We had been to this bar many, many times. The last time we were there I went to take my seat and a chair leg collapsed, leaving me on the floor. The waitress said I slipped on the peanut shells and my grandson corrected her. Never offered an apology, free drink or even a talk with the owner who was in house. He ignored us as we went on our way. Luckily ,being a 79year old woman, I am in decent shape and had no injury. Havent been back. read more

Very disappointed! Have eaten at restaurants of this type in Myrtle Beach that were wonderful. Idk how many meats they supposedly have but we were only offered about 5 different ones. In the choice of 5 many were either dripping blood or the outside which was very done and coated with seasoning. There were 6 of us...3 couples and they would not let us get separate checks or split the bill. We had to get our calculators out. The salad bar is the only source of vegetables but they are ice cold. Like our dinner was $150 for 2 and I would not even describe anything as yummy. Will not be going again. read more

A great place for a date night or an evening out with the family. The food is fresh and delicious with large sized portions. They offer a vegan menu and everything on it is delicious. The regular menu is quite extensive and offers something for everyone. The owner and staff are very friendly and they make everyone feel welcomed. The ambiance is wonderful making you feel like you might have stepped back in time. It gives more of a pub feel instead of a chain restaurant with the wooden floors, unique decor and lighting. Peanuts are served at every table and not only is throwing the shells on the floor allowed, it is encouraged. The bar offers a great variety of adult beverages as well. Let me start with the good: Food - I got the Portobello Sandwich and it was really good. If this was all I'd review on, it would be 5 stars. Waitress - worked her butt off with a packed house and what seemed like a lack of help. I'd give her 3 stars because she was hard to find at many times (might not be her fault). Bathroom - even with the packed house, it was surprisingly clean. Now the bad: Wait time - Arrived at 4:30pm for a reservation on a Friday afternoon; seated immediately upon our arrival. 5:30pm, one hour after being seated, our order was finally taken. 6:45pm, 2 hours and 15 minutes after being seated, our food finally arrived. Scarfed it down, paid, and ran out the door to make our 7:00pm show at the Santander Arena 3 blocks down the street. Many of the seats around us at the restaurant were just as angry about the wait time and nervous about making it to the show on time. I still feel bad for that waitress. I'm thinking it's more of a management issue or the common "can't get enough employees" problem that bars and restaurants have had since Covid struck. read more

I rarely post negative reviews, but our experience last night was beyond bad. The restaurant was very busy - but that's not an excuse. We were put in a corner table and given menus. Ordered drinks that didn't arrive until after our salad courses were finished. We were never asked for the duration of the meal if we wanted refills , which we did. We tried flagging waitresses down and were ignored. The food itself was no better than the service. I offered a crab cake. I only took one bite to realize the crab was bad. The waitress insisted I must not know what crab tastes like. My husband just smelled it and agreed it was spoiled. So my dinner was a salad, a potato and 2 pieces of broccoli. No apologies, no discount off the check no offer to replace it. My husband ordered the steak. It was chewy and full of grissle. The peanut rice with his meal was good. My daughter had the chicken and pasta in peanut sauce. It tasted like a frozen stir fry kit you'd buy at the grocery store. All of us left most of our meal on our plates. Not worth boxing it up for the dogs. Very disappointing. read more

I usually stay away from restaurants in the city. But this place came recommended and i was in the area. To be honest i was tired and not really in a good mood when i walked in. I was greeted and seated when i walked in.The decor of the place is very original. This place dates back many years before i was even a thought. Service was on top of things throughout are meal. And our server was very knowledgeable of the menu. I ordered Wienerschnitzel . This is something that i very rarely order. But it was some of the best i have ever had with the way it was prepared. Crab cakes were also ordered. I wish they had been little bit bigger. They did get devoured rather quickly. Everyone that was in our group enjoyed their entire meal. This place was a major hit with our group. I will be glad to return. And recommend you check this place out. It definitely earned its 5 stars read more

There was a glorious period when every trip to the Peanut Bar was an experience in its own. Now, though, while the dishes remain inspired, the quality varies wildly visit to visit. One night the steak may be cooked perfectly, the next it could be bland and cooked a few temperatures off (asked for medium rare? You may get it medium well). The ambiance is still one of a kind, and the owner will be quick to mention this establishment was once featured on the Travel Channel. For locals, it's worth stopping in every few months. For locals bringing guests from out of town, it's still one of the first restaurants that comes to mind if you want to treat them to a memorable evening. Aside from the inconsistency of the quality of food, you'll find standard pub fare along with regional classics. Fish and chips? Check. Meatloaf? Check. A delectable assortment of sandwiches, from the Reuben to the humble Club? Check. Some must-have treats are the signature cheese balls and wings. To this day, I still haven't tasted a Buffalo sauce that can come close to what the Peanut Bar can offer. Mind you, they don't have a WIDE variety of wing sauces, but the default sauce is one of a kind. Stop in for the gimmick of being able to toss peanut shells whimsically on the floor, stay for the cheese balls and wings. Bash the unpredictability of the entrees all you want, but trust me, you can't go wrong with these two starters. read more

