During a 70 minute dinner this past week, we saw our emotionless server a complete total of two times. Once, when we were able to place a drink and food order, and then again, when they came by to ask if we were done and unceremoniously leave the machine we could pay our check with. The kitchen staff did a fantastic job of bringing our food (which was wonderfully prepared and tasty), but we really could have used another round of drinks, at a minimum. If you're going to hire people who only do the bare minimum, don't expect much repeat business

I think that the owner studied the Japanese food menu very well. Offering Tonkotsu Ramen & Nigiri Sushi! Nice try! Don't forget to offer a glass of Japanese Highball to the customers. We have been here many times over the years and always come away with mixed feelings. First the…read moredecor is vintage "low rent class" not quite dirty but close, ala 1960 style and has never been upgraded or renovated. It certainly is not inviting or even remotely attractive. They consistently scrimp on customer comfort. I understand a hibachi restaurant is warmer than normal due to the hot grill but at Nagoya the heat in the restaurant was almost unbearable. Looking around the restaurant revealed multiple people fanning themselves. The heat was very uncomfortable and I asked our wait person if he could adjust the air conditioning. He seemed confused and went to a light switch. I told him we needed cool air not the light switch. He left and another employee came and adjusted the thermostat. When we could tell no improvement I asked him again and he related the thermostat was "turned way down to 70 degrees"! Everyone at our table was clearly uncomfortable from the heat and they would only turn the temp setting down to 70 degrees! Regarding the food, we have noted a gradual decline in the quality over the years. The fried rice has almost no veggies in it anymore, just all rice now. I ordered filet mignon and my grandson ordered steak. The chef dumped the meat on the grill and none of us could tell any difference between the two, even though you pay more for filet mignon than plain steak. The chef grills the meat together and cuts it into pieces, dishes it onto your plates. My grandson and I carefully looked at my "filet" and his plain steak on our plates and absolutely could not tell any difference! Food taste is wildly variable as it is very "chef dependent". One chef may be really good while another is not so good, it therefore is a crap shoot, you never know if your meal will be good or regrettable. Lastly, in spite of the miserable heat in the restaurant, we waited more than half a hour before the "chef" decided to appear to begin our meal orders. The Chinese owners could learn from Japanese how best to run a Japanese hibachi restaurant. I am not sure we will go back which is a shame as years ago this place was much better.

We opted to play PC games, which as you know, PCs could be quite glitchy and I had to switch to another computer. One hot tip to know beforehand! If you are not well versed in today's PC games (which I haven't been for more than a decade), you have to register for accounts like Steam, Epic Games, and Riot Games to access their game library, but that eats away the time that you purchased to use the PCs, so I would register for those accounts at home so you don't waste time. On top of that, Steam gets especially buggy and so I got booted a few times playing Counter-Strike. Other than the gaming platform issues, this place is perfect for groups as well. We saw some families holding some sort of gathering there and the food looks pretty good too. Waypoint Lounge is a little far, but it's worth a trip checking it out. It is almost as good as Japan's so I was fairly impressed. The tonkotsu ramen was good although I didn't think the bowl had enough broth. No random American fillers so love that. The chicken karaage was fine. I don't think I would get that again. The matcha tiramisu was divineeee though. Highly recommend getting that. I do wish it was slightly cheaper and closer to south tulsa. The tables could be cleaner too. Anyway, Jinya is a good spot and the vibe was on point.
