Enjoyed it! Hubby and I were visiting Vancouver for the first time, and I HAD to hop into the nearby bookshop (Massy Books) when we were in Chinatown. As I casually went towards Massy Books, I noticed this loose leaf tea place (hubby LOVES loose leaf tea) and mentally bookmarked to visit after the bookstore. After the damage from the bookstore was done (support your local bookstores/businesses!), I decided to take a peek into Treasure Green Tea Company! There was one employee, as well as the owner, so I was able to get a good feel of the shop without any pressure to buy anything. I did end up getting a few items, but I really wanted the hubby to check it out in case he wanted specific things (especially the gaiwans!!). After having dinner across the street (Phnom Penh, of course, and get the buttered beef!), I dragged the hubby over to Treasure Green Tea Company to absorb the gloriousness of their store. We probably stayed there for at least an hour ("digestive shopping"), bought quite a few things, and was able to request items to be shipped back to California (because I already filled up our luggage with books, lol). We got out package a week later without any issues, and hubby has been enjoying the tea and tea cups. Service was great, and the owner was very personable and knowledgeable. Shop was clean, and I loved the tall shelving so that you can really see everything they had. Will probably be back whenever we're in the area. read more

Discovered this place because of the popular restaurant across the street. I've taken all my friends here over the last few days! Seriously, my friends have been coming DAILY for the iced teas. They were all in love with the first drink they tried, but once they tried a new drink, it became their new favourite. My personal favourites were the green dragon and the orange flavoured one. What I like about these iced Teas are that they aren't just plain black tea with ice. They are a blend of tea, sugar, herbs, fruit, and more. The drinks are a bit pricey, but totally worth the experience and what you're getting. Longevity isn't everything these days. Many companies like TreasureGreen essentially use their reputation to their advantage sometimes. Here is why! The matcha is not really fresh or even the least bit ceremonial! They tell you to freeze it because the matcha is stale. Definitely the worst matcha I've ever experienced. Feels and looks like it is culinary grade but sold as ceremonial. Impossible to froth and taste super bitter :( the worst part is they are claiming it is Organic Ceremonial Grade... this is why it's difficult to trust even local shops who do not have organic certifications. They will always find a way to shortcut and earn an extra buck because they are not "regulated or controlled" by the USDA or Canada Organic. TreasureGreen is also very overpriced compared to other tea shops. I've never seen White Silver Needle go for nearly triple the price... @tenrenstea is definitely the better shop. @o5tea in Kitsilano is solid too. Make sure to ask for Jeff! The fresh matcha pictured is the award-winning "Asahi" sold @o5tea . Single-cultivar awarded by the emperor himself x3!!! Lastly, please do not buy Treasure Green's bamboo scoops aka Chashaku. EDIT: I initially had a great experience as the workers had so much knowledge on the varieities of tea and tea sets they had. I had my eye set on a travel tea set, which wasn't cheap. I checked out with the item and noticed that on the first day of use, there was a chip. It was extremely disappointing as I not only spent a lot of money for something of good quality, but I was under the impression that if I took good care of it it would last a longer time than 1 use. Stopped by here because I was really hot and thirsty. When you walk through you feel like you have been transported to the most luxurious tea shop. It is decorated very aesthetically modern but also traditional. They have all kinds of tea and tea accessories you can think of. I looked at their menu for something cold. I can't believe this place only has 25 reviews. I was a little grumpy from a brief encounter earlier at a nearby steamed bun restaurant but after leaving this tea place, I felt so zen and calm. The woman that helped us was delightful and we can tell she was passionate about all things tea related. What a gem! I had bookmarked Treasure Green Tea Company while visiting Vancouver last weekend to check it out with my tea-fanatical boyfriend and was blown away by the quality of our experience. Treasure Green Tea Company is conveniently located in the heart of Vancouver's Chinatown and is a tasteful store filled with high-quality teas and tea-ware from China. I mostly went in to browse and sample the teas, but once we started talking to Olivia, the owner of the store, we realized that we were in for a rare treat- a traditional Chinese tea ceremony. Olivia is an incredible source of knowledge for those who are interested in tea; she sources them herself by visiting the tea farms in China and knows exactly how they are harvested, so no mass production in this store! The store wasn't so busy on Saturday morning so we ended up having an impromptu yet exquisite tea ceremony with Olivia for almost two hours in which she explained the different grades of green tea, how terracotta affects the taste, which seasons are best for which teas, and so much more, all the while deftly brewing and creating our