I've reviewed Pearson before, but just to recap... Since 2023, we have: -Installed new Gas Furnace -Installed new AC -Installed new humidifier -Installed condensation pump -Signed up for the No Problem Club program thing (seasonal services so I don't have to think) -Flushed the Water Heater And now, today, we repiped the entire house. From the main to each and every fixture. On recommendation of Brian Ceroni, who was at my house working the Rockford Water Project contract (he installed my water main), I requested Doug and Craig to do this job (which was already scheduled). They arrived promptly and with an apprentice. These three busted it out. Professional, clean, FRIENDLY. I did my best to stay out of the way, but got curious (and entirely too excited) about this job. Ha! It was a looooooong day for them, truly. And I felt bad wanting to ask a ton of questions after the work was done, but... it had to be done. They were patient with me and told me to stop apologizing. That's rare these days. I know exactly how all my plumbing works now. I know where all my valves are (so many! Per my request). The best part was getting in the shower tonight and I could immediately tell my water pressure was better, and the old 1959 galvanized plumbing noises were gone. I went into the basement after, just to see if there were any wet spots--so far, so good! This actually gives me hope that I can delay two total bathroom renovations until 2028. (I am a planner.) All in all, I cannot speak more highly about Pearson. I'm beyond stoked with them, I've never had a bad experience. Jane, in the office, is amazing too! They all are! The front desk gal (sorry don't know her name) took the time to explain some things to me when I went to drop off a check, and wow. No one has ever treated me like I'm bothering them or a burden. I had Pearson Plumbing come to my house in Rockford for a sewage backup in my finished basement. They were dishonest and incompetent. They claimed to have run a 2" blade 100 feet in a blocked pipe and said it was "Good To Go." The sewage back-up continued and two subsequent plumbers said Pearson could never have run a 2" blade 100 feet. Pearson came back to correct the issue, but did not have the promised hydrojetting equipment needed for the job. This was a waste of our time and money! Pearson could not find a clean out drain and wanted to charge extra for a different "access". Our new plumber easily found the clean out drain in the bathroom. BUYER BEWARE!! We've called Pearson twice for emergency calls. Last year after a bad storm took out our sump pump and this evening because our AC/HVAC system was leaking in the basement. Both times they've come to the rescue within only a few hours! Last year was 2 hours and someone was here and today our Pearson guy moved things around and was here within 30 minutes! It's worth every bit of the extra pay for being hours after the workday and I can't thank you guys enough for your above and beyond service! Call Pearson in mid December to find a leak in my house they gave me an estimate took them to mid January for somebody to come out and find the leak. I own several rental properties and usually only call a contractor when I am out of town or unavailable. This was the case recently and I had a water heater go out in a unit. Pearson was the only company able to get a technician out same day so kudo's for that. The technician informed me the water heater was 13 years old and needed a new gas valve. Then quoted me $450 for the valve and with labor it would be $700 or he could install an all new water heater for $1100. I had my suspicions it was the valve and already searched for replacements with the part number online and seen them listed in several places between $187-$240. When I asked why so much he only said that is what he was told to charge. I asked if they would price match he said no. I declined further service and paid the $150 for the service call. I understand businesses need to make money, but a 100%+ markup on parts in simply greedy. I probably would have had them do it had the part been under $250, instead they lost my business as the whole thing just felt like one big up sell to install an all new water heater. I'll fix it myself for a few hundred dollars rather than give them $1000+. read more

Horrible experience with Pearson. Wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Our "service" plan has been a 5 yr run of trying to get us to buy a whole new system! It's always felt like the oil change facility that wants u to buy the air filters! I'm not sure why the tech's would be such sales people? "Better buy now....only going to get more expensive". Tried to sell me a complete bathroom remodel to identify and repair a small leak. Pearsons told me I needed to tear out the plumbing wall and replace the new ceramic tile and tub with a bathtub insert and all new plumbing. I called a second company. Second company plumber came the next day and repaired the leak in about 5 minutes. I called Pearsons to discuss this possible fraud with management. No one returned my call, but they kept the service charge for no service rendered. read more

