Today, Peapod deserves minus 10 stars. They lost me as a customer for sure! I placed an order for delivery for today between 11-1, 4:30 and no delivery. They said they have delays and my order will be 3 hours late, then after numerous calls, waiting on the phone for 20 minutes, leaving messages...I finally got a call back. The rep, Janet, advised me my order is scheduled for delivery between 5:40-6:45, really. They also finally updated the order status update info on their website which continued to state 11-1 until 4:20. I requested a cancellation, a full refund and a confirmation E-Mail and still got nothing. Clearly they are unprofessional, understaffed, and run a terrible operation. They ruined my entire day and I won't use them again. read more

Overall..this service is convenient! On the insistence of a friend, I tried out Peapod, and I have been pleasantly surprised. I've had drivers who were on time, or extremely early..which can be a plus (unless you're coming from somewhere else and now are rushing to meet the driver...btw, sorry bout dat, so enjoy that $ tip). All the drivers have been professional and extremely helpful....especially since they don't mind climbing 4 flights of stairs to get to my apt. There's an elevator, but its on the other side of my building and requires several security key entries to get to my apt...great for feeling safe..but a pain in the butt when I have deliveries. Thankfully, I haven't had any major hiccups with this service..but I also know the difference between what to order within the grocery service, and what to pick up at the store myself. I also really appreciate that they recycle their plastic bags. I usually bring my own eco friendly grocery bag to the driver and fill it with my order (while simultaneously checking my order-(pro tip alert), and the drivers gratefully takes back the emptied plastic bags to the company to be recycled. Overall, I highly recommend for its convenience but double check your order and receipt..and if your driver was awesome, make it rain with a nice tip.. read more

Been a Peapod user for about seven years now and for the most part they have been very helpful in getting groceries to my door. While most drivers are very nice and show up on time, maybe one in twenty gets lost and winds up being late. My main complaint and reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is that one out of a dozens orders always has one or more items missing. And while it is not the drivers fault it still can be quite annoying. Also sometimes with ordering things you need only to find out later that peapod is out of that item or items and you have to buy it elsewhere. There Customer service is good at giving you credit for lost or damaged items but can take a long time to get them to pick up at times. Over all they are a good service but not perfect [who is?] They were very useful during COVID and without them it would have been SO much worse. One last note, I always tip the driver. I suggest you do the same they are hard working people and a $5 or $10 tip goes a long way in your future orders being better. People who do this for a living have long memories and a cash tip is the best way to tell your driver, thanks for your effort and they will most likely go out of the way for you next time. Extremely poor customer service. The details: We decided to use peapod for the first time and MAN were we disappointed. So first of all the only available windows were 8-10 pm. Ok, fine. Then we receive our items without a packing slip and after the guy had been long gone we see that five items were missing. So I contacted customer support and they said they'd re-deliver, which is fine, except that we had to wait two more days for redelivery! And when I inquired about a lack of packing slip, she said that we opted for a paperless receipt. I told her that does not take out the fact that *someone* should be double checking my order- packer, driver, or anyone! Heck I'd even do it if the driver waited a minute. Use Safeway instead. Normally I would not write a negative review, however, the Pea Pod service and customer seevice is poor. The delivery driver was great. Lets get that out of the way. I receivedTHREE pounds of Boars Head bacon that was expired. I did not realize it was expired until I took it out to cook it. I called my local store and was directed to pea pod..... somewhere. On hold three times for a total of 70 min. And I never spoke to customer service person. This is why people like me will never shop in a large chain super market. What would happen if you put a 12 pack of soda, a loaf of bread, some peaches, and a jar of pasta sauce in your washing machine on the spin cycle? If you want to find out, order those things on Peapod! I thought maybe it was a fluke the first time they delivered a 12 pack of soda that was leaking, but nope, it's been 3 times now. I just had the joy of rinsing Pepsi off all my groceries and my kitchen floor. I wouldn't