This golf course is amongst the top three public courses in the area. It boasts a challenging layout, but not too challenging for the average golfer. It's well kept and reasonably priced. Plus it's mostly flat and thus very walkable. And it's quite scenic, located in a natural setting with water foul, and so many mature plants and trees. None of the holes are next to public roadways. So it's mostly quiet and serene. And I say mostly, because there is an airport next to the course so that does create some loud, intermittent, overhead noise particularly on holes 5-10. My friend who is the designated golf tee time guru made an announcement last week that she got us tee time at Rooster Run. Hubby & I said oh, we've played there before. She was surprised. Well, I couldn't recall anything about the course. But I knew I wrote a Yelp review on it. Sure enough, 4 years ago. As a result of my previous review where I mentioned the course was flat and wide, we all decided on push carts. The pro shop allowed the 7 of us to tee off early as we were all present and ready. Which way is Hole 1? She pointed past the parking lot and instructed us to take the underground tunnel. We made our way over. It was a wonderful day. Sunny. Peaceful. There's a local airport next door but it didn't deter from our game. Also vineyards. There's a few hazards like barrancas which are always psychological; however, it's mostly wide and flat. Fortunately the weather was in the low 70's. Any higher I'd have to rent a golf cart as I have a tendency to wilt. We all enjoyed the course and said we wouldn't mind returning as it's only a 45 minute drive door to door since we're driving against traffic. This has to be the worst service golf course I've ever seen in my life had to leave early due to emergency and I could not make common ground with the man and lady at the front desk I paid 70$ dollars for a tee time here and I couldn't even get a rain check apparently they don't give out rain checks even when it rains? What kinda golf course is this? Tee box's are a mess pitch marks all over the greens bunkers was a mess and they over price drinks 7 bucks for a coke... you guys are outta your mind avoid this place and spend your hard earned money else were 0/10 read more

Well maintained golf course. Certainly the tee box & fairway turf is more consistent and well groomed than my home course of Oakmont in Santa Rosa. Rooster run putting greens are pretty smooth, too. The practice putting green out back by the driving range has some tricky changes in grade. It's big and fun to use. For reduced green fees try to book your round through http://www.birdiebug.com. My last round cost just $40 with a cart, good deal! I've eaten at the restaurant just once. Pretty standard golf course menu: burgers, club sandwiches, etc... Flavors good enough, prices are fair. How can I not like a course that wielded me the highest percentage of G.I.R's in my sucky golf life. Rougly 70%. Couldn't putt a lick in this course though, despite getting a handful of birdies. Lots of 3 putts...lotssss. The greens aren't fast or difficult...just didn't have the flat stick working yesterday. My buds and I played here cause one of them had a tourney coming here soon and wanted a little course knowledge. We played from the whites @ 5900yds because that's were the tourney will tee off from, but the tips interest me a lot @ 7000yds, even the blues @ 6400yds. The whites can offer up a lot of chances to drive the green if the wind is blowing right. No wonder I like this course...a few short 300yd par4's don't hurt none. The course is setup pretty well. The bunkers have tons of sand in them, and the fairways and rough are cut accordingly. The golf shop is pretty small...small enough that it shares the space with the snack shop. The employees are nice enough - they're not overly talkative and keep to themselves but a gesture here and there is noted every so often. Pace of play is pretty slow here...I guess that's why we saw the marshal out and about on a Tuesday...usually don't see those guys at all, yet along several times. 4 1/2 hours on a Tuesday is pretty bad. It's got to be horrid in the weekends...a major negative for me coming back. read more

This course has so much potential, unfortunately, management doesn't seem to want to pay attention to things like slow play. The pace is consistently very slow. There is no marshall monitoring pace. It's not uncommon to wait 5-10 minutes to tee off on a hole, while watching someone spend 2 minutes reading their putt. I play with a family member who lives in a different house than me. I'm consistently asked to share a cart with him, because they are short of carts, even though everyone else has there own cart, due to COVID. When I ask if I'll still have to pay the same cart fee as everyone else, I'm told yes. Does that make sense? There's a really nice guy who works in the pro shop and then there are the other staff. For one of them, unfriendly is an understatement. All that said, it's a nice course foe the money. It's a shame that these issues might drive me to play elsewhere. read more

