First experience with Companions First…read more.. We adopted our cat, Rachael, from a foster family who had taken her to Companions First for three years and an oral surgery before we adopted in 2017. Rachael suddenly had more mouth issues last night (2022), prompting a flurry of calls when businesses opened today. Our first call was to see what Companions First recommended and what records they had... there was some back and forth, but I would like to give special thanks to receptionists Dan for giving me the number for two urgent care facilities, and Lisa for calling the foster family for us and retrieving our cat's medical records for us. Of course, office hours and available time is scarce for vets, but I commend the reception staff for quick response and going above and beyond to help us and our adopted fur-daughter.

Based on bloodwork and X-rays, we were told he likely had a terminal tumor on his spleen. We then followed up with our regular vet, Cheyenne, on 4/21. After spending nearly $900 on an ultrasound, Dr. Gross told us our dog had no life-threatening concerns. He specifically stated that his kidneys, liver, and small intestine looked fine, and that there was no mass on his spleen. We were told to simply return in one week for follow-up bloodwork and a urinalysis. Just five days later, on 4/26, our family -- including my 12-year-old son -- watched our Ziggy pass away suddenly in our driveway. When I called to inform Dr. Gross, he didn't even have the courtesy to return my call for 10 days. He finally called back on 5/6 and admitted he would need to follow up with the ultrasound specialist because "something was missed." He told me he would get back to me by 5/8. Of course, there was no follow-up, and when I contacted the office again, I was simply told he still hadn't heard anything. As of 5/22, there has still been no follow up. After our visit to Rivers, we were emotionally preparing to lose our dog. However, Cheyenne gave us hope and assured us he was fine and had no life-threatening condition. Clearly, something major was missed, and our dog died traumatically in front of our family. The lack of compassion, communication, accountability, and follow-up from Dr. Gross is beyond unacceptable. I would strongly recommend taking your pet elsewhere. I would never want another family to experience the traumatic loss that we went through. To place your trust in a veterinarian and then receive no closure afterward is devastating. His actions -- or lack thereof -- only reinforce that something was seriously overlooked. Although I thought I had prepared myself it was extremely difficult to experience. I was advised that eventually he would cap out with what could be done. The doctors and staff worked closely with me and any time I would call they responded immediately. It is now the end of February 2024, and something has troubled me that from August to December they heard from Buddy and I quite frequently. Since Buddy passed away it's been as if he was forgotten and there were no sentiments or condolences offered for a pet and his devoted owner who suddenly disappeared from receiving care. No one wonders where we've been? It has been quite sad, and as a pet dad I am lost without him. But I do appreciate everything they did, sometimes a bit more matter of factly and what seemed to be unsympathetically than I was able/willing to hear. Grief is a very tough thing to handle. He was not just a dog, he was part of the family and treated as such. I do not expect anything from this review other than the recognition that our pets are important to us and their longevity and outcomes being minimized is a very sensitive matter.

Person at the front desk told me they were full and had no appointments open. Drove To BelaCoop Animal Hospital. Walked in with my puppy. Three people at the front desk immediately jumped up to help. They took her back and started her on an IV. Our puppy is fine thanks to them. They took great care of her and called us a couple days later to check that everything was still fine.
