I had a very good experience at this pearl fever tea house. The drink was very good, price was cheap, and the inside was very nice & warm :) Service was very good at this location. I went on a Saturday night and there was a lot of space inside. Our drinks came out quick and tasted good. Price was also very good, especially for the size of drink that you get! Came here with my friend while hanging around UBC. There were 2 bbt places including Coco and Pearl Fever on Yelp and we had some struggles finding Pearl Fever near food court and Subway area. The location was quite difficult to find unless you live around the dorm or studying at UBC. It was at the rear area next to Subway and the direction was quite confusing for us. Anyways, the drinks weren't too exciting to begin with. It was a very slow day when we walked in. Menu was pretty basic. No brown sugar milk tea or fancy stuff like roasted milk tea or Thai milk tea, it's just the cheap powdered stuff mostly. We had UFO with pearls (Icecream coffee float $5.95) and Taro Slush with pearls ($6.10 and 60 cents for pearls) they were okay. My drink was okay, but the pearls didn't taste good. My friend didn't like her Taro Slush it tasted too chalky. She didn't like it. Price was too expensive for drinks. Pearls were extra charge. Service was average. The store was pretty slow and the staff wasn't friendly enough. My pal needed to use washroom, but the area was blocked so people don't use it. read more

Some of my favourites include black twist, matcha ice cream, passion fruit tea (when I'm feeling something light) and green milk tea. Service here is super good as well. I was pleasantly surprised with my taro slush. I had previously had a bad experience with pearl fever tea house and hadn't come visit in the last year. Today I went for a quick drink and ordered the fresh taro slush with added fresh taro as a topping. (If you can't tell I LOVE fresh taro). The drink was large with lots of fresh taro blended into the milk slush. Each sip of drink came with nice tiny chunks of taro. The fresh taro at the bottom was small pieces of taro instead of the typical mashed taro at stores like baroness or coco. It gave the drink a nice texture, almost like a little snack! For 6.30 cad, it was a really worth it drink. My boyfriend got the honey milk tea with boba, it's sweetened with honey instead of sugar (I assume it's a little healthier). I was so surprised by how flavorful the drink was! The honey is such a nice addition and the milk tea was super creamy and sweet! The boba on the other hand was quite hard and a much lower quality in comparison to stores like xingfutang. I would definitely order the drinks but avoid the boba!! I wanted to start this review with the disclaimer that (unlike the rest of Vancouver) I am not a pearl tea connoisseur. In fact, my first time ever even having it was this summer and after going to Pearl Fever twice in the same week a month or two ago, I had only had a total of 4 bubble teas... and now I think I'm hooked. This location is convenient as it is on campus and a short walk from school and my house (which is dangerous for my waistline and my bank account - yikes). The first one I tried from here was the mango slush with pearls and I was very satisfied. I asked for half sweet because me friends did and they had gone there more than me so I assumed they knew what was up. I am glad I did. It was the perfect sweetness half sweet - don't think I could really drink it if it was at what I imagine full sweetness would taste like. When I go to new places and try something that I like I often will continue going back and only ordering that thing, but I wanted to try something new the next time I went back. This time I got taro slush with half coconut jelly and half bubbles (kind of switching it up). This was also so good! Absolutely loved the taro and I think that will be my new favourite, however, I wouldn't recommend mixing coconut jelly with pearls. They would often get stuck in my straw together and I didn't really like the taste of them together (but each separately are great). I think my new go-to will be taro slush with pearls half sweet - give it a try! Each of these drinks were just under $6, which I think it a fair and pretty standard price. Pearl Fever is the best place on campus to get your bubbletea kicks. Located at University Village, just on the other side of Damask, Pearl Fever is a great place to meet friends after class and just enjoy some good old bubbletea. They have a small seating area in one corner with a couple comfy couches, although these are almost always taken. There are a couple small tables, but most of the other seating consists of tall tables with bar stools. In the summer it's nice to sit outside at one of their umbrella tables. They have a large menu with different varieties of bubbletea, but the sweet purple taro is always my favorite here. Many of their drinks are made with the sweet powder mix rather than the real fresh stuff, but it's still just as good. They also have snacks available, mainly sweets like cheesecake and tarts. It'd be nice to see them start serving hot foods like noodles or something, making the place even more enticing for tired students at the end of the day. Good bubble tea, they offer some interesting flavours with some seasonal options and a variety of toppings. Their pearls have a really nice texture, very smooth but still chewy. I didn't see it on the menu but they do let you adjust sugar and ice levels. They also have a "build your own smoothie" option which gives you lots of choices (including milk substitutes). They also have a rewards app which is really nice if you live in/around UBC and want to visit often. read more

