Pearls are a very impressive creation. I mean, how can you NOT be awed by a semi-hard, circular, ball of beauty defecated by an ocean mullusk? If only our own excrements were so beautiful. Despite this magnificence, I am not a pearl girl. It just isn't my style. However, I received a pearlparadise.com $200 gift card and thus made my pearl purchases. Let's be clear: Pearl Paradise is located in LA with a showroom where you generally have to make appointments (I think this is just for swank-heightening effect). The concept of this store and website is to make pearls accessible at a lower price. Sadly, I now understand WHY it is discounted. The first problem I had with Pearl Paradise is that my gift card's code was not working on the website's "checkout". Pearl Paradise is only open on weekdays and does not have a regular customer service department (in the realm of a 800-number call center); so I had to leave a voicemail about my issue. They DID get back to me promptly on Monday morning and solved my issue by giving me another gift certificate code. I placed my order by 11am that Monday morning (8mm Freshwater Lavender bracelet with white gold clasp-- $100, Men's 8mm Pearl Leather Bracelet w/ Tahitian Baroque Pearls -- $75 and a Loose Freshwater Lavender Pearl-- $5). There was no shipping (although there is tax) and I was excited to see my pearls delivered. Then came the wait. The extended, harrowing wait which felt like a long, drawn out labor. The pearls didn't arrive for 5 days even though the website GUARANTEES 1-2 day delivery AND the package was sent from the Pearl Paradise on Pico in LA so it was only going across town (I live in the Valley). Five days is the delivery date on packages I order from the East Coast. Not to mention, according to UPS tracking, it first went to Slymar, then Van Nuys, etc. So, the package made a nice circle around LA before arriving to me. Slow delivery aside, the quality of the pearls is rather sad. The jewelry was not packed very well giving it the impression that it was thrown into the package on a whim. The Lavender bracelet? It looks like costume jewelry from the Barbie line for a 5 year-old and even worse: it is NOT the deep lavender color pictured on the website but instead a light, pale pink. The same color mistake applies to the loose "lavender" pearl which is also so oblong that I assume a mollusk with an off-day created it. The men's leather bracelet looks like the homemade creation of materials from Michael's crafts with opaque pearls with black swirls even though the website showed a photo of solid, black pearls. I am aware that all pearls are one-of-a-kind so they can't look exactly like the photo but this was just unbelievable. To say the least, from shipping to the resulting pearls, this was a huge disappointment. Pearl Paradise is like the Ross of pearl stores. Discounted, knock-off products presented in a messy way. Surprisingly (sarcasm), the high 5-star reviews are from Yelp "orange heads". read more

As I have yet to receive the pearls so I can't comment on the quality, but I can comment on the quality of this company keeping their word. Meh. They have great pearls! I only wear mikimoto quality pearl and i was impressed with the pearl from PP. Their return process is easy, when I returned the necklace because they were a little big for my petite neck, it was very smooth. I feel very confidence shopping there. I purchased Hanadama 8-8.5mm studs from their online website pearlparadise.com. I paid $332 for what would have cost me close to a minimum of $1500 to 2500 if it were Mikimoto in the same size and grade. When held side by side with my Mikimotos that I already own, the PP Hanadamas were slightly whiter but the luster was the same. They came with a certificate from Japan and with a GIA appraisers letter and cleaning cloth and tissue. I did take away one star because they had computer glitches when I ordered and I had to call thrice to finally get my pearls on the way to me. They didn't arrive in 2 days as the website says but took 9 days however they were super pretty. Do not expect them to be like Mikimotos but for what you pay they are pretty darn good. Also since mine were just studs you can't tell much of a difference. I would order from this company again. read more

When you spend a large sum of money on something you expect the service to be at an equivalent level. I am currently deployed and was looking for a nice set of pearl earrings for my wife to celebrate our 3 year wedding anniversary. Unfortunately I had no choice but to shop online. After reading several reviews online and judging by their relationship with the BBB, I decided to go with pearlparadise.com I was disappointed by the selection online with the smaller white south sea pearls listed as out of stock for practically every white gold earring I looked at. I went ahead and placed an order for the one size larger (10-11mm) pearl setting for an additional $310. The next day I receive an email explaining that there was an error with the website inventory and that the earrings I ordered were not in stock. I was given the option to change my order to a similar setting. I asked if the smaller pearl was available for the original setting to go with that, otherwise I was willing to go with the other setting. A short while later I receive an email stating a package had been shipped from pearlparadise but I never received an email explaining which setting was shipped. I later wrote an email asking for clarification as to which setting was sent which was responded to in 1 day. I added a note to my order that these were an anniversary gift. Since we live overseas customs paperwork has to be completed with a description of the contents. Most companies use a generic description such as "personal items", "household goods", or "electronics", etc. However, they plainly wrote "earrings" on the paperwork (along with the exact cost) - so much for surprising my wife. Overall, pretty disappointed with my purchase, hopefully the quality of the earrings makes up for where they lack in service. read more

