two cats (the other one being All the Best in Kenmore which is on my partner's way home from work). The staff here are really friendly and helpful, and they have a good selection of good-quality cat food, toys, and litter. They also carry carriers, scratching posts and cat trees, pretty much anything you need for your kitty. We feed our cats a mixture of raw food and good-quality canned. Mud Bay offers a discount if you buy any 12 cans at once, and there are also often dented cans for 25 cents off near the register. They're also generous with free samples of food and treats. The main reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is their selection of raw cat food has slowly decreased since we started going here, with more of the raw freezer being devoted to dog food. I guess this is partially because one of the brands they carry, Nature's Variety, has moved more towards selling bags of frozen "bites" that mimic kibble, instead of larger medallions, but the "bites" are more expensive and I like the medallions anyway since they're so easy to ration. They also sell Primal, but only one flavor (Chicken and Salmon) fits our budget; other flavors like Rabbit can be almost twice the cost! We've switched to buying Small Batch brand raw at All the Best, which is better for our cats anyway since it isn't high pressure pasteurized (basically, it's more raw). read more

So, I adopted a dog that is very underweight and I was worried because she wouldn't eat the food I was giving her. However, I know she was still hungry because she would try to crawl into your lap in order to get my food. So I went into this Mud Bay and they were extremely helpful. They set me up with different samples of dehydrated and canned dog foods and several products to help promote weight gain. Which she has responded to very well. These people were patient with me and answered all of my questions. I will definitely be going back for all of my doggy needs. I am very happy with their service. read more

If you are an animal lover like me then this place is for you. I have been to many shops in Hawaii, but none are really like Mud Bay! They have all sort of food and snacks for almost every domesticated animal. I really liked that the pet food here is the high quality product (sounds like a pet drug dealer). The staff here are very friendly and nice. I was looking for a specific dog treat made out of Salmon. Sadly Mud Bay didn't carry that particular brand, but I was shown a handful of similar products that more than likely replace the one I was searching for. Seeing as this was a request made by my mother I could not make the executive decision to just feed the dog a new treat. What made the staffer helpful was his recommendation of other pet food stores nearby. Instead of just saying no they tried their best to point me in the direction where I could be satisfied. Yup that kleptomaniac dog is mine. . emptying every displays under 40" in seconds and re-arranging the pet store as we breeze through. You should see the faces at the big chain pet stores when we arrive and he empties a bin of tennis balls behind me in the time it takes me to look at a price tag. Sure he knows 'leave it' and 'drop it' but you've got to be chief warden to keep him from nabbing something and trying to sneak out the doors with it. At Mud Bay he slows down and actually stops to regard his selection before picking up anything. He's on his best behavior in fact: sitting, shaking, and giving hi-5s to anyone who passes. Perhaps he knows any staff member he encounters may just have a treat for him. The staff is wonderful, informative, and enjoy their four legged visitors. It may be a chain but it always feels like you're in a small business who cares about their customers. Samples are bonus, but we come for the sheer selection of quality products at reasonable prices. read more

The parking lot here isn't accessible from the main part of U.Village, so you have to go around to park. But on the other hand, the lot has usually been pretty empty when I visit as opposed to the main parking lots where you have to fight for a space. The staff here have been very friendly and helpful -- I usually come to this location or to the Overlake one to get cat supplies for my two supersized Maine Coons, and often end up tossing a cat toy or treat into the bag just for their entertainment. The range of food (and toys!) available is impressive and of high quality -- when the cat food recall came through, I switched to Avoderm, which they both like a lot. read more

I've also purchased other items there, and really appreciated that they do engraved tags on demand, because kitty lost his and could not go back outside until we got another one, and he REALLY WANTED TO GO OUTSIDE!! The best part of Mud Bay are it's associates. They are knowledgable, friendly, and genuinely want to help. When our regular pet food (cat & dog) was recalled, the staff had number of alternatives, all a which our pets ate. When I mentioned my dog's disinterest in food, the associate educated me on aging pets and smell, and offered number of food therapies without trying to "up sell" a more expensive brand. I love this local store. I go here for my dog's bones as it's the only place in Seattle (that I have found) that carries this specific brand. There has only been one time out of the 100 times I have visited this store that they have been out of stock. The employees are awesome, always friendly and I always see then helping people carry heavier items to their vehicles. The store also always has either a sample of a cat or dog treat at the checkout. The one star knock off is for the prices are a bit more than say a chain pet store but I guess that is to be expected. This doesn't stop me from go there though. read more

My cats thank me everyday that I go here. I usually visit the Greenwood location (it's closer), but originally started going here. Staff is so friendly - and knowledgeable! I was looking for a certain type of food, that in stock they only had tiny bags. Yay! I love mud bay! It's such a nice alternative to Petco or PetSmart - I can always find really unique items here such as Da Bird and Freeze Dried Salmon Treats (my cats go bonkers for them!) I also was talking to them about their return policy since my cat has been having *ahem* digestive issues. The women who worked there suggested pumpkin since it has a ton of fiber, and even gave me a can for free! Pretty amazing and this would never happen at a big chain. Again, the Village. Hey, its in my watershed and on occasion not a bad place to shop. I have been going here for years. They were great to us when we had an elderly dog and cat and needed treats to coax them to eat. We even visited to buy dog treats and toys when we were dogless, its a great place to shop. This place was a god send when we first got our new puppy. He was so in need of attention by others and was so fidgety that I took him here at the early age of 11 weeks. He loved it and they love him. He visits weekly for treats and scritches. He even gets antsy when we drive up because he knows he's going to Mud Bay. I really enjoy coming here...it may be smaller than the chain pet stores, but it's still packed with so many goodies! The people are pretty nice there as well. I can usually find some of the treat puzzles here that I can't find anywhere else. The puppy loves his treat puzzles! My only problem with this place was that their bulk treat food is kind of low on the ground. It makes walking past it with the puppy VERY difficult as he smells the yummy treats and just HAS to try to eat them. Which leads to a bit of a struggle between Mommy and puppy...and makes Mommy look like she has NO control over her puppy even though he's usually VERY good in every other situation. I mean, you can't blame him when there are like 10 treat bins within his nose/jumping range that are just out in the open. Right? Oh man, maybe Mud Bay is just trying to tell me I AM a bad Mommy. Love this place and my dog does too... Every time we go... my dog goes in with... on leash of course! Even though she knows her manners, she always literally drags me to the door. On the way out, she knows we've finished and returns to her normal behaved self of healing and not yanking my arm off. She always gets love and attention and offered a treat. When I ask what type of treat it is, they don't give me any hassle and find something that she can have. They treat the owners well also and always ask if they can be of help. Since my dog has a special diet (under 10% fat and below 22% protein), I can ALWAYS find treats here that she can eat and are good for her. That's NOT an easy thing. There is one special treat that we go to get all the time, to give medications with, and anytime they are out of the size that we normally get (it's the largest one of the Lamb Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance® Dog Food Roll), they ALWAYS give me a rain check with money off to use the next time we come in. This is a great place to find treats that are grain free, organic, etc, etc... Pretty much anything you can think of for any companion's diet... Even though I don't buy kibble here (since I have to buy it from the vet because it's prescription), from what I've seen on their shelves... It's DEFINITELY high quality... both canine and feline... For all the other normal dog and cat accessories, leashes, collars, toys, etc... They DEFINITELY have a good selection... I could find variations of my dogs' favorite treats that I had never seen before, which is really hard to believe considering how often I shop for them! Try the chewy (gingerbread man shaped) buddy snacks! I recommend the peanut butter, roasted chicken, and bacon varieties!