Well, now I have diabetes. I've tried quite a few bubble tea places in Vancouver, and this was by far the worst. The offerings sound delicious, but all the flavourings are sugar-loaded syrups and not fresh fruit like 99% of other bubble tea places in Vancouver. I couldn't even finish mine! Pearl Fever is a good bubble tea place in the UBC area. I go there every couple of weeks to satisfy my Bubble Tea cravings. Their prices are tad bit high, in comparison to most bubble tea places. They dont have set recipes for all their drinks. (However, they do have a sign that warns customers that their drinks are not always made the same way) But i still love their bubble tea, and will continue to be a loyal customer. I have never been a huge fan of bubble tea. But since my friend insisted on us meeting there, I thought fine I will give bubble tea another try. Didn't end up getting bubble tea anyway. I ordered the red bean milk (warm) which was neither too sweet nor bland. The staffs were pretty friendly when I asked about the drink. The only downside was the atmosphere. They don't have a board or signages showing what fruits they are out. So even when on the menu they say they have it, don't trust it. You can either cut the line to go to the front to specifically ask them if they have the fruits you want today :), or you can be like me, who waited for eight minutes and then, "NO PAPAYA". (Btw, sometimes they are out of almond milk as well, fellow lactose-intolerant East Asians and blacks~) And last time, when I specifically asked the server that "can I use my voucher" and she said yes, I then scan my account barcode and she deducted from my balance anyway.... hopefully I get to use my reward before it expires.... yes, there's an expiration date ON YOUR REWARD. (Can I get refund for the rest of money on the app? I'm aware of the new $40 reload I get a free drink thing. I did it by myself right in front of counter today just to be informed later that I have to do it at the counter instead of doing it myself. I guess it's my "fault". I don't like bubble tea, but I do like ice cream smoothies and the like. This place run out of pearls quite a bit - which may annoy some people, but I don't like pearls. Tip with any of the drinks with ice cream: even if you don't get pearls, get a thick straw and stir the drink around once in a while. I can't believe I never wrote a review of this place earlier! I would say this is the best places on campus to get your bubble tea fix. They use fresh fruits in their slushies and their pearls are always of good consistency. Plus, they sell yummy-looking cheesecake desserts at less than $5 per slice. I'm sure the same thing would cost around $7-8 in Death by chocolate or similar places. But what I was really impressed with, and aim to try next time, was their loose leaf tea selection. Recently I downloaded their rewards points app (aka Starbucks copycat rewards app) and got myself a free drink. Without the app, I wouldn't have bought bubble tea here because the prices are actually pricey. I was able to tailor my order to unsweetened and with no ice. TIP: order without ice because you actually get a larger portion because the ice isn't in the way and you don't get diluted tea and water condensation all over your hands when the ice melts. Certain flavours such as black tea and oolong tea are premade, so you can't sub for soymilk. I tried the oolong flavour and I was that they use loose leaves to steep each batch. It was alright but I wish there was a stronger tea flavour. I chose unsweetened oolong milk tea because the the pearls are sweetened and the combination of unsweetened tea and sweet pearls = the right amount of sweetness for my BBT. Well I tried it once and I don't think I need to try it again cause I am not a huge fan of BBT but with the rewards app, I guess there is a greater incentive for BBT fans to buy from them instead of going to Bubble Waffle Cafe. read more