I had what I thought was my sump pump failing or in the very least malfunctioning on Christmas Eve morning. I knew this was going to cost but it was an emergency. I called a couple other plumbers first but they were booked for the day so I decided I would call Pearson, knowing it would likely be more expensive. I spoke with their receptionist at 11:00am. Their technician, Josh, was at my house and completed the work by 12:30pm. Luckily it ended up not being the pump itself but a few new parts and 45 minutes later, we were ready to roll again. I have had major installation, routine and emergency service and it has all been accomplished quickly, professionally and right the first time. Today, I called at 8:15 am and technician Keith Anderson responded at 10:35. Quickly diagnosed the problem (warranty part needed) the office called at 2:30 and said they had the part, Keith called me a few minutes later and said he picked it up an was enroute. My furnace wasn't working so I had them come out. Charged $195 to be there 10 minutes and said our furnace was bad. $4500 to replace it. Had at your service heating come look at and he said there's only way your furnace is bad. It's only 10 yrs old. Ended up just needed to be cleaned and there was a loose hose leaking water. Problem fixed. Do not use Pearson. Over charge for everything and looking for the homerun sale instead of fixing a minor problem. read more

I had them out to inspect my boiler system and to check out a humming noise. I discovered after Jason left that my boiler which was working was afterwards not working at all. And, it cost me $60 dollars for nothing but a boiler now not working. I called them to come out and fix it and they never did find anyone to come back and fix what they broke. They even told me that I would have to pay the holiday cost since it was xmas eve. After several calls back and forth they offered to bring me some space heaters. They holiday charges was going to be over $200 per hour. In the meantime, I called Mapes plumbing who responded immediately and corrected the problem. He only charged me $80 and got the job done professionally and efficiently. With my wife and I being in our mid seventies and the temperature forecasted to be in the single digits we were in a pretty bad situation. But, thanks to Dave of Mapes plumbing we were safe and warm with our boiler running smoothly and quietly. I used Pearson last week for the first time for a terrible basement pipe leak. The guy did a great job in just under an hour and the price was reasonable. My only complaint is he walked through my house to check a bathroom faucet without asking, and rinsed his tools off in my kitchen sink without asking. I would have appreciated him checking with me first for those things. Other than that, I'd recommend Pearson. read more

After being warned by several neighbors not to call Pearsons as they have gained a reputation for overcharging customers I regretfully called them anyway as one morning my thermostat seemed to not be working. I was told a worker would show up between 12-5. After he arrived, he simply removed the thermostat cover and flipped my batteries around, mistakenly I had put them in backwards. THAT IS THE ONLY WORK HE DID. I thought we would have a laugh about it but he actually scolded me like i was a five year old and told me it would be $140! Are you joking! Sadly, he was not. On his way out he wanted to take a look at the new furnace I had put in by another company and proceeded to pile on and tell me I overpaid for that by four thousand dollars and should have used Pearson instead! Horrid experience and a completely rude man! I wish I could make 140 dollars for flipping around batteries! Exploitation of a senior citizen and I will tell any and EVERYONE about this! read more

I was put off getting someone to look at my water softener. They cancelled and rescheduled twice because they only have one water softener person and water spots on my dishes was not an emergency. They originally put the wrong size softener in. I got a quote from them and had the same exact thing put in by an independent plumber for half the cost The softener tech was rude and condescending. read more

Fast and friendly. A little pricey for Rockford. I called around 10am on a Monday morning, and a plumber was at my house around 1:15. He called when he was on his way, giving me a 30 minute warning before he arrived. I had a bunch of water in my basement, and the sump pump was full. He said I needed a new pump, and he replaced it in less than an hour. He quoted me at $420 for parts and labor, but I ended up paying $440 (I can't remember his reason for this). He gave me a 90 day warranty on his installation of the pump. He gave me a 3 year warranty on the pump itself. Over the phone, the secretary told me they charge $60 for a service call, plus $56 / half hour. They are going paperless, so he emailed me the invoice, which is nice so I won't lose it. They accept cash, check, or credit card. read more

