This is one of the better public courses and facilities in the Bay Area. They have a nice practice area right in front of the clubhouse and the Range Cafe is known to have pretty good food. The golf and restaurant staff I encountered is pretty friendly and attentive, too. I played on a weekday and the senior rate is $50 to walk. The greens are in pretty good shape but there are signs of some sort of disease on some. The rough and fairways are mostly fine but there are patches of crab grass. My ball actually came to rest on a large, tough crabgrass weed near the green and my wedge sort of bounced off it while chipping! I have played here many times over the years and although it's not as good as when it was first reopened, it's nice to have a good, affordable course in Marin County. read more

First off - the staff is great and very welcoming. Nice practice area and the clubhouse and related buildings have been rebuilt and are very nice. I have not played this course in over 20 years and heard it had been redone so I was looking forward to playing it. It appears greens and bunkers have been redone but the problem is the fairways, rough, and tee boxes are in terrible shape. The same condition I remember it when I played there 20 yrs ago - lots of bare spots, brown dead grass patches, crab grass patches, unlevel tee boxes, etc. It's difficult to play when you feel like you are hitting your shots off concrete. It doesn't seem to me they are investing in watering the holes or fertilizing etc. which is too bad. They spent money on everything else but neglected the most important parts of a golf course. read more

Five stars may be a bit generous, but Peacock Gap is by far the best public golf experience I've found in the Bay Area. Staff are always friendly, the course is generally in good shape, and the value is solid enough (especially with a GolfNow deal). Keep up the good work, y'all. read more

We just finished a 90th birthday party for about 40 pp, held in the Club Room at Peacock Gap Golf Course. The food was excellent, the service personnel most helpful, and all aspects of coordination went as planned. Stacey, Sales Manager, and Eric, Events Manager were incredibly helpful. We had several meetings with Eric prior to the event to check out A-V and he made sure we had the equipment and support we needed. Eric was on hand at the party the entire time to work with us on moving things along and making last minute changes. Feedback from our guests was extremely positive. The weekday specials are phenomenal. There are deals on everything from oysters to pizza. Their seasonal prosciutto, burrata, and grilled peach balsamic glaze, caramelized onion pizza is fantastic. The view is very serene, but do bring your shades and hat when it's sunny out. While the service is a little slow and one employee on the golf cart was quite boorish; I will go back for the food and view alone. The other staff members were cool. Pros: * easy drive from San Francisco * last week the fairways were nicely maintained. * friendly staff * reasonable green fees * the course is very walkable. There's only one hill from hole 3 to hole 4. Cons: * so much geese poop on almost every hole. Especially on the tee boxes. More geese poop than actual number of geese. * on hole 6 a raven stole my PB&J sandwich out of my push cart. It grabbed my sandwich bag and flew off. read more

2 stars and would be one if it wasn't for the starter Steve, (he was cool). Some of the fairways are more like rough, the greens are good as well as the tee box's all and all it was a pretty nice course. Here's the bad part, we booked 6:30 tee time and the corse opens at 6, when we got there we opened the door to the pro shop and the guy Jim I think he name is was very rude, told us he wasn't quite open yet. That's fine but he was very rude. Also the range was not open. We stood outside for 15 mins while he went and got a cart for some members (that showed up after us). Approaching 10 mins to our tee time he causally came back to the office "didn't say a word to us as we were waiting in front" I asked "are we going to be good for our 6:30 tee time" he said if it says 6:30 then that's when you'll be out there" (again, very very rude when he said this) he finally let us in and we had no warm up whatsoever and rushed to get to our tee time. Just very rude individual. I hit a bad shot and had to go looking for my ball with the cart. Now I will say I messed up and went to close to a green on another hole the so the cart got frozen. I tried putting in reverse "and it did not work was totally dead". Soooooo I had to call my pal at the pro shop (he gave me a hard time for going close to the green) and I get that but I told him reverse was not working and he scoffed. Then it started to Work going in reverse I said "sorry it's working now" he said "ya I'm sure you just called because you don't have anything better to do!" All and all I don't know what the deal is with this guy he is very rude and I will never be back as long as he works here. He is the face of the course and a very bad rep for any golf course. read more

