Many thanks to Debbie from Peckish Pig for responding to my previous review. I very much appreciate the transparency and integrity, so am changing my review to 5 stars. In my previous review, I noted that the server did not know where any of the meat came from, but thought it was from the US. This did not seem to reflect the Peckish Pig's stated commitment to "local, grass-fed, hormone-free meat". Too often, restaurants will hop on the local bandwagon with generic statements, like this, without really backing it up with their sourcing. I am thrilled to learn that Peckish Pig does in fact back up this claim and that the server was simply ill-informed. Can't wait to come back for another delicious meal! read more

My coworker and I used to come here every week and get goat cheese and honey and then the fries/brussel sprouts. So so good.

Had a great brunch at Peckish Pig this past Sat. We arrived at 1pm and had no problem being seated tho the place was pretty crowded. I think we came at the right time as many folks were finishing up and leaving. Our server, I think her name was Shannon (she had awesome, curly hair) was great - a fun personality and good attentiveness. The food was really good. I had normal breakfast fare of fried eggs and bacon. My friends had more adventurous meals - Lamb burger and a curried rice and eggs dish and fish dish - all really flavorful and interesting. Ok, we've been to Peckish Pig for a drink or for dinner about seven or eight times now. We really want this business to succeed, because it'll be great for the neighborhood. We're hoping they work out the kinks and turn an OK restaurant into a great one. We have yet to have a good customer experience at Peckish. We started going to another bar around the same time, and the staff at that bar has taken the time to engage with us and even knows us by name. We've seen the staff at PP multiple times, and they have yet to be friendly with us. We've tried to have a nice conversation with the bartender and other staff, only to have it ended abruptly. The bar staff is frequently preoccupied with the register or other staff members -- even when it's not busy -- and their backs are frequently turned to the customer side of the bar. We often want to order additional drinks, but have to flag down a bartender even while we're seated at the bar. There is often a long delay between rounds. Usually when this happens we just ask for the tab and leave, instead of staying longer. Because this is a neighborhood establishment, we want to feel comfortable and friendly there and the service is important to us. We like the atmosphere, and the food, but think that a focus on customer service could really go a long way for the folks at Peckish Pig. It would certainly get us to come back more often and stay longer. read more

Great drink options, even better food options, especially if you're into less conventional cuisine. If you have a poor palette, should probably just stick to drinks. Their menu seems to rotate a lot, which is nice and refreshing. I've always liked everything I've ever ordered. The best part of this place is their patio without a doubt. read more

I'd visit again but only for the atmosphere and bar. Sadly I wouldn't get food from here again. Also, my server was fantastic! She was very polite and attentive. Two stars are for the food quality and strange presentation for the fish and chips I ordered. I shouldn't have to ask for a plate to eat my dinner. Looking at some other reviews on here the complaints are pretty similar. The place is freezing and when we were seated another group was placed adjacent to us and the hostess took the heater from us and put it on them! Bring a jacket. read more

I visited here with a couple of friends, so we were able to get an assortment of entrees as well as a few drinks. I had heard a number of good things and the reviews gave me hope but unfortunately PP failed to deliver. In short, the dishes were often very one note and the meat over cooked. The beer and cocktails weren't anything special, especially sad for the beer since they're supposed to be home brewed. The nail in the coffin was that service was lacking; the waitress was super nice just a little too absent for our entire stay. In detail: I got the pork belly entree, which seemed like a no brainer, I mean who doesn't love pork belly?! Anyways, it was overcooked to the point where almost none of the fat was left and the dish over all was very one note... as were most the dishes... we had. My girlfriend ordered the duck confit over mac'n'cheese, the duck was okay but it appeared they only drizzled the cheese over the pasta and the pasta was a little overcooked. One of our friends ordered the ham hock balls, which came with a caramel sauce. These were okay but it was literally just 3 balls on a plate... no garnish (fine) but some micro greens would have made a helluva difference both visually and palette wise. Our other friend had the "cow panini" which ended up being a bit chewy due to choice of cut and, for once, lack of cooking. I don't have much to say about the cocktail, good or bad, and then the 3 beers, according to our friend, who is a bit of a beer aficionado, didn't much care for them. I almost feel bad writing this review but then I see all these 4-5 star reviews and feel like there needs to be some honesty injected into these sugar coated posts. PP has potential but they are a far ways off of 4 stars and a bit shy of 3. It's just not that good. read more