even know how to damage a 12 pack badly enough to make it leak, I wonder how Peapod manages to do it consistently? Also, a loaf of bread in the same bag with a jar of pasta sauce. Really? Guess what happened to the bread? You can't order any produce at all here unless you are OK with substandard produce. To top it all off, if you have any issue, you have to "call customer service". Come on, it's 2019, I can send an email in under 60 seconds, why do I have to call you when it's convenient for you? I want to like this service, but if you're going to keep delivering damaged goods I am going to look for something else. I mean, you have one job: delivering groceries. As I was coming from the hospital last Thursday our daughter and my wife placed an order from Giant to be delivered by Peapod. The ice cream had melted and pops had to be chucked. I have used peapod several times but after my experience with them yesterday I will never use them again. I purchased my groceries a couple days ago for deliver on Thursday between 6-8pm. When I first logged on I noticed my number was wrong so I fixed that before even paying for my order. Shame on me I guess for assuming that their website would update automatically.. Fastwward to Thursday night. I received an email at 630pm stating the driver had arrived and by 730pm he still wasnt at my door but I live in a multi building/unit condo so since I see them here all the time I again assumed others were having deliveries as well. But I called customer service anyway the rep was very nice and apologetic and got intouch with dispatch to call the driver to see where he was at. After multiple attempts dispatch was unable to reach the driver so the rep asked me to give it another few minutes and if he still wasnt there to call back. I said okay no problem and gave her again my new number because she didnt see it in their system and I hung up. After another 45 minutes I called back and this rep said the driver attempted delivery at 630pm but could not get in due to having a secured building. Well my first problem is of course why did I recieve no call and this rep tells me they do not have my new phone number in their system..like really? My second problem is that in my delivery instructions it gives a pin number to dial to gain entry into the building so even if he did call the old number and didnt get a response why did the driver not follow the instructions and dial the pin to get entry into the building? So i just had the rep cancel my order and issue a refund (which i hope I get soon) and told her to have a supervisor give me a call. It has been 12 hours since then and still no call when they are open until 8pm cst. So frustrated! read more

I love Peapod. Like I seriously love Peapod. I work nights and so getting to the grocery store is hard to do. I usually don't wake up until 5pm and then the store is full of people. Plus I get lots of heavy water so Peapod is a God sent. I can do my grocery shopping at work which is awesome!! I always get beautiful wonderfully fresh produce. They always bring all of my order or sub out something similar. My only complaint with it the scheduling. There never seems to be enough time slots. I usually have to schedule a couple days out. Not ideal. And the time frames for delivery are usually very large which leaves me sitting around the house for a large chunk of the day. But it beats carrying in 4 or 5 cases of water so I will continue to use Peapod. read more

I've used Peapod for several years. When I first started, it was wonderful. Cheerful friendly drivers and efficient and friendly customer service. Any issues with quality were fixed quickly. Recently, freshness has nosedived. I received two packages of hoagie rolls that expired on the 5th. My order was for December 3. When I called Customer service, they advised me that their freshness was guaranteed for two days. Two days?! I can understand that for some fresh and/or organic items, but for processed foods, that's unacceptable. A dozen eggs I received on December 30 had a use by date of December 7. Three weeks prior. Also on December 30, I received a package of moldy tomatoes. Emailing customer service now results in a form letter. I have not even addressed the delivery problems. For the last several months they are always late- and not by just a few minutes. Between bad quality, lateness and out of stock items, they have become unreliable in every aspect. I have been using Peapod since 2008. With a solid 8 year history I can tell you that I have seen DRASTIC improvements. The meat, vegetables and overall quality is much better in the last couple of years. Also, delivery times may be late, but I order a LOT of food, for the month and work very long hours. It's totally worth it. The only reason I gave Peapod 4 stars is they do often forget a few items. Or, you get all of your items and a few items of someone else. Horrible!!!! I cannot reach customer service and they charged us for