Played here today with my brother at 655am and it was not bad of a course for $75ish. I'm sure it's probably cheaper if you're a San Rafael resident. 4 stars because range wasn't open in the morning so we couldn't warm up. Pace of play wasn't bad but the group in front of us were so incredibly slow. Conditions were pretty good overall. Bunkers had pretty soft sand. Greens were kept nicely and weren't rolled on. I probably would have shot better if I wasn't using my old children's clubs since my actual clubs are in SoCal. Overall, it was beautiful day for some golf. Not sure if I'd come out here during the weekday but if you can make an early weekend tee time I would give this place a try. It's a nice little getaway drive to be out in some wilderness away from the city. read more

We played on a Sunday and the pace of golf was incredibly slow - we got through 10 holes in 3 hours. There was no Marshall to "encourage" proper pace of play and no amenities cart to keep everyone in a good mood while waiting on every tee box. We called it on the 12th hole. For the price we paid plus the cost of the golf cart, this was a real disappointment. Also, the course is in mediocre shape. The greens are fine. But the fairways leave a lot to be desired - patchy with lots of geese poop. My friends and I have played Peacock Gap multiple times in the last few years but this experience made me question if I'll return anytime soon. read more

Do not play this course if you need to rent clubs. The rental clubs were a beat up set of off brand clubs that I've never heard of. Would've paid $100 more for a quality set of Titleist or Taylormade rentals. The course overall was in a descent shape but couldn't enjoy it because we had to play with bad clubs. read more

I had a really frustrating and disappointing experience with the older man working in the pro shop. My golf cart died in the middle of the fairway -- and to make things worse, I was told after the fact that they knowingly gave me a broken cart. When I called for help, instead of offering support, he yelled at me over the phone and insisted I wasn't doing it right, even though all he told me was to try putting it in reverse. He had no patience -- just attitude. Honestly disgusting behavior. Golf is supposed to be enjoyable, and there's no reason to treat paying customers this way. I've never been spoken to so rudely over something that was clearly not my fault. I won't be coming back. read more

Carts kept freezing up and only worked backwards on Friday 10, 2024. This situation made the round of golf very unpleasant. When we finished the round I and several other golfers approached the pro shop and asked for some consideration for our inconvenience. To quote the person in the pro shop "Not my problem" As it turned out the pro took over the conversation and blamed the Sun. Anyone who has ever been in the service industry, and yes, golf is a service industry, when anyone or a group of people are unhappy with the service an apology is offered at a minimum. A $10 rain check, a free golf ball, or even a bag of tees would go a long way to retain repeat golfers. Shame on the management for zero response. There are plenty of other golf courses in Marin to choose from. Going forward , Peacock Gap will not be one of them for me. read more