If you're wondering why golf courses are closing play a round here and you'll understand. My friends and I had a threesome and a twosome (They don't allow groups of five) but the play in front of us was very slow. The marshall and an assistant manager came out twice to tell us we couldn't have a fivesome even though we were waiting at the tee box for the groups in front of us. Finally the last two holes we said screw it and played together. Nobody was behind us. When I went to turn my cart key in the manager, John started in on me again. He told me they were going to put a flag on all our names in the computer. I'm the kind of guy that fixes two divots on the greens. I don't yell and scream. I follow the rules of golf to the letter. I thought that our treatment was beyond the pale and absolutely unnecessary. Our rounds were $60 plus cart fees. In my opinion your money is better spent at another course. read more

The course is well maintained and most of the staff are friendly and helpful, sometimes you get a grumpy one. The play can get slow and there aren't many marshals keeping an eye on things. It's a pretty flat course and not too many hazards. The food there is also pretty decent. The bathrooms could use an upgrade and a deep clean. read more

My golf club golfed here today (Sunday, 8/6) and we really enjoyed the experience. The golf was not difficult as this is a typical parkland layout with big open fairways, easy to hit, with minimal interference. There were many scores in the 80s for golfers that vacillate between the 80s and 90s. My tip on the 18th hole is to lay up center of the tall trees framing the left and right sides forward of the green. Also, be careful not to hit your 3rd shot long past the green as out of bounds closely guards the perimeter. As for the staff, they all seem to be hard working and enjoyable except for the older lady that was opening the snack bar/bar. She had a major attitude, was throwing things around behind the bar, and was generally ornery. Overall, great course and the club would rebook. read more

I happen to think that Rooster Run is one of the best courses in the Petaluma area. It's much better than Adobe Creek and the pricing is reasonable as well. They recently change the front nine and back nine and that has made the course much easier to score on down the stretch holes. If you play a right to left ball or a hook you could have some issues because just about every hole has OB left. The first 4 holes are almost always downwind and fairly easy. But the last 5 holes are extremely long and into the wind. And the wind seems to pickup as the day goes on. Seven, eight and nine are the three hardest holes on the course. All three are directly into the wind and if you hit the greens in regulation then you've accomplished a lot. The second nine (formerly the front nine) isn't nearly as hard and you can make some good scores down the stretch. They have an island green on the par 3, 15th hole. The island is bigger than you'd think and the hole is only about 130 yards from the blue tees. So just don't get psyched out... you can do it, I believe in you. When you get to the 18th get your head right and get a birdie. It's a short par 5 that will be down wind. Just make sure if you layup that you're in the middle because there is a small creek in front of the green with a narrow opening between some trees. You'll need to split the uprights so to speak. So do the right thing and make sure you layup leaves you at least 120 yards out. Or just strap a pair on and go for it in two and get an eagle... read more

I played rooster today with a couple of friends, I paid one minute after my friend did and they charged me $15 more. I took both receipts and went into the clubhouse after the round of golf and ask them about it and the guy tells me while I thought your friend was over 60 years old he looks younger than me then they tell me well your buddy can come in and pay $15 more or ask your friend for $7. not hey here's $15 back or hey here's a free token to go hit a bucket of balls at the range just too bad. We enjoyed our round here. We played a twilight round here and the course is in very good condition. Since it was our first time playing here the pro shop gave us a course book laying out each hole which was nice and helpful. We played at a great pace 2:50 which is great compared to other twilight rounds I have been playing. The greens have a subtlety to them, that makes them difficult to read making the course more difficult. I found the back nine to have a little more character and it was more difficult. Rooster Run Golf Club - #4 - Golf Near Me - Petaluma, California

We (3 of us with carts) played here on November 2 midday. The course itself is pretty decent even though the movement of play is especially slow. We showed up at the first tee and there was a twosome already in the fairway and another twosome (walkers) waiting to tee off. A couple showed up after us (also walkers) and the marshal asked them if they wanted to tee off with the twosome on the tee box, but they politely declined. After the twosome teed off, another twosome (walkers) show up at the first tee and the marshall tells them to hurry up and tee off. The marshall tells all four of them that it will help them all if there are 4 of them and not just 2 of them since the pace of play was slow. So after all of this shuffling, we teed off 20 minutes after our reserved tee time behind 4 walkers. The pace of play was soooooo slow; we waited on every hole to tee of and it took almost 5 hours to complete the round. Ugh. I really like the course; I just didn't appreciate extra shuffling on the first tee which tremendously slowed down our usual pace..... read more