They advertise a lot so you must fight the impulse to call them. The service man wasn't even a licensed plumber. He was an average schmuck with a drain snake. He spent most of his time in my back yard, and not sure why. He called his manager 45 minutes later. When the manager showed up, he spent all of his time talking and no time trying to unclog my bathtub drain. After about 40 more minutes of the manager looking at my walls, he insisted I needed to tear out some drywall and replace a major sewer pipe. That's nuts! I called John Freed and they had the drain unclogged in 15 minutes. A month later, I get a bill from Pearson for nearly $400, which I do not plan to pay. I am going to fight it with the BBB and take it to small claims court if necessary. STAY AWAY From these clowns. read more

Water heater seemed to be running a lot so I called Pearson. The guy came out within a couple of hours. It was during the week regular business hours. He checked the water heater and the unit seemed to be working ok and found there were two oak leaves that blew into the outside vent that restricted the air flow causing it to run a lot. He was at my house for 40 minutes and charged $172. I thought this to be excessive and he said his going rate is $112 an hour. There is no way I will call Pearson for anything again! If there was a rating lower than one star I would have picked that. read more

They do good work but you will pay A LOT for it and you're invoice will be anything but transparent. Recently I had a 50 gal. hot water heater installed. Invoice was for $1390. I spoke with three different people at Pearson's and no one could tell me how much I was paying for the water heater. The water heater (commercial grade just like what was installed) I found online for $599. So somewhere they were getting ~ $790 for labor and additional "parts". The plumber was able to tell me the plastic pan he installed under the tank cost me $75. The exact same one is at Lowes for $12.99. The tank was leaking and we didn't have much choice once they were out there. Next time we have a heating plumbing issue we will avoid Pearson's. Bottom line, okay service with outrageous price and zero details included on the invoice. read more

