This is walk-up counter food service. Polished concrete floors, high open ceiling, minimalist, interior with comfortable seating, and by all appearances clean. Lamb gyro on warm pita was really good, generous, and filling the best I've had in a while, and for I think $3.99 I gott a sizeable chunk of baklava, one of the few items not made in-house. It was moist and sweet, and according to my tastes, was made with honey as opposed to simple sugar solution (sugar water), absolutely delicious, and was of a size that might have cost a lot more elsewhere. NeService was courteous and efficient. Cost, Including beverage (and I think couple dollar tip but maybe I did or not?), was $18.55 on 10/9/24.

Came here for a quick dinner after hitting the golfing range! I ordered the chicken gyro and really enjoyed it. I wish there was more outside seating but we sat inside. The first table we sat at was a little wobbly so we had to switch tables. The guy who took our order was so kind and he talked to us afterward. So friendly! My meal was very tasty! So much chicken inside! They also had some sauces to try by the soda machine. Flavors were great and filling! Prices were very fair ~$11 for my gyro. Overall a really nice meal!

Wow ! I should have read the lowest reviews, before trying this place! It was by far the worst gyros I've ever tried to stomach! I really can't even call it a gyros! More like a small meatball sandwich they make from lamb and beef? I think. They grab about 12 or 14 small pieces of this meat from the refrigerator and throw it on the hot grill with plenty of oil then cook the shit out of it . Throw it on a dried out piece of pita bread then add lettuce onions & tomato and some sauce. The meat tastes burnt,old and just plain disgusting! I'm truly amazed they can stay in business. But please don't take my word for it . If by some chance you just want to blow 10 bucks but aren't really hungry, try it out and see what you think! And if you do try it and throw it in the garbage where it belongs, there's a Publix close by you can swing by and get a decent sub sandwich...

All I could say is wow. The food is absolutely delicious. It's fresh and exactly what I was looking to eat tonight. I will absolutely be back to this place, there is no doubt about it. Absolutely excellent.

Ordered this for lunch at work since it was recommended by my coworkers! Will 100% come back again and again and again!!!! This was DELISH. My first experience with Mediterranean food so wasn't totally sure what to expect. The Beef & Lamb Shawarma was AMAZING. The Jalapeño Cilantro hummus was so good and so fresh. I was adding a little to my Shawarma as well! I also got an extra side of their garlic sauce which was amazing if you like garlic. It comes on the Shawarma- but when did a little extra garlic ever hurt anyone?

This was just up the street from my hotel and I chose it more for its proximity than anything else, but after tasting the food, I can say that I was very pleased with my dinner choice. First, let me say that it is by no means fancy. It is a place you order at the counter and within moments they bring your tray to you. I opted for the traditional gyro bowl and found it loaded with meat over a bed of lettuce and a healthy dollop of tzatziki sauce. I accented it with some of their hot sauces, liking their hotter red sauce and the cilantro sauce along with the tzatziki sauce. I will also say that I liked the gyro meat, cut into thick chunks for the bowl as opposed to the slimmer, longer slices. They also had a good char for being heated on the flat top. Dinner was under ten dollars and offered a satisfying late dinner. If I find myself back in this area, this will be a definite return trip. I recommend if you find yourself here and find yourself craving a gyro or something similar, you come check this place out to. Or if you live here, you might find it one of your regular go to places.

Welcome to Hummus Heaven ! I have found a new favorite in JVille. The south can be a troubling place when you're following special diets. All the chain restaurants can be tempting. Peño brings a different flavor literally to the area. The falafel here is a game changer! Extra Crisp. Fresh. Flavorful! I'm from NY and not even Mamoun's can top this ! Really delicious falafel ! So many different fresh salads available and food. I was blown away by the variety of hummus here. Jalapeño, roasted red pepper etc. When I arrived they were grilling eggplant for the babagonoush. I had to try a sample ! I decided to order some to take home. Soooo flavorful !!!!!!! Everything here is so flavorful! Tastes very freshly prepared. I decided on the falafel bowl which is a salad bowl. They are very generous with the hummus here. There was a heaping pile of hummus on my salad. My stomach is doing the tootsie roll right now ! Vegetarians, this is definitely a great place for lunch while in the area. Customer service was excellent !