This was a great choice for lunch before our evening of concerts at the Berks Jazz Festival. We read about Peanuts and decided to go here instead of your run of the mill chain restaurants. We parked in the rear of the building as they provided free, off street parking. We made our way in and were greeted by the manager, who was very pleasant. As we entered we were immediately meant by the sounds of a live jazz band, which was great. I also felt the crackle of peanuts shells under my foot as we we escorted to our table and l thought, "this is MY kind of place!" Our server, Belinda, was pleasant and immediately took our orders. As we waited, she placed a bowl of peanuts on the table and we commenced to crackin', eatin' and chuckin' those shells right on the floor! We ordered the fish and chips and the bacon cheese burger. Our order arrived in a decent time. The fish were these generous size portions of thick cod that were coated in a light batter. They were SO delicious! Not greasy and the cod was nice, firm and well cooked with no grease. The burger was cooked to order and topped with crispy bacon and loads of melted cheese. The fries were straight cut and arrived hot as well. The restaurant was a nice size and the decor was from the early 50's with red and white checkered tablecloths (that were vinyl) to boot! There was a bar that ran the length of one of the walls. We sat in the area near the bar, by there was an adjoining area that looked to seat larger parties. The stage area was located there. Although we didn't have a clear view of the musicians, there performance was broadcasted on the TV's so we were able to see them, but you could get up and watch them perform too. The pricing was a bit steep (our food with no drink and tip came to around $45), but it was a nice lunch while visiting Reading. read more

I can't believe they only have 3 stars. I've been here alot but this is the first time in a while since I moved away. Prices are good. Food is great. Staff is friendly. Everytime I've been there Jimmy Kramer was there. My favorites are their "famous" wings, crab cakes, and the frozen chocolate pretzel pie. There's always something creative and different on their menu. The ambience is perfect. Its casual yet romantic. The bar area can be fun too! This review is based solely on their wings and cold beer. I know they have a hugely extensive menu, but their wings are delicious and all I need. They only have a few wing sauce options, but you don't need a page of sauces when they're done so well. Sauce is flavorful, wings are cooked correctly with juice meat and crispy skins. I'll pay full price, but they do offer wing specials that you should take advantage of. read more

Can say the food was delicious. Sat at bar and talked with Michael the bartender who later in the conversation turned out to be the owner. This restaurant has a proud family tradition of decades of service to the community. We talked about everything in a very friendly and convivial manner. He recommended drinks, appetizers, food and most satisfactorally, the pretzel dessert. If for all the things I have described so far about what makes PBR so great, the dessert is the must have. You won't believe how good it is. Also, do any of the locals current and past, know what The Ground Round was prior? Tina our server was so friendly and wonderful. We had a party of 9 and nothing we asked for was ever a problem. She was great! Food was delicious as well. The cheese balls, potato skins, and wings were delicious - as were the peanuts! The kids had so much fun tossing the shells on the floor. Our entrees were good. This place is old school-- from the dim interior to the peanut shells all over the floor. It's nice to be in a place like this and be able to breathe easily-- I imagine before the smoking ban there wasn't really a no-smoking section because it's a really open floor plan of a bunch of rambing rooms. The menu here is pretty standard with good, fresh seafood. I've had the AYCE shrimp special, going back between the 4 choices of preparation style with the steaming in Yuengling Lager and Old Bay the best by far. The one area I think they could improve upon, and I'm guessing they don't really care about it, is the presentation. The dipping sauces come out in plastic shot glasses and they use what is probably the cheapest cutlery available at the restaurant supply. The food is excellent but it looks kinda slapped on the plate half-@ssedly. It's a thing with me. Still, it's a cool place to spend an evening. The prices are reasonable. read more

We had a date with friends at a near by restaurant at 3PM in the middle of the week. But when we arrived found it closed, didn't realize that a few places in Reading close after the lunch hour and re-open for dinner. So we stopped at the Peanut Bar which had convenient parking in the back. The place was pretty much empty, but this worked in our favor cause it was nice and quiet. Very down home atmosphere and the wait staff were very attentive and pleasant. The food was okay...........and you have a lot to choose from. In my opinion..........I would skip the pretzel pie cake and the apple crisp next time. They were good if you can't pass up dessert- but pure sugar. read more

We took our niece here to celebrate her 17th birthday - Birthdays are truly special here and the staff took our picture and gave it to us as a keepsake - But the big story here is the food - It was awesome! Interesting drinks, delicious appetizers and unique entrees - The service was friendly too and they went above and beyond --- my sister-in-law's phone was dying and one of the managers helped charge her phone so she could use it to navigate home - I live more than an hour away but I might come back for MY birthday!