I am really frustrated right now, because I didn't sign up for yelp before I wrote my review. The button said "join and post" but didn't work so I lost my first lengthy comment. I have been a loyal customer for about 8 years. If I didn't like Pearl Paradise so much, I would have quit in frustration, but they deserve the highest reviews possible. And if you don't like your pearls, send them back, no questions asked. I have received pearls I didn't like because the overtone was wrong or I didn't like where a blemish was placed, so I called and said so. They made every effort to give me satisfactory pearls in exchange or took them back, with no hassle. I am a huge fan of lavender pearls and started collecting them in 2006. I have bought them from Chinese outfits on eBay and assorted online stores. The lavenders are never dark enough for my taste, though they do look their darkest in the evenings or by candlelight and look their lightest in the sun. The lavender pearls from PP are about as good as they get for darkness, which honestly aren't darker than lavender. I have only gotten about 12 single pearls I would call dark enough to be purple and those were on mixed color strands and way off round or baroque, because there aren't dark lavender or purple strands enough to sell in strands without a huge price jack up. I suppose I could order such a strand, but it would take a while to put it together, even if baroque pearls were OK! And. it would not be inexpensive. These guys have only gotten better over the years and Jeremy Shepherd is an outstanding online pearl seller. Down below when you punch the post button, where they ask abut the price range, I would say they are inexpensive for the quality, but they are never cheap schlock pearls.! They are online, so the parking and appointment questions are not applicable though that is not one of the choices. They do take appointments at their headquarters, but they are an online business, and only allow for one appt a day in person. I have been there when I came into LA from from my out of state home and I must say their vault is overwhelming. They have stuff they don't advertise online that is only available if you know enough to phone and ask, or if you come in in person. In the 8 years I have shopped there, the owner Jeremy Shepherd has seen a meteoric rise in the small cliquey pearl world because he is so knowledgeable and has such high standards. The pearls on both the necklase and the earrings had very visible gouges and inperfections. Moreover, the clasp on the pearl necklace is not stamped as being gold. I ordered a Tahitian black pearl pendant offered by the Today Show Steals and Deals. Orders are supposed to be received within two weeks. After more than 3 weeks, I contacted PC and was told they were struggling to fill the orders, but my pendant should be shipped in a day or so. Within a few days the order arrived and appears as though it was just thrown together. The sterling silver chain is very light with no clasp. Although the chain is supposed to be 24 inches long, it really is too short and fragile to be putting it on and off over your head. Their customer service did respond by email, but not to address my concerns, only to assure me that it was not meant to have a clasp and is supposed to be put on over my head. They also assure that the pearl is real and the chain is .925 sterling silver and asserted that this is a FINAL sale. This is not a necklace that I would have paid $79.00 for had I seen it beforehand. This is a lesson to me in making this kind of purchase, but also to others that may consider a purchase from Pearl Collective sight unseen. Buyer beware! read more

If you are looking for pearls, this is an excellent place to buy them. They have a website, PearlParadise.com but if you live locally in the Southern California area, you can make an appointment to go in and see the pearls you're interested in. I'm not a pearl expert by any means but I love them and I've seen quite a few of them. I can say without hesitation that you will get very good quality at good prices. I recently bought a pair of the best grade of Akoya pearl earrings for a friend's daughter who is getting married and needed pearls. I compared the ones I got for her with a pair I bought from my sister-in-law's relative who is a jeweler and had a shop in the Mission Viejo mall. He only deals with high-end jewelry. I found out that the pair I bought from Pearl Paradise is of a better quality than the pair I bought from the jeweler relative. The ones I bought from Pearl Paradise had the same luster and round shape and the same rose-silver hue but they are also flawless and I can't say the same about the pair that I own. Their Pearls are not claimed quality, I bought an AA+ quality bracelet, the quality description is clean surface 90% or better-this is not the case, I have a huge halo ditch going around the pearl, the matching states excellent to good-well the whole bracelet is very obvious the pearls are not uniformed, some large ones at the end, smaller ones in the middle? I don't know what kind of cheap French wire they used around the clasp, the thread is showing. The bracelet looks like a cheap, homemade using material from Michaels, and it cost me a 100 dollar! My husband bought me a strand of necklace(rice shaped) from Costco and the quality of the pearls and craftsmanship are way better, it is jewelry quality-the one from pearlparadise does not even look like a piece of jewelry. I am so glad I did not buy the AAA quality, I will be just wasting money. The shipping charge I already paid is non refundable, I don't want to spend 25 dollar to ship it back to the states. read more