I have played here a couple of times And I really like it. Recently I was about to tee off here and my wife called me and told me she had got in a minor car accident . I told the pro shop and not only were they sympathetic Dennis one of the marshalls personally drove me to the site of the accident which was several miles away. Absolutely fantastic service. Rooster Run is a nicely kept course that is a challenge for most golfers. The greens are especially tricky, with speed and subtle tilts that make three-putts all too easy. The pro shop is friendly and well-stocked, with a snack bar that has a good selection of drinks, sandwiches and gooodies. What do I hate about Rooster Run? Petaluma weather!! This is a microclimate that is different from nearby Santa Rosa. On the course, either it's windy (very windy), foggy, or both. 18 holes at Rooster Run can be a terrific experience, I've just never played there on a day with good weather. If you like braving the elements, this is the course for you!! read more

Just had our class reunion at Rooster Run Event Center and it was fabulous. Lane and her staff were most accommodating. They took care of everything. One of our classmates was at the buffet and mentioned that she was hoping that she could eat the Cesar salad as she has a special food need but she could not. One of the staff overheard her and offered to make her a special salad. We had booked Sally Tomatoes several month in advance of our reunion and put a $2500 deposit down. They cancelled us because they got a better booking just a few months before our 40th class reunion. When we contacted Lane at Rooster Run, she took great care of us and saved our whole party. This place would get 5 stars if it weren't for the crazy loud airplanes taking off overhead. But you get pretty used to it, and it's actually kind of nice to see cute little planes flying around nearby (note: the Marshall told us that only 2 planes have crashed onto the course- not comforting). Right now at 4pm you can play 18 with a cart for $22- unbelievable! The course is really well maintained and has a fair amount of sand, water, and other hazards to keep you on your toes. The club house could be bigger and have more options and seating, but in the summer they have specials included in the fees to get a sandwich, chips and a drink- and a golf cart snack bar driving around. Carts run great, marshalls are really nice, and you can play next to some beautiful land including fields of flowers and a little vineyard. read more

I love this course. I always have a good time and I LOVE that they don't over book. You can pretty much tee off at any time and/or make reservations without any issues. I love that I'm not sitting around wanting to play, but having to wait for the people ahead of me - while they wait for the people ahead of them - all the while, people behind us are already sitting with us (which has been my experience at other courses (see my review for Poplar Golf Course in San Mateo). We keep coming back up to Rooster Run because they are friendly and they know how to properly book reservations. read more

After looking at what seemed like a million venues, we decided on Rooster Run for our 8/24 wedding. And we did not regret it for a moment!! I was very anti "golf course" wedding after visiting another venue in Rohnert Park that left me with a terrible taste in my mouth. But, after viewing the site and talking over our "vision" with Lane, we were 1000% sold that RR was the place for our wedding. The ceremony site was beyond beautiful (and not at all "golf course-y") and was a dream come true. We used all of their available rooms for our reception, and everything from the food to the flow of the evening was perfection. And, I'll add, all for a very reasonable cost. We had a wedding of appx 150 guests and they all felt very well taken care of. Lane is incredibly easy to work with and SO good at her job. I would highly recommend Rooster Run for any event. I went here the other day before I moved in at Sonoma State, and I found it's a pretty good muni course for the money. The course is well taken care of, and many of the holes are well designed and fun, such as the Par 3 15th sporting the only island green in the area. There were a couple things I didn't like. For one, my round took 4:45 which is on the long side, though I went on Saturday so I wasn't expecting much better. Also there's not much of a restaurant anymore, which was slightly disappointing. Overall it's a good experience though, and a good value. read more

Horrible experience with this course... I got married a few weeks ago, and one of my groomsmen set up a golf tournament at Rooster Run for 8am on the day of the wedding (he had an email from one of the workers confirming as such). Upon ~20 of us showing up for our tee times (+photographer and videographer), they inform us that they screwed up and booked two tournaments at the same time. We could not play the course. The guy in the clubhouse that day was actually really helpful (not the person who had been setting up the tournament) and got us on a different course a few miles away. Still, this was completely inexcusable for something that had been set up months in advance. Bottom line, if you're looking to set up a tournament, I'd stay away from this place. read more

the course is in good shape and the pace of play on a sunday was really not too bad, but they don't really have a restaraunt where you can get some eggs in the morning.
