I've been in East TX for 7 years and Marshall has been the town I have yet to explore. Pietro's is located on the main strip downtown and it is in a quaint part of town. Very lovely area - so we were excited to give this a try. Everything here was pretty good, fresh, and flavorful. The service was attentive and provided good recommendations. I wasn't the biggest fan of the pizza due to the crust. Hard to compare to Crust and Crumb in White Oak. If you're in Marshall, certainly give this a try. This is one of my favorite places for pizza! I wouldn't recommend it during the holidays, especially with Wonderland of Lights going on, only because they don't take reservations and we tried to go on a Saturday night and they wouldn't take our party of 8 due to limited seating. Any other time we've gone, we've been immediately seated. The service is always very attentive and on point. I love the open kitchen where you can see them making the pizzas. I liked the caprese with mozzarella, but my husband didn't like the basil. I wish it had a little more balsamic and olive oil, but a pinch of salt really brings it all together. Coming from an Italian family, I wouldn't get the meatball sub again. My husband loved it, but I didn't like the meatball's taste or texture. It is a big portion though so it's a good value if you're not picky about meatballs. The real reason we come is for the pizza. It's so good! The crust is crispy and garlicky, the cheese is melty, the Italian sauce has that classic fresh and acidic touch, and it's so flavorful. We drive almost 40 minutes just for this pizza. Drove by this place a few times and one day we decided to stop and go in. They were fairly busy at dinner time. You can order pasta, salads, calzones, pizza pies or by the slice.. delicious desserts. We ordered a pizza, cooked in their really nice pizza oven.... It was delicious. Super impressed by the pizza. Oh they also make a whole oven roasted chicken meal, they need about 30 minutes or so, call ahead time to prepare it. We'll be going back again and again. It's so good. We did sit out of the patio and enjoyed the weather and friendliness of the other people out there. It was chilly inside but I usually bring a sweater into any restaurant. Some street traffic but not terribly loud.. Pacer is usually there and he's really nice and tries to stay on top of the service, pizza prep etc. read more

The pizza was ok. The dough was maybe a little bit grittier than I like but it was fine. The server was also fine - they took our orders in a somewhat timely manner and checked in. For ambiance it was a lively spot for a Monday night! Definitely a place to bring families or groups rather than if you want something quiet and intimate. They also don't have very many options for those with dietary restrictions. I planned to dine here with a large group and put my name on the waitlist at 5:00 p.m. I was told the wait would be about an hour and a half then provided my name and phone number. When I checked back at 6:20 p.m., I was told it would be another hour. At 7:00 p.m., I was again told the wait would be an hour and a half. This level of inaccuracy is unacceptable. Because of the constantly changing and unreliable wait times, I was unable to put my name in elsewhere and wasted the entire evening waiting. Had I been given an accurate estimate, I would have chosen another restaurant. As an out-of-town visitor, this left me with no option but to drive home without dining here at all. Accent brick wall, beautiful marble tables & uncomfortable wood/metal seats. The menu had small print & very small descriptive print to which I had to remove my prescription glasses & use my nearsightedness to read it. FOOD - Mushroom Bruschetta - A little much on the balsamic vinegar. It overpowered the dish. That was all I tasted. Spinach Ravioli - Massive raviolis. Perfect blend of flavor & salt with small chunks of tomato. The handmade bread is dense & has a touch of rosemary. STAFF - Very attentive and hospitable. ABSOLUTELY THE WORST SERVICE WE'VE HAD AT RESTAURANT OF THIS CALIBER. Never, have we had to ask for our one and only drink refill. Only came by the table ONCE, right after the food was brought out by someone else. Had to wait over 45 minutes for our entrees. It's a good thing we ordered an appetizer. Food was good, thank goodness. I really wanted to order desert, but that was NEVER even offered. The previous times we've made the 45+ minute drive over we were very impressed. Not today. Will probably not be back. Too many other places to go. The hubs finally left the table and went outside. I ask for a to go container for my half eaten meal (it wasn't offered) and the check. Never ordered my desert and I hate that because they're generally good. But I won't spend another nickel in this place. Didn't realize that it had been this long since I reviewed Pietro's. It's still going strong, and has added some attractions. Most notable new feature is a very deep (not just deep for Marshall, mind you) but a VERY deep wine list. As you would expect, Italian wines dominate, but there are many other choices. It's won a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence and was the subject of a feature in Texas Montly. Just to give one very small expample, do you know any other small town in Texas where you can have 2006 Biondi Santi (Tenuta Greppo) Brunello di Montalcino Riserva for dinner, after starting out with a Krug Grand Cuvee for an aperitif? Not a fan of Brunello, then you can choose from four Roberto Voerzio Borolos, including the Reserve Case Nere. Seriouis stuff, indeed. Pizza is very good as are the salads. I haven't tried a pasta dish in a while, but they're at leas OK. But with a wood burning overn, pizza, calzone, ets. are the feature and deservedly so. Joseph, the owner, is very often on premises. They have also opened a steak place around the corner (and connected through the kitchen called Tavalo 13. It is top notch, too. read more