I will never forget the EPIC party Yelp hosted here six years ago. I've eaten here a few times at the Range Cafe Bar & Grill overlooking the immaculate golf course. Can't beat happy hour oysters for $1. Our son had the scrumptious burger. Who says you have to love golf or be a golfer to sit and relax at this splendid venue? This venue is spacious, bright, tucked away with ample parking. They book weddings and all sorts of parties. The acoustics are remarkable, and there's plenty of room to have a fun and memorable photo booth. When all this Covid-19 is over, I'm hoping our son's Senior Prom will take place at this phenomenal landmark! I think I am way more excited than he is LOL! Greens seem like they are always rolling very true and it never seems like you have a bad lie. The bunkers are some of the best in the area which you rarely see. Is "Good" really 4 star worthy? I really enjoyed my round at Peacock Gap yesterday. Summer weather, albeit close to the Bay, but the course was in pretty good shape. I did shoot a good round, so that made the experience better. It is a nice set up...cafe, practice facilities and course on site. I paid $64 for riding, which is a bargain nowadays. The carts have GPS which is a blessing and a curse. If you don't feel like pulling out your range finder, it's easy to look at the screen. What's absolutely horrible...going off the fairway a smidge and your cart starts yelling at you because you're "out of bounds." Then you have to drive backwards to get back to a safe location. That happened way too often, as my cart buddy is fairly new to the game and his ball often strayed off the beaten path (but not too far off as to warrant a cart shut down). Another quick gripe...too many people on the course. I realize every dollar counts and you're trying to cram as many golfers on the course as possible. If you do that, the experience isn't pleasurable and people may not return. Spread out the tee times!! Oh yeah, T-Mobile doesn't have a signal out in this part of San Rafael. You've been warned. Besides those few issues, it was a nice day. read more

So we came on Mother's Day for a round of golf with my kids. I've played here many times but this is the second time we got eaten Alive by mosquitos. It was terrible. We each much have 20 to 30 mosquito bites on my legs and Arms. I mostly feel bad for the kids as they are suffering from the bites no fault Of their own. Shouldn't Peacock spray or do mosquito abatement?? We noticed when we finished the 18 holes we saw the front desk people offering mosquito repellent to golfers checking in. Why wasn't I offered this when they knew mosquitos were biting?? Also, I was driving cart no. 16 and it barely budged when I stepped on the gas. At least have your carts in working order! Also, having a handicapped placard isn't very helpful on the course as the cart continuously beeps any time you go near water or trees. This is my Mother's Day outing and all I got was a bunch of itchy mosquito bites and and a lousy cart. read more

We recently attended a wedding at the golf club. The venue is absolutely beautiful inside and outdoors. COVID 19 protocols There are signs to wear mask and remain social distance inside and outside. There are hand sanitizers all around the venue. Staffs wore masks and gloves. The wedding party are encouraged to wear masks as well. The ceremony took place outdoors for 20min. It was a very very windy day, I applaud the couple for using the beautiful outdoor landscape for the ceremony. The chairs outdoor are placed at a safe distance. There were some technical issues with wireless mics, guests couldn't hear some of the couple's wedding vows. There weren't backup mics for the ceremony either, all were wireless mics. After the ceremony, there are cold cuts and hot appetizers served outside. The cold cuts are mostly cheese, prosciutto, fruits, crackers and bread. We were huge fans of the hot appetizers. It was crab cakes on bread, meatballs, shrimp skewers, the crab cakes were delicious. There was an open bar for the rest of the night. Dinner was buffet style. The MCs and entertainers introduced the newly wedded couple then called each of us by table to get our food so the line won't get congested. Unfortunately they didn't do a good job calling by each table. A few tables went up to line up for food n the line got pretty long there. There were a total of 20 tables for guests. As you can tell, the indoor venue is very large for over 150 occupancy. The carter food was alright. My favorites are the prime ribeye stick, veggies, mashed potatoes, and spaghetti. The Caterers served the buffet food to guests. We had a great time at this wedding venue. The venue was decorated beautifully with flowers, bouquets, the staff did a wonderful job at the wedding serving over 150 guests. Wow! This course is absolutely gorgeous and very easy to play. I am extremely impressed and will definitely be back many times in the future. Course is in excellent condition and cut very nicely so you can hit many pure shots on the fairway. Entire layout is flat with little elevation changes making it a playable course for beginners as well. Somehow scored very well for a 30 mph wind day! I bet this course is even easier and better during the summer! Employees were all very nice and welcoming as well. We were able to start 10 min before our tee time because the starter was extremely nice. Unfortunately the entire game became backed up and the marshal asked us politely to be a little quicker but we were going as fast as we could. We were pressured to keep hitting into the group in front of us but luckily the players ahead were really nice about it and understood that we kept getting rushed even tho we literally almost hit them a handful of times. My bf and I only spent 5 min per hole actually playing but spent over 10 min having to wait after each shot and at the tee boxes. I felt rushed the entire game even tho I'm a extremely fast player so I can't imagine how other people might feel. Regardless the marshal and employees were extremely polite despite the situation so I can't even be upset but keep this in mind when going. I understand they're trying to keep the pace of the game well but we were running ahead of time anyways before the marshal came! Finished in about 4 hours and 10 minutes on a Tuesday afternoon. read more

