Do NOT hire Peak Electrical! Due to lack of available contractors during the pandemic, we hired who was available. Our mistake was we did not check reviews & John did to us what he did to Barry P. among others here in Yelp. John insisted on a cash deposit & took our money without doing the work. John also asked us to setup our final city permit inspection ahead of time then demanded over $2700+ for our relatively simple electrical work days before the inspection. In disgust toward John's extortion attempt, we hired another electrician to do the work instead who only charged $450 for everything. We reported John/Peak Electrical to the CSLB for malpractice. They have warned Peak Electrical that there will be "more severe administrative action" if further reports are received. Our complaint number with CSLB is NA2020011489 as reference. read more

Called them on a Sunday, John quoted me 125 for GFCI outlet back to back. He said he'd be there at 2p. I was so happy! I told him I got all the parts. 240p rolls around, no show, (I'm thinking is he really going to show) I called to find out where he is. He acted like he didn't know which job this was. I reminded him I was the one that needed the gfci outlet. He said "oh yeah" like he forgot. He said he'd call his guys and see if he can send someone or himself. He said they "needed to get the parts, Home Depot is busy" ( I just went -not that busy in and out in 15 min) He went on and on about how some businesses don't have all the parts, they have to go to different locations, etc etc. Starting to sound bogus if you ask me. 330 p rolls around, no call, no show. I called again, he said he'd call back and see if he can send someone now. Again no call, no show. I called last time about 4p and he said " you have all the parts?- will be there within A hr" it was 4p, they showed up at 448p. Didn't want to take dirty shoes off. Finally got them to. A son and father team. I showed them the parts, they said I got the wrong parts. If you go shopping , I stay here , you save money. UNF'N BELIEVABLE!!! So then I was quoted 250 plus parts- price gouging at the mid point! Plus they smelled like alcohol! Well shit thanks for wasting my F'N Sunday! WARNING!!!! Called Tobin Peak who is in Santa Clara (408-615-9220) for a job that was required to be done quickly. We needed to have a plug grounded for a machine that was to support a home dialysis machine. Tobin came at the time scheduled and it was done efficiently. He was very generous with his time and gave us several helpful tips. Will use Tobin again on other electrical issues. read more

Our faulty microwave tripped the circuit breaker and somehow the switch would not turn on again. It was stuck in the Off position. No microwave, no stove either. I called Peak Electrical after reading reviews about his work and was impressed by his honesty and kindness. John answered the phone immediately. I sent him pictures of the circuit breaker, he isolated the problem, and walked me through fixing the problem. Making money is not his thing. Apparently helping people is what he likes to do. Called John after having some electrical issues around 6pm in the evening. He seemed very nice. I called him specifically because his business stated he was open till 10pm. He claimed to be 24 hrs, but balked a bit about coming out that evening. I clearly explained to him my wife was working nights, and i needed him to come out early the following morning so she could go to sleep by 10am. Some of the outlets not working are our bedroom. I assumed the job would be his first of the day. He agreed to come out between 8am-8:30am. He texted me at 8:15 am saying he was delayed and couldn't arrive till 10am or later. He left me in a bind. I bought a new Level 2 charger to use in my home, to charge my plug in. Never had an EV and knew nothing. Bought the first level 2 charger from Amazon and called up John...I quickly found out that charging an EV, using a level 2 charger, isn't as simple as it sounds. Long story short, John was very knowledgeable and he clearly knows his stuff. He went above and beyond what I asked him to do, and that was nice. The job is solid and everything is working great. Even 2-3 weeks after he finished the job, he still took my calls when I had questions. He was patient and extremely knowledgeable. If you're looking for an electrician that cares, John's your guy. After calling about 10 other electricians I encountered Peak Electrical. They picked up the phone within a couple rings, and when answering were very professional and pleasant to speak to. What encouraged me to write a review was their honesty. I briefly explained the electrical problem I was having and they helped me troubleshoot over the phone. We found out that the solution was replacing a fuse, (easy fix) as I own a plumbing business and am pretty capable he suggested that it may be an issue I can fix myself, that he would hate to have to charge me for the job. First and foremost, do not let these people in your house, at all. I simply needed a single outlet replaced and the recent heat wave only exacerbated the problem, causing an entire wall of outlets and switches to not work, which affected some major appliances that I needed working. I called Peak b/c my go to guy was unavailable and I saw the A+ rating/BBB cert on their website (which I now think is probably fraudulent), spoke to Dakota, who quoted me $75/hr but at a 2hr minimum. We set an appointment for later in the day (they were late and did not call me to say so). When they arrived, we started talking about the problem and they (both dad and son) started running around my house and taking things apart. Did I mention they haven't even given me an estimate of what the job would entail yet? After all of 40 minutes, John, the dad, says to me, "I don't know what you were told over the phone but it's going to be $225 + 5 more if paying with card, and he tried to play it like I was getting a discount! At this point I just wanted them out of my house. Yes, they fixed the problem, but tipping yourself an extra $50, a little egregious don't you think? Oh yeah, I already had a replacement outlet (parts) ready to go, so no trips (gas) to the hardware store, so how does that add up to 225 f*ing dollars?? Also, while Dakota, the son, who actually did the work, I kept seeing John kinda peeping around my house which made me extremely uncomfortable. I should have stopped the BS right there. I paid with a check, and they asked I make it out to the son. Hello??? Not the company??? Which means probably not recorded on their company books. So dishonest.... I was having the dreading smoke dector chirping after changing all of the batteries. I had given up and was willing to hire someone to just fix it as I had to turn it off breaker to avoid the noise . Not only was that unsafe, it also meant one of my survilience cameras was off as well as my sprinkler system. When I called Peak Electrical I spoke with John and was ready to book an appointment. He suggested I first try a few things. He told me to buy Lithium 10 year batteries and tried to find the model number. He also suggested I purchase a compressed air can to clean out the dectors. A few moments later he called back and left a voicemail with the battery model number. I purchased the above items and all is peaceful and back to normal No more chirping. I had Peak Electrical (John and Crew) install several additional 20 amp circuits and outlets to my home office and would definitely recommend them if you are in need of electrical services. The first electrician we found that serviced the Oakley, CA area said they'd come by later that day and never showed. The second one showed up to give me a quote and decided that it would be an invasive procedure with lots of opening up of the walls that they would then plaster and leave ready for painting. However, since the second one's license had expired and couldn't get a permit pulled I decided to give Peak Electrical a call. John came by, looked at the house and what needed to be done and came up with a solution that didn't require invasive cutting of the walls. Instead, a nice conduit through the garage, up along the wall, and straight into the wall where the outlets needed to go. The work was performed after the weekend and took a little while because there were some unforeseen obstacles in the wall that made it a bit of a challenge. However, the additional 20 amp outlets and circuits were put in over the course of a day in a very efficient and neat fashion. A much better solution than what had been proposed to me by another electrician and done at a very reasonable price as well. We were recommended to John from Peak Electric to consult us on a electrical hookup for our new hot tub spa. Upon calling him, he was very friendly and accommodating. He came out to do an initial walkthrough and pointed out not only his recommendations for the initial spa hookup, but also recommended a service upgrade at the p.o.c. at meter to street connection as it was outdated, not within current code if the house was sold and ultimately posing of a safety hazard if overloaded by too much demand of multiple appliances. This upgrade should have been done years ago by the property owner. Although we did not go with John, due to the property owner insisting upon going with their 'preferred' electrician, we would have gone with John any day for the following reasons: 1. John was honest and experienced in his recommendations. 2. John was timely and kind. 3. John was cordial and understanding that sometimes others can screw up plans to acquire a good contractor to go with their 'preferred' Good Ol' Boys, although John was spot on with price and scope of work. Ultimately we would hire John any day if we had ultimate say and we think if you're looking for a good electrician in the East Bay, that you ought to consider him as well. read more