This was our first time at peckish pig, they're open later so that was a huge plus. We had the lamb and goat cheese burger, the meat plate, avocado hummus, a beer flight, and the old fashioned. The lamb burger was so juicy and delicious very much the high light of the meal but really everything was wonderful. Not one thing was bad. Great service, sad we forgot our leftovers in the car guess we'll be back sooner than later!! read more

Customer service is lacking. Sat at the bar. Two of the three bartenders were surly. All three avoided eye contact. I sat and waited nearly ten minutes before being approached meanwhile the younger owner stood and talked to other customers about getting a green card, living in aville, being soooo busy, the place is booked for parties, blah, blah, blah. The sweet English tart was great. The beet salad was great. The fish and chips were horrible. Greasy cocoons with tasteless mushy fish inside. Chips were the highlight of the two. The draught beer list is unreadable written in dark blue on a black background chalkboard. Come on. This was my second visit. The first was better. I'll update if there is a third. read more

This place was great! Really enjoyed the beers. Had the Curly Tail Golden Ale, perfect summer beer. For appetizers we settled on the bacon wrapped dates which were delish. I liked the spicy kick that the chorizo gave in them. The bacon was a touch overdone. We also had the spinach salad, which was amazing. A little too much dressing but I still devoured the whole thing. For our meal we went with what our server recommended. I always love a server who can tell you the best thing on the menu. I would rather have them tell me than play the guessing game. We went with his recommendations, Slow Roasted Pork Belly with Mash and the Fried Amish Chicken Panini with Brie and Apples. Both were excellent. Only suggestion is change the menu so its not so confusing. I know they are trying to be artsy with categorizing by meats, veggie, etc. but just list things normally like appetizers, salad, entrees. It makes it hard to find stuff and know what's appetizer portion and what's dinner size portion. Love the overall atmosphere and decor. It's a large space and has nice comfy louge/bar area in front. Went there for dinner on a Friday night. Hostess told us there was a 15-20 minute wait and we could sit at the bar, she would come and find us. Over an hour later we were still waiting - when we approached the hostess, she told us she had taken our name off the list - no reason given. We were told that we would have the next table. 45 minutes later after we had gone ahead and ordered at the bar she told us our table was ready. We stayed at the bar and ate. I had the rosemary chicken and my friend had the pork ribs. Hers was cold and mine was just bland. The fries were the best thing we had that night. read more

After three visits, I rate this place 3.5 stars. On my first visit I sat at the bar (which I recommend over sitting in the dining room, the servers are really hard to find and don't check back hardly ever). I ordered the potato pancakes which were delicious. I didn't realize that they came with salmon until my second visit when my companion ordered them. I asked the server if they always came with salmon and they said yes. So I guess my salmon was forgotten on the first go round - but the dish was still good. Second time I ordered The Amazing Kale Burger. I have had this burger at RPH before, so I have a pretty good idea of what it's supposed to be like. That said, my kale burger was burnt to crisp. A hard, black, crisp. I didn't send it back, because I know better then to send food back to a kitchen. The fries were great. I like that they support local by trying to stock their menu with something like The Amazing Kale Burger - but dang. It got totally ruined. During this trip our 4-top would have drank a lot more, but our server was eating lunch at the bar. So we had our one round of beers, followed by empty glasses for the duration of our meal. I really like that they brew their own beers and that's what has brought me back. I've had their Gobsmacked and India Panic Attack (my favorite). I'll definitely be back for a few brews and maybe a snack. As I mentioned, sit at the bar. The bartenders are nice, and you won't have to chase a server down when you need something! read more