stuff we didn't receive. We also gave the drivers a $20 cash tip and the site charged us $15 tip on top and delivery fee. A $35 tip with groceries missing?!? Everytime I call customer service I get disconnected due to "high call volume" We just moved to this State (VA) and this is the first time using Peapod. Never again, I'll risk COVID19 rather than getting horribly overcharged. I had my first Peapod delivery on April 1. It was difficult to schedule a time but in light of the Covid-19 virus that was acceptable. My husband and I are both seniors. Also, I am sometimes called on to get items, including cleaning supplies, for my non-ambulatory 90-year old mother. She and her caregiver are on lock-down in her senior community. I was grateful for the April 1 delivery although some of the produce was not the best and there were many replacement items. Based on the problems obtaining a delivery time from Peapod, I immediately tried to schedule another delivery for a week later. I was unable to schedule a delivery so I opted for a pick-up at my local Giant. I was able to schedule a pick-up 16 days after the first delivery. That time was cancelled by Peapod. I was able to schedule another pick-up at another Giant a few days after my previously reserved time. As that date approaches, I learned today that Peapod/Giant is again unable to service the new scheduled pick-up. While I have reserved another pick-up time (delivery is impossible), it is a week after the previously scheduled time. No earlier times were available. I hope that Peapod/Giant does not cancel my order a third time. Seriously thinking about going to the store. read more

I will preface this by saying Peapod was great in 2017 when I needed groceries delivered due to a broken ankle. So when I lost enough vision to give up driving, I went directly to Peapod. Big mistake! I am willing to live with ordering a week in advance with the COVID-19 epidemic, but listing items as "in-stock" and getting a notice after the window for modifying the order has passed as not available is not acceptable! No bread (store brand), and instead of the 5 lb. sack of potatoes, they delivered 3 bunches of bananas when I ordered one. I sent them an email about this and got a canned response. No they are not perfect but we have been consistently using them on and off for the last 4 years esp through times when we were too busy to go grocery shopping. Lately we have been using them regularly almost once 2 weeks and they have been a lifesaver. My family would be starving now if not been for peapod. We havent used any other grocery delivery service because we're for the most part satisfied. amazon fresh is too fancy and expensive. Peapod selection is good, prices are good. Delivery is mostly on time, and they always have good deals where they mostly waive the delivery fee. customer service always gives you a refund if something's wrong and they take coupons. After 4 years of peapod monogamy, I was still a little apprehensive to commit but I just signed up their 6 month free peapod pass and I'm stoked. Peapod fits us just right. read more

DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE!! DESERVES "MINUS INFINITY" STARS We placed an order last Wednesday, were given a pickup time 9 days later. Not great, but given the current conditions we accepted that. We went online today to add a few items before pickup tomorrow, and we found that our order shopping cart which had had a weeks worth of groceries in it was now empty. We redid the entire order and then the site "hung" as we went to check out and our pickup time was changed from 3pm tomorrow to 7 pm on Saturday. Then, while we watched, as we were trying to check out, half of our re-entered order disappeared from the cart. While we were marveling at that event, our delivery date changed to a week from tomorrow! We called our local store and they said that "Peapod had a major glitch today" and that we should call them. I told them that we had called Peapod, but that after we were on hold for 47 minutes the line disconnected without our getting to speak to anyone. It is ever BETTER then what I would have picked myself sometimes. We love Peapod. It's like taking a trip to Giant, the grocery store we would frequent if we had to, but thanks to Peapod, we don't have to! We get great produce, meat options, dairy, everything you would get at the grocery store. We've tried all the other options we could find and found Peapod to be the best for our family. They have the most selection. We are a family of five, we need our regular groceries always available and Peapod by far has the best selection and the best availability. Peapod also does the best on delivery options. Whenever I log in they have lots of delivery options to select from. They had less delivery options at the peak of the Covid 19 shutdown, but they quickly addressed that. We've had no issues with contactless delivery. We add our tip ahead of time to our order. All in all, Peapod has been great to us and we plan on using them for a long time. read more