I received the recommendation for Peak Electrical from paradise valley spas, where I bought a really nice refurbished sundance spa. I sent him pictures and we worked out a rough estimate for the price. If you never had a hot tub before, be prepared to spend some money on electrical work, it requires unique outlets and somewhat long runs to get from the box to the tub. After the spa was delivered, John came over with his crew (son and friend) for the electrical work. John does live outside the bay area so be sure to allow some extra time for him to get to your place if you are in the city. He came out with all the necessary materials and after some discussion regarding the best placement of the outlets and lines he got right into work. I wont lie, John has a quirky personality but he REALLY knows his stuff and is very knowledgable. The benefit of going with Peak is that they know how to install hot tubs. Not only did he set up the electrical in a very clean and unobtrusive way, I'm giving him all 5 stars because he and his crew really took the time to get the job right AND help me place the hot tub, level it and had had some great tips to get it going. If you are looking to install a tub Peak is a good way to go in my opinion. We had a small electrical fire in our home office from a portable air conditioning unit that resulted in seven fire fighters jammed into our humble space to stave the flames. I called John 3 days before a contractor was scheduled to install a new patio in our back yard which would also include a new spa. Conduit for the spa wiring need to be buried before the patio construction started. John and his son and business partner Dakota arrived 2 hours after the call to assess the situation. They were there the next day to bury the conduit before patio construction started. After the spa was delivered they returned to finish the wiring, but not before helping to determine the best location for the spa relative to the conduit previously buried. They also overcame what would have been a limitation caused by the wiring provided by our home builder. They not only wired the spa, but helped start it up, add chemicals and verify that all functions of the spa operated properly. So I was having some sort of electrical crisis in my home office. For some reason, half of the outlets and switches stopped working. I don't know much about electrical type stuff, but it was most inconvenient because I was facing a deadline! I called Peak Electrical and scheduled an appointment for the same day. They were an hour late but called to let me know they were running behind schedule. Once they arrived, they did a very thorough diagnostic and found the source of the faulty wiring. They made a huge effort to patiently explain the problem to me which was considerate of them. The next day, they brought back parts, tested everything, made sure everything was working to my satisfaction. They offered to come back at no charge if I had any other problems. I liked working with them. They seem patient, fair, trustworthy. And they did not charge too much either--which was surprising considering how much time they spent getting it right. We just moved into our new home in Oakley and found we had a faulty electrical socket. When I replaced the socket the circuit breaker tripped and I couldn't get it to reset. It was late, after 9 PM, and I figured I'd have to wait until morning to speak with an electrician. I found Peak Electrical on Yelp and called and left a voicemail and got a call back 5 minutes later. The person on the phone, Dakota, listened carefully and said if it was an emergency he'd come right out even though it was now almost 10 PM but I said we could wait a few hours and scheduled the appointment for the next morning. Dakota called 20 minutes before he was scheduled to arrive to let me know he was on his way. He showed up a few minutes early and had the problem diagnosed and fixed in less than 20 minutes. He charged a very reasonable fee, having not worked with an electrician for many years it was actually less than I feared, plus he spent extra time reviewing some other issues I had. Dakota actually made a stressful situation enjoyable. After the appointment, Dakota's dad John, the owner of Peak, called to make sure everything went well. I assured him it did. In just one encounter I know Peak is a good contractor and has good people running it. He really is very courteous and really knows his trade. His rate was and is very good. We used other electricians and contractors before from the east county area (Contra Costa) in the past but we always call John and his son when we need him. What really touches me about John is his honesty. Our TV wasn't working, I called them over in Oakley. John said over the phone, can you just check the cable connections really quick.