Awesome place. This is one of my go to places in town. The food is consistently excellent, especially the small plates and apps. They get a lot of their food locally, including their breads and meats. Try the bacon wrapped dates and the sausage sampler. The Trio (salmon poke, avocado hummus and olive assortment) is wonderful. The burgers and fries are top notch, too. In addition to all that, they have a sweet outdoor courtyard beach style patio and the best micro brew, in my humble opinion, in Evanston (I know people usually associate a different beer company with this town). Try the Panic Attack IPA and you'll be a believer. Great cocktails and great indoor and outdoor spaces. This is the type of place you could chill for a few hours at on the weekends or around happy hour. read more

I really wanted to love this place. I was excited to try the kale burger, and when i finally did, it was pretty underwhelming. I have had MUCH better in the world of veggie burgers. I do appreciate that it was homeade, however, and that they DO have a vegan option. My friend got a salad and it looked fantastic; I would like to try that ife i ever came back. I would I eat that burger again if i had to come back, but not sure I would choose to come back to eat it, if that makes sense. Definitely check out this place! Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, so we barely had to wait. Between my husband and I, we shared three plates: the garlic chicken wings, mac & cheese, and braised short ribs. Topped everything off with the sticky pudding with custard for dessert. Wings were good, Mac & cheese needed salt, short ribs were outstanding!!! The dessert was decadent, warm, and rich. Husband said the beers were good; his favorite was the IPA. We saw several large groups there, so they accommodate parties of all sizes. Large menu with vegetarian options will appeal to everyone in the group! We will definitely be back! read more

So, i take issue with a place that 1. Implies they are a place where you can PECK at food if you want 2. Tells you as you sit down that they have small plates to share... like tapas. 3. Asks you how you want your food to come out ...and you tell them slowly as you have time to spend. You know where this is going...all the food came out at the same time. The food was good but by the time we got to the last dish, it was cold. Im not a complainer but did mention something to the waiter. He shrugged it off. Finally made it to Peckish Pig after hearing rave reviews all around. Very busy place, but we were able to score a lounge table in the bar - odd for eating, but we made it work. Love the food & drinks, HATE when they have a band. It's toooooo loud for that room (and I'm IN a loud rock band). We go there to have dinner and actually talk to the folks we're dining with. It is so great to see a new restaurant in the neighborhood. The Peckish Pig has only been open a few days and boy is the word out about how great this restaurant is. The interior is exposed brick and beams with industrial re-purposed furniture. I understand that in the summer they will also have outdoor seating. Can't wait! We arrived at 6:30 and it was already getting crowded. Many of the items on the menu are meant to be shared. They have a very good selection of wines and craft beers. My husband and I selected the cheese and meat board, the whipped goat cheese with a local honey, roast vegetables, duck confit mac and cheese, and the pulled chicken sandwich. The selections of meats and cheeses were fabulous. They were served with french bread toasts and water crackers. We also really enjoyed the whipped goat cheese and honey. A fresh combination. The duck confit mac & cheese was rich, creamy, flavorful. Scrumptious. The roasted veges were delicious. I would say the only thing we weren't a huge fan of was the pulled chicken. It was sort of dry and neither of us were a fan of the BBQ sauce. There was no tang, no zing, no sweetness, no really anything to it. Our server couldn't have been nicer. She was knowledgeable about the menu and beer selections. She was just a little slow. It took a good 10 or so minutes to get our drinks and we waited quite some time for our check. However, its like day 4 that Peckish Pig has been open. If they're this great in the first week, I can't wait to see what they're like after a few months. I was very disappointed with the service. I rarely write a review, but last nights service was ridiculous. We were seated, took the waitress about 10-15 minutes to take drink order. When I hesitated for a second as to what I type of beer, she was short with me and said I'll come back when you are ready. It took another 10-15 min to actually get the drinks and order. When food came out they had no idea who had what (party of 8) and kept asking. Everyone was served their food, but one person, who had flatbread! Not hard to make! It took them 15minutes to bring out her food!!! In a classy restaurant a waitress would come over and apologize right away, nope she came over at the end of the meal!! The Peckish Pig is an amazing restaurant with a charming vibe. We held our wedding reception on their patio, and the event was perfect. The food was delicious, the set up was exactly as desired. The staff was not only courteous, but efficient, kind, and very knowledgeable. We had a wonderful evening! We go to the Peckish Pig on a regular basis, and the food is always beautiful and tasty. Second time here with my wife. The first was at a birthday party in the side room so we only had a few selected items. This time we came in to sample the whole menu and we were not disappointed. The space is nicely done and if they get the OK to move forward with outdoor seating between the restaurant and the brewery building it will be a wonderful addition. Our server was very friendly and attentive even though she was working many tables on a busy Wednesday night. We started with the cheese and meat plate which was outstanding - the cheeses, meats and pate complimented each other perfectly. My wife had the kale and quinoa salad which she liked very much. I had the mussels in a beer and bacon broth and they were big, fresh and so tasty. Much better in my opinion than the mussels at the Hopleaf. We also split an order of frites with the truffle mayo and they were great. The only reason for not giving a five star rating was the beer selection on tap. Besides the obligatory Guinness all the others on the tap line were local craft beers - with 4 or 5 brewed on location. I know this is the continuing trend to serve locally brewed ales, stouts and IPAs in standard pint glasses from the dozens of microbrewers that have popped up like weeds in the area - but a little more variety would be refreshing. How about a quality German pilsner or weissbier in the rotation, especially in the summer, to give the customers some more complex choices. That said, we enjoyed our dinner very much and we shall return very soon. read more

