Peace Vans is a sophisticated van company that is great for camping and other outdoor activities. My family and I had a great experience in the van. Each van -ours was a beautiful blue that had a grey tinge-has a special pop top roof in which there is a bed that sleeps two kids comfortably. On the bottom, there are three seats that will fold into a bed for the adults (I'd say about 2 maximum). The driver and passenger seats swivels, and you could put pillows and sleeping bags in between for an additional sleeping area! My dad did that. If two kids don't want to sleep together, you can always get the sleeping kit which are pillows, sheets, sleeping bags, and a thermo-rest for extra comfort. My '87 Syncro had a fair amount of deferred maintenance. when i learned about peave vans from a neighborhood listserv, i was impressed by the level of detail on their website and set a full inspection. the whole shop was very knowledgeable and passionate about all-things vanagon, and knocked out lots of repairs on the first visit. they also gave me a thorough assessment of additional work needed, none of which was too alarming given the age of the van. i have it back in their shop now for more service. i recommend checking them out. read more

We were looking for a VW camper to rent for our honeymoon. We were so pleased to find Peace Vans had a rental service, as we had heard good things about the mechanics.  We let them know that were going to be honeymooners and we feel we got top notch service right from booking. Not only were they super cool and fun to work with, but they TOTALLY took care of us to make it special. They wrote "Just Married" on the back of the van, and gave us a bottle of champagne when we picked it up. Driving around in a Vanagon with Just Married written on the back got us so many honks, waves, thumbs ups, congrats and well wishes from people across the state! Our rental was called Pilchuck. We had 11 nights and no plans, so Peace Vans gave us some great maps with campground symbols that helped us plan the whole way (we didn't have cell signal, which was so nice to do the old fashioned way!) I can't say enough how nice the rental was. It was in amazingly great condition. It's hard to believe this van is almost 30 years old! It comes fully stocked with all the supplies one would need, even if you flew in from out of town. And, it's really good quality stuff - real nice knives, pots and pans and everything is in great condition and not the cheap stuff! They also supplied good Seattle coffee to get us going and a french press. It was perfect. Oh and a great bluetooth speaker! We went all across WA. We started out on the Mountain Loop Highway to HWY 20. This is beautiful a route - we saw jetting snow capped mountains in the North Cascades. We headed on through the Methow Valley to the Okanongan Forest and the Selkirk Mountains and then down through the desert to the Grand Coulie Damn and on through hwy 155 with coulies on both sides, stopped at Dry Falls and back to Seattle. We camped every night in the camper: slept soundly in the van and got up to explore every morning!  The 3 window tent is super cool because you can see outside, but you're cozy inside. The van is so easy to pack in and out for optimal road trip fun.  We had so much fun, we texted them half way through and asked for another night, and we got it! Ok, so here's the part you've all the been waiting for: What about if something in this 30 year old van goes wrong while you're on your trip?! Well, we had the power steering belt go out about 3 days into our trip. We didn't have service for most of our trip including when it went out. We were just pulling into an RV park in  a teeny town called Marblemount when it went out and steering suddenly got really hard. We asked the resort to use the phone and called the two phone numbers Peace Vans provided. It was about 7pm on a Thursday. Right away we got an answer and they were on it, figuring out what to do, whether there was a mechanic local to us or how to proceed. We ended up staying at the RV park that had Wifi so we could FaceTime and iMessage with a mechanic at 8pm! They settled on sending a Peace Van mechanic in the morning!!! So, we made breakfast and went fishing across the street, and were back by 11, when Lance, a mechanic from Peace Vans rolls up in another Westy with a cardboard box full of tools and has us up and running in about 20 minutes! What service! And, with that we were on our way! We looked into a lot of rental companies, a few in Canada that got really bad reviews about people getting stranded with mechanical failures. This will not happen with Peace Vans rentals! Not only do they meticulously check out their vehicles before they go out - they also have mechanics all over to help out, or will send a mechanic from Seattle! Incredible peace of mind! So, now we've got our eyes on buying a Westy, of course... but if not, we know we can always rent one and be totally taken care of. I sold my unused vanagon middle seats to Jeff at his shop. While I was there, I got the tour of the place. They specialize in customizing Westfalias, but they will work on any non-camper versions also. If you got a weird idea for your van, these guys will listen and will try to find a solution. The shop is tucked in back of a warehouse and might be a bit hard to find the first time around. read more

This is it!! You need not look any further for a shop that will treat you right!! We are new owners of a Vanagon Synchro and have had almost every major problem you can have with these in the few short months we have owned it. We have experienced MANY shops that claim to have knowledge of VW's but NO ONE knows these vans like these guys!! Based on my prior interactions with them and their rave reviews from others, we recently drove about 800 miles just to have their opinion of our problem. We were on a 3-4 week road trip that had been derailed several times already due to major mechanicals and were just tired of trusting random shops to 'figure something out' at great time and cost and often not actually fixing the problem. We were fortunate enough to be able to have them give it a test drive on the weekend while they were technically not open (working on another project) and within 30 mins they had diagnosed and fixed the problem!!! It drove perfectly the rest of the way home, and even on some pretty rough logging roads!! Hearing them talk and seeing their knowledge in action was awe inspiring!! They know these vans inside and out!! Our van is anything but stock with a subaru conversion and many other aftermarket add ons but even all of that they had intimate knowledge of and we did not need to fill them in on all the complications therein. These guys are seriously the real deal and I cannot say enough good things about them. Not only are they incredibly knowledgable and honest in their love of these vans, but they are just darn nice and friendly people to talk to!! In order to ease the pain of our frustrating breakdown journey, Harley sent us an e-mail of all the local restaurant and entertainment options for while we are in town... this is an example of the extra mile these guys go to in order to help. Thanks to Harley, Ben and Corey for your wonderful work!! We live an hour out of Vancouver, BC and we have since decided this will be where we bring our van for all our work and maintenance in the future!! read more

Supremely disappointing. Brought my bus in for an estimate. The owner Harley strung me along for a couple weeks telling me that he was waiting on info from other people before he could give me a price. Several calls and emails to follow up were either not returned or met with evasive and vague explanations. In the last email I received, he admitted that they had not completed an estimate and had no intention to do so. Unprofessional owner who is content with wasting your time. read more

I don't typically write reviews but this one is well deserved. I've had 2 services done to my 87 Vanagon (one minor, one major) and both have been stellar. My van is running currently running better than ever. There is comfort in knowing that you have a shop that will treat you and your van right when a repair is necessary. Struggled with VW support for my 87 Vanagon for a few years since Porbug left the neighborhood. 1st experience with Peace Vans was a few weeks ago and their easy fix for long term irratation (audible oil pressure alarm) has been holding up great. I had used PeaceVans to completely restore the exterior of my 1895 Vanagon. They were incredible. The Bus gets compliments from everyone who sees it--including other mechanics and body shop professionals. Jeff's business is just started two years ago and form the read of a few negative posts you can rest assured he's had some loony customers (who knows why they expected a shop to look more like a spa then a shop but...) they expect the world revolves around them. Working on these buses is an imperfect art and Jeff makes it a perfect art. I've brought my bus to almost every mechanic that specilizes in VW vanagons in the Seattle metro area-Jeff is the best and the most responsive to your needs. Not knowing a ton about the inner workings of my Vanagon, I've really appreciated how thorough Peace Vans is in their process and I've always been completely satisfied with the work that they do. What I especially love is that they are all Westy/Vanagon enthusiasts, so they are more than willing to suggest other improvements/customizations/etc. that I could do to my vehicle.