tea ceremony experience with traditional Chinese tools. Truly, there is so much to be learned from Olivia, and even if you're not a regular tea-drinker, like myself, you find yourself feeling entirely soothed by this experience. By the end of two hours, we had tried many different types of oolong and green teas and happily purchased some teas to take home. The tea ceremony? Just part of the experience of visiting Treasure Green Tea Company. Let me start by saying that I don't like writing negative reviews. Small businesses have enough problems that they don't need a devastating Yelp review scaring away potential customers just because one person had a bad experience. But, my problems with Treasure Green have proven ongoing, and apparently intentional on the part of the owner. We have purchased several hundred dollars worth of tea here over a few visits in the past couple of years. We enjoy the shop and the tea tasting and buying experience is generally quite good. They do have several high-quality tea and a nice assortment of teaware. However, each time we purchased, we were served one tea, which was quite good, but sold something of much lower quality. The first time this happened, I chalked it up to an oversight or just normal tea variation. The second time it happened, it was pretty obvious. But, since several other teas we purchased were of pretty good quality, I let it go. But, this last time, at least two of the teas we purchased were definitely not what we were served in the tasting. It was the same type of tea, but MUCH lower quality. Unfortunately, they were both really excellent teas that we tasted, so I bought up quite a bit. So, I was quite disappointed when I got home and found that what I was sold was not what I had tasted. I am an experienced Chinese tea enthusiast, with decades of experience. So, I know what factors such as water quality, teaware, and preparation have on the taste of the tea. Even given the greatest benefit of the doubt for these factors, there was no doubt we had been sold inferior tea, almost certainly intentionally. Fortunately, I had closely examined the steeped leaves of one of the teas we tasted. They were large and unbroken with no stems. The tea I was sold consists of small tea and stem fragments. That was the final proof I needed. So, I will never buy from them again. I would buy teaware, since they have a nice selection at decent prices, but as a matter of principle, I don't want to give them any more of my money. That said, if that doesn't bother you, I would recommend them for teaware - just not tea. Even with all of this, I still might recommend Treasure Green for beginners. It is a good place to go if you are unfamiliar with Chinese tea and want to learn more and get a sense of what you like and don't like. The experience caters nicely to Westerners, while still providing an authentic Chinese tea experience. Unfortunately, the bait-and-switch is somewhat prevalent in the tea industry, particularly when selling to Westerners who are presumed to not know any better. It is just a matter of economics. Why sell the good stuff with a lower profit margin to someone who won't appreciate the difference? Even so, one expects that, having earned the respect of the seller, over time, that they start to actually sell you the good stuff. Treasure Green has good tea. I have been impressed by most of the teas I have tried there. They just don't sell it, apparently, at least not to everyone. One last word of caution. Olivia, the owner, is fairly knowledgeable about tea, and a great resource for beginners. However, she is not what I would call a tea expert. It is understandable that, since she is running a business, she should self-promote to attract customers. But, you should understand that she is more skilled at running a beautiful business, than she is knowledgeable about the tea itself. That said, the shop is quite beautiful, a very pleasant experience, and good tea can be found there. So, even with all my criticisms, I would recommend visiting at least once. Just be extremely cautious and aware when buying tea from them. read more

During my recent visit to Vancouver, my friend was craving boba (bubble tea, as they call it in Vancouver) so we popped into this tea shop that was located near his apartment. Although they didn't actually have bubbles, my friend ended up getting an iced oolong tea with orange zest, which looked and smelled delicious, although I couldn't partake due to my citrus allergy. I ended up coming back later on that evening. After a long day out, I was looking for a place to just sit and sip on a warm drink and possibly charge my phone while I waited for my friend to get back. The tea-rista (Bridgett, sp?) and owner Olivia were both super accommodating and let me use an outlet. I ordered a hot oolong that was recommeInded by the tea-rista, which she made wonderfully. Each batch of tea was made separately, with such patience, and she continued until my entire cup was full. I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with her during this tea-making process. It was also great to hear about how the tea shop was passed down to Olivia from her father. Apparently, she hosts tea tasting events at the Vancouver Art Gallery. This not just a place to buy tea but to indulge one's senses. I am not a big tea drinker but after a visit to Treasure Green one leaves with a better appreciation and enjoyment