PC Parlor saved me from spending $$$$ on unnecessary fixes. Basically, for the last few years, I've been having some growing problems with my ancient MacPro (2007). Sometimes, when I powered up my computer, my display would not turn on, but the fan would be running wild constantly inside the tower. Then at times, when i wake my computer up from sleep mode, the display would not turn on. I would personally clean out the dust buildup inside the tower, & the computer would work fine at times, but not for long. Until recently, my computer decided to die on me. It would not power up at all. I've tried unplugging/replugging everything, clean out any dust buildups, etc. but to no success. I'd researched online to find any sort of solutions, and I thought the problem pointed to a failed PSU. I was wrestling with: Do I get it checked out by a technician first & save me time & guess work to fix the actual problem? OR Do I change the PSU part myself & save money on labor? However, what if it isn't the PSU? What if it's something else? Well, I'm glad I got it checked out by a technician from PC Parlor. I'd researched on Yelp to find a reliable technician nearby. That's when I found PC Parlor. I called them & gave them the rundown. The receptionist was very patient, polite, & helpful. She even went as far as to ask me if I still had AppleCare (expired), so I don't have to spend any money on tests/repairs on a tech. She told me exactly what to bring with me (display, tower, all applicable cords/power adapters). She told me the cost of a diagnostic test. She was even helpful with giving me directions because I guess it's tricky to find even with an imperfect GPS. Therefore, I took it in & left my computer with one of the tech. He told me it'll take about 2-3 business days to get everything checked out. The receptionist called me within 2 days giving me an update on my computer. Basically, she told me that my computer was really filthy & dusty inside. After one of their tech, Ali, did a complete cleaning, my computer booted & started working fine. She told me the tech was still doing some extra tests just to be extra certain but will be ready for pick-up later that day. When I went in to pick up my computer, Ali told me what/how he cleaned the inside my computer. He even turned off/on the computer to make sure everything worked. They only charged me for just the diagnostic test fee (1hr.), $65. No hidden, unexpected extra fee(s). They were very generous. In a way, they also saved me from spending money on an unnecessary PSU. Phew!! Ali even helped me load up my heavy computer into my car. I appreciate all the extra miles they took to fix my computer & beyond. Now I get the pleasure of writing this well-deserved Yelp review on my newly revived computer. Thank you, PC Parlor, for bringing my Mac back to life. This is a 5-star review for PC Parlor, and especially Eric. My mom fell victim to a common hoax where ultimately a 'hacker' was able to remotely access and control her computer. Aside from helping her turn on airplane mode and remotely change her important passwords, the situation was beyond me. The potential for an ongoing security breach was obvious, so we thought it best to bring the laptop in to an expert, who could re-secure it and make appropriate recommendations. But who to trust for honest advice, to not up-sell on products or overcharge on time, to do a thorough job, and to treat my somewhat technologically challenged mother with kindness? There were so many places to choose from within a 5 mile radius, but I chose PC Parlor because of their rave reviews for the integrity and kindness of their staff, paired with their competitive rates. (When it comes to sifting through endless choices on Yelp, I'm all about the quality over quantity of reviews!) Also, I really liked the small-business, non-flashy feel given off by their website and photos :D Eric did not disappoint, and in fact wowed our expectations. I emailed them (a somewhat lengthy story) in advance, so my mom would not have to explain what happened when she got there. Eric responded promptly, and his email was warm, personal, and gave me confidence that he would be expecting my mom. My mom walked in, introduced herself, and Eric knew who she was - I can't tell you how much of a relief this was for her, as she felt incredibly overwhelmed and helpless with the situation to begin with. Eric explained his plan and what she should expect - in layman's terms - and then my mom conveniently was on her way to get on with her day. He called promptly, when he said he would, explained his findings to her, and told her he fixed the problem with XYZ. Simple and stress free, problem fixed in half a day (your mileage will obviously vary with the size of your computer problem), laptop back home working worry-free like it never happened - what a relief the whole experience was :) My mom was so impressed by Eric's professionalism and the outstanding service he and PC Parlor provided, that she asked me to leave a review. There's a 21st axiom that states, "Good karma brings good karma." Truer words were never more spoken when it comes to PC Parlor in Torrance. Just like any other reputable, credible, and honest service, you treat customer clients right and they'll not only return, but they will spread the word about you to everyone else, in this case, on the Internet. Before the Internet, it was all by word of mouth. The Internet now serves as the satisfied customer spreading the good news, or conversely the unhappy and irate customer spreading the bad news. But PC Parlor doesn't have to worry about that. Several days ago a black, blinking horizontal bar appeared on my laptop screen. I had no idea what caused it. Desiring a reputable and credible computer repair service that was competent and did not overcharge, I checked Yelp. There were several computer repair services listed with fairly good reviews but PC Parlor caught my attention with its list of high reviews and long write-ups accompanying the reviews. I read a few which impressed me with satisfied customers extolling the friendly, competent technician service. I decide to make contact the next day. Several good signs encouraged me. The friendly lady receptionist gave me accurate driving directions to the business. Upon arriving I saw a happy customer exiting the front doors carrying her laptop, another good sign. Upon entering, I was greeted by several of the employees. The friendly lady receptionist was there but, sorry, I forgot her name for this review. There was a quiet employee in the background but I learned he was a technician trainee. The other technicians, Ali Karimi and Eric Sund greeted me as if I were a favored repeat customer. The business owner, Tony Musorafite, was not present. They both listened as I explained the problem with my laptop as it booted up. Eric and I had a quick discussion about the dangers of bogus pop-up windows with an audio voice telling you it was downloading a virus onto your computer and demanding ransom payment to release your computer. The best thing to do is immediately turn off your computer and do not click anywhere on the rogue pirate window. When the laptop booted up, Ali took over and Eric returned to his other work. Ali inserted a diagnostic disk and rebooted the computer. He checked several things on the laptop. In the meantime, Ali helped solve a problem with an over-sensitive touchpad mouse on my laptop. He knew where to find the commands to lower the sensitivity of the touchpad mouse. No, it was not on 'Settings', where I already searched; it was somewhere I would have never known where to look. In the end the horizontal blinking black bar vanished. Ali booted up the laptop again to recheck. Ali told me that he did not know exactly what caused the problem, but at least the black bar was gone. Nonetheless he advised me to return if the black bar reappeared. I asked Ali how much did I owe him for all this. To my pleasant surprise, he replied, "Nothing." I did not know that such complimentary diagnostic assessment still exists. But this is brilliant. This is how you gain happy customers who happily spread the news about your company verbally and on the Internet. If I do have to return and pay for computer repairs, it will be with PC Parlor. It's like finding a skilled, reputable, honest car repair service. You'll go back there again and again. Yelp guidelines state that you cannot review a business if you receive a freebie as a quid pro quo, but I did not know my diagnostic assessment would be free until it was done so it was not quid pro quo. My review is part of my thanks but my motive is to write a good review for a business that deserves it and people who need good computer repair service should know of it. I can't really say what the repair fees are but I clicked on, 'moderate', because no computer repair business can operate like a fast food business. You do have to pay some significant amount for repair but unhappy customers who feel overcharged would click on, 'pricey' or more. I accidentally broke off one of the keys on my laptop and was afraid that I would have to replace the entire keyboard (replacing an individual key is pretty tricky especially if you don't have a key that exactly matches the broken one). Luckily, however, Ali is so skilled that he was able to reattach the key right then and there, despite the fact that the underlying plastic parts broke when I popped it out. I found PC parlor while searching for reputable laptop repair services, and this place lives up to the hype. I brought in my laptop that randomly shutdown (overheating) and immediately was attended by one of their technicians. When i powered on my laptop infront of them it started making a cracking sound and all of their workers stood up, which i thought it was kinda funny. Tony right away grabbed my laptop and used one of their fans they had to blow the back of my laptop . It immediately turned on , however, he said if it continues to give me problems to bring it back in. The reason for the 5 stars is for their integrity. They did not charge me a dime for something they thought of as an easy fix. Tony gave me a suggestion to start thinking about buying a new laptop, as mine is over 7 years old. As my luck would have it, my aging computer decided to take a permanent vacation right before I was supposed to take my vacation for the 4th of July weekend. My computer recently appeared to emit a burning smell that went away after a few seconds, but proceeded to work without issues. Paranoid that my machine was damaged, I decided to get it checked out. After calling about 12 repair centers, I spoke to the Corey and Eric at PC Parlor, who were very helpful. They walked through different repair scenarios over the phone and various options to save costs. What I appreciated most is that their diagnostic fee is applied to the repair, where most of the places I spoke to charged a separate repair fee on top of the diagnostic fee. Their rates were also very reasonable, so I decided to take my computer there. It took only 10 minutes for them to determine that there was nothing wrong with my computer. The burning smell was most likely coming from a faulty power surge strip. On top of that, Tony cleaned out my computer (you won't believe how many dust bunnies were blown out of what I thought was a clean machine) and gave me some advice on purchasing a battery backup. Since my computer seemed to be working fine, they didn't charge me, even though they clearly spent time on it. In this day and age, it's rare to find an honest company that isn't out to gouge their customers. They could have told me my PSU needed replacement or that other components in the computer were damaged. Instead, they saved me money and made my day.