On the edge of Evanston, Peckish Pig has created a warm and inviting space. The centrally located bar is a great spot to hangout/mingle or grab a table for a more intimate dinner. A variety of unique seasonal fare, their menu is super easy to navigate for those who have dietary preferences/restrictions. I've been there twice so far, and both times I was delighted with the vegetarian friendly offerings and tasty cocktail creations. The staff has always been friendly and knowledgeable. Street parking is pretty easy. read more

I stopped in here for dinner and tried their pate board and lamb burger. The lamb burger was fiendishly good with an awesome amount of cheese and pretzel bun to die for. The pate board was a little weird, but good. My only knock on the place would be that their beer selection was a little light on stouts when it came to the tap list, but otherwise there was plenty to choose from. I thought we were going to a barbeque restaurant for brunch but was pleasantly surprised when I saw the menu was loaded with unique choices. Unlike other "neuvo shmovo" places where the dish sounds good until the last ingredient is something like dogs toenails- this was all understandable ingredients which sounded good. Ordered the steak and eggs and shared the large steak with my husband. The garlic potatoes were great and the donuts in the bag were amazing. Our waittress Kaitlin was great and helpful. Looked at the dinner menu and it sounded good also. We will return. The outside patio was inviting and pleasant. read more

I was here yesterday with a friend and as always the food was GREAT! but this time around, our server was Bob and the service was fantastic. He is a sweet guy, knew enough about the menu and drinks to answer any questions we had, we traded stories with him about Michigan (our hometown). Used to be our favorite place but food hasn't been great in the last few months. We went there a few times for various occasions with friends or as a couple and the food had ZERO flavor. Nothing had any salt on it! I tried a few other people's food and they agreed. Mac n cheese was super bland, hubby said short ribs (I think it was that, served with grits) had no salt. I had the blackened salmon burger on one occasion and it was cooked perfectly but no seasoning. Blackened implies the blackened seasoning, which should have loads of flavor! But nope, not only was there no blackened seasoning, there was no seasoning at all. I had to add salt and slather it in aioli before it was edible. Then a couple weeks later I was there for a friend's get together and I had the fish on a plank. Fish and veggies cooked well, but it was smothered in garlic mashed potatoes (normally my fave!) which were not good. Again, zero salt, and the garlic was raw. It was very pungent but not in the good way that garlic mashed potatoes should be. The garlic should be strong but have a soft flavor. No one wants to eat raw garlic. Overall I'm disappointed with the decline of our once favorite spot. Hope they fix the food soon. read more