I received a phone call at about 10 minutes to 7 saying the driver couldn't find the largest Military Hospital (Walter Reed) in the state of Maryland. Once the poor guy could find it in his GPS, he refused to drive on base because he didn't want to sign in. The dispatch had the nerve to ask me to come to the front gate and pick up the order. I wish they would fix their platform to notify people earlier in the ordering to delivery process when products are out of stock. I've ordered 3 times during the pandemic and twice I received half of what I ordered. I like to tip based on the dollar amount of what I ordered, and generously because I'm grateful for the service, but when half of what you ordered isn't available, I wasn't able to lower the tip. This last order had long black hair all over the bags, and fresh produce wasn't put in the produce bag before being put in the shopping bag. This all just makes me wonder about sanitary conditions. So, I wouldn't typically order from one of these services, but the $20 off and a free delivery coupon gave me cause to at least give it a try. I was cautious at first, and that would prove to be a sentiment I should have stuck with... Not knowing where exactly I would be at delivery time (there was a 7 hour window), I opted for the unattended delivery option. On delivery day, I got a notice that they would arrive between 8pm and 10pm. At 7:58pm, I got a text that our stop was next, and the driver would arrive shortly. Sure enough, he showed up a few minutes later, and I brought the items inside. There were 3 boxes: 1 formerly frozen goods (all completely melted), 1 formerly refrigerated items (all now at room temperature or above), and 1 non-perishable goods. The formerly frozen goods were in a large Styrofoam cooler. There were only two items, and there was a tiny ice pack at the other end of the cooler. No shock there that the frozen goods were now liquid. The formerly refrigerated goods, although they looked to have been of good quality were now all at or above room temperature. I snapped shots of an infrared thermometer reading the temps of various items to send to customer service, because I'm not sure if any of this stuff is safe to eat at this point. Deli meat was 67 degrees, for example. With no way of knowing how long these items were at room temperature, I'm not quite up for a round of food poisoning to find out. Even the gel ice packs were in the 60 degree range. We'll see how it goes with customer service, but I don't think I'd give them another try. read more

Peapod lost us as customers today. My boyfriend and I don't have a car so we utilize grocery delivery services. After three years of consistently bad and occasionally good service, we have finally decided against using the service again. For the past three weeks alone, the first week our tortillas were expired...not just a week or so, two months expired. Last week, our entire bag of produce was missing. This week, our produce bag was missing AGAIN! I kid you not. Last week they couldn't redeliver until Tuesday 8-10 p.m. with a Friday 5-7 p.m. delivery. It was ridiculous. Deliveries are almost always late. We've gotten cracked eggs, moldy things before, melted ice cream, you name it. Tonight was the last straw with three bad weeks in a row. I placed a Giant Peapod order on Monday, April 20th, all items in my cart showed as available, this morning April 22nd, when the order status was sent it shows 90% of the items I ordered were out of stock. If the items were in stock when I place the order, and paid for it, how is it not available now? My husband was so enraged that he actually purchased a laser thermometer just to prove how unsafe the temperatures of their cold cases are. However, we happened to get a $20 coupon for Peapod on the same day we realized we had no time for grocery shopping. Pros: -Shopping took about a third as long, and there were no impulse buys -Because of the refrigerated truck, the food arrived colder than it would have been if we went to the store -Stuff was much MUCH fresher than we could have gotten in a Giant store. Expiration dates spanned into the future, garlic had no botulism smell, Etc. -Some items were available online that aren't in the store -The driver was on time, efficient, and polite -I didn't have to carry 6 liters of carbonated water around Cons: --Each piece of produce was put in an individual full sized grocery bag with a knot tied at the top. Our single head of garlic was indistinguishable from a big bell pepper because of all the packaging. --Somehow our broccoli got wet (condensation maybe?) and dripped on some of the other foods --Some items weren't available online --If you don't spend at least $50, the delivery fee goes up Overall, I think this is a great option if you are transportation challenged, sick, or too busy to get to the store. I didn't hate the experience, so it's a big step up from going to the Giant stores. The price is around $7.00 plus tip (the Internets suggest $5.00), more than worth it during hell weeks. You'll save more than that by stopping the cycle of "crap, we have no food, because we have no time, because we keep spending time picking up takeout, because we have no time." On a regular week, I'd much prefer driving to Wegmans, but it's really nice to know that this option exists. read more