What a delightful Italian place in Marshall,TX. Very authentic presentation and taste. We both ordered 9 inch pizzas and we were pleasantly surprised by how large the portions were. We actually got 2 meals out of our pizzas. The Florentino was a delicious combination of fresh ingredients. Our server was attentive and even brought us bread and olive oil while we waited. While RVing through East Texas, we spent the night in Marshall. We didn't plan to eat out but forgot to defrost anything for dinner. Searching thru Yelp, we found Pazzeria By Pietro, an Italian restaurant and pizzeria. It had high marks so we headed out. The restaurant has some traditional Italian-American appetizers, salads, main dishes, pastas, and pizza. They also have an excellent selection of wines, beers (including Italian), cocktails, and desserts. We saw several tables being served eye-catching pizzas and decided that's what we wanted. We ordered two 9 in pizzas, pretending they were one for each of us, but we wanted to try several. We ordered the Five Boroughs and the Quatro Stagioni pizzas with a Baladin (Italian) Blonde Ale. The pizzas had a nice light, chewy crust (almost Napolean) with the toppings sending the right signals to our taste buds: salty, creamy, spicy. Really a treat. The light Italian beer was a light, crisp palate cleanser. I'm sure one of the house wines would have been great too. My wife ordered the cheese cake for dessert and it was plenty for the two of us, but made us wish we ordered another slice to go, for our morning coffee. If you find yourself in Marshall for any reason (fishing, RVing, Christmas festival), make this one of your stops. read more

A colleague who lives in NJ told me about this restaurant while we were eating pizza in Oakland, CA. So I decided I would try the pizza the next time I was in Marshall, TX. Went today and the pizza is good. While I prefer Neapolitan-Style pizza, I liked the flavor and texture of this pizza. The restaurant has a great open and bright feel and it is right across from the Federal Courthouse. I hope to try the pasta and speak some more with the interesting proprietor my next trip out. What can I say....GREAT! The atmosphere is so chill and cozy and it was very welcoming as well. The staff made me feel very at ease and it was comfortable talking about their menu as a first timer. The worse part about this place is the food. The next thing that sucks is the service. It's alway crowded. The pizza is sweet , almost like it has sugar in it. I ordered the spare rib and it was over cooked and over salted. It also tasted horrible. It's actually more sad than anything. The owner was a jerk to me when I accidentally left me card at home. Once I went out with my kids to celebrate and I forgot my card. I wasn't able to pay and had no way to use Apple Pay. I felt horrible and since I just lived Dow the street I asked the owner to just let me go grab my card. It sucked but I figured a restaurant has this happen and I was hoping the owner would be cool. The worse thing is I knew him. He wasn't kind or cool about it. He was in total disbelief and proceeded to interrogate me and I was like, "dude just give me 5 minutes and I'll be right back." Finally he said that I need to leave my driver's license there. I was okay with that and came right back. Ever since then he would say hello to every table and ceremoniously skip over ours. I have no clue why he'd single me out over a mistake like that. The food was so bad I felt sorry for the guy and the place. I ordered a charcuterie board and it looked like something my kid would make at home with some Ritz crackers. The servers are not happy so I always felt rushed and like the place wasn't treating them right. I hope they can invest more in their food to bring the quality up to a restaurant level. Bad service, the owner has a horrible attitude and that's not just me saying that. I have encountered several other Marshall residents who say it's been the way it is - with this owner and the service and quality of food - for a long, long time and that it will never change. The final straw for me was the owner of this establishment, posting on a local Facebook group for restaurants "Marshall Delivers", had a post up about coming "tonight" for dinner and some special that I can't recall now. When we arrived that night, the place was closed for a private party. Mind you, this owner had posted earlier that day that it was going to be open to the public that night and there was no mention of it being closed for a private function.