My mother went to the store on Feb.26th, between 6pm~ 7pm. It was her first time visiting the store. She told me that female staff was VERY UNFRIENDLY to help her out when she was confused with Milk green tea and green tea. She didn't even asked her if she wanted it as "iced" or "hot". So she got her drink that staff seem to "assume" what she wanted. Since my mom weren't helped by the staff enough, she got a drink that she was not satisfied. But since she already paid it, she asked the staff if she can get some milk in it because she couldn't take a second sip. However, the staff refuse to give the milk arrogantly. First off, I would say that I'm not exactly the bubble tea guru here, more of the "specialized" bubble tea guru -- meaning the way I judge a bubble tea place is by ordering the exact same, simple drink that I believe should be the staple item of every bubble tea place: Milk Tea with Pearls. I grew up with my dad teaching me what good-quality milk tea and the Hong Kong-style milk tea mixed with coffee should taste like. My dad was so serious about it that every time we would go back to Hong Kong we would stock up on a particular brand of black tea, and not to mention, he has his own Italian-made espresso coffee machine at home. I would say I've developed quite a palette for milk tea. Most bubble tea places put WAY too much sugar into their milk teas, which may be used to cover up the cheap, re-used tea leaves that they use (it's a guess). But the milk tea at Pearl Fever, yes it may be still on the really sweet side, but I can taste the tea much better than the milk tea from Bubble World (which I refuse to drink bubble tea from). Another thing about Pearl Fever that I like is that you can actually tell the server to lessen the sugar, or change the milk that they use on your drink...so their milk tea on being too sweet? There's your solution. I'm also a huge fan of tapioca (what the pearls are made of), and let me tell you: Hard tapioca (looks like it's solidly round)= not completely cooked/it's been cooked but sat in your fridge overnight Chewy and with a slight bounce to it tapioca (looks like it's round, solid in the centre, but a little less solid around the exterior) = perfect! Not chewy at all, mushy-looking tapioca (looks not round at all -- defies the "pearl" effect) = overcooked tapioca (ugh!) Unfortunately, Pearl Fever is only located in a select few locations around the Lower Mainland, so it's not exactly a huge chain like Bubble World is...closest one for me is this one at UBC. As it is located on campus, it's one of the many places that UBC students flock to on their breaks. The place is always well-kept and clean and well-lit so it's a good studying/project meeting place (for those who like to study in a relatively loud environment). Another thing I absolutely love about Pearl Fever is their simple stamp system (I know that it's the norm to have that at bubble tea places). Get a stamp card, and you get a stamp for every drink you order that is $3.50 or over before taxes. No subcategories on getting stamps for drinks at different price levels. Just get 10 stamps on any drink that is over $3.50, and you get a free drink of your choice (I think it has to be under $4.50 before taxes? Will confirm later). My regular Milk Tea with Pearls is $3.75 before taxes, so I get a stamp pretty much every time I go! I have already got at least 4 stamp cards filled up, and I have saved it up for ordering a special treat. Like any economical consumer, I collect the stamps by buying drinks near the minimal price requirement, and then I use the filled stamp card to get a drink at the maximum price allowed. I love the Milk Tea with Pearls AND it's near the minimal price requirement...isn't that just great? P.S. Whenever I go to eat along West Broadway...I sometimes would drive up to UBC JUST to get Milk Tea with Pearls at Pearl Fever...THAT's how good I think they are. read more

Let it be known, I'm a stickler when it comes to pearls, and therefore rate most bubble tea places on their pearls, and Pearl Fever does a pretty good job on their pearls. It's always nice when the pearls are still super warm because they were freshly made! The flavors are a little sweet, but I find that their plain milk tea is a good choice when you want something less sweet. They are nicely strong, and unlike some places, they don't use ice so that they only have to give you half of the actual amount of drink. They do run out of pearls sometimes, but their coconut jelly is really good too. All in all, I don't think I've ever gotten something from them I did not like, or would not be willing to order again. They can be a little slow getting orders out sometimes, especially if it's really busy. read more

This is the first restaurant/cafe where the staff refuse to give a refund even though their drink was so sweet I couldn't take a second sip! I had asked for "no sugar" and when the drink finally arrived, it was still so sweet I had to turn the car back to inform the staff. They said even without sugar, their syrups are still very sweet. However, they failed to mention this when I specified my order. She said they can't make a drink that's not sweet. So I said fine, I'll just get my money back. Then she said she would like to but management doesn't allow refunds! What?!? She finally agreed to try making the drink with less water and ice because she said management doesn't allow them to add more fruit. That didn't work and the drink had as much water as before and was completely undrinkable again. I ended up dumping it. That cost $5! Recommend any other bubble tea place but not this one for sure! Don't have this issue anywhere else in Vancouver, wonder why the customer service concept is so bad here? read more

Yay for not using powders! But I do agree with other posters that their drinks with syrup can be rather sweet. The trick is to ask for them less sweet / half sweet. My favourite drink is honey green tea (less honey) with half pearls, half coconut jelly. I hang out there and work on my laptop sometimes for a change of scene. Since they do not make food (other than the desserts) they do not mind if you eat food from other places there with your bubble tea. I have never had bubble tea elsewhere that was better, but I think perhaps I also need to try more places ;) read more

Ouch, my fillings! Maybe it was the day we went, but the sickly-sweet syrup was set on 'stun'! Decent selection, though, and nice outdoor seating shared with Vera's next door. Pearl Fever is definitely the best place for bubble tea on the UBC campus. We usually order the passionfruit green tea and the matcha ice cream smoothie blended with red beans. Both are really good by any bubble tea standard. Prices are fair and you won't have to wait very long for your drink because it usually isn't that busy. read more

i came here after school with a friend, and we both got milk teas. i got black milk tea with pearls, at $4.90(tax included) and my friend got green jasmine milk tea The shop is really clean and the decor is fresh looking, and its super cool because the menu is displayed on a TV mounted on the wall Now for the bbt... The pearls were really well prepared. Its not my personal taste. They were cooked very consistently(there wasn't any random hard or soft ones, they were all the exact same consistency) but they were on the drier, crunchier side, which i didn't like because you really had to chew them The actual milk tea was pretty watery and a bit bitter. It could've been a little sweeter but thats just my personal taste P.S. I felt really bad since there was a guy with a girl, and i'm pretty sure they were on a date, but anyway, he ordered a taro bbt and he said it was his first.