I couldn't be happier with Peapod!! As a single working male, grocery shopping isn't high on my list of "fun" things to do at night, or on the weekend. Enter Peapod. At Peapod.com in the Montgomery County area they utilize Giant Food stores as their source. Since I'm pretty much a Giant only shopper (it's closest to my house), this worked out great for me as I am familiar with the brands, pricing, etc. Signed in...browsed the aisles...loaded my cart up...paid and BOOM, DONE!! Grocery shopping (ugh) over. Plus, as the website is very well organized, I was able to take advantage of sales, coupons, price card specials, etc. Not only that, but as I was shopping on-line I merely picked those items I needed and didn't waste anytime "browsing" around the store buying things I don't normally need to bring home. A little money saver benefit there in a way... BEST PART!?!? Choose the UNATTENDED delivery service (if you can) and they leave everything at your front door (or where you tell them to) in large, ice pack packed styrofoam coolers! I picked the Saturday 7am-1pm window and went about my Saturday as normal. Returned home from brunch with friends to find my coolers stacked by my front door EXACTLY where I instructed them to be! All food inside was the perfect temperature and packed in Giant Food bags. No issues at all! On my next order (yes, there will be a next order), I was instructed to just leave the coolers out to be taken by the driver. I will be choosing unattended delivery again, as I don't have to deal with drivers or inconvenience myself by waiting around as others have reviewed. They do recommend bringing in your groceries w/in an hour of delivery, but I'm pretty sure my delivery was there a little longer...still with the ice packs my ground turkey, steaks, and milk were all perfectly chilled. Also, if you buy a lot of bottled water, cases of soda, and/or other heavier items...having them brought to your door is a bonus. Peapod = PERFECT for people who hate grocery shopping. If i could give Peapod zero stars i would. I despise this company with every fiber of my being. I joined Yelp just to write about this pathetic excuse for a business. Grievances: 1. Their produce sucks. You request ripe produce, you will get a rock hard avocado, you order peaches, they will have become so dented by the time you receive them that it looks like they have teeth marks. Not to mention the fact that they like to give you bagged salad that is within two days of expiring, or tomatoes that have been entirely squished, coating the rest of your food with tomato guts. 2. Their drivers are rude. They throw your bags around (part of the reason for the produce issues above). They complain. I don't care that you hate your job, or that it's hot outside - i just want my food in my kitchen, and you out. They don't carry pens for you to sign the credit card slips, and expect you to rummage around to find one while they stand there. 3. Their drivers are ungrateful. I used to be a waitress, i know what it's like working for tips. Therefore, I generally give the driver something, even when they majorly suck. 9 times out of 10, they don't say thank you. 4. Their drivers are stupid. Actual quotation from a lost Peapod driver: "Ohh, you're in Northwest DC, not Northeast?" The drivers don't get lost quite as often now that I live in NOVA, but they're still not very bright. 5. Their drivers have no time management skills: I pay a delivery fee, and expect to have my groceries sometime in the two hour scheduled window. Yet, inevitably, every time I order from these people, i will get a call 5 minutes before my window is over, saying that the driver is late and will be there in 45 minutes to an hour. 6. Their customer service people are unreasonable. I don't think that it is out of line for me to request removal of my delivery charge, when a driver is 90 minutes late. I don't think it is unreasonable to request same day re-delivery of completely inedible food, whether it be due to squishing, thawing, being expired, etc. The customer service people will apologize, and that's pretty much it. 7. Their allegedly refridgerated trucks are warm. I have had ice cream arrive as warm sludge. 8. They bag cleaning products with your food. I prefer not to ingest toilet bowl cleaner. 