of tea. Have you ever noticed that when someone is a master, whether it be master carpenter, zen master or in this case tea master, there is a presence about them. They somehow exude an aura of their deep knowledge. Such is Olivia Chan, Tea Master. Olivia learned it from her father and then from her own studies and travels. And like a great master, her goal is to share what she's found with people who will appreciate it. I've always liked tea but never knew much about it. Consequently I never really appreciated it. Kind of like drinking cheap wine all your life without paying much attention to where it's from. OK so I don't want to make it sound like this is going to school and you'll be lectured to. Nope, It's not like that. Like good tea, Olivia's store, Treasure Green Tea is both stimulating and peaceful. Everything in the store, the tea boards, cups and paraphernalia are remarkable, you can contemplate them like artwork, and they are that. But the real experience is to sit at the counter while Olivia picks out a suitable tea, which she then serves in such a way as to bring out its aromas, subtle taste and textures. And the tea changes on each subsequent pouring. It is magical, fun and charming. The only thing one could compare it to is a wine tasting. They say in vino veritas, and I would say in tea, transcendence. Whatever you do, don't drop in and order a tea to go. I take that back, it will still be the best tea you're going to get this side of Quanzhou but you'll miss the experience of having it presented by a charming and engaging tea master. read more

My wife and I were on our Honeymoon and we decided to check out both the Chinatown, one in Richmond, BC and the other one Vancouver. We saw a restaurant called PHNOM PENH, this is a place we wanted to eat for dinner. However, we had some time to kill, so we saw this tea shop across the street from there. WOW! Was I blow away! First thing I saw when I came in was Oliva Cheung demonstrating and describing different teas and letting us taste it while pour us and explaining to us the tea we were drinking. She was super friendly and walking in this place is a place that alot of locals come and not many tourist but WOW I WAS amazed. I thought I knew about tea (having drank alot of starbucks) I found out I knew nothing about tea culture and tea itself LOL! (**Side Note** this is more of a local place, so if you are expecting some fancy commercial tea like Lipton or Starbuck tea... you are definitely in the wrong place. This is a place where its for folks who enjoy cultured tea. So please come to this place with an open mind and don't be one of those "I am American, I know everything about tea cause I drink from starbucks"-- That was the attitude I had) Experience: 5 Olivia was wonderful, she welcomes you in and doesn't make you feel like an outsider. She listens and asks what your drinking habits are like such as do you drink alot of tea/coffee, does your stomach get upset and bloated and etc. From then she will give you recommendations about what tea you would enjoy and you can taste it. Note to self don't need to look at the menu, cause thats just going to distract you. So just come in and enjoy the experience and bring some tea back home. Tea Tasting: 5 Tea that she offered me was the fireball, Snow Chrysanthemum tea and this aged tea that was really good. She explains the most important thing about making teas is the water temperature. I enjoyed the tea and company we had. Alot of folks there come in on a daily basis and she knows them by name. I definitely recommend this place, I wish that one day Anthony Bourdain would come here to check this place out. It has taken me awhile to get there and it is my loss for delaying so long. This isn't your ordinary bubble tea shop, it's an awesome high quality tea shop with great customer service to boot. I'm often skeptical of tea shops in tourist areas because the idea of a classy, modern tea shop doesn't register in my Chinese American brain. Immediately, when my friend and I walked in, we were greeted and asked if we wanted to try any teas. Olivia was very professional and knowledgeable about all kinds of teas. She was also very accommodating and always asked us what kind of flavor palettes (i.e. strong aftertaste, light crisp/refreshing) we preferred. She also gave us some tips on how to properly prepare teas and specific brew times. After some samples, we ordered a cup of Olivia's personal concoction: a cold-infused iced green tea with frozen grapes. Very yummy and perfect on a summer day. The frozen grapes keeps the drink cold and adds a light sweetness without any additional sweeteners. In the end, we grabbed 50g of Chun Feng Jasmine Green (Second Grade) 春風 and Yin Hao (Silver Tip) Jasmine Green (First Grade). We also got a bag of her personal blend of green tea designed for cold infusion iced tea. This is the only place that I go for my Chinese tea. The owner is extremely knowledgeable about tea, the service and tea tastings served in traditional methods are unmatched by any other shop in Vancouver. The cold-infusion iced teas are amazing- definitely the best I've ever had and since I've had my fair share being only a tea drinker. That's right- cold infusion... not just making tea with hot water and then putting it in the fridge. The particular care and time needed to prepare this definitely comes though in the flavor you get with their iced teas.