On my lunch expedition I ran into the Food Truck on New River Air Station. My goal was to find something completely veggie and delicious. They made me something called the Love sandwich and it is beyond my expectation. Thank you so much for making my lunch break pretty amazing!!! I was actually really excited about this place until I became a regular and my order started coming back incorrect. I hate leaving reviews but this is the 3rd time I have ordered in person and my order was not handled with care. I typically order the same thing a chicken gyro which to my understanding is a combination of chicken, veggies and white sauce. The first time my order was placed in a platter with the ingredients scattered. Which was inconvenient considering this was a to go order. This time it was replaced with a chicken shawarma which is supposed to be made with chicken potatoes and similar ingredients to the classic one. Normally I just eat the incorrect order, but this time there was French fries (potatoes, which is super lazy but nonetheless) in my gyro which is super unhealthy for my dietary restrictions. Now my issue is not the order being incorrect, it is when I ask for compensation and the attitude I receive is rude. As if I'm responsible for the lack of communication. To my understanding it's the chefs job to ask for specifics, considering I don't work here and don't know all of the items on the menu. This is the second time I have asked for compensation and the feedback I receive is annoyance. The first time I ordered falafel's which for some reason weren't sticking which is fine. But when I asked for my money back, the response I received was "do you want something else." Worker or owner or general person when there's a misunderstanding with a customer and a business it's obvious that the customer is looking for compensation. Especially if they are a regular. And also French fries are not a substitute for potatoes when this place is marketed as a healthy fast food chain. The same way I don't expect French fries in my potato dishes at Panera is the same way I don't expect it in a place that uses "healthy eating" as their marketing tactic. Being that I live 20 minutes away without traffic, I will not be back. Be very specific with your order and do not become too friendly. Other than this the food is normally good. Unfortunately I'm a 3 strikes you're out type of person. Posting a pic for reference....

Was excited to be in Jacksonville and see Peno because I LOVE THE ONE I. CHARLOTTE. I ordered the Casada bowl. Not only did they forget my sauce, there was barely and chicken and it was Overwhelmingly dry everything dry. Definitely gave me old food because it was far from fresh

I can't justify nearly $20 for this. Chicken was very bland and gristley. I got the kabobs, fries, grape leaves, and Caesar salad. Pretty bummed because I was hoping it be a lot better. The staff was very friendly and food was served fast. read more

Not your average fast food. I never spend a long time waiting here. Their carribean wrap and chicken shawarma wraps are amazing. The French fries dipped in the light green sauce -amazing. The jalapeño hummus ... amazing !! read more

I decided to give this place another try and we stopped in for lunch today. We ordered two chicken shawarma wraps (one on pita and one in a tortilla). We got falafel as our side and ordered two small containers of classic hummus and Tzatziki sauce. Today, the falafel was much better and not burned. Everything was fresh and delicious. I tried three of the 6 complimentary sauces and they were also great. This is my favorite spot in Jacksonville, at the moment. I'm happy to have this option. read more

When I came in it wasn't busy. My order was taken right away. The food is good. Service is great. However, as I glanced around, I noticed some of the table tops were dirty. The staff really needs to take the initiative to restock items. I couldn't find a single napkin in this place. Please, I understand some items are costly & there's cut backs, but C'mon! Put out some napkins for people to wipe their hands on! Also, you guys have sauces off to the side for your customers to "self-serve" but there was a bunch of tiny lids & only one empty sauce container was there. At least one of those could be found. read more

Definitely worth the $! It's not super expensive but a little more pricey than just a casual fast food place. The food has always been so delicious and fresh. Their tzatziki sauce is out of this world amazing and the lamb perfect! For sure recommend! I only gave it 4 stars out of 5 because sometimes they go a little sparring on the tzatziki sauce but overall some of the best Mediterranean food I've ever had. read more

I wanna take a moment and not talk about the food but focus on their baklava. I took a bite of this pastry and heard birds sing.. I'm not kidding. It's so moist and not overbearingly sweet. I'm guessing they blend their nut filling instead of just dumping a whole mess of nuts on there like most places do. You're not constantly having to chew this. Peño has been opened for awhile in town and we just never went. I've personally never had a gyro before but my husband has had them from Greece. We tried it out for lunch and ordering was smooth. We both got a gyro combo which comes with a side & drink for around $8. Great deal! I had the classic gyro and it was very good. The only small I mean very small thing I'd say is that the lamb slices were chucks not slices. Traditionally it's in slices. But other than that, all of it was very fresh and flavorful! Lots of side item options and vegetarian options! 7.8/10 !! Would recommend & come back way more often! read more

I ordered some Gyros= 2 of them because Jesses is closed. I open them and knew something was wrong right away. The lamb was in chunks not strips so you could get a bite in every bite of the sandwich, most of my chucks were thick for the bread , so the bread just fell apart. The meat was burned (black) on half of it the other half was not the nice lamb color This proves they don't cook it on the rotisserie like supposed to. I will never get another. I will warn people not to either,you will not enjoy them. For a so-called Mediterranean Restaurant POOR. read more