9. They put bread loaves under soup. 10. They run out of items and/or forget to bring items you really need - like toilet paper. There are a lot more problems i have with peapod than what's above, i'm just too angry to think of more now. I suggest switching to Safeway's delivery service - their drivers won't accept tips, so clearly they're paid enough to actually do a decent job. I've ordered from Peapod many times. About 4 years ago when I started using them, they were pretty great. I had broken my foot and it was difficult to get out so the service was convenient. In the past year I have ordered from them sporadically. The last three times I have been extremely disappointed. Each three times they delivered the items saying at least three things were out of stock and weren't included in the order. I have a hard time believing they are out of stock on eggs. They are good about refunding money and addressing customer service concerns, but if I have to go back out shopping to get all the stuff they couldn't deliver, that kind of defeats the purpose. If you're going to Peapod, you have to have realistic expectations. Don't expect amazing produce- if you want that- go pick your own. They try to give you the best- but its subject to individual opinion. But, for packaged things like eggs, milk, cheese, bread, toiletries, etc- there is no problem. Ok- so I have a full time career and a 2 yr old, and I do pretty much everything on my own. So, I love Peapod because, they come when its convenient for me, they bring my food into my house, it saves me carrying my kid, and making mutliple trips to my car to my house, it prevents me from making impulse purchases, I know my total before I hit "buy" and I can take away items if its beyond my budget without feeling ashamed at the cash register. I don't have to deal with a toddler in the grocery store, and for the most part 80% of my purchases are the same every time. In fact, I don't understand why EVERYONE doesn't Peapod. If you're not happy with the quality, just call them! They'll give you your money back- happily! For example, if you have a broken egg, they reimburse you the whole crate. I have done the VIC curbside grocery pick up from Harris Teeter and it doesn't even begin to compare. I am a peapoder for life. Oh! And once you have made your purchases, either in the store or online- it saves your order, so you can just repurchase it again! You can also check the sales easily, so you know you're getting the best prices without clipping coupons. Anyway, just a hint- get the first delivery of the day- that way they wont run late. i've enjoyed this service when I started using it. However, some items have arrived open, other items were missing and fragile items like eggs have been delivered broken. Most disappointing and unacceptable have been the times when the orders didn't arrive on time or when their notification system has broken down. The recent issue didn't forward delivery notifications and the system affected the drivers GPS. I have no idea if my order has been received or processed or even if it is coming today. A customer service agent offered to reschedule my order for delivery on another date or cancel it all together. However, with their system not working properly I don't know how any changes could be accomplished. Also, the order would need to be rescheduled for a work day so the agent's suggestion is not feasible. While I appreciate the convenience that grocery deliveries offer it is highly inconvenient when Peapod is not able to execute their service due to a constantly failing software. read more

Being without a car, I do always look for delivery services for many things. I have used Peapod a few times whenever I want to stock up on more than just the one bag of groceries I am willing to schlep from the nearest store, which is also Giant. The first time, they were late. Two hours later than the delivery window. True, they called me and kept me apprised of this, but I hesitated to order again. Also, this first order, there were a couple of items I ordered which were not in stock, so they substituted them for something else. The alternative items were not something that I would have chosen, so that was a fail. I tried again. The second delivery was good, though it was within the last half hour of the two hour window I had selected. The driver was courteous and offered to check all my eggs and other items before he left. So, the third delivery. It was also close to the end of the delivery window. The order was missing a couple items which I didn't notice until after the driver left. I called customer service and they said the items were out of stock (I'm glad they didn't substitute them) and the driver was supposed to tell me that. Another fail. Well, I have now tried a fourth time. This time and hour and a half after the delivery window. They didn't call me to tell me they would be late until the end of the original delivery window. I scheduled a delivery for 10am-12 noon on a slow Thursday. They called at 12:00 to say it would come at 12:50. At 1:05 they revised it again to 2:35. Pitiful. Use Peapod only if you can sit at home all day waiting for the delivery to come. read more