First time I heard of this place was in August of 2018. This was where my family and I attended my cousin's wedding when he and my cousin-in-law tied the knot on August 19, 2018. I had never been to an outdoor wedding ceremony, so from that day, it was a first for me and my family. When it came to weddings back then, they would be in a church, but now in the present day, outdoor weddings are now a thing. The place was so fancy and the waiters and servers were very friendly to the wedding party, guests, everybody. The ceremony was lovely, I enjoyed every moment of it. I enjoy weddings because you get to see family members welcome new members of the family. While waiting for the reception, we had some chicken and waffle bites with a drop of Blueberry sauce and it was awesome. The servers were also serving shrimp, but sadly I have a shrimp allergy, but it's cool though. And then, when it came time for the wedding reception, it was the most extravagant room the reception took place in. Tables, decorations, everything was fancy. There was a live band during the First Dance of the Bride and Groom and the dance floor was big enough for lots of the guests to party. Food was excellent, there was salmon, chicken, Napa Valley salad and more. And as for other party food, there was specially designed M&M's for the wedding, donuts, catered taro milk tea, cheesecake bites and more. Of course, the wedding ended with open dancing and my family, cousins, fellow wedding guests and the bridal party became party animals on the dance floor. read more

I was looking forward to playing here after seeing beautiful photos of what looked like a pristine course on their website- vibrant green fairways, nicely placed water hazards, comfortable tee boxes. It was not at all what I anticipated. This has the potential to be a very nice course, but it hasn't been maintained. There are brown patches in the fairways, the grass around the greens can be hard, some tee boxes are overgrown with crabgrass, some water hazards are dried up and others have funky smelly water. According to their website they have a dress code, which isn't out of the ordinary for golf, but I'd then expect much better conditions. Luckily I played during the week for a $40 rate. I couldn't justify paying $50 or even $66 on the weekend. read more

We called ahead to reserve the paragolfer for a family member who was an avid golfer but hasn't been able to get out on the course and swing a club in several years due to a stroke. Every interaction we had the entire time we were there was pleasant and welcoming. They exceeded all of our expectations! Thank you so much Chris and Jim for taking such good care of her. You made this a memorable experience for all of us! At the turn, we were about 10 minutes earlier than our scheduled food pick up time. I let the man behind the counter know we were there and that I knew we were early. We were happy to wait. He gave us a couple complimentary Arnold palmers and apologized for the wait. Six months ago, I retired and took up golf. After a couple times at the driving range and putting green with a golfing buddy, I decided to take a lesson from a professional golfer, Sara Yarmer. OMG!! She is awesome! She makes it make sense! She's an excellent teacher, patient, fun, just the nicest gal! I absolutely recommend taking lessons when you start. I've now had 6 months of lessons and feel so much more confident because of her. The course is gorgeous. The guys in the pro shop are so helpful and very nice too. GO GOLF THERE!!! Updating my review for a couple reasons. #1 - I've been taking lessons from Paul Gorman and he's been an absolute godsend to my golf game. I've taken lessons from several people over the last 13 years I've been playing. Most I would not return to. I like Paul's laid back teaching style and his not so technical/position based approach. Don't get me wrong, he knows all that stuff but he doesn't default to it. He uses mostly feel based teaching with me and it works. I had a lesson last week and Just yesterday I sent him a quick video of some horrid swings I was experiencing and with a quick 30 second dubbed over video reply he had me back to my normal swing today. Issues corrected. He's the man and he's worth every penny if you want to play your best and get better. Not to mention he's a cool dude. #2 I've been playing here occasionally and the overall course has been improved since my initial review. Greens have been greatly improved the course is very walk friendly and beautiful with all the wildlife (play toward dusk). The hospitality is always friendly and the food and bar are amongst the best in Marin and beyond. I play Pasatiempo (private) often and this place gives them a run! One item I'd suggest is they upgrade the teachers practice turf to the same stuff they put in the regular range. Whatever they have the teachers using is sub par. I know you have the money - the tee sheet is unforgiving if you're not planning ahead! read more