The Greek salad was the bomb. Also the Jalapeño cilantro hummus was the best I've ever had since it's taste was complex- the hummus flavor starts then cilantro kicks in and finally you are left with a little kick to remind you of the greatness you just consumed. read more

Fairly simple, but good size menu with plenty of options. There are plenty of seating options with tables, booths, and outdoor tables as well. While we were waiting and eating there were several to go orders. Steady flow of customers in and out. They also have a great music selection! After a short wait our delicious gyros arrived. The presentation was nothing flashy, but good. The fires were seasoned just right for me, but a little too salty for the wife. The gyros were as expected, delicious and a good size for us. The hummus plate was actually larger than expected, but a nice surprise. There was enough naan for sure. I did not take any pics this time. Overall experience was excellent honestly. We'll definitely eat here again. I recommend giving Olea Mediterranean Kitchen a try.

just really excellent Filipino food in an unexpected place like Jacksonville, North Carolina at…read moreslightly unreasonable value (great for the customer, but makes one question if the business can sustain it when charging so little for so much food). It was the first of three Filipino restaurants we visited on my wife's/my Carolina week long visit, and was the best out of all of them, even though by far it was the least expensive. Driving from Durham NC to Myrtle Beach, my wife and I took a longer route so we could eat at this 'Point-Point' steam table restaurant deep in the South. Steam table means everything is pre-cooked and sitting at a buffet station. The food can suffer in the same way that a buffet can: the food gets old fast and it definitely tastes different if you can get a fresh(er) batch vs one that has been sitting out for a while. We got there about 45 minutes before opening (opens at noon on a Sunday). It's in an isolated strip mall (seemingly in the middle of nowhere), with plenty of parking. As we waited in the car, we saw many prospective customers trying to get in. The doors opened promptly at 12 pm, and we were the 3rd party in line. The order taking process is intentionally slowed to allow the serving of the food to take place not long after it has been ordered and (pre)paid. This did mean that the line went out the door for our entire dine-in visit, and we got to see the make up of the regulars. Everyone was patient: it was very clear that it was mostly locals, coming not because they wanted Filipino food, but because they wanted good tasting food at a good price. It's a small dining area, but the vast majority of people were doing carry-out so there was always some seating available. They use Clover as the POS, and identify themselves as 'Filipino Cuisine'. We got the 3 choice combo plate ($16.99), served with white rice along with a can of coke ($1.99...no soda machine here) and a side of Ukoy ($2.50). There is a 4% surcharge for credit card use. Each choice was the size of a small a la carte portion, and one would have been enough for the two of us for lunch. The food was delivered to your table, and they will bus (or one can self-bus since a garbage can is available and everything is served in disposable containers). Ukoy - shrimp and vegetable fritter - really big piece and made that morning, so was still crispy. I really like vegetable fritters and this version was OK, a bit dry but that's what the accompanying vinegar dipping sauce was for. Pork Adobo - very tender meat, not too much fat, with added onions (what you would expect in a biftek). The amount of saltiness went perfectly with the white rice. Biftek - this had the sabaw of biftek, but the cut was cubed, meaning closer to caldereta. The beef cuts were just excellent (little gristle), very tender. This amount of beef would easily be $20 in a 'nice' Filipino restaurant. Pork Sinigang - really good, just the way I like it. Wasn't overly sour, with plenty of vegetables and generous amount of pork. The broth had definitely been skimmed of grease, resulting in a dish that was more homemade (where time is taken to do the skimming) than other turo-turo places I've been. Looking over the menu can tell you about the competition in the area, and it looks like Vietnamese Pho is pretty rare in Jacksonville. Turo Turo has Pho on their menu, and even modified their name to highlight it. I've found that many Filipinos like their dishes with all the extracted fat remaining, which makes much of their soup inedible for me (in that context, it's grease, not flavor-enhancing fat). But as noted, their sinigang was good, with most of the pork fat skimmed off the broth...so thinking their Pho is probably pretty good too. We've eaten at many, many Turo-Turo places (so many around where we live), and this place has to be near the top in terms of value and taste. Funny that it's in a place that we wouldn't expect, serving locals that one would expect in the area. Both of us really liked this restaurant, and the plentiful leftovers became our dinner that night with no regrets.

We were uncomfortably hot and sweating even before our food came out. Canned soda. Buy or lease a soda dispenser. You make more profits and can keep costs down. I really dislike restraints that serve only soda in cans, charge too much, then you have to ask for a cup and ice and there are no refills or larger portions.