John is a fantastic new plumber, he had to unclog two toilets and one of them required him to clear the line about 20 feet! He was courteous, professional, and cleaned up when he was done. Had my home air conditioner go out and asked them take have look at it. They replaced the starter capacitor in the outside condenser unit and got it going. The guy told me at first that he didn't have the part with him but later "found" one in his truck after about 15 minutes of looking. I later discovered, after probing a bit, the cap was a pull from parts unit. Of course they charged for more that the price of a new part and for more time than was actually spent on the service call. 2 months later the air conditioner had the same problem. This time they told my my unit was old and needed to be replaced ...and that's why the part failed and service guy was very rude and nasty about it. (same service guy from the first trouble call). Yes the unit was older, but when they replaced the capacitor with an actual good part, I never had a problem with it after that. They overcharged me again and admitted no fault for installing a bad part and would not make an adjustment to the bill. That was the last time I will ever do business with these people. The service guy was really rude and condescending. The people that answer the phone aren't much better. They act like they're doing you a favor to do their job... no joke. I have used these guys in the past for a new central air system and they were great. Called for plumbing help. Got an appt for 915 am. At 930 I called because I had not seen a plumber yet. I was informed it was set for between 9 and noon. At 1159 I called again since no one still had shown up or called. Whoever answered could have cared less that I had not been seen. She had no clue when I would be seen and did not know where the plumber was even at. I was quite frustrated as I had standing water in my basement. The person on the phone had no clue I had standing water. I called another company who was out and had the job done by 2 pm. I finally received a call from.the pearson plumber at 1 pm saying he was coming! Really? I had cancelled . Pearson has just lost my business and most likely the longtime business of my parents due to simple poor customer service. The company I called just gained customers. They were sympathetic, friendly and professional. In this day and age small companies cannot afford poor customer service. I called to set up an appointment to have someone fix my sink, tub faucet, and water softener. They were available to come out the next day. I was given a time window of between 12-5pm (they can't give a smaller window than 5 hours?). Craig called about 15 minutes before showing up at approximately 2:30. We went through each item one by one. I watched him work and he explained things as he fixed each problem. The last thing on the list was our water softener. We went downstairs and he spends a minute playing around with the settings and turns on the bypass. He told me water softeners don't fall under plumbing and that they would have to send out different guy on another day free of charge. Okay, the office knew I wanted the softener looked at when I made the appointment, so why send only a plumber? Overall Craig was very friendly, professional, and informative. He completed the work in around an hour. 2 days later: Jason was scheduled to come over between 8-12. He comes over around 11:30 and looks at the water softener. He tells us it's not working because the settings are wrong and the bypass is on. We tell him they were just changed the other day by Craig. He said the settings are correct now and if it doesn't work then we need a new one. Really? You can't even tell us if it works? He literally spent 5 minutes playing around with it and did not get out a single tool. He comes back in with an invoice for $56 for his "labor". All he did was change the settings and turn off the bypass that the plumber changed 2 days earlier! Most importantly, we were told were told this visit would be FREE. I call the office and spend 20 minutes on the phone going in circles with their customer service manager. Her argument was that they only offered to waive the service visit fee, not the labor. This was never conveyed to me, otherwise I would not have agreed to a 2nd visit. What's her solution? Apply the $56 towards a new water softener from them... which start at $900. While I was on the phone with her I also asked for itemized invoices for the two visits. She refused to provide me with them. According to her, their system isn't capable of creating itemized invoices. An honest company will provide you with an itemized invoice, especially if you request one. What a scam. I feel conned. This company has mostly positive reviews which is why I chose them. But this was a terrible experience for us. I will definitely be using someone else when we remodel our bathroom in a couple months. Things to keep in mind if you are looking for a plumber: Pearsons charges $60 for the visit alone, plus $56 per half hour for labor, plus a premium on parts. They cannot give a time window smaller than 4 hours, if you work normal business hours expect to take a half day off like I had to. They may or may not send the right technician for the job. If they don't, it's on your dime when the right one comes regardless of what they say. If you have an issue with the service you receive don't expect to get much help with it. And to top it all off, you can't get an itemized invoice for the work they do, you just have to take their word on it and hope they're honest. I hope you have a better experience with them than I did. read more

The man was here for 4 hours and screwed in a shower knob, fixed a running toilet, took a look at another toilet and charged me $450. 9 months later the running toilet sill runs and the other toilet still leaks which is now causing ceiling damage in my basement. I called Pearson with a dripping shower faucett and a clogged shower drain. The Pearson tech was very experienced, and the job required drilling out the center of the faucett valve to replace a part. The job took 2 hours. The drain had some hair and took 30 seconds. The bill was $432, or $216 an hour. This is not the kind of rate one expects to pay for a good plumber. My car mechanic charges $75 and hour. When my old airplane needs work, I pay $79 per hour. The business model for plumbing companies, HVAC companies and other trades is to employ hard working techs who get paid $20-35 per hour while the owner, who has legitimate overhead expenses, gets over $150 an hour. Legitimate overhead and profit would in the range of 30 percent. So this was a job that should have cost $100-150. But this kind of predatory pricing for the classic American trade work robs the experienced techs of their true value, further enriches the wealthy owners and raises the cost of living for working class and middle class home owners. Shame on them. Next time I will look for a shade tree plumber and pay him well. read more

Terrible customer service. Pearson came out and dug up our yard to replace a sewer line , sometime in November. They drove their trucks on our neighbors lawn, never said a word to us or the neighbor(tore up lawn terribly). Called to speak to Don Howe, he was a condescending jerk, along with the manager,will never use again! Rhonda was great replying, and very apologetic with my concerns. read more