No discounts for juniors.. then went to their cafe.. its took over a half hr for a pretzel, quesadilla, and BLT. I purchased a $200 e-gift card as a gift. The $200 transaction was immediately processed with my bank, yet the e-gift card was never sent to the recipient. I contacted the general manager, Caleb. Caleb told me he would immediately fix the problem. That was almost a week ago. I called Caleb every day since the purchase and every time he said he would get back to me. He would never return my calls and the recipient still has not received the e-gift card which I paid for. During my last conversation with Caleb he refused to give me the contact number for Peacocks corporate office. Now when I try to call Caleb he forwards my calls to voice mail. As of now I am out $200 and the recipient has not received the e-gift card. read more

Part 2: --- Hole 12: 520 Par 5 Garrett likes to call holes 11-13 "Amen Corner," which maybe gives this course a little too much credit (Note: you can find my review of Augusta National by searching through my past reviews). It's a difficult stretch of golf, though. I played two simple irons to get to 160 yards from the hole on my third shot, but then hit my worst ball of the day, a shank duck hook that should have been put out of its misery. Quack. It landed on the other side of the creek on the right, near the 11th tee box. I had a tree in my way on the fourth shot, tried to power the ball through anyway, and I hit a branch. My fifth shot still didn't have a clear angle around the tree, so I could only advance the ball to the side of the green. A short pitch on my sixth shot trickled down to twenty feet below the hole and I two putted for jolly ol' snowman. Hole 13: 190 Par 3 I hit a nice 5-iron to 25 feet and two putted for par. However, before I played my tee shot, I made the mistake of asking Garrett what club he was hitting, which is a two stroke penalty. So I had to take a double bogey 5. Hole 14: 484 Par 5 A good drive put me in range to go for the green in two. But I pushed my hybrid approach about 50 yards left of the green. Lucky me, the ball landed on the red tee box of the 15th hole. With a favorable lie, I hit a sand wedge onto the green and two putted for par. Hole 15: 356 Par 4 Two good shots gave me a look at birdie, but I crushed the putt 6 feet by the hole, and needed to make the returning putt to tie Saoji (it was an important part of the match). But like my ice-veined golf hero Andres Gonzales, I kept my cool and sank the putt for a par. Hole 16: 155 Par 3 The match was coming to a crossroads on Hole 16, as we were all square on the back nine. Saoji and Matt both missed the green, so the fourball came down to Garrett and I, who were both on the dance floor. But Garrett ran his 35 footer about four feet past the hole, and I hit a nice lag on my 25 footer for a tap-in par. Then Garrett, from the area that he likes to call "the puke zone," missed his par putt and had to surrender the hole and the lead. Andres Gonzales would have been disappointed with the G-man on that one. Hole 17: 320 Par 4 A creek runs in front and along the left of the green, which takes driver out of play. With a one hole lead, it looked like Matt and I might claim the match a hole early when I hit a 5-iron tee shot to 100 yards away in the center of the fairway. But Saoji hit a wonderful approach to just off the green, Garrett hit his approach onto the green, then I hit a disastrous wedge shot into the creek on the left. Oh no! Don't uncork the Schlitz cocktails just yet, because it looks like I bungled this one and we'd be all square heading to the 18th. But I caught a slight break, because my approach landed on the green side of the creek before kicking back into the water, which meant I was allowed to take my penalty drop on the green side of the hole. I was mad at my 56 degree Cleveland Steamer wedge for the debacle it had pulled on the shot before, but I decided to let bygones be bygones and called upon the 56 degree again for the chip. And boy howdy did he redeem himself, by knocking it straight into the cup for a chip-in par. Garrett and Saoji looked on in disbelief, and Matt did his happy dance by clapping his two gloved hands together like a Gob Bluth rooster, and our opponents were shaken like a Sean Connery martini. Saoji flubbed his chip, and Garrett took his second straight three putt, which handed the match to our beloved protagonists. Hole 18: 406 Par 4 The match was over, and Matt and I had already cracked our Schlitz cocktails, but at this time a rules official approached me to let me know that the television crew and noticed that on hole 5, the ball had moved when I grounded my club before hitting the ball from the rough. The officials had determined that the club caused the ball to move, which meant I would be assessed a one stroke penalty. This changed my triple bogey to a quadruple bogey, but we had lost the hole anyway, so the penalty did not effect the result of the match. On 18, I hit a drive to the first cut on the left, hit a nice iron shot just right of the hole. A birdie would've been the sprinkles on top of my Schlitz Sundae, but I narrowly missed and had to settle for a par. My final score for the day was officially a 94, but with the four penalty strokes for carrying too many clubs, the penalty for asking Garrett what club he was using, the penalty I took when addressing the ball on hole 5, and the octuple bogey on hole 10, it could have easly been 12-14 strokes less. I've only played the course once, but I'll definitely be back. The conditions are pretty good considering the winter rains we had, so they will only get better. The course is not long, but fairway bunkers are placed strategically to make you decide to risk trying to fly them or lay up a bit. There are also some tight fairways with water hazards to make you pucker and penalize wayward shots. There's a nice combination of elevation changes along with flat holes, straight holes and dog legs - too much of one type or the other is all too common with most courses. They give you a yardage book that helps guide you around the course. The beer/snack cart must have shown up at least twice on each side, and the guy in the starter/pro shop was full of information and seemed willing to help when I told him it was my first time at the course. read more

Ok I finally went back to Peacock Gap for the 1st time since March... I will start with the good. The conditions were great. What Peacock Gap has done with the greens is remarkable. Slightly slow but what a turnaround from last spring! We could easily make putts now. The conditions and the course I give 4 stars. All of the staff I encountered were courteous, warm & friendly. However we had other golfers bark at our group a couple of times. Why do the regulars / members feel compelled to marshall the course themselves with anger & selfishness so quickly? The way is see it, if you don't respect your fellow golfers you are disrespecting the game and for certain the course you are playing. We were a 4 some following a 3 some. This 2 some behind us caught up to us at the 4th hole & started yelling at us on the 5th. There was plenty of room for courtesy here. We would have let them play through if they would have asked. We were all playing our shots as soon as we got to the ball and playing "ready golf". A little courtesy goes a long way but anger goes nowhere good. It colored the rest of our round.... and not a pretty color. They need to realize Peacock gap is a PUBLIC course and we were playing on a sunday morning. Not exactly conditions to expect "fly through 18" golf. One could say that there is always a couple of bad apples, etc. but this has happened the last 3 times I've played Peacock Gap. And like I said, I do not experience this anywhere else and I play every week (at least once). I have played San Geronimo 6 mornings in the last 6 weeks & have had nothing but pleasant interactions with other golfers... for example. Just read other reviews and you will find this is not an isolated incident. If it weren't for the rude golfers Peacock Gap would easily get 4 stars. I strongly encourage Peacock gap to contact their members and remind them how important courtesy to other golfers is to the course & the game. (I can describe the twosome PGGC if needed) read